Thank you for making this video. I'm a master Subaru technician, just picked up my buddies 05 CBR600 with a crank no start. I don't like throwing parts at anything I work on, so I figured I'd do some research ahead of time. This video just saved me a lot of unnecessary disassembly and diag right away. I know about the common fuel tank/sending unit corrosion issues, but this is the gold nugget of info that I've been searching for. I'm gonna make sure to do a proper write-up with pics and instructions on a couple of forums so that the next guy can avoid turning his harnesses into spaghetti or ending up with a bill from the dealership that's more than the value of their bike. Thanks again brother. Ya don't know till ya know!
HOLY COW. I lost my keys to my cbr like a year ago and switched the ignition out. Ever since then I've had the fuel pump prime issue and I've torn my bike apart and read countless amounts of forums trying to find the solution, only to land here randomly at this video at 3 am that solves it. I cannot thank you enough for posting it.
I literally just changed the ignition on my Honda vfr800 and removed the custom led lights that had been put on. And I done had the same exact problem. Going through wires trying to figure it out!
My race bike with ignition key delete just started having this issue intermittently and then the main fuse blew just as I was going out for a race!! Turned out that the connection to the diode in the pink wire was bad - not sure if I would have found it without seeing this! Great work, much appreciated!!
YOU ARE THE MAN!!! I have Honda VFR 800 2002.. Thanks a lot!!! I bought the bike, and the seller said it’s just starter relay and I’m change ignition switch and fuel pump . Battery was dead 😬 so I can’t try it.. and guess what? FI is on and I can’t start the bike😬 so I change battery, starter relay, stator, IPG, Regulator and still nothing no spark no fuel pump priming.. so I change CPU, BAS still nothing. Then all wiring harness, spark plugs, ignition coils and nothing ... I've read all the forums and nothing. But today I saw your video and? She is alive!!!!! Thank you 🙏
Man 6 years later thanks so much. just picked up an 03 and can’t get it to start gonna have to check this out tomorrow!! i’ll come back and let you know man
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Working on my 2002-2003 945rr, bad fuel pump... took the pump apart and got that working, and after checking all the sensors as per the service manual, and even trying the 9v battery you did, still nothing... decided to trace the pink wire and found it broke/mouse chewed through only the pink wire on the whole bike.....lol soldered up the pink wire, hooked up the 12v bat. and she came to life!!! It's been over a year since the same priming sound you were so excited to hear, I finally heard. Without your video, who knows how long it would of taken me to stumble across the broken pink wire.. Take care man
Ah dude, Thank You, Thank You, Thank you! I bought a theft recovery bike and the ignition switch had been stripped out of it. No big deal I thought and just ran a simple on/off switch to it. Needless, to say she never even spit or coughed. I have traced every wire, thrown parts at it, and was at my wits end until I saw your video. My bike looks about like the one in your video.Sure enough, I hooked a 9 volt battery up to the pink wire and she cranked right up and ran like a champ. I have to admit, I wondered what the pink wire was for, but just ignored it like a big dummy. Dang, I am totally pissed off for being so stupid, but elated she is running, I sure learned a lot at least. Again, Thank You!! May lot's of good karma come your way.
Andrew, Thank you so much for the vid it really helps, My bike just stop working the other day, no prime. I am really hoping that is a fuse, but , now i know it could be this. Sorry to see you went through all this , the good thing you found the solution and even better you shared the problem. If i may from all of us thank you so much for the video. Ride safe and God bless
I’m on an 06 1000RR and it’s been doing the same thing intermittently. It would even die while I was riding it but only to fire right back up while rolling. Essentially a 50mph push start 😂 It would have zero electrical issues just the fuel pump would reprime and I’d be on my way. Then it was happening at random stops but would start immediately. Then yesterday I rode to Walmart, came out and zero prime. Everything else looks like it’s working but it refuses to prime. I’m betting you just saved me a lot of time and money. I WILL come back to update if this resolves my issue. I’ve already found the pink wire. I just need to put some other stuff back together before I can test it. Thank you for putting in all that work!
Music to your ears when you hear that prime after a few days of testing wiring. I have a similar issue with my cbr, but alas this is not the problem. I will keep testing and reading. Thanks for this video it helps.
I have the same issue with my 2003 honda cbr 600 f4i. My buddy and I have tried and checked everything but the ignition. Your video has help my buddy and I out alot thanx.
