One time I was shopping at a small mom & pop health food store and I noticed when I got to my car that they had way undercharged me. I went back into the store and told them there was a problem and they were so grateful. So worth it to do the right thing.

Protecting your capital is much more important than making money. Basically because if you lose your capital, making money is much harder. ''Missing the train'' vs. ''losing your money''. There are a lot of trains, but if your money is gone, it's over.

Wall Street pitched so-called quality stocks with high profitability and low debt, as a kind of insurance against whatever the economy might throw at you. Quality stocks have underperformed the S&P500 this year, My $200k portfolio is down by approximately 20 %, any recommendations to scale up my returns on investment

With the US dollar losing value to inflation and other currencies gaining traction, uncertainty looms. Yet, many still trust in the Dollar's perceived safety. Worried about my $420,000 retirement savings losing value, I seek alternative security for my money.

I completely agree; I am 60 years old, recently retired, and have approximately $1,250,000 in external retirement funds. I am debt free and have very little money in retirement funds compared to the total value of my portfolio over the past three years. To be honest, having a portfolio-advisor for investing is genius!

I started a service business as a self-employed person. I had two years experience with a job at a company. Those people knew me, but to get more clients, several times I did small jobs for free, understanding that I had no college degree or certification at all, was female and a single mother, and working out of my home 40 years ago, all strikes against me. Very quickly I was overwhelmed with work.

I used to never use self checkout until I realized how much money the stores were stealing from me!! Now, I always do self checkout and watch like a hawk as the prices ring up. If there is an error, I stop immediately and get the employee watching the area to make the correction. There are still so many great differences between the prices on shelves and what rings up but thankfully, I am now not paying that difference out of MY pocket!

I had 2 donuts at Walmart ring up for 16.98. The price was $1.40. I had already paid when I realized it. I went to customer service. They wouldn't refund my card. They would only give me a gift card. I don't believe it was an accident. They tried to steal my money and then refuse to refund after I caught them. I bought toilet paper and canned food to get rid of the card. I rarely go to Walmart now.
Ingles also has things ring up wrong but you get the item free when it does that which is a better policy. Still, how many people overpaid vs me getting the item free? Funny how items never ring up lower than what the price is supposed to be. Always watch each item ring up.

We always use self-checkout. I agree w/ Clark...it's easier to keep track of prices...but mostly we prefer it because I do a LOT better job bagging our groceries than someone not trained in how to bag groceries & isn't paying for them. Who cares more about our groceries than we who paid for them ?!
My dad had a grocery store while I was growing up. He taught me so much.
When we've had our groceries bagged for us, they're in a hurry....they put glass jars next to each other. It doesn't make them cringe when they lift the bag & hear glass hitting glass! That should be their clue ! You don't put glass next to glass!! You position glass jars so that there is something between them. I want to arrive home w/out cracked glass ! When I bag our groceries, cold is w/ cold to help it keep cold. I don’t want a bag of cans...it's too heavy!
Bagging groceries requires some know how & thanks to my grocer dad , this old lady knows how!! 😊 And I can bag them quickly.

Some stores won't take cash for self checkout, and those terminals are always failing and you have to wait for an employee to bail you out. Might as well use cash 💸 because it inherently reduces your spending, and have the employee do the checkout work for how expensive everything is.
But either way, you. MUST be aware of the numbers when shopping, because what you spend is a reflection of your rate of pay. If you're being overcharged or just needlessly paying high prices, you're devaluing your labor. "Just pay me anything, that's fine. I'm only here at work to tread water."

Funny you mention education benefits. I mentored kids fresh out of school in my career. One of the conversations beyond the basic skills and industry particulars was how to utilize all the benefits that are available to you. Thinks like ESPP purchasing, 401K matching and college reimbursement. I would jokingly say, "You need to allow yourself to be poor for a couple more years to build up the habits that will help you in the long haul". Most kids are pretty overwhelmed in the first year of their career - fine - get settled and make a plan. The critical thing is you have to take the brass ring - no company will throw it at you.

Self checkout is for buying 15-20 items, paying and leaving. It is not to analyze each scan. There is little time. When 6 registers are full, plus there’s a line- please go to a full service register or get a manager. As someone who has run a self checkout for 2 years- it is for a paying for several items and leaving. There is no time to sit and figure out each scan.

My company, Armco Steel at the time, also offered company assisted education. I had to get a C or better in my undergraduate and a B or better in my graduate programs. the only down side was that the re-imbursement was taxable. It took me 13 years to complete my BS and MS degrees. I gave Armco 13 more years of work as pay back and then stayed until I got my 30 year pension. I eventually retired from AK Steel wit 41 and 1/2 years of service. I would not be where I am today were it not for the tuition assistance from Armco.

By appropriately sizing your positions and capitalizing on your advantage repeatedly, you can progressively work towards achieving your financial goals. • @teresaharris-travelbybooks5564
    @teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 3 місяці тому +1

Clark, frequently there are multiple prices; listed on the shelf; for the same item, depending on whether you use the store's discount card, or have an app that provides coupons for an additional discount. Often people fixate on the lowest price when they haven't done what they need to do, in order to get the additional discount. Sometimes, they pick up an item that is in the wrong spot on the shelf, and isn't the item that's on sale. There are a number of things that have to be done; in inventory, stocking, etc. for the correct price to appear at checkout. For you to blame a cashier for that, indicates your lack of knowledge of the retail supply chain, plus it's unfair and entitled. Cashiers don't know the price of everything in the store. They only know what the scanner shows them. I work part time, as a grocery store cashier. I received exactly twenty minutes of training time, when I first took the job and had to figure out everything else on my own. Being a cashier is extremely hard, physical work, so you might want to cut us some slack.

Self Checkout? Perhaps in some cases while not in others.
We generally use self checkout everywhere EXCEPT at *Costco* and *BJ’s* Warehouse. They use the same inferior brand terminal hardware for self checkout. The receipt printers, as often as not, print illegible receipts. If you use your receipts as records, or for returns, this matters. If you go to the attended checkout, they use different, reliable printers. Thankfully the lines at never busy BJs are non-existent so it is just as fast.
As to pricing errors - we reward stores that make it easy to fix. For particularly good sales, we take photos of the price tag with the product. Our regional grocery, Meijer makes price corrections easy - the store delegates the ability to the attendants at the self checkout.
The other way to assure correct pricing - use the “Scan & Go” apps available at many stores (except Costco!?!) to see the price when you scan the product and out it in your cart. Sams has best, smoothest operating scan & go app out there. Everyone should simply copy it.

The U.S. has a culture where we pitch employees and management against each other. Management claims employees are stealing from the company while employees claim management is denying opportunity, stealing pay, bonus, other features. This attitude is self destructive since it causes everyone to look over their shoulder all the time instead of doing any work. Other countries, companies have developed a more trusting attitude where employees, management are encouraged to look out for everyone. In those places, the companies have discovered that they get more work done with less input. This results in better satisfaction for everyone.
