Just recently a friend went into the hospital with what turned out to be a very mild case of covid. The hospital tried to force him to sign a document admitting him to a nursing home and giving them his social security and all possessions. The doctor cancelled his drivers license and insurance so he had to call and quit his part time job. He refused to sign and went home. The next morning he went to his own doctor, who reversed it all and said he was as healthy as he had ever seen him but just got sick. He got everything restored and called and got his job back. He will never go back to that hospital again no matter how sick he gets.

Thank you Clark for getting this information out to us. I cared for my Elderly mother for 7 years before mom passed away. It is unbelievable what I went through as a Caregiver. This very thing happened to me. All the papers that I had to fill out to admit my mom in the nursing home was similar to the amount of paperwork of a mortgage. Did I read every page, no. About two weeks later I read it. I was so distraught. I had to contact an attorney. He said I’d have to court and he might be able to get me out of it. I almost had a nervous breakdown. I begged the administration to rip up the paper that I would “voluntarily pay for the bill”. Thank God, she tore up the paper and promised me there was no copy on file. Close call. Not all nursing homes and assisted living communities are trying to trick people. I work at an assisted living community and make it very clear how the financial responsibility form works. I also talk to the senior and families about the costs involved and ensure as best I can that they can afford the care our community provides. I am very proud to help people and never want families to feel tricked.
BS...every American knows that there is a nationwide SHORTAGE of CNA's, LPNs, RN's and food service workers in EVERY SINGLE nursing facility in the United States of America. You will drain the private savings of your helpless residents and then you will dump them in a double or triple occupied filthy room after you assume control of their government social security proceeds and then you will bill the direct family members and any visitors for bogus cost of living charges. WE ALL KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON at nursing facilities.
I was separated from my husband for 3 years. He became very ill & went to a hospital, nursing home, then another hospital where very aggressive social service people started calling me asking for his Financials, my Financials, etc. I told them numerous times we were separated & I had no earthly idea what he did with his money. Finally I threatened legal action to get them off my back. But it was a real eye opening experience.
I worked in the courts for twenty years on elderly abuse, neglect and exploitation before I retired at 68. Unless a person LEGALLY represents someone, they should not be signing anything as it is NOT their responsibility. Even if you are a spouse of a deceased person, in some states you are not responsible for any of their debts. Do not sign anything. These is a revolving door problem that leaves hospitals in a pinch. They get a little old person with a broken hip. Medicare gives the hospital 3 days to get that person up and out. So it is either send them home with a physical therapist visiting once or twice a week or off to the rehab facility. If they go home it is most likely there is no one there to help and they end up falling agin and back in the hospital. That is the most likely situation and most people cannot afford to pay for extra assistance at home. If they pick a rehab hospital they will get better care and rehab daily. But most little old people ache and do not want to get out of bed. A rehab hospital can put up with that for 2 days at most and then Medicare stops and the person is sent home. Again, they end up falling because no one is home to watch over them and back they go into the hospital. And health insurance is too expensive for most people in the U.S. So the bottom line is that if no one can assure payment and the person is not responding to Medicare's requirements, the person is sent home and it ends up starting all over with another broken bone, into the hospital and then you are back to "what next?"" But NO ONE should ever sign any documents for another person unless they are legally, with documentation, responsible for that person. And if anyone attempts to force you into doing that, you need to contact the State Department of Health in the state in which you live.
It seems to be a model of USA healthcare/hospital systems that patients are rushed out of the hospital and into "rehabilitation" center as soon as possible after a procedural or incident. Apparently the "rehabilitation" (which is usually a side business of a nursing home) can put you into self - pay early if they say "you are not making progress" earlier than the time that Medicare or other insurance benefits would run out or go into co- pay. I saw elsewhere that the "rehabilitation" has an interest into getting you off of Medicare and into self- pay as early as possible because the self- pay daily charge rate is much higher than Medicare reimbursement/allowance. Also there seems to me to be enormous pressure to send a patient home as soon as the hospital can get away with it regardless of whether the patient is ready.
Have I mentioned you're amazing lately? I might have forgotten. Love y'all and everything you do. The way you are able to get a point across with such a generally neutral and just informative perspective is refreshing. You always seem to try to provide proper reasoning very professionally and respectfully. Anyone could learn so much more than the topic at hand. Simple life information and resources, just insane levels of knowledge/guidance I don't think most people truly realize. You have been one of my favorite shows and human being throughout many many years and life itself. Thank you for being you! 😊🌎❤️🕺🏻🐶
We love self-checkout. We organize our groceries. Frozen first, refrigerated., veggies, boxed, cans, chemical last. Makes loading the car and when we get home.