Holy Moses! I have a 2010 CBR1000RR and just ran into this no fuel prime issue the other day. Don't know if this will fix my issue but it sure will be a good starting point to investigate. Thanks Andrew for this UA-cam vid and I totally agree, everyone needs to share their stories and more importantly the fixes they find in the end! Cheers brother!
how you doing @Ryan Darville, i have a 2007 and im having the same issue with my bike, was just wondering if you find the solution to your issue and if so what was the fix solution
Carlos, check the video posted by rr808stunt there'd a video posted that says no start on cbr. If you haven't figured out the issue yet. Hope this helps.
hi i have a 2001 blackbird and i to had a total shut down it would turn over with out a problem and after checking every part of the wiring and after watching this video i found on the under side of my Ignition Switch there is a zener diode that has dropped off the connections on the bottom of the ignition witch has stopped the pump from priming but thak you so much coz iv been pulling out my hair on this problem and it has saved me so much money thank you so much for posting this video from mark
I'm another 2001 Blackbird owner here for the same issue. Pump won't prime on switch, hotwired it and it works. Mine is a USA model (redbird in 2001)- is yours a U.K. bike?
I had that problem on a 2004 Yamaha fz1 that someone ended up showing me. Came up on a 05 ninja 636r that almost got for nothing with same problem. I'm finishing up some maintenance on the bike, but that diode was completely broke off on the one side. Good video & helpful for anyone with this problem
Great video, I've just had this no priming issue, I thought it was old fuel as I havent used the bike in months, so im mid strip down, fuel out and clean everything. If that doesnt work I'll check that diode. Strangely when I tested the fuel pump connector with ignition on I only got 3.5volts. Thanks for showing the solution. So many people dont, probably coz they never found the problem and gave up. Cheers
So glad I found your video. Just at the beginning of my troubleshooting, and you may have just saved me. At least I know where to start now! Thank you for posting this video. It really grinds my gears that people dont post solutions once they've found them.
Thank you for a definitive fix! I have a 03’ CBR954RR that died 3 times going down the road, the third time it didn’t start again. Exact symptoms, I now have something else to check other than the other items you mentioned. Thanks!
Unfortunately in my case, all that stuff was good. My new Rectifier blew my battery and pin 25 on one of the connectors which activated the fuel pump. I had to buy a new computer and it worked. Great find on your part though. Great video.
Hi , I just wanted to say thanks for the video. It helped me figure out the issue on my bike my bike was stolen and I couldn't figure out what the issue was when I bought an aftermarket ignition switch that did not come out with the diode
Were you able to buy a diode and install it? I have a CBR 2007 that was stolen and the thieves messed it up. Now it doesn't start. I guess the same problem.
Good deducement to solve the Problem. You explain Things Really well. Lots of Gossip in Internet but few solve the Problems. Your an Exception. Greetings from England. 👍🇬🇧
Thanks for the share, I also had the same problem with threads on forums... my bike doesn't have this problem...but awesome that you share this...I have also been looking for a fix for mine too, mine starts most of the time, but then it just goes off when accelerating, also sometimes..not always...driving me mad and quite dangerous especially at the track
I tried this but it didn't work. I also replaced the zener diode that goes into the ignition switch. I'm waiting on my new ecu so hopefully I'll be riding. Glad you fixed your problem 🤙🏾
What if theres no pink wire? Until now my cbr it was starting until one day something went off with speedometer it went completely black out i check starting relay it was bad i changed it then i had power to the speedometer but no response and the fuel pump doesn’t prime also i check for pink wire from the ignition switch and its nothing there
the 9.1 V Zener Diode was the wrong way around or you were not using a 9.1v Zener Diode. google "9.1v Zener Diode" in your area to pick one up cheap, the diode will need to be put in backwards, the normal way will produce 12v and in reverse, it will limit the voltage to 9.1v. (they are a special type of diode) Zener Diodes are better than Resisters because they will maintain the 9.1v regardless of the voltage on the battery 10-15v. eg. when charging.
Hi, this wasnt my problem but I did solve it. I checked everything, fuses, relays, bas, pump direct to 12v, kill switch, ecm. So thought I'd check this diode, this is an 03 european model, there is a space for a diode but non is fitted and no pink wire with the 2 red ones from ignition. However I did find the problem in the end. I started from scratch again. Even though I knew it wasnt the starter solenoid coz it was cranking over, it looked grubby so I took it out to clean it, (keep the leads apart) when i did I could now see the 20a fuse holder( leads to fuel cut of relay) which is buried in a hole next to it looked very green and the wire from the battery was broke but in place, you cannot see this with solenoid in situ. There is a factory hole in the undertray which the tyre throws water and muck through. I cut them and connected together and boom, pump primed and bike started. Fitted a new fuse holder from ebay for £2. check this, could save some time.
