Some heat wrap around the header pipe where it passes the frame cradle & sweeps past the cylinder. Protect your leg & the cooling system. Might be smart to wrap a bit further along towards the silencer, protecting the shock reservoir, etc. Heat being the silent killer. And cheaper than a pair of riding pants, as I found out.
I recently bought a 24 480 for all the same reasons & am really liking it & cameras don't do justice on good they look hey. I had the dealer replace the plastic oil pump gears & install the radiator fan from new to get it out of the way. I've fitted the Beta axp racing bash plate which is great because it protects the rear shock linkage too, acerbis hand guards & after running it in have gone to 15 / 48 gearing which I'm happy with as it cruises nice at 100kph and have got 150kph on the dirt + it had more. The gearing change improved fuel economy from around 6L/100k with original gearing to 4.6L/100k but I'll eventually get the 19L tank because it goes around the radiators therefore protecting them so won't need braces + it's better to be looking at the fuel than looking for it & you don't have to run it full if you don't need to. Got the nice CNC side stand bigfoot to install, got the nice CNC side stand but it's the same length as stock and nearly twice as heavy so won't put that on. Might get the led Baja headlight too. Love the motor & have learnt to use the rain map on the hills and technical single track which helps chill it out. I like what you did with the tail tidy, I fitted the road tail that was in the spares and hate it so want to put the original back on - did the indicators mount on ok to the enduro tail tidy or require any mods? Cheers mate I'll be subscribing 😉
@@scoot491 thanks for all of that awesome info mate! The tail tidy up was pretty easy. I just had to use a grinder to flatten out the spots where the indicators are mounted. So they’d sit flat and level. But didn’t take too long and came up pretty good I think. 🤙🏼
Good choice! I've done the same thing with the same bike, for pretty much the same reasons. Something different, compelling pricing, wanted the lightweight bike, liked the idea of separate oil chambers as well. I've gone with the big rally tank, not convinced it was the right choice though.
Other things I've done other than protection. I run a heavier shock spring, no need to change fork springs imo. I'm 100kg. The plumbing around the tank didn't like it once I started playing with it so I've replaced most of the clamps back there to traditional ones that can be loosened and tightened. I replaced the plastic elbow coming out of the tank to a metal one. I also replaced the fuel filter which are supposedly a weak point with one rated to 250 hours and is serviceable from taco moto in the US. It's not cheap but it's for peace of mind because apparently the stock plastic filters are known to split if left too long. I've just done the steel oil pump gears. I was told by the dealer that this could make the engine make an unusual noise but I haven't experienced this. I have new foam and seat cover coming as we speak from strike.
In my opinion the duel oil cases can be issue you have less oil to stay cool and retain viscosity at hight temps ,, ,ktm tried it on early 2008 530exc ,650ml in crank case is simply not enough for desert racing and bikes were running dry on oil in stage 1 of Baja 500 , cracking the bolt open to only find a dribble of oil running out ,other bikes had issues with seal allowing oil to escape into gear box oil , but time will tell makes oil change ease with one bottle you could take with you ,
Looks awesome Josh! Have only started paying attention to Beta's a bit more. Love the idea of some rally riding - I would love to do the same but I'm probably too old past 40. Bring it on mate.
Following closely, love my DRZ, but sometimes want something a little lighter and a bit more modern...the 480 RR Racing, blue and red, looks the part.24 model runout is a good savings.
I love my 480 in the dirt. All types of dirt. Sealed roads are a different story. It would be more fun to push it, seriously. Even with 15/45 street gearing it rubbish on the road.
Looks like a lot of fun! One great thing about choosing beta, is they don't seem to suffer with all those fuel flaming issues that the likes of those popular brands do! Perhaps they don't have to meet as strict emission standards being a smaller company not sure but I know a new ktm/husqvarna requires $ thrown at it to rectify this issue!
@@danielryle5596 I believe you are correct. I think they get away with a little more than the Austrian brands. They are getting bigger every year so hopefully they can continue to keep them as they are at the moment.
Should be interesting to see what it end up like mate, i built a ktm rally on my channel grabbed both 12 and 17 litre tank and never used the 12. As for oil just check out keith jobsons channel on what u can safely get out of touring oil distances ,he did a comparison between two bikes then sent the oil to catapilla to be tested. I also run a capacitor inline with battery permanently so if my battery fails i can bum start bike and the capacitor runs the fuel pump.