I'm w/ you on this. We prefer self check out. We organize like you do. My dad owned/ operated a grocery store while I was growing up. He taught me so much. I know the best way to bag groceries. When someone bags our groceries, they invariably put glass jars next to one another. When they pick up the bag, they don't flinch when the glass clicks. When I bag our groceries, I make sure no glass touches other glass. I want to get home w/ out cracked glass!
CLARK: I thank you for your information, and warning, about Nursing Homes, etc. I’m a senior citizen and hope I NEVER have to go into a nursing home, BUT, I understand that if I can’t take care of even my basic needs, off I have to go. (Kicking the whole way perhaps Lol).
We have switched almost entirely to curbside pickup & rarely go into the store anymore. Can't say I miss it much. There is a minimum order amount (walmart-$35) to use it for free.
A Sam's Club Scan-N-Go heads up: I'm a huge fan of it, and wonder why more folks don't use the option. The other day, I was happily gathering from my list, scanning as I went. I was nearly finished, when my phone prompted, "SHUTTING DOWN," and went blank!!! Please make sure your phone is adequately powered up, before you begin the process of Scan-N-Go!! 😮 😢
Only a Financial or Medical POA should sign anything, and then be sure to sign as "Patient Name" by "your name" as FPOA. This way its clear you are not taking financial responsibility! I've always explained this to my clients, future resident families, etc.
Hello Clark...huge fan here...I do want to say...I'm a business office manager at a skilled nursing facility...and we do have folks sign...as someone has to sign that the care can be given, etc...unless the resident can sign...someone else has to sign...it does not mean (at least in our case) that we are going to charge the person signing...for example...son/daughter, poa...thank you for your show!
I love self-checkouts because I feel I’m in control. Also lesser hands touching my items, I put perishables or chemicals, like detergent, separately, no interaction with not-very-friendly cashier. 😊😊😊
I heard a report on NPR radio regarding the shortage of staffing across Assisted Living and LTC facilities. The exact number I don't recall, but it was staggering, especially as projected forward to the time I personally will be needing such service. (I've conscientiously kept up my LTC insurance premiums, but it won't be of much use if the facilities are understaffed!) They reported on a new Government program to issue visas specifically for immigrants who will train to fill these jobs. One who was interviewed spoke of her desire to do this initially, then move into nursing school and become a Registered Nurse. I support this plan, especially because of the tendency of other societies to value and care for their elderly more than we seem to here in the USA. Thoughts?
I worked in an assisted living for 10 years. It changed ownership twice. All assisted living facilities refuse to hire enough staff. There were 29 residents and only 4 staff members to care for them. At night there are 2. This is unacceptable but Assisted Living companies couldn’t care less. As long as they get their $10,000 a month per resident. They will do with less staff.
Clark not all assisted living places are like that. We live in a senior facility with an assisted living and skilled nursing facility affiliated with us.
Sam’s Club Scan & Go is 99% awesome! The 1% issue is the person checking my cart at the exit door. Some of them feel they need to scan every item in the cart.
I do like self checkout because I can put what i want in each bag. I tried Walmart+ Scan&Go for the first time last week. Worked OK, but I'm not sure it was s time saver over regular self checkout. Definitely faster than standing in line for 10 minutes for s cashier to check me out, though.
I've heard some judges are reluctant to prosecute a "theft" at self checkout because a customer may have made a legitimate mistake. They consider it a retailers problem. I hate self checkouts like Costco where you have to place each item on a scale to be weighed.
I was in first a regular hospital for 10 weeks then a rehabilitation/assisted living home for nearly another year. I was only 26 years old and it all stemmed from a 3 week induced coma. I had to relearn everything
Something that I have noticed is that some- maybe most nursing homes have changed ownership/ been bought and sold several times over, say,a 50 year period since it was built Did Marriott build nursing homes/ "Senior Living" buildings intending to operate them or did they fully intend to sell/spin them off soon after establishing them? Was "Brookdale" the name of Marriott nursing homes? Are "Emeritus" or "Vitality Living" affiliates of Marriott ? I wonder. Also wonder if Sunrise was part of Marriott
If I ever have to go into assisted living it wouldn’t be in America. It would be Mexico, Peru, Thailand. Much better living conditions and amenities like resorts for more than 50-60% cheaper than the U.S
Uniqlo's RFID checkout is pretty great. It's literally dump & pay. It serves these big retailers right to now be dismantling their poorly designed self-checkout systems after pouring so much money into them.
