That was one of the greatest finishes I've watched in 30 yrs of watching every single stage of every TDF. At 10k to go I thought they'd get caught, at 4k I thought for sure they'd get caught. But when they showed the view of that last corner, I was amazed they held the gap. Awesome!
What a start -- absolutely loved the race and your coverage! Congrats on taking a risk with this format and nailing it. Looking forward to the next 3 weeks!
I have never in my life had an interest in following a cycling race but you guys have gotten me interested. looking forward to following your recaps as it goes on. I might even try to watch a bit of it!
Great show guys, can confirm that Cav threw up on the bike at 60km/hr, poor chap was struggling a bit, but still demonstrating good skill to spuke whilst descending. So excited for more of this show.
Tomorrow they will do two climbs on the San Luca and there is a stretch at 18%, so yeah, the finale should be funny to watch as somebody will make a move on that climb
@@ProducerEmilydo you know if the spectator who caused that awful accident before the race even started was charged at all? Someone throwing crisps in Poggi and Jonas faces would later be charged with aggravated assault (also should have been charged with wanton waste of good crisps too, but that’s a whole other discussion) My point being, if someone can be charged with aggravated assault (and rightly so) for the “crisps incident”, how the hell can someone who breaks 3 teeth of a Pro Rider - before the stage had even started no less - get away with doing so? Just asking in case you were aware of any further context to that incident and can clarify if they were charged, as I never heard any more about it. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing during that pre-stage live stream! Maddening. Considering the cost of fixing that Riders teeth (not to mention the pain, and emotional and mental distress in the moment during a high pressure environment they’ve trained so hard for - as well as the pain and discomfort post-surgery) I hope there were some serious repercussions. It would be a really interesting episode or section to do following-up on some of these kind of incidents, so we have some facts about who did what, the charges, and any statements made to the Press after the fact etc - like the Woman who was holding that “Allez” sign that smacked Tony Martin in the face and decimated the Peloton (and I believe a couple of Riders TDF ended there and one - who’s name escapes me right now - basically retired because of it) I’d love to see a serious deep-dive into this topic at some point if possible - I just can’t for the life of me understand why the UCi is all about rules, consistency and safety measures, yet are so inconsistent with handling incidents like that which surely demands perpetrators be made examples of (like paying a Riders Medical Bill for one!) Final point *(I know, I’m far too verbose for my own good!)* kudos to the way the Tour of Britain was handled though - it was refreshing to see [pretty much] every traffic island and possible hazard either clearly defined or physically signalled by Moto-Riders upon the approach of the Peloton. It just proved that with some actual forethought and proper organisation, it can be done. Rider safety should always be absolutely paramount. No more careers and lives cut short and families like deprived of their loved ones like Andre Drege or Gino Mäder these past few seasons. A cherished friend races for Ineos and as much as I do adore this Sport, I know so much more could be done to limit injury and prevent any further deaths. (Apologies for the long-ass*d reply - if you made it this far, thank you - and have a cookie!) 😋
Checking strava Poggi ave 40kph, therefore the peloton Ave that, over 3800 meters of climbing. For Cav to finish 39 mins down, he hasn't done badly, especially if he has a stomach issue.
Thanks Emily , Jimmi , and The "Beast of the North "....how did the looooooong neutral start not eff the race up , big time ?? What was that about anyway ?? Weird
Great new format, well done team! I know it felt like a bit of a risk but i think its paid off and im excited to see you carry on with this. See you tomorrow!
This is good breakfast watch - good length! Well done. Pleased to see you cover this - thought you send in one of your early pods that you were not interested in pro riding? Good to see that’s not the case.
Remco's crash before the Tour, is a bit of a blessing for him. As it means he can ride without pressure for his first one and nobody will be surprised if he loses time.
Excuse me, it's Sr Mark Cav 😂he probably threw up cuz he just slammed 2 water bottles at once with other things. 🤔Also Eddie Mercx wasn't a sprinter, he was a GC contender. 😌
Remember, the imp did this exact same thing last year during stages 5 and 6, I believe. Sat up before the climbs, took a couple days off, and then tried to win stage 7. Didn't even try to ride with the other non-climbers (only Fabio, who crashed hard on stage 4 lagged with him).
I think Cav is already the sprinting goat, but number of tdf wins is the prize this year. I dont think Mercx was a sprinter - albeit he's before my time.
You are correct. That was one of the worst ‘corrections’ I’ve heard. Cavendish is definitely the greatest sprinter of all time and Merckx was not a sprinter, but is considered the greatest cyclists of all time (if you don’t mind the doping bans) 🤷♂️
If these are the shows for the next 3 weeks and daily. Bring it on !!!!! Didn’t think the tour would get better. But this support show has just made my day. Thank you team.
Great talk as always! However, perhaps misunderstood but Jonas Vingegaards punctured lunch being a smoke and suitable for the team sounded a bit too steep for me at least... From a medical point of view a traumatic caused punctured lung is a serious damage.
