Segmented wood turners glue these hard to clamp designs with rubber bands. The rubber bands apply even pressure and the pieces can be move until they are in the exact place for setting. In order to use rubber bands however you will need to drive a few nails around the piece, stretch the rubber bands around the nails then once the piece is together release the rubber bands. Experiment with the height and number of nails needed to make a smooth transition from the nails to the piece.

I've seen other Pro Wood Workers use rubber bands to hold things like that together. Maybe that would work here!

I’d actually thought about it, but wouldn’t you know, we don’t have a decent rubber band in the house! Just some very old ones that don’t stretch without breaking! Good suggestion though.

Thanks for the thanks! I get mine at Walmart of all places! But you can get these elsewhere!!! I buy the preverbal ball of rubber bands! It's like a ball of yarn but it's rubber bands! Cheap and lots of rubber bands if you happen to stretch one too far!!!

You van use rubberbands to get the blok together or tape around.

I wonder if you could have used rubber bands as a clamp. Also, I wonder if you could build one long "log" and then slice it like a cookie dough roll. It may make the gluing and all easier. I saw where Steve Ramsey did something where he made Christmas Stars by building the one long log and then slicing like cookie dough into the smaller shapes.

That probably would be a lot easier! But getting edge grain up rather than face grain would take some very wide boards to start with. Thanks for the suggestion though!
Rubber bands are never quite enough pressure, IMO.

Beautiful work may i ask what tooth band saw blade is that. It looks very coarse. I have been using a 14 tooth and it may be a little too fine.

I believe that’s a Woodslicer 3/4 alternating TPI blade, 1/2”. Rule of thumb is at least 3 teeth in the work at all times. I get a pretty decent cut with the Woodslicer.
14 TPI should be fine for a clean cut, but you have to go slower and make sure the tension is set correctly. A sharp blade is also essential for a clean cut.
I still clean up the edges before glueing together.

this is not a carpenter position so you stand corrected this is a mill wrights assistants position the mill wright would do the layout and oversite of the project