I like the Scan and Go app at Walmart, even though it really should be called scan and wait, since i usually have to wait for the self check out crowd to get done with their several carts of product. The negative with the WalMart Scan and Go is that it costs about $100.00 per year! WHY! this app should be free. I've also used the Sams app but after doing all the work, the lady at the exit (Hiram, GA) was supposed to just scan the QR on my phone instead she scanned every item in my cart. I have not been back there since.
I wish all merchants would train their cashiers like Aldis. The main reason I shop there is I can be in and out in under 20 mins with a cart load. The fastest checkers I have ever seen. On the other hand I avoid the local Kroger's as they are SOOOO slow, and their self checkout machines have weird tech that confuses.
Ours is so fast and not caring for the food, that we have had to deal with them denting cans and crushing yogurt containers that leak. I have to now check my items before I leave the store to see if they destroyed anything.
I do not like it when cashiers drag my items over the glass plate to scan the bar codes. I do not want my items touching a surface or hands that were in contact with raw meat. According to the CDC, you can easily contract an UTI from raw chicken. You do not have to ingest the meat; simply coming in contact with the juice of meat will make one sick. (Ecoli is in the feces of chickens and the FDA allows one out of five chickens with ecoli on store shelves.) I prefer and seek out stores with self check-out for this reason.
Do you know how many hands have touched those items that you do not want touched again . Think about it . We are not living in a sterile society, far from it. Wash your buggy handles. Wash your hands as soon as you walk into your house. Wash off your cans before you open them . Exposure to germs keeps your immune system on alert. Societies who lived in sterile environments were almost destroyed when others people entered their territory. Their immune system had never been exposed to foreign bacteria or viruses. Do not be afraid of dirt and germs . Just be sensible. Living in a plastic bubble does not keep one healthy.
"4/11" #BonusTerm - "Self Checkout" 1. Doing your own grocery checkout.2. A period of introspection, reflecting on this 'n that, possibly while waiting in the "self-checkout" line. Lol. :)
😂 Got it. That was cute. The words used or spoken lately, also in the news reporting, make you wonder. It puzzles the elderly and the young folks don't give it a thought.
The answer is if you think you have Covid you just don’t tell people and actually you don’t even tell anyone you’re sick in the first place because people freak out they go crazy. This is the reality in society now way too many soft people out there..
There are multiple forms. You should be able to sign consent for medical treatment forms without signing financial responsibility forms. Read and ask questions. 💚
I was a banking and finance regulation lawyer for 35 years and recently retired. As to the person with the tickets, it makes a difference whether they used a credit or debit card as the reporting time periods and protections are very different. It’s not as simple as you make it sound. As to the people who came down with Covid on the cruise, I cruise all the time, have Cadillac medical plan but would never get on a cruise without travel insurance (and read the particular policy you purchase). You are going into international waters and foreign countries. While I don’t disagree with the comments about treatment in the ship, it should have been followed up with “make sure you have travel insurance. My son is a drummer and bus band is going on another European tour in May. He has health insurance but since he will be in Europe, we obtained travel insurance with medical coverage overseas. Don’t just assume you are covered in foreign lands.
put a kiosk like the self checkouts except its a check-in, like Costco. I show my picture ID (drivers license) and it takes my picture as well. I swipe my debit card for a $100 charge ane take the receipt into the store. No entry otherwise. How hard is that?
Self Checkout, I only use the self checkout if I only have a few items and the regular checkouts are full. I’m a customer of an employee. I’m not getting paid to checkout my items, I’m not getting a discount. I don’t use them. If they don’t have any checkouts open I leave.
Sams and Walmart are the same company (right?)......we regularly shop walmart grocery mart (self-checkout)....so I'm assuming Sam's uses the same as the walmart? Works fine!
Clark, my father was recently in a assisted living facility for respite care and they automatically have family sign. They never asked my father to sign. I signed as Power of Attorney so does this still make me liable?
Virus caused illness only has Tamiflu as a prescription - and I would be shocked if they had access to it on a cruise ship. You can only treat the symptoms. (I introduced Tamiflu as a pharmaceutical sales rep 20+ years ago.)