That moment, when you turn the official Czech stream on and the first thing you hear is: "We have only one cyclist in the Tour and got his teeth broken before the race even started."
Vingegaard will win. He never has bad stages, very light, and has an extremely strong psyche and good team. Van Aert seems to be in good shape and will be able to help out
Bittersweet for Bardet. Finally gets his yellow jersey, and it’s not in France. I hope, but he probably won’t be able to hold it long enough to wear it in France
Big expensive mikes but poor mike technique. Too 'plosive'. Please lower mike so it's below chin. Talk across top of mike, not into it. They are sensitive instruments; stop overpowering them, and it'll make for more appealing video too, when you can see more of people's faces. Mind you, these guys have often said they don't read comments, so this is more for other viewers to observe than in any expectation Jimmy or Emily will actually change what they're doing. On the plus side, good to see cables in this set up having a bit more freedom; not pulled at a very tight angle from bottom of mike. Congrats on that.
So excited to be part of this.
You looked pleased as punch 😂 or was that just because of the Scott 1-2
Love the show. But l would have watched it earlier if l know Tony was on. Bloody legend 😊

Surprised you came on after the roasted your ride. 😜
Thanks for being on!
Love the format. Maybe throw in some explanations for us newbies on why a breakaway forms and what the time cutoffs would be.
What a start -- absolutely loved the race and your coverage! Congrats on taking a risk with this format and nailing it. Looking forward to the next 3 weeks!

Tony is the ultimate guest for your podcast! Pure positive energy and enthusiasm.
Great show guys, can confirm that Cav threw up on the bike at 60km/hr, poor chap was struggling a bit, but still demonstrating good skill to spuke whilst descending. So excited for more of this show.
did you not know Eddie mercx planned this years route 🤣🤣
I'm totally on Team Roglic now. That Pup sold me. Well done😊.
Wooo! Stoked to hear your guys recap, been listening to wild ones from day one at work. What a stage, chaos AND the breakaway reigns!😊
Thanks for the TdF update! Looking forward to the rest.
Great guest on the first pro show
What a great first stage, absolutely loved it
Thank you for the Day 1 TDF wrap up it was great 👍
300k! Congratulations team at Cade Media
Love the new race day recaps. Looking forward to tomorrow’s race and your podcast after!
Producer Emily, love the Mystic Bella idea!
Yes! More of this, looking forward to the next three weeks.
Trust me will get better.
Good work, team! I’ll be tuning in every day!
Tomorrow they will do two climbs on the San Luca and there is a stretch at 18%, so yeah, the finale should be funny to watch as somebody will make a move on that climb
Great show with Tony. Love the interaction of the team. Muss Francis, but he's probably out there somewhere having a great time.
Can I just comment on how happy I am that you've finally got Emily's mic cable sorted out - it's been doing my head in for months!
😂😂

The margins get smaller the higher the speed, so Cav was probably averaging something like 35, which is still insane.
@hendrixinfinity3992 That was my guess, circa 34 to 36kph. Which as you say is insane.
Cracking first episode guys. Straight to the point and "nowt daft" 😉
Great to see Tony back on the channel.
Thanks Emily , Jimmi , and The "Beast of the North "....how did the looooooong neutral start not eff the race up , big time ?? What was that about anyway ?? Weird
CADE X NOWT DAFT was a success and a dream for Tony with a Scott bikes 1-2 keep up the good work 👏
Cav finished in a group of 8 riders, not 70. He was 9 minutes behind the grupetto.
Great new format, well done team! I know it felt like a bit of a risk but i think its paid off and im excited to see you carry on with this. See you tomorrow!
Well done Cade Media 👍
Great new format 👍
Glad for the daily recaps, keep it up guys!
nice to see Tony. The person with the most ironic channel name on UA-cam. What a legend
Advertising a "Pro" podcast but surprising us with The Mystic Bella.
Great episode, nice to see tony on the podcast .most importantly nout daft🤟
great format 😘
This tdf is gonna be 🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is good breakfast watch - good length! Well done. Pleased to see you cover this - thought you send in one of your early pods that you were not interested in pro riding? Good to see that’s not the case.
For a fun game, you should try and guess what the pro team sponsors make as a company.
Been done.
Love this format!
Remco's crash before the Tour, is a bit of a blessing for him. As it means he can ride without pressure for his first one and nobody will be surprised if he loses time.
tony?! hell ya, great content!! starting out setting a high bar.
Thank you.
you guys should've covered the giro, and the spring classics as well.
Excuse me, it's Sr Mark Cav 😂he probably threw up cuz he just slammed 2 water bottles at once with other things. 🤔Also Eddie Mercx wasn't a sprinter, he was a GC contender. 😌
cavs already the greatest sprinter Merckx got his wins in a variety of ways he’s just trying to get to the most stage wins at the TDF nowt daft
where’s this new filming location?! :) thank you for doing this, guys
What do you guys think about flares during the stages. Are they toxic?
Good format 👏 and btw Tony for president!
