- Clips of Tulsa, Oklahoma, unearthing and unveiling of a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere buried in 1957, and the time capsule inside.
From KOTV News, June 15, 2007. Sorry the unveiling itself isn't included here in these clips.
The car would have been in much better shape if they had just left it out on the street.
As a brazilian, I´m astonished! That´s the cult of a generation. The 50´s are great in many ways but, this car is a masterpiece, and deserves to be restored. I´m thinking, maybe a museum should be built to celebrate this moment. Congrats americans (a rare thing) and oklahomans for this brilliant idea!
46 star flag...what's this guy smoking, it was 48 in 1957!!
You're right, Boyd Coddington doesn't know shit about restoring cars. He truly hasn't got a clue.
It's uncertain what caused this because the time capsule should have been air and water tight but they think it was damaged by careless construction in the area in the 1970's.
In any case, that car is definitely not beyond the point of being restorable. It's got surface rust, but it can be cleaned up. It's all there. A lot of work, but it's not gone by any means. Nice car.
Very cool. I wish they did it nowadays too so like 2050 someone could unveil it.
History! Life from the 1950's able to be smelled and seen in 2007! Amazing! Air in 3 of the 4 tires! Original air of 1957, no leaks, ladies and gentlemen!
This car is a hero, considering the conditions it's been through!
American iron continents over wheels. A shame they're no longer made... lol bet a current car, fullfiled of electronics wouldn't go through it so entire.
Thanks for posting this clip. When it comes to building cars, Americans were masters.
Good that at least the capsule survived :)
What a shame that water got in. I think they should at least clean it up as best they can, then display it. Its too bad Boyd Coddington had a negative attitude right from the start. He would have ruined the car anyway, if it had been salvageable, by putting in a huge aftermarket engine and 22" rims and pimping it out.
I was at that event. Rode down from Chatham Ontario to watch it happen. A person could poke a whole through the body. . . . Had lots of fun!!
Sorry about that, it was about 20 minutes into the broadcast when I realized "I should be recording this." It was a lot of pomp and circumstance and Boyd Coddington getting free sdvertising for his stupid TV show. They also had commercial breaks about every 5 minutes. The actual unveiling itself is on UA-cam, I've seen it.
And thats how they take care of their past,.....their History.......what a Sad sad event.
I agree with Jerod in France. Too many commercials!! Sickening enough how this special moment was "slopped together" by the committee, but to SELL AD TIME .... shameless!!!
Well in case you didn't know Boyd Coddington the commentator in this video has just passed away.
How much of this car would be left after 15000 years.
Oklahoma is the 46th state.
yes, but in 1957 there were 48 states..hence 48 stars. Hawaii and Alaska weren't added until 1959
I dont think it is as bad as it looks. Mud and water damage, but if you look closely it looks like surface rust. If a car is underwater with low air it will rust but not to the point of cancer like it will in the air. We will find out friday when they tell the owner.
'They've just wrapped up the unveiling'.
Only the bloody yanks would pull a dumb stunt like that.
And fail so miserably.
What a waste of a perfectly good car.
I was waiting for a lady to jump out of a cake.
I guess that’s a different Miss Belvedere.
Yes, I ageee. it made a bad situation worst by making it look Yes, I agree. It made a bad situation worst by making it look contrived. That pulling out the American flag really show how nervous they were "Hurry...unveil the flag". Fact is, the Flag sort of save the day. Still, this is an example of a mega fiasco. It was a marvalous idea but the city folk blew it.
my grandpa had a grand fury which is basicly the same thing but man thats asome buried for 50 years pnly if the hole was water proof owell they should do this more often
Tulsa could have had such a shinning moment, but they blew it! 1957....you could not have made it water tight? I bought tickets to the event and did not even go. Tulsa, beautiful city, but not happy with you.....OKC rules!!!!
My car has been underwater for years
I love how he said "46" star flag---48 not, 46. Sheesh
Shoulda put in a sump pump too! Lol!
poor car. why did they do this?
benzlover55 fuck this is 10 years old
@DrBuzz0 It's so typical of the 1970's! The construction men were probably all stoned!! lol!
R.I.P Boyd
@foxfoobar no shit a mercedes benz is made from fiber glass
its a shame the car wasnt in as good of shape as the other stuff
Just a crying shame ...a crying shame I tell you!
3:30 sec.? What is that they wanted to find? That guy just about blew it when he said the 46 star flag, it's 48!
Не хватило ума в такую же цистерну машину заварить, осталась бы как новая.
What's that have to do with anything?...
هل انتم هنا عشان الانجليزي؟

Perhaps they don't teach history in Oklahoma like the rest of the US--"THE 46 STAR FLAG!"
There wuz 48 states in '57 cousin
cris damericain vous les avez les idee
Not all Americans are like that...
Does every American have to shout all the time?
They have to burrie a cadillac escalade this year an got it out in 50 years!!
Maybe Hoffa's in the trunk. hehe J/k
This really is a perfect example of american engineering, dont expect it to last more than a few years
