    Brilliant as usual !
    I am still using the patch on my Yamaha i asked you the other day "Ocean of Sawz" from your V-synth which you recreated, thanks again and again!
    The skills and ability to "squeeze" a huge trance sounds from any synth are amazing.
    Back in 1996 friend of mine did similar things on ENSONIQ SQ1 plus. No computers but synth engine and sequencer.
    As for the new master keyboard consider NOVATION SL MK 3 its the best both for hardware and DAW.
    (Akai falling dead in a couple of years use. Arturia good but supporting only one master midi channel etc.) Novation is the best bet.
    Greetings from Ukraine!

    Awesome tour and great to see how you reworked your studio. Still love those Quasimidi and Roland trance patches you so graciously shared for free years ago 🖤

    Thanks for the tour. You inspire people through your use of of gear which are not the usual suspects. Sounds and music are in those devices - one just needs to know how to harvest them.

    Quite informatvie and entertaining, you have quite good hardware setup there. QM Sirius is the synth I regret selling the most, probably I'll get one again. Nice way of filming - combining static camera with a video from your phone. Takes time to edit, but gives more 'presence' in the end.

    thanks for sharing, this is exactly the sort of content i'd like to see more of. The more detail you provide regarding specific equipment used, settings, effects/processing the better really :) have you considered putting together single songs/song packs for people to purchase for download that include midi files, samples and text file with details about how each sound is created and suggestions for effects used etc as i'm sure people would like to re-create your music and learn the process of what's involved to achieve a similar sound :)

      I have done that with a few of my sound demo clips when people asked for it. I'm planning on doing live streams in the near future so there should be some stuff to learn there too. :)

    A very interesting tour, thanks. If you're curious I can recommend a Yamaha MU100 or MU100R. They are XG/GM but they have a 'Performance Mode' where you can layer up to 4 sounds which makes for some really nice multi layered instruments.

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  3 роки тому +2

      I've considered getting a MU128 or 1000 or 2000 for their slighty more modern sound sets. However, the QY100's is even different and a bit more modern, especially when it comes to drum sounds. Also with the right software you could set the XG tone generator in "Performance Mode" as well. The basics are there, but the interface isn't made for it.

    • @EgoShredder
      @EgoShredder 2 роки тому +1

      I own four MU100R units with six different PLG boards. Back in the late 1990s I could not afford a motorised automated mixer, so I routed my digital multitrack outputs through the MU100R module audio inputs, then created a custom mixer template inside Cubase 2.0 on the Atari STE. That gave me fully automated mixing and FX etc. The MU100R is just highly underrated and versatile, with some truly awesome sounds when used properly.

    Thanks for sharing. The contributions you make to sound designing for this specific genre of music you deserve to be inundated with new gear and sponsors. But i guess there are some youtubers that focus mainly on monetising with unboxing videos instead of real substance of producing music. I purchased an an1x after viewing your channel. You are the king at mastering the tools you have (less is very much more). If you want more channels i hear the behringer x32 digital interfaces are good.

    Interesting video JayB. That's an interesting ensemble of synths. Other then the AN1X/PLG, I was surprised that you don't have any other "legacy" synths in your arsenal. Not that it matters as your music is awesome!

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  3 роки тому +1

      Well, Quasimidi Sirius and Korg X5DR are both 90s devices, and the Sirius has quite its own legacy. Especially when it comes to "bad gear". ;)

    Thanks that was interesting, really useful to get ideas on what might work for my set up. I’m more of a hardware person so great to see some of your older synths in your studio. Interesting you’ve got a cme as a master keyboard- I’ve considered getting one, but they have a really bad wrap. I’m a fan of the Blofeld as well. BTW want to thank you for your generosity in making your patch’s available - the V-synth ones are awesome 👏 . Thanks for your great channel

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  3 роки тому

      Thanks! The CME per se isn't bad, the keyboard feels great to play, but the support and built quality is...underwhelming. Aside from the after touch being broken a few years after purchase (ribbon cable broke, kinda fixed it with cable bridges) and the top C key not working at all anymore the driver issue is most annoying because re-assigning the faders and knobs is pretty much impossible.

  • @Tambako

    • @JayBmusic

      I do! Mainly Spire, Sylenth, VPS Avenger and the Korg Legacy Digital Edition.

  • @petertorda5487
    @petertorda5487 3 роки тому

    Well, also old digital synths can show something, what they are capable of, for example I was quite surprised from Yamaha Motif-RACK classic, some of it's interesting sounds are even not in new models, or in Halion. Same with Roland Fantom XR, have quite interesting sounds, which you can't find in VSTs.

    Video is great, i've watched a good number of your videos, i bought my qy100 based on the great sounds you got out of it. the song is excellent and your hackintosh is cool, i am surprised that you didnt put firewire in it and just use USB instead. I am curious as to why.

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  3 роки тому

      I wanted to add FireWire but the mac compatible expansion cards are rather limited and not the cheapest. And I don't have any noticeable disadvantages from using USB.

    Nice setup :) I have some questions: What is the need to keep the Yamaha QY100 when you have the S90? are some QY100 sounds missing in the S90? Same question for the AN1x and the PLG card in the S90. thks!

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  3 роки тому +2

      The sounds are different, and the Qy100 is a bit more hands-on when it comes to quickly accessing sounds.

    • @JayBmusic
      @JayBmusic  3 роки тому +2

      As for the AN1x / PLG150-AN: the basi engine is the same, but AN1x is easier to program, has basically two Plg Engines and support stereo polyphonic unisono mode. But on the other hand the PLG board has Multisaw and triangle socillator which the AN1x hasn't.

      @@JayBmusic that makes sense :) thanks for the quick reply! That's the same feeling I have with my RS7000 and my MoXF6, some sounds are similar but the RS is easier to change settings thanks to a lot of knobs. And some sounds from the RS are not part of the Motif/MOXF sound list, that's kind of sad from Yamaha :(
