WWE has been saying for years that they want their talent to take initiative and grab the bull by the horns. Well Matt riddle did that. Better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission, because I can almost guarantee you the office would have told him "No, you can't publicly challenge those two guys".

Frank Mir was tremendously talented at BJJ and caught an inexperienced Brock in a leg lock he couldnt get out of. Cain was a cardio machine with elite level wrestling. I think Overreem beat Lesnar and did so because hes a world champion striker and tbh Lesnar looked like he had a suspect chin. As someone who has watched the UFC from the very beginning and seen almost every event the best thing i can say about Matt Riddles MMA skills is he has nice hair .

I think hes a once in a generation beast who could become world champion at anything he did including marbles or tiddlywinks. There is an old boxing maxim though that says you cant teach a chin. I think this was also one of the reasons Kurt Angle never went into MMA . He either didnt like being punched or couldnt take a punch which obviously would be a requirement.

Brock is 2X the size of riddle, riddle is a big jacked dude but lesnar has twice the size, thickness, and muscle mass as riddle. Lesnar is a FREAK human being and should not be messed with.
Those are people who have never been in a fight. Anyone that knows anything about fighting, MMA, etc knows the reasons why the UFC and every other "real" combat sports promotion don't do 265+ lb men vs someone the size of Riddle. The smaller people would get destroyed and their divisions would be meaningless. Sure, there can be fluke wins but 9 times out of 10 the smaller guy gets washed.
Mike Thaysen Jr that’s not the state made them adopt weight classes to get licensed by the state. Japan does fight with no weights all time and so does pure grappling and the best guys are routinely lighter guys.

Come on Brian, Matt Riddle was a moderately successful welterweight (?) mma fighter, whereas Brock Lesnar was a NCAA division 1 heavyweight champion and the UFC heavyweight champion facing the biggest baddest dudes on the planet, it wouldn't even be a contest! I'm not just trying to put Brock over, but the fact is even if Riddle was equally skilled as Brock, if 2 guys are equally skilled but one weighs almost 100 lbs more (and is a athletic freak not a pothead) the bigger guy will win!

Randy might have been getting out of his prime, but he was still an amazing fighter for his age being essentially a light heavyweight competing against much bigger opponents, I could go either way on Heath Herring, but Mir and Carwin were bad motherfuckers back then! And although he lost to Velasquez and Overeem, let's not forget that was after his battle with diverticulitis and surgery, and Overeem was jacked to the gills on steroids (so strange they didn't reverse that decision like they decided to do when Brock beat Mark Hunt, hmmm...). The only real fault Brock's fighting game had was he depended too much on his natural genetics rather than becoming a more well rounded fighter, if he had improved his striking, like Bas Rutten suggested going to Holland to train kickboxing, he would probably have been the most dominant heavyweight champion in UFC history! Either way, the fact is no one has ever seen a athlete the size of Lesnar with the speed and agility of a man half his size, and the only people who whine about steroids are lazy wimps with buggy whip arms jealous of people more athletic than them!
Brock Lesnar is a grappler and Matt Riddle is a striker. Brock historically does not fair well against Strikers. He gets destroyed almost ALL the time in the Octagon by strikers.

As I recall, there was no eye gouging in early UFC. It was one of the few rules. But low blows were permissable. One guy landed a huge flurry of fists on another guy. And Tank Abott clearly fishhooked his opponents. Royce technically had a weapon via his gi. I think that's how he choked out Shamrock. That said, Brock would beat Prime Royce since he has way more knowledge than other UFC fighters of that era and he's got s huge weight advantage. If MMA never became a thing and they both fought, then maybe Royce would have a good chance as Brock would not have the knowledge and training of a modern MMA practitioner. Just my 2 cents

Their 2nd fight Brock learned and crushed Frank Mir. Frank Mir is one of if not the best heavyweight jiu jitsu player in the UFCs heavyweight division. Not people are saying matt riddle is going to do better than a heavyweight champion like frank MIT? Cmon guys I know this is wrestling but MMA is different and Brocks Lesnar accomplishments in that sport far outweighs what Matt Riddle has done.