Thanks for the video, my 2012 CBR1000RR was running great until I washed it, now the fuel pump isn't priming, I'm going to look into this as one of the causes!
Bro same happened to me and I couldn't find anything on it. But the plug from the main harness to the harness to the front of the bike got water stuck in there and melted the plug from the inside (you can't see the problem) unplug it and see that.
So I can’t see in the vid Weber’s the 9v wire is I can’t tell how to feed it in, and I don’t want to hook things up wrong. Can you explain it a wee bit. I replaced it. But I still can’t get it started , can you put the diod in backwards cheacked all the wires that I think would be the issue . But still nothing. Replaced the pump( not the assembly) and that was an issue but not the original issue . How do I test the voltage ? Do I need to cut the pink wire and put the lil machine in it or can I just hook an alligator clip on one ( the pink side) of the diod soterd points?
With the 9v when I hook it into the pink wire would I put the positive post to the pink wire and the and the meg post on to what ? The other side of the pink wire or hook it to a meg or pos of the bike bike battery?
Great fix...thx. I have problem when my steering wheel is totally left, motorcycle can be turned on. When is not in that position...fuel pump does not work. So I guess there is a break in wire somewhere since I checked kill switch, fuses and relay...good luck to me 😂
Thanks for the video. Unfortunately, My bike was vandalized after it was stolen. They tried to short wire it, but didn't succeed. I didn't try that fix yet, I am having the same symptoms though. I was wondering if the generic ignition set on Ebay has that diode? or I will have to look for the genuine HONDA one?
Thanks man, nice video. Just bought an 09 yesterday from an insurance auction that won't prime. Checked out all the easy obvious stuff, now hoping it's the bank angle sensor (which is missing), but if it ain't I'll be checking this out.
heck yea man very good video. explained it very well . of all videos iv watched to figure out the problem of my honda cbr 600 rr. this one was the too one to help. thank you
Thank you for your video I have a 97 Suzuki GSXR 600 Srad with no spark and I have replaced all electrical components and the complete wiring harness and some how I think it could be with the key ignition
i use a 1000 ohm resistor to fix it. i cut the pink wire , tied one end of the resistor to it. the other side to one of the wires that get power when the key is on. it works fine.
I have the exact same bike as you and I am having the same problem with my fuel primer. It is super weird because the fuel primer DOES connect but after turning it off and on it DOES NOT connect any more and i have to wait 10 minutes of turning the bike on and off for it to finally connect again which enables me to start the bike. Did your bike have the same issue or did it not connect at all?
I got a nine volt battery hang I don’t know how to do the diode thing or which one to get, this 9v battery last about a month or so... u have a like to the diode thing? Thanks a lot for the the video!!!
Hi Andrew, I wanted to ask you if your control unit is of the American type and if this operation can also be carried out on a European one. the pink thread that number of pins has? Thanks so much
Very good presentation. Expound on that 9V battery for the elimination of all your work. Dude, make the test tool. Interface the pink wire, prove it out. Oh, and the Zener, pronounced zee-ner diode, is something Harley Davidson needed waaaaay back in the day of generator systems so that headlight/taillight systems didn't poop. Tie in up front and bury in headlight bucket... No feedback from generator to blow headlight. Taillight...., well..., I could always do without... No sense looking behind.., and no sense anyone seein' where I've been....
This is exactly what issue i ran into. I put in a new stator, put the bike back together. Started right up every time I tried the same night I put the stator on, heard the prime every time. As well. The next morning, wanted to hear the glorious fix I did on the bike & start it up. I noticed the prime noise didn’t come on anymore, & the bike didn’t want to turn over. Now the buzzing noise the prime is supposed to make, isn’t going on. Huge head ache. Might try this, hopefully it helps.
Hello Andrew. I'm having the same issue. I took the ignition switch apart and mine for some reason don't have the zener diode in the back. I cleaned up all the hard and old grease inside the switch and the bike started for about 20 times. I was going for a test ride and while the bike was warming up, the head lights went out. I turned the blinker on and the bike died. to get the fuel pump to pressurize I have to disconnect the left side headlight .
@@twirltheworld2262 No. I still have the problem. The fuel pump will only prime if I disconnect the left side head light. When I do that, all four blinker will stay half way on.
Just bought a project f4i with no spark and when the guy started to turn it over i heard to fuel prime. Glad I found this video. Im sure this will fix it. Are there any aftermarket ignition switches with the pink wire?
