What’s your favorite compressor?
FX Engineering Mirage. It's such a good compressor for single coils. It doesn't do the dynacomp thing but it's a very amp like compression that makes the guitar feel like you turned the amp up an extra number. I can't go without it and everyone I've let try mine has bought one. Will McFarlane turned me on to these at a musicians conference session on guitar tone about 10 years ago.
Ross in my favorite compressor
There way to high now days
I have the MXR Dyna Comp been thinking about getting a Ross Mod on it
JHS pulp n peel! just upgraded to that from the boss compressor... now i actually use the compressor!
berhinger Compressor Sustainer CS400
Origin Effects Cali 76
Thinking of buying a Diamond Jr. This vid may have convinced me. Sweet sounds. Thankyou.
Great pedal! That’s the compressor I usually have on my board.
This is a great video, very informative. I’ve actually only recently started fiddling with a compressor pedal, and this is definitely going to help me dial it in.
Awesome, glad to hear it!
The larger Ego compressor by Wampler is an AWESOME studio style comp, and the only one I use. Great video!
Thanks! I've played the Wampler a little bit but not a lot. Lots of guys love them!
You rock. I like a limiter with no push.
Very nice. Song/tones reminded me of Son Volt
Awesome!
Tive um mxr e um Marshall, agora adquiri o seymour do vídeo e descobri que nunca tive um compressor de verdade. Pedal maravilhoso.
I usw my compressor as an overdrive/distortion, I have my amp set up at high gain and then I use the compressor with a high level qnd attack
Oh wow I just wanna know how you recorded/mixed that acoustic guitar on the song, sounds great, really all the tones sound so good, thanks!
Thanks! The acoustic was recorded using a Lawson 47 clone tube mic into Neotek pre/eq (EQ’ed on the way in). I think I used a Waves API 2500 compressor and a touch of reverb! It’s double tracked and panned hard left and right.
Just got the HX Stomp still learning how to use it
But I like the MXR Dyna Comp in front of a Muff clears it up and adds Boost
TFS Enjoyed!
$t@y $@f3 ... 😷
Nice! Enjoy the HX Stomp - such a great pedal
For fun, try putting your compressor last in the chain, after your reverb pedal. Playing with the sustain knob can give you almost never ending notes. Maybe add in an EQ between the two to dampen out the super high frequencies the reverb can create. Have fun!
Sounds like a cool idea!
Thank you Michael! I struggle with compression at times. I don't mess with them enough, but have a few. One thing that I saw was some compressors are referred to as 'studio style' compression. I believe my Jackson Audio pedal is that way. The difference being? The aggressiveness of the compression?

@@loopie007 Thanks! Good info. I skimmed thru, but will read it more carefully later. I've never used a lot of compression, because I played in a cover band in the 80s, so the compression was already there. When I do want or need it, I forget all that important stuff you referenced. :-)
Hi ! Just subscibed :)
I have a wrampler tumnus, what do you think about getting a strymon compadre in order to have a ‘compressor/boost’ like your greer lightspeed pedal you use at first stage gain . Thx!
Thanks for subbing!
Can I use the HX Stomp LA Studio Compressor in the end of the chain to shape the tone and also a compressor in the beggining of the chain to have more sustain or as a lead boost? Or 2 compressors like this is stupid? Thanks.
Absolutely! At times I’ve had 3 different compressors on my board for different reasons. (General Always in style, one for slide, one for boost/sustained chords). In the HX stomp a lot of folks like putting one at the end to smooth things out. This would be similar to using a compressor on a guitar amp in the studio! If it sounds good, it is good!
@@MichaelWWestbrook Thanks a lot!
Holy Thumb..lol...thats some crazy thumb flex
😂 yeah... major hitchhikers thumb over here. It practically makes a U-turn
i came here for this comment to make sure i wasnt trippin out
DryBell Unit 67
Killer! I haven’t played one but I’ve heard great things
Michael W. Westbrook Instant Mike Campbell tone. The compression is very subtle, the range control is the secret sauce.
