Absolutely fantastic! The AI^2-synthesis already in itself has some special deep character in it in my opinion and you really make it shine even more. I use the N5ex and even just the preset banks are a real goldmine of sounds.
Holy crap. I cannot believe what you can get out of these little boxes of wonder. Loved your Kandi8 track - sounds wonderful on my MU2000 (and even on the vulnerable MU10 with a little tweaking!)... I'm waiting to receive an NX5R and this will be the first thing I play on it. Unbelievably good stuff. I wonder if you could make an AKAI SG01K sound good - got one of these recently and it really is surprisingly low end given its lineage.
@@JayBmusic Ah yes! Bought the parts to build an Arduino to host adapter courtesy of your video on the subject. Have you looked into the YAMAHA MU10? It's an odd one that I think you could really dig into with your skills - these under appreciated (and thankfully therefore cheap!) boxes house what's effectively a DB50XG in them which provides solid XG playback, but also a QS300 mode which has some nice analog synthesis goodness in it. All in a dinky little box that can even run from 6 AA batteries. Thought I'd mention it anyhow!
It is a bit more than just General MIDI, but still nothing amazing compared to other synths released in 1997. It's vaguely similar to the 01/W, uses the same synth engine and such.
@@Naotaku yeah. I have one of these myself and... I do find it quite underwhelming in most cases. JayB here is absolutely working wonders with this thing
@@autumnbrushtail I didn't even know this thing existed tbh, I only remember Roland's Sound Canvas from that era. Never got to use one myself. It looks like a neat little box, I'm sure I'd love it back in 1998 :)
@@Naotaku SoundCanvas is cool. Never really been my bag honestly, but I do have an SD-80, which is kinda like an XV-5080 with less things in many places, but I need to make an editor to unlock its potential (Roland's editor kinda sucks imo)
@JayBmusic You previously had a video sharing a project with arduino for To host-USB midi which lets you access the rest of the tracks on some of these units. Thought it was cool so was wondering if you were able to implement that yet on this one or any of the others.
@kenzieprice6745 Well it works with basically all Korg, Yamaha and Roland devices with a To-Host connection so there's nothing more to implement. And I'm using it with this synth only because it's the only one I have that has 32 channels.
Hi. I don't know you and I don't know much about MIDI, but I wanted to tell you that the Yamaha MU50 is now starting to be emulated in MAME. Believe it or not, it's true. I'm hoping to have the Roland SC-55 and Yamaha MU100 fully emulated eventually! I'm going through my old Geocities collection finding rare midi files that are there and on my files discs I've saved over the past 28+ years!
Thanks for the heads-up! Looks very interesting. Unfortunately I can't try it due to the lack of the necessary ROM dumps. I have the system ROM, but not the WaveROMs.
I need the all rom dumps , just to be sure. The rest should be obvious. I tried stuff with it, and it seems doable. If you can, feel free to send them to me on contact at jaybmusic dot net. I really appreciate it
Well... Yeah. I mean it does support GS and XG up to a point and the bank selection theoretically happens the same way. However if you're mixing banks like I did here you use the NS5R internal bank selection.
Your song really makes me wanna buy the thing, haha, really great tune There is ns5r one available near me Did you by any chance connect it to a pc and did you use a sound editor? If yes how did you connect it?
Yes it's connected to the PC and yes I use the original sound editor. For connection any proper MIDI interface will do (unless you need access to all 32 MIDI channels).
Das liegt vor allem daran, dass es kein reiner GM Synth ist. Der ist komplett programmierbar wie ein Korg X5D. Und, naja, du hast halt auch GS und XG Sounds.
I love it, feels like it belongs in a 2000's racing game loading screan xD
this.
I'm crying because I sold Korg NS5R. You are the genius who unlocks the potential of these musical instruments. Fabulous!
😭😭 that was the most beautiful song i’ve heard for a long time ❤ (20+ years producing for afterglow, anjuna, you name it) amazing job, speechless..

Awesome! I have a Korg NX5R.
Nice
Nice tune. And you're MIDI magician.
Amazing
Amazing stuff Jay, as always. God bless.
Great stuff!
Sound so great JayB
Старина! Как всегда, очень круто! Такие невероятные чудеса творишь, я просто в приятном шоке!
i really enjoyed the automation, program changes and levels on the unit. helps tell the story
This sounds amazing! I'll definitely need to pick one of these up for my collection and use it in for future releases 😃👍
naiss! JayB still alive ❤❤
it's beautiful 😍
Great job! 👍🤝
November sadness seems to be already inside my heart...
Such a jam
this doesnt sound like sadness to me. more like being relaxed! Wonderful track and its amazing what you pull of this small box.

Nice track!! i owned myself this Rack - 'till it felt down...nice sounds !!
Really impressed by this track.

Remember that you need to use a To Host cable in order to play this. Otherwise you can't use all 32 channels.

Crazy good job squeezing so much juice out this.
Have you made any progress using the "to host" interfaces of these modules to tap into them more?
What kind of progress? The To Host interface is just two midi ports.

is there some kind of patch bank select you have to use to get special patch variations like on Yamaha XG devices?

It should be. Check out my video about the editors to learn more: ua-cam.com/video/DfqVB21QGjk/v-deo.html

The LCD is the original one but I had to replace the failing backlight panel with a DIY one.

I never dove into that and honestly don't plan to.
nice, i had ns5r but sold because output is very noisy! not professional standard
That is true, but in the mix it doesn't matter. And for everything else there's FFT noise reduction. ;)
