Hey, everyone, it's Neil Patel here for another Q&A Thursday video. I'm here with Adam LaDolce from Viewership.
This one is from Albert Santiago de la Cruz, and this question is very pointed to Neil, what do you think of AdSense?
I hate AdSense, I hate UA-cam ads, no offense UA-cam, no offense Google because you're making good money from it and other people are as well, good for them. I hate Facebook ads because you can now monetize your videos on Facebook. I hate any form of banner ads. And the reason I hate ads is for one thing, well technically I don't hate ads, I like buying ads.
I just hate putting ads on my own website. And here's why I hate putting ads on my website. Number one, if I put AdSense on my website, I'm getting a fraction of the money. Google the middleman is keeping the other portion and there's nothing wrong with that. They're in business to make money too and they do it, but you as a publisher you're not keeping the majority of the money, or you may or who knows what the split is. But I don't think everything is crystal clear on how much you get to keep.
Number two, if someone continually advertises on your website, that means they're making more money than whatever they're paying you. And they're just not paying you money, they're paying Google money and they're paying Google more money than whatever you're getting. Which means they're making more money than whatever they're spending. So if they're making more money, that means you would make more money if you just sold a product or service like they are doing. To give you a good idea, Adam puts AdSense on your UA-cam videos right?
He has over a million views, that's a lot. How much revenue do you generate from those ads per month?
About $2,000, $2500.
$2,000 to $2500 a month. That's not bad, that's a good amount of money. But with your UA-cam channel when you first started off and you started selling info products and Ebooks from that same traffic, before you even had your own website, how much revenue were you generating when you did that?
Yeah like 10X that, easily, when I first started.
So he was generating $20,000 a month roughly. That's so much more than putting AdSense on your sites. You get what I mean right?
I'm not trying to say that you shouldn't use AdSense because I hate Google. I love Google, it's my favorite search engine. I'm just saying you would make more money if you created your own products or services and then you were the one who was doing the advertising. You don't wanna be the person at the bottom of the totem pole. You wanna be the person who's buying the ads. You don't wanna be the person who's serving ads.
Technically if you're Google and you're serving ads you'd be at the top of the totem pole but you don't wanna be the person placing ads on your website, you wanna be the person who is buying the ads because that's where the money is.
I also just one last thing on why I personally hate AdSense or at least relying on that as your sole source of income is that your entire livelihood in life is all dependent on this other company. Basically, Google is your boss. Like Google can fire you and they can shut you down, they can demonetize you, especially on UA-cam and then suddenly your business, let's say I have known UA-camrs who make $50, $60,000 a month from AdSense, you get demonetized, you're out. That's it.
There goes your income. And if you wanna do ads, you can use AdSense, but consider AdSense, consider direct ad sales, consider signing up for other media partners or ad partners, do direct sales, whatever it is. And by doing that, you won't be as reliant on AdSense and then you'll have income coming from multiple places. So if something wrong happened at least you'd still be making money.

just after using 10 days of adsense, i shifted to affiliate marketing...i saw no point in doing adsense when you can make more money thru affiliate marketing.

After putting adsense on my website, I noticed my traffic from goggle analytics when down by at least 15 to 20 percent. Is goggle doing something?

@Neil Patel - I've made over $400K on Adsense. Some sites are just not made for product/service sales, and adsense is great.
That said, on my product site I don't use adsense ... but then again I sell AdSense WP plugin :)

I wouldn't want Adsense on my website either. If anything, I'll just add it to my UA-cam or Facebook account. I want people to see my content not ads. I wholeheartedly agree with you.

Better to focus on building up traffic and authority and then sell something you actually own. Whether that is an actual product, digital product, course, etc. is up to you.

but how come few thousand dollars? what u did to get even few 'thousand of dollars'? i have three websites, have adsense on all three, running facebook ads, getting 500-800 views daily, but not making a single dollar a day, believe me, i again repeat, not making just 1 dollar a day. @@neilpatel yeah...exactly why Tai Lopez and Grant Cardone don't put UA-cam ads on their videos...because that reduces viewership...and the make 100x the ad revenue when people VIEW their content :D

wait, did you promote your website with Adsense on google? Google prefers ORGANIC traffic. Some people say too much traffic from social media can affect adsense.

What tactic of SEO would you perform when a certain keyword you want to rank for has competition with very low/poor content but very strong backlinks and domain authority?
Especially when the website you are using has low domain authority + weak backlink profile
Just create amazing content. Over time Google wants quality. Backlinks are just one of the factors they take into consideration when ranking of more than 200 factors.