Hey Andrew. I have tried the 9v trick but not dice. Pump is priming when straight juice from batt direct. So it’s not pump. Any other suggestions.? Thanks
So I have a 2004 cbr and I have a new ignition switch I haven’t tested the Ecu yet I tested the engine start relay the fan relay and the the fuel relay and 2 of them were bad could this be my problem as well the bike won’t prime the pump and I tested the pump and it is fone
If buy new key set is that help?i buy whole new wiring for my bike, symptom, My bike sudenly lost power when ride and die,it hard to start, when i try to start it again it won't start and my fuelpump suddenly wont prime. Is that the same for your case sir? Is that to do with the zener diode on the key?
I have an 02 cbr 929 I’ve checked EVERYTHING. Replaced ecu and all relays are good and fuel pump will even prime but the injectors will not shoot. My diode reading is only 8.4. Would that be the problem??
Awesome video. Thank you. You Are absolutely right people would say things and try to help but they don’t exactly tell you how they solve the problem. That could be kind of a waste. Thank you again much appreciate it I was having the same problem now I’m going to try to do the same. Hopefully it works thanks.
I’ve got the same issue with my CBR1100xx after not running it for 12 months. All the relays are okay, it might just be the pink wire and diode as you say.
Mine is doing the same thing but instead of the electric start button turning the bike over it doesn't do anything is this still the same problem? My key broke off in the ignition and I after replacing it with aftermarket. I found this video but I can't get the start button to fire please help
So.. if I were to theoretically jump the main power switch with a wire and in the middle of the wire solder a diode limiting 9v to pass to then jump the 3rd wire.. theoretically.. 👀 it should start? Theoretically that is.
i have a cbr 929 2001 and found it does not have a zener diode at back of ignition. I am nut much of an electrician at all but wondering how exactly to connect the 9v battery to ecu pink wire? So the grey terminal of the ecu has an all pink wire feeding into it; and I need to connect the positive terminal of the 9v to it? - what about the negative terminal. Help would be very much appreciated as have spent tonnes of bucks on bike ...
dam maybe might fix my issue 2005 honda cbr600 f4i. drove 3 hours away to Wisconsin dells then try to ride to Milwaukee bike start right up then a min later bike turn off. try to start it cant hear fuel pump prime but can hear fluid pump relay click. pick up bike late that day , it started right up and try go up ramp it just die. a week pass i have bike in my garage and try to start it and it stay on for few mins.
Got the same issue on the 954 Fireblade, Ill go and get a 9v batt and hope it works, funny thing is that It started with the headlight not working. we will see!
Hi there, I have the same problem my bike is a 2006rr and they don’t have the pink wire on the plug like your they are only two wire coming out both end
hey andrew i try this a few days ago and it work wonderful but there after i lost power in the pink wire and i didnt get any spark on the plugs the voltage drop to 3.73 even after connecting the pink wire back direct without the small battery

the diode will need to be put in backwards, the normal way will produce 12v and in reverse, it will limit the voltage to 9.1v. (they are a special type of diode)
Zener Diodes are better than Resisters because they will maintain the 9.1v regardless of the voltage on the battery 10-15v. eg. when charging.
Are you grounding that 9 volt battery somewhere ? Or are you just using the positive side on that 9 volt?
You are number one!!!
Save me a lot of headaches !!!
Thank you for the video!!!
Very helpful thanks great job the diode needed to solve this issue is a zener diode 9v resistance which will regulate voltage 12v to 9v
Hey can u tell me how you hooked the 9volt battery up to get it to prime I cant get it to work
Thanks for the video, my 2012 CBR1000RR was running great until I washed it, now the fuel pump isn't priming, I'm going to look into this as one of the causes!
did you ever figure it out? im currently having a priming issue with my 09 cbr as well and want to try this method
Bro same happened to me and I couldn't find anything on it. But the plug from the main harness to the harness to the front of the bike got water stuck in there and melted the plug from the inside (you can't see the problem) unplug it and see that.
any of you guys find the solution to this issue i have a 2007 cbr and im having the same issue
@@PABLOESCOBAR-ph3el any of you guys find the solution to this issue i have a 2007 cbr and im having the same issue
@@SteelX1000 any of you guys find the solution to this issue i have a 2007 cbr and im having the same issue
What was the problem?
Having the same issue. Where is the BAS located? Can't find it in the owners manual.
So where exactly are you hooking the black wire to? Ground?
Dude you're a hero man got me back on my bike again thanks you sir
heck yea man very good video. explained it very well . of all videos iv watched to figure out the problem of my honda cbr 600 rr. this one was the too one to help. thank you
Curious did you put the kick stand up. Make sure neutral and start bike.