Cav is already the greatest tdf
sprinter of all time as Eddy Mercx wins were not all sprints, Cavs were all sprints. MCH
Good show. I’m in for the long haul.
More from Tony please....great craic
Best. Thing. Ever!
I like the protective earth electrical tape on Em's mic but I don't know what to feel on Jimmi's outdated (it's supposed to be brown now) red tape.
Would not surprise me, if Cavendish has to abandon at some point, he looked on deaths door.
Probably needs to get used to the heat.
Nah it's all a plans
No way in hell.
That teams sole purpose this tour is to get him that win. They’re not going to expend more energy than they need to on an opening hilly day
I think Cav is already the sprinting goat, but number of tdf wins is the prize this year. I dont think Mercx was a sprinter - albeit he's before my time.
Cav sincerely deserves it because, let’s just say, it was a different time when the other guy set the record.
You are correct. That was one of the worst ‘corrections’ I’ve heard. Cavendish is definitely the greatest sprinter of all time and Merckx was not a sprinter, but is considered the greatest cyclists of all time (if you don’t mind the doping bans) 🤷♂️
@@rob-c. I love how some cyclists get a pass on the oul doping but others never hear the end of it.
Excellent job!
I'll tell you this about tomorrow's stage. They won't let the break get too far up the road after what happened today.
Agreed. Also, I bet Pogi is chomping on the bit to lead out.
maybe not ha
Cav is THE best Sprinter ever in the Tour. Mercx won his stages in many ways . Love the show.
If these are the shows for the next 3 weeks and daily. Bring it on !!!!! Didn’t think the tour would get better. But this support show has just made my day.
Thank you team.
Tony brought some fun to it. he's a good egg.
I agree Pog triple.
I'm surprised that there are no Blaerosuits in the peleton, given the advantages seen at Unbound.
Great talk as always! However, perhaps misunderstood but Jonas Vingegaards punctured lunch being a smoke and suitable for the team sounded a bit too steep for me at least... From a medical point of view a traumatic caused punctured lung is a serious damage.
Good 1st show.
Not limited to this podcast - but why all the massive microphones these days ?
Great discussion to provide insights !
No spoilers in the thumbnail and title! Cmon guys wtf?
This is social media. If you don’t want to know what’s happened, you know what to do…..
Did he say Remco VDP?
How can you not forget the dark days? Armstrong et all!
I just watched my 4th Tour de France stage 1 breakdown show, WTF is wrong with me?
Tdf people areeee maddd ! Opening stage is a time trial ! Not a 200 km race !
That moment, when you turn the official Czech stream on and the first thing you hear is: "We have only one cyclist in the Tour and got his teeth broken before the race even started."
Good job🎉
Vingegaard will win. He never has bad stages, very light, and has an extremely strong psyche and good team. Van Aert seems to be in good shape and will be able to help out
Just gonna put this here, JONAS will come out on top in the end. 😉
I wonder what the percentage is of the peloton catching the breakaway over time.
Brilliant 😎
I agree that if Pogacar wins the TdF, he’s going for the Triple! Without Kuss, I think Pogacar has a good shot at winning again.
I love that Emily is on team Roglic. I think people are pulling hard for him even just out of sentiment.
I can’t stop looking at the electrical tape on Jimmy and Emily’s microphone. 🙈
I have Covid right now. If I had to get on a bicycle I would die about 1km in I think
Pidcock isn’t even finishing the TDF, as he is going to want to focus on winning the XC Olympic Gold.
Lemond 89 vs Fignon. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come’On…. Only been 35 years. Let’s see a final day race. Please. Please. PLEASE - PLEASE
Cavendish was suffering from the heat which was causing him to throw up on the bike. The consequences of heat injury can be quite bad!
The current variant of COVID effects the digestive system more than the respiratory system. Hopefully the teams stay healthy.
Bittersweet for Bardet. Finally gets his yellow jersey, and it’s not in France. I hope, but he probably won’t be able to hold it long enough to wear it in France
Gall is my pick 😅
Did you not watch all of the stage? It was on film of him being sick!!
Merckx wasn’t a sprinter btw
I like this... very much :).
Yessssssss. LFG!
why so little said about Bardet win, that was something special. Guys let your guests speak more and give more insights.
Easy tripple. Crap. If Rog wins TDF I’m going to be seeing myself waiting until Vuelta. He must MUST race try the Trip!
This show is awesome!
I think drugs have returned to the tour . Pog viney and others. Time will tell
wout ... after that nasty crash
Returned? You think they went away?
Or drug testing will. You know, the kind they are exposed to All. The. Bloody. Time? Sure, they're all drugged. Sure.
no Netflix this time ? ))
The ladies always pick Primo.
Ace!

No snake oil promotions at the start of the show? 😜
Any news in what's going on with Cav? He is sick or just unfit i wonder
Definitely a bug. You’re not sick on the bike such a short time into stage one from lack of fitness.
Team doctor got his "vitamins" wrong.
3:03 Socks 'n' crocs 😱