As someone who never watches NXT and doesn't follow the indies, I had never heard of this guy before he started knocking Goldberg, Jericho, and Brock. To me, it came across as a guy trying to make a name for himself by knocking people who are or were actual stars.
Precisely. I hate Lesnar, but he IS a star, as much as he shouldn't be. More importantly, say what you will about Bill Goldberg, in the late 90s, he was one of THE biggest stars in the wrestling business. Matt Riddle never will be.
Jim Cornette is right about Riddle. Credentials be damned; Brock would literally pick his teeth with that boy in a street/shoot fight. Riddle would try a flying knee or a high kick; Brock would eat it like a small stack of Pringles, stuff him into the cage and open his forehead up like Moses parting the Red Sea.

I've been an MMA fan for years before I came back to wrestling. Riddle fought at welterweight. Brock fought in the heavyweight. Under the MMA rules, Riddle doesn't stand a chance.

To Brian regarding Royce Gracie vs Brock Lesnar: Brock would tear him apart. Matt Hughes made Royce look like an amateur and Brock is basically a bigger Matt Hughes.
Not sure on that one ..Gracie subbed Severn back in the day so that level of BJJ is a great equalizer. Plus by the time Hughes fought Gracie he was older and the UFC had pretty much changed from where you had one dimensional fighters like Gracie who specialized in one discipline to legit MMA fighters who were well rounded and good in all disciplines. Still a dream match for me would be 92 Gracie vs in prime Lesnar. That would be epic .👍👍👍

John Gallagher Severn was not nearly as well rounded, physically dominant or athletic as Brock Lesnar. Prime Rickson Gracie would get destroyed by Brock period. There has been no successful Gracie since MMA developed as a separate sport. They could win style vs style matchups but not in MMA.
Severn isn't in the same league as Brock in MMA. Mir, Carwin, couture, hunt would all beat Royce. Hell heath herring probably would.

If you go back and watch UFC 4, there were many opportunities that Dan could have done something against Royce but either chose not to or didn't know how. He basically just sat on him for 15 minutes not knowing what to do offensively. His inexperience in that type of fighting caught up with him, not unlike what Frank Mir did to Lesnar in their first fight. As Jim said, anything can happen in a fight but I don't even see a prime Royce giving a prime Brock Lesnar any trouble whatsoever. Smaller guys who knew what to do against the BJJ style have dominated the Gracie's (Sakuraba being a good example). Once Brock learned how to defend those types of techniques (in his rematch with Mir, for example) he destroyed his opponent with little or no trouble. Bottom line is this: weight classes exist for a reason. Royce was too small to do anything against a prime Brock Lesnar. Great points though.

I only watch the WWE for the Rumble every year and watch MMA. When Riddle came out I wondered why he wasn't one of the guys eliminated in 10 seconds to Brock. With their backgrounds they should be friends or enemies otherwise they're both losing out.

Facts are Matt Riddle has not been in a MMA fight in almost 6 years. Brock Lesnar has been out for 3.5 years. The idea the Riddle beats him up is silly on every level. Lesnar competed at a far higher level than Matt, is far bigger and actually has more recent MMA fight experience.

What I love most about Brock is the legitimacy he brings to WWE. There’s a reason he is perceived as a threat and nobody else really has that same appeal. With everyone else, WWE is just a show. We know it’s not for real but Brock makes you forget that when he comes out and that’s the appeal of him. When he’s there, it really feels real for a change. He’s the kind of guy (along with Kurt Angle, Ken Shamrock, Bob Roop, Antonio Inoki and like a handful of others) that you can bring up when you’re defending wrestling to ppl who don’t watch and say it’s fake. You can say, “ok yeah but you won’t go say that to his face lest you care about walking without pain.”

Anything can main event WrestleMania right now. That’s almost a dead spot in a 7 hour show. I like Drew, I liked his NXT run, but he wasn’t main event until he won the rumble. Nothing against the women having the Main Event last year, but the crowd was pretty done by the time that match came around.
The drew-Brock feud probably isn’t going to being new fans to the product, and as I’ve said I like drew and want him in that spot, but he’s a guy only wrestling fans know.
Riddle vs Brock would be money, it would bring in an audience that probably wouldn’t watch otherwise and would probably have more going for it than Brock-Drew.
