- It’s here - clear Coca-Cola! It’s ONLY in JAPAN not not in the USA ... but why? - and how does it taste? Is it like Crystal Pepsi? Maybe, maybe not. Let’s find out today. Clear Coca-Cola was released today, June 11th.
With a water-like appearance, "Coca-Cola Clear" コカ･コーラ クリア is a zero-calorie, lemon-flavored drink, according to the manufacturer.
It's available in 500ml and 280ml small PET bottles soon to be in vending machines around Japan. Currently, they're sold in select stores.

It was the US first, a soviet general in the cold war loved coka cola but it was banned, so he called up the us, and coca cola made a clear version in a plain glass bottle and put a red star lid on it so that they could sneak it into the soviet union

We had crystal Pepsi in the '80s. I think that if they brought it back now it would do good.
JUST ordered 2 bottles from japan to here in canada cant wait...one to taste one to add to my collection...its funny here in North America you can buy Pepsi throwback wich is made with real sugar like it used to be back in the 90's....but it costs more like alot more....wich is sad because we it tasted SOO MUCH BETTER with real sugar not corn syrup as they use in the every day pepsi or coke
The cost of using high fructose corn syrup is so low - a fraction of using real sugar - its why many countries now import it and use it even though sugar is one of their main exports! Just cheaper to buy America's processed corn syrup to make money. Cheap glucose. I support normal sugar cane and the farmers (my mother's family still grows sugar cane in India) and the price we pay for cola now is not worth the hospital bills we'll get later in life.
I'm no scientist and I'm going by my feelings on this, but I've never been a fan of HFSC and I don't think the body processes it the same way. I'll pay double for real sugar and would drink cola more if it were branded that way - but I don't think many other people would - would you?
If I want the "Old" Coca Cola, I just buy myself a Coke from Mexico in the glass bottle, which is pretty easy to find in the western US. It has a much more mellow flavor and is less acidic. For some reason I think they may have reduced the carbonation.
WOW! I didn't know that! I don't think it's easy to find in New York. Coke has different tastes all over the world but the taste in Japan has gotten worse because of the HFCS and cutting costs. I stopped being a regular soda drinker about 20 years ago when 12 packs of soda were cheaper than bottled water!
MACDRU421 Pop in a bottle is always better!! The coca cola in my home country is made with cane sugar! So it tastes so much better but it's not as popular in my home country as well(?)🤔

America did do it first, they created Clear Coca cola for the Soviets. I'm not sure which year but I think it was during cold war negotiations or something and one of the Soviets in power couldn't get enough of it so they asked America to send him some but in a subtle way.
In America we had just for limited time the clear Pepsi.

The soviet union came up with the idea of clear Coca-Cola because the soviet union banned Coca-Cola so one of the generals asked someone to give him that Coca-Cola so they make it clear so the soviet dictator will think its vodka and then japan stole the idea and sold it themselves 2:41
I read that a lot of companies and schools encourage drinking just water and discourages drinking sweetend drinks, to get around that and not offend your fellow workers sweet toothed people tend to buy clear sweet drinks and refill it to used water bottles, that's why a lot of new clear juice drinks are bottled that resemble bottle water drinks.
I recall drinking clear cola back in 93. Can't remember if it was Pepsi clear or coca cola clear but definitely used to drink it.

When a friend of my visited me she said it didn't have that much taste which surprised me. I didn't realize at the time how much my taste had adjusted to Japanese tastes. Hope that makes sense ;)
I noticed how much my tastebuds had become more sensitive when I came back from Japan. Everything back home here in The Netherlands tasted way more intense for the first two weeks after I got back until my tastebuds readjusted again. I drank more watered down coffee during that time which tasted strong none the less. After two weeks it started tasting to weak as my tastebuds readjusted ;)

My friend just left Japan the day before Coca Cola Clear was coming out. It was called Crystal Pepsi , it came back last year for a limited time and is gone again. Love your videos, please keep up the good work.

Interesting, this is served in Southern Turkey as well apparently. I don't think anybody in the U.S. even knows about it yet, at least not where I live.
A russian General once had clear coke because he loved coke so much he called Harry Truman for clear coke as to camofloug it from vodka.
My friend mixes mr.pibb,Coke,cherry coke,vanilla coke, cherry Vanilla Coke,sprite and mellowyello with unsweetened iced tea and lemonade and calls it the graveyard.
Actually, I've seen it in the US; however, there IS a reason why it flopped in the US - it's NOT what folks are used to. They pointed out that Sprite is a non-starter in Japan - but Coke Clear IS. Now I have to wonder if MelloYello is even available in Japan.

I hate to break it to you, but High Fructose Corn Syrup is, in fact, real sugar. I do, however, understand that what everyone means by "real sugar" is cane sugar.
That being said, I like the cane sugar colas better.

James Greenspan wrote something about how Coke "Once Made an Intentionally Terrible Clear Cola to Take Down Crystal Pepsi" (article name) back in the 90's in the United States. If his theory is true, then Coca Cola probably wouldn't want to try it out in the US.

Why clear? Because the brown color of the original coke is made of caramelised suger that produces 4-MEI and that is a toxit substance for us humans. And by the way; Japanese people are smart. That's why they become one of the eldest and healthiest people on our planet.
They had this in Australia in the early 1990s. It got taken off the market because it did not sell well.

I remember when me and my friends found a 50円 vending machine and they had that giant Coke can for 80円 and me and my friends raided that machine buying all the cans they had.
there was "crystal coke" available in the 90 but just in germany. It was coke without any kind of food colours. But in this time i just was born so i cant try it:(

It should be in vending machines :) but you can try supermarkets and Donki Hote stores. COnvenient stores will probably stock them too from this week.

I believe there was a similar one but it was only given to the Grand Marshall Zhugov of Russia. He drank fell in love with the drink but because Coke was seen as a symbol of Decadent Western Imperialism it would be a problem if he was seen drinking. But Eisenhower convinced Coke to get their chemist to create a Clear Coke disquised it was Vodka and he was given bottles of what looks like Vodka but it was Clear Coke. Strangely during the Crystal Pepsi Coke could have had the product in the public but no they did not till now but only in Japan.

Coca-Cola clear = Tab. Although Tab used sodium cyclamate and saccharin as sweeteners.. which gave it an unpleasant after taste. Only tried the European version as it was banned in the USA but not a pleasant drink , people only bought it for the novelty value. The coloring in coke is natural ( caramel) made from burnt sugar which aside from giving coke it's signiture color probably also gives it the slightly caramel flavour notes...
It is utter crap. How can anyone drink this? I know soft drinks arent healthy but they at least taste good. But this... It taste horrible..
If it was the original with both sodium cyclamate and saccharin together, then they helped cancel the aftertastes out and tasted the best of all artificial sweeteners, enough that the sugar industry lobbied and successfully banned sodium cyclamate by the end of the 1960s. It is still banned in the US to this day even though it was uncovered that business reasons were the culprit, and the original studies used to justify banning it have long since been disproven. Most other countries still allow it......the original Sugar Twin got its name from using both sweeteners together.
I thankful to God because we have Nimbu pani, lassi, many fruit juices so we not buy thus kind of harmful product like coca, Pepsi etc.

Mixing a artificial sugared drink with a regular sweetened sugar drink is simply no go.