I don't do self check out Don't want to and won't do it!!! If I can't get a human check I report that I am leaving the store and there are some items that needs to be put back on shelf and I leave I don't need to spend my money with them
Covid is outdated you don’t have to isolate yourself for 10 days anymore. not even five days it’s more like 24 hours if you don’t have a headache or a temperature you can still go out in the community and still do your thing. People are way too high strung and extreme anxieties over COVID-19. Come on people live your life get over it…
The store owners were naive and found out that the honesty of the general public and the honor system isn't as prevalent as they thought and doesn't work in everyday life. Detecting weakness and opportunity, human greed and entitlement are stronger, more basic urges in human nature. This unpleasant fact has been learned from this social experiment.
I would never plan on going to a nursing home. Why would anyone put a burden on their family members. With future full self driving cars coming. You can still be independent. The car will take you to see the doctor. The car will take you to any restaurant you want. The car can take you to the car wash to get your self washed. 😂

Our local WM has started to close some self-checkout kiosks.
Ours too
Have I mentioned you're amazing lately?
As a hermit I love them too.
That’s fine but I get clearance deals or see promotions that I did not know about too often. Saves me money every trip.
A Sam's Club Scan-N-Go heads up:
I'm a huge fan of it, and wonder why more folks don't use the option.
The other day, I was happily gathering from my list, scanning as I went.
I was nearly finished, when my phone prompted, "SHUTTING DOWN," and went blank!!!
Please make sure your phone is adequately powered up, before you begin the process of Scan-N-Go!! 😮 😢
😲 Oh no! This is a very important tip! 🙌
Yup, consumer finance got them to give my money back after 4 months of getting the run around
Thanks for sharing a real-life experience that it works! 💚
Re: self check out…I really like it…moves faster & always someone to call on if need help…
Thanks for sharing your expert industry knowledge! 💚
We believe that like rattlesnakes taste like chicken!
I love self checkout. Especially at Walmart, Kroger and Costco. Walmart can’t hire enough workers to run the cash register.
I used to like self checkout at Costco, but you can’t buy their muffins in self checkouts. Just not smart on their part.
I love self-checkouts because I feel I’m in control. Also lesser hands touching my items, I put perishables or chemicals, like detergent, separately, no interaction with not-very-friendly cashier. 😊😊😊
I love sams scan and go! I use it every time. I usually only get a few things when I go to sams so it’s nice to not have to wait in a check out line!
I heard a report on NPR radio regarding the shortage of staffing across Assisted Living and LTC facilities. The exact number I don't recall, but it was staggering, especially as projected forward to the time I personally will be needing such service. (I've conscientiously kept up my LTC insurance premiums, but it won't be of much use if the facilities are understaffed!)
They reported on a new Government program to issue visas specifically for immigrants who will train to fill these jobs.
LTC insurance probably pays for in home care. Many do. There's also HSA's that carry over year to year & covers home care.
I do that. Buy less because of self check out. So true, only what I can carry.
No cruise!!😂😂😂 Thank you Christa, you took the words right out of my mouth!
Clark not all assisted living places are like that. We live in a senior facility with an assisted living and skilled nursing facility affiliated with us.
Good for you but unfortunately, you are the exception NOT the rule!
Sam’s Club Scan & Go is 99% awesome! The 1% issue is the person checking my cart at the exit door. Some of them feel they need to scan every item in the cart.
Thank you Team Clark.
I do like self checkout because I can put what i want in each bag. I tried Walmart+ Scan&Go for the first time last week. Worked OK, but I'm not sure it was s time saver over regular self checkout. Definitely faster than standing in line for 10 minutes for s cashier to check me out, though.
I switched from Progressive auto insurance to Amica and saved about $80.
Welcome back Clark use to watch you Sundays on T.V.
I've heard some judges are reluctant to prosecute a "theft" at self checkout because a customer may have made a legitimate mistake. They consider it a retailers problem.
I hate self checkouts like Costco where you have to place each item on a scale to be weighed.
“Self check-out” would solve the assisted living dilemma.
I was in first a regular hospital for 10 weeks then a rehabilitation/assisted living home for nearly another year. I was only 26 years old and it all stemmed from a 3 week induced coma. I had to relearn everything
I'll leave the cart and walk out before I use self checkout.
At least the self checkout machine says “thank you” instead of just throwing a receipt and paying “there you go” or “have a good one”
NEVER lease .... the upfront costs are outrages !!!!!
Honda Prologue is a shared platform with Chevrolet Blazer, and Cadillac Lyrique.
Looks like it wil be way over priced from what I'm seeing. 🥺
This was the first of your youtube videos that I have seen. It was very informative and interesting, thank you.
Thanks Clark & Team!!
Thank you for doing such great research!
