Context:
Soz O Salam is a song of mourning.
The words and the composition are a salute to Hazrat Abbas who does not worry about his own self & sacrifices his life for his brother HazratImmamHussain.
Also, for certain Islamic sects, the song acts as a prayer to offer condolence for the martyrs of Mohram of Karbala.
It is for this reason that while performing the song during the shoot, none of the performers wore footwear, as a mark of respect to the departed souls.

Actually it is a tribute to Hazrat Abbas (A.S), who was the step-bother of Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S).
In english it can be translated as, "Our message of repect & greetings to Hazrat Abbas (A.S) who didnt bear the sorrow of Imam Hussain (A.S) and he gave no worth to his life and stand with his brother till martyrdom"
Actually this is referring to the incident of Karabala.

It is a tribute to Abbas who laid down his life for his step-brother, Husain, in a battle nearly 1370 years ago at Karbala in Iraq. Husain was the son of the daughter of Prophet of Islam. He was Ali's son revered by almost all Muslim sufi traditions. Husain, along with nearly 18 youths of his family, and 54 other supporters was slaughtered when he refused to give his allegiance to a tyrant. Women in his convoy, including his sister, and kids were taken prisoners. This event if commemorated by Shia Muslims every year. However, the story is so powerful, it moves most people regardless of religion and race. There is a wealth of literature, poetry, and music related to Karbala.

I do not know if the first couplet ('usko mujra..) is part of a longer salam and if it is whose kalam it is and where to find the complete salam. I do believe the second couplet (saq-i-basafa..) is a couplet from a longer salam attributed to Lal Shahbaz Qalandar of Sehwan!.

The first couplet can be translated as follows:
Salutations to him who did not accept Lord's (Husain's) sorrow; That is Abbas, who did not prefer his own life over his brother's (Husain's).
The second couplet as follows:

The instrument at 3:25 that is continuum fingerboard is just awesome. ARR has a thing for it. Probably he is the only Indian composer to use it so many times in songs like Rehna Tu, Acid Darbari soundtrack from 127 Hours, Kadal etc.

It should be noted that Soz o Salam is not something to 'sing', instead it is 'recited'. Also, it is never recited with music and the absence of music does not undermine its effectiveness. Alternatively, it must not be called "Soz o Salam". Soazkhwani is not something new in India. We appreciate the spirit of participants in this recital but they are supposed to know the norms of Soazkhwani.
I don't understand. Music is just sound too. But it's organised sounds which create feeling. I don't see anything wrong with conveying this with music. It's utterly beautiful. There are certain rules to everything but it should be common sense to become flexible with time and change a few things.

this song moved me to tears - something so other-wordly, so ethereal
Soaz and Salam with musical instrument and in particular with back ground lip whistling has no justification and not our tradition in all over sub continent. However, the naferi and Nobat put up on sad days but in different ways at all at Bhit shah and Sehwan etc. I personally sit there and listened. It is not appreciable at all.

Please drop Padmabhushan from the title of the song. You are abusing the Fundamental right under article 18 of Indian constitution which abolished use of titles.