Google knows that not everybody likes AdSense :) I prefer organic methods.
Hate them (ads in general) too, but use them anyway lol... Google adsense does pay you peanuts. I waited After my site reached about 25k Visitors a month, then I started to use mediavine, which is great... When it gets over 100,000 visits, I'll consider adthrive, what do you think about those? .... But I'd rather do that than use Adsense... I still feel funny about "Serving" Ads though, so I totally get what you're saying.. I reduced the amount of ads that shows a couple of weeks ago. Neil, would you ever link to a resource if you see they are serving ads? Even if the content is valuable?
If the resource is valuable then I would consider linking to it. I wouldn't, however, use any ads on my site.
How much more do you make with mediavine compared to adsense?

You can sell premium tutorials, sell consulting services, sell Excel temples, etc.!

For me, for startup. Just put absence and when you get traffic that's the time you leave a sense when you can find other ways to earn, why leave when you don't have income on that site.
I just personally don't prefer it. That doesn't mean it can't be useful to other businesses :)
Sponsored post - most of the players don't want to show their post as a sponsored post or labelled as sponsored and in that case, if you labelled - you lose money. Whats your point of view on this
I think they can work but not as well as a native post. Just like Google AdWords works... but not as well as ranking organically ;)

I hate ads on my blogs as well. I use Media vine, are you specifically regerring to ad sense? But what do you recommend? I get about 150k visits a month... That I create my own images and place them throughout the posts and have them link to a product/sales pages? I do sell a language course. Do you think it will be more profitable If i use images for affiliate pages? Do you even recommend that I use images at all?
Yes I was referring to AdSense, but it's mainly because I don't like the disruption it causes on web pages. So this could be any ad tool, really. Images can be helpful! Everything is worth testing out, honestly. That's how you find what works best with your specific audience.
Hey Neil, I agree with you but tell me How Small Blogger earn from Blog/website without Adsense. I know there are so many Adsense alternative but other ads Network badly affect on user Experience so How can New Blogger earn without Adsense ?
For New Blogger its hard to Rank on Affiliate keywords too.
AdSense and Affiliate marketing at the best ways to earn through your blog. Otherwise you can offer some sort of product, course, or eBook to sell.

Sir do you also think that there are a large number of policies and code of conduct of Adscence which isn't easy for everyone to follow?. I mean firstly we work hard to get our website approved and after some time a mail received from Adscence that your account is suspended due to policy voilation. I mean how awful experience is this?
Totally I think there are very specific guidelines that site have to follow before they can even be approved.
AdSense is certainly bad for UX and also dangerous to have on a blog, website or UA-cam channel as one can be demonetised at anytime left isolated without an income, Please share some insights on whether there are any other good alternatives to AdSense which will generate monetary value on a blog, website or UA-cam channel which has excellent content

hey Neil, the thing about adsense is it is user specific. suppose I am in the web design field, I am shown an ad of hostgator then. in this case, adsense is kind of good. And if I am using only adsense, how can I study, who is showing ads on my website?? as it is different for everyone?.
My reason for not liking Adsense isn't about that... it's about the fact that they are terrible for the experience of your visitor

Hating Adsense is not helpful. Why throw away easy money? The key is to diversify so you do not become dependent on Adsense or anyone else. Also, why begrudge Google their cut, Neil? They paid for the ad infrastructure and get people to buy ads, and that has tremendous value.
Adsense is awful for the user experience. I don't begrudge Google for taking a huge cut, I just find it ironic that a company so obsessed with providing the best experience for their users would have a service like Adsense that makes the user experience just awful.

I guess I never noticed that Google was interested in providing the best user experience. I thought they were in it for the money. They have revenue of over $110 billion per year, mostly from selling ads and the data they mine from their users. So, the user experience they offer seems to be working better than what others offer. In a perfect world, I'd agree user experience is more important than money. But I'm a pragmatist, not an ideologue, so in our current imperfect world, I'll take the Google Adsense money. :)

I haven't heard of either of those platforms, friend! Have you tried AdSense?
Silly answer from neil. Adthrive is now much harder to get into. Makes sure your Google analytics says 10k sessions in month then you can apply to ezoic. It will easily triple or more your adsense revenue

Adsense sucks violating terms then they put you in a loop never telling you why. Impossible information you cant get being locked out. One big loop that you will never figure out. Is there anyone else besides them to go threw??

Focus on a specific niche, don't go too broad. Instagram and Pinterest can both be good platforms for you.
Wow...youtuber that actually takes the time to reply to comments?? Unheard of lol. I am hesitating doing ads on my website because it will slow it down and clutter it up. Also...I don't want my visitors being distracted. I would rather get commission directly from the owner because of the article I am recommending for people 😀