Something that I have noticed is that some- maybe most nursing homes have changed ownership/ been bought and sold several times over, say,a 50 year period since it was built
Did Marriott build nursing homes/ "Senior Living" buildings intending to operate them or did they fully intend to sell/spin them off soon after establishing them? Was "Brookdale" the name of Marriott nursing homes? Are "Emeritus" or "Vitality Living" affiliates of Marriott ? I wonder. Also wonder if Sunrise was part of Marriott
Thank you for all the valuable info in this video.😊😊😊
If I ever have to go into assisted living it wouldn’t be in America. It would be Mexico, Peru, Thailand. Much better living conditions and amenities like resorts for more than 50-60% cheaper than the U.S
Thank you, very important information!
I’m with Christa re. Cruises. What could go wrong? 😂
Why did you choose the Y over the 3, Tesla?
Lol. :)
😂 #bonusterm
😂 Got it. That was cute. The words used or spoken lately, also in the news reporting, make you wonder. It puzzles the elderly and the young folks don't give it a thought.
I Live in Louisiana and they must evacuate earlier since not enough charging stations available. I will NEVER have electric car!!!
The answer is if you think you have Covid you just don’t tell people and actually you don’t even tell anyone you’re sick in the first place because people freak out they go crazy. This is the reality in society now way too many soft people out there..
You don't have to tell anyone, but you should stay away from people to protect others. 💚
❤
But if you don’t sign those financial forms, will the patient get the help that they really need??
They will not admit without signing forms
@@avisatkins5438 perhaps can sign for the patient...not yourself.
Good to know
What recourse do those that have already been duped into signing those nursing home forms?
Sams and Walmart are the same company (right?)......we regularly shop walmart grocery mart (self-checkout)....so I'm assuming Sam's uses the same as the walmart? Works fine!
Clark, my father was recently in a assisted living facility for respite care and they automatically have family sign. They never asked my father to sign. I signed as Power of Attorney so does this still make me liable?
Depends on what you signed. Read the terms to see if you're liable. 💚
Virus caused illness only has Tamiflu as a prescription - and I would be shocked if they had access to it on a cruise ship. You can only treat the symptoms. (I introduced Tamiflu as a pharmaceutical sales rep 20+ years ago.)
Self checkout is so simple and quicker than standing in line for an hour! If they "Walmart" remove them i will stop going again.
How would the bank know the tickets were used?
What about Disney cruises? Are they United States based cruises? Would medical ship insurance be needed?
Meanwhile, Publix is adding self-checkout.
I DO NOT use self check out ever!!!!
Change your bank, Wendy!
We actually wound up living in 2 different states.
So the gal in IL who had the NY theater tickets on her card. The thieves still have her # ? Or did she get a new card? Didn't finish the story there.
Voluntary or involuntary?
Thanks 😁
I don't do self check out Don't want to and won't do it!!! If I can't get a human check I report that I am leaving the store and there are some items that needs to be put back on shelf and I leave I don't need to spend my money with them
We use highly-rated Amica for home and auto.
Highly rated and very expensive.💯
Covid is outdated you don’t have to isolate yourself for 10 days anymore. not even five days it’s more like 24 hours if you don’t have a headache or a temperature you can still go out in the community and still do your thing. People are way too high strung and extreme anxieties over COVID-19. Come on people live your life get over it…
I was at Costco. They are selling the same exact shirt you are wearing. It's called Vintage Brand 😂
I have a bunch of those shirts, too. Love them!!!
COMPLETELY SHADY
I agree that Sam's has an outstanding scan and go checkout!
Unfortunately, the COST of technology will win over the expense of employing humans. Eventually there could be no jobs.
Jobs are always needed to program, monitor, backup, and repair technology. 💚
I would never plan on going to a nursing home.
Why would anyone put a burden on their family members.
With future full self driving cars coming. You can still be independent.
The car will take you to see the doctor. The car will take you to any restaurant you want.
The car can take you to the car wash to get your self washed. 😂
😆 maybe in 4 to 5 years at best. Elon was way to hopeful on this one
@@thinkabout602
I got 30 years. Elon can't lie for that long. 😁
Before you know it, AI is gonna want our face and handprint and fingerprints to check out. I don’t like that reality. It really stinks.
home health care company tried to con me into giving them our son's personal info and phone....i refused. He had nothing to do with the care being given.
Who do they contact if problems?
What do they do with a person is living in a nursing home and they run out of money?
They apply for medicaid
Never ever give your correct number
Thank you . Great info 😊