Thank you for your video I have a 97 Suzuki GSXR 600 Srad with no spark and I have replaced all electrical components and the complete wiring harness and some how I think it could be with the key ignition
In this situation did you also have no spark in having a simile issue if not the same with my 05 it cranks but not getting fuel and spark
i use a 1000 ohm resistor to fix it. i cut the pink wire , tied one end of the resistor to it. the other side to one of the wires that get power when the key is on. it works fine.
Boris Alegre
I use a Honda CBR1000RR Feel pump is not working how to fix !
I need a help
Thanks, It fixed my problem on 2003 cbr954
I have the exact same bike as you and I am having the same problem with my fuel primer. It is super weird because the fuel primer DOES connect but after turning it off and on it DOES NOT connect any more and i have to wait 10 minutes of turning the bike on and off for it to finally connect again which enables me to start the bike. Did your bike have the same issue or did it not connect at all?
Did you fix your issue?
good job bro, you helped us out immensely thank you
I got a nine volt battery hang I don’t know how to do the diode thing or which one to get, this 9v battery last about a month or so... u have a like to the diode thing? Thanks a lot for the the video!!!
Cool video I have 1 sit for a year never knew or heard this b 4 thanks
Thanks man... i think you salve me a lot of time, and headhacks... my transalp 700 has this simtoms... i will try to share...
don't have this pink wire from ignition... transalp 700 - 2009 europe... 😒😒😒
following the honda manual ... the steps show me a bad ECM... ECM caput... 😢😢
Awesome, that was exactly our problem too, customer crossed the jumper wire and cause this issue
so I’m confused why is there that black thing on the pink wire going to the 9v battery? Is that a zener diode?
Hi Andrew, I wanted to ask you if your control unit is of the American type and if this operation can also be carried out on a European one.
the pink thread that number of pins has? Thanks so much
Love your work and getting to the bottom of the problem.
If it was that wire which wire or wires do o put the resistor on cuz im having that same problem with my new ignition switch.
On the 9v positive side to the wire. Does the negative side go to battery negative?
yep
Nice job on this video I’m having this issue right now 🤦♂️ pain in my a** to say the lest
MyKey Productions did it work
Your video is a god send bro... A year bro trying to sort this mess out. Did everything gave up.
ezy jones what did you do on bike?
I've jumped my bike with 12 V every time and it works just fine And it's a 2006 CBR 600 RR
Did you get the problem
@@twirltheworld2262 No. I still have the problem. The fuel pump will only prime if I disconnect the left side head light. When I do that, all four blinker will stay half way on.
Just bought a project f4i with no spark and when the guy started to turn it over i heard to fuel prime. Glad I found this video. Im sure this will fix it. Are there any aftermarket ignition switches with the pink wire?
My ECU has two pink wires. One pink and white and one pink and green; which one did you hook yours up to?
Thank you so so much for helping the only thing that helped and solved my problem.
hi andrew ive got the same problem to the t on my 929 2001 model definately going to try this nice video very informative ride safe from south arica
Is it the same with cbr 1000 05 model? The zener diode?
Hey Andrew. I have tried the 9v trick but not dice. Pump is priming when straight juice from batt direct. So it’s not pump. Any other suggestions.? Thanks
Once I do this n it works if I turned the bike off would I have to redo this with the 9v battery or would I be better off buying a new key switch
So I have a 2004 cbr and I have a new ignition switch I haven’t tested the Ecu yet I tested the engine start relay the fan relay and the the fuel relay and 2 of them were bad could this be my problem as well the bike won’t prime the pump and I tested the pump and it is fone
Dude massive props to this video, good job thank you
Awesome video thank you for making life easier for others.
Where did you find an ignition with the diode in it
If buy new key set is that help?i buy whole new wiring for my bike,
symptom,
My bike sudenly lost power when ride and die,it hard to start,
when i try to start it again it won't start and my fuelpump suddenly wont prime.
Is that the same for your case sir?
Is that to do with the zener diode on the key?
Ecm problem bro
I have an 02 cbr 929 I’ve checked EVERYTHING. Replaced ecu and all relays are good and fuel pump will even prime but the injectors will not shoot. My diode reading is only 8.4. Would that be the problem??
I'm having a similar issue but sometimes fuel pump will prime just fine and others it refuses too could this be the issue?
I have the same problem. How did you connect the 9v?
I fix my problem with my bike the was the yellow box left side no ground on one wire I ground it and case solved!
Can you see the diod is damaged by looking at it?
No
Thank you for making this vídeo. You save me
Sorry for the stupid question, but how do i fix this permantly?
hey andrew i try this a few days ago and it work wonderful but there after i lost power in the pink wire and i didnt get any spark on the plugs the voltage drop to 3.73 even after connecting the pink wire back direct without the small battery
