  • Come join me on my 17 day full tour of Egypt, where my travel itinerary took me from the Mediterranean city of Alexandria in the north, all the way down to the iconic ancient monument of Abu Simbel in the deep south, covering as much as I could in between. Whether you’ve already chosen Egypt as your next big travel adventure, or if you’re just curious to see what visiting this beautiful and iconic destination is like, then you’ve come to the right place.
    I’ll show you the ancient monuments that Egypt is world renowned for, such as the pyramids of Giza and the pharaonic tombs of the Valley of the Kings, along with some amazing spots that might not be on your radar yet, like the Catacombs of Alexandria and the necropolis of Saqqarah. We’ll cruise the Nile, fly over Luxor in a hot air balloon, get lost in the markets of Cairo, and make plenty of friends along the way. So if you’ve always wondered what it’s like to visit the land of the pharaohs, come with me as I vlogged my once in a lifetime Egyptian journey along the Nile.

      Thanks for the kind words and compliment! I’ve always been interested in ancient Egypt so I learned a lot before I went to enhance my appreciation of everything. Arabic I’ve studied a bit over the years, so it was a fun treat to test out my language skills in person. I always think it’s nice to learn a few phrases in the local language wherever I go - it’s a great way to have fun interactions with local people, especially in places where the locals don’t expect tourists to know any of their language - always makes people smile.

    This was an amazing video showcasing your stay in Egypt. You are a natural nature/ history lover as I am and I had a few questions about my upcoming trip to Egypt. • @daradventures
      @daradventures  3 місяці тому

      This is such a tough question :-) With only 5 days (and assuming that this may be your only opportunity to visit Egypt), I'd spend at least a day in Cairo, you'll obviously want to visit Giza, plus the Egyptian Museum and the Khan el-Khalili market - you could do that in a day, although it would be a long one. You could fly down to Aswan and see the sites in that area - Philae is a must! It's a long day trip, and eats up the whole day, but I can't imagine visiting Egypt and not seeing Abu Simbel. You could do a Nile cruise from Aswan up to Luxor, and then use your remaining time in Luxor - the Valley of the Kings and the temple of Hatshepsut are must sees! 5 days is tight, and they'd be long days, but you can definitely get in the highlights!

You just have to be firm with the no thank yous and ignore and walk away. It’s hard sometimes, to fight the urge to be friendly and polite, but sometimes you just have to be a bit rude. And then they will give up and find another tourist to talk to. At the end of the day they want to earn a living, not scare you. If you’re not biting they go fish elsewhere.

I was just wondering if you had any general tips/tricks for solo travelling in Egypt? I’ve never solo travelled before but I’m definitely considering going to Egypt in the next couple years with Intrepid, so I’m nervous 😅
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Would it be possible for you to share the link to your spreadsheet as well? Thank you! 😊

    • @daradventures
      @daradventures  Рік тому +3

      Glad you enjoyed it! You'll be in good hands with this Intrepid trip. It's a nice mix of having a group when you want it and having free time to explore. Usually we'd get to a site, our guide (who was absolutely wonderful) would give us a little tour or talk, and then we'd have some free time to explore on our own. There's plenty of unscheduled time as well to do what you'd like. My only real criticism of the trip was the hotel we stayed at in Cairo - it wasn't very clean, but not sure if they still use that one. The rest of the accommodations were good.
      I'm actually currently working on my next (and last - finally almost finished with all my material!) video, which is all the Egypt tips I think are important :-) Hoping that will be up in a week or two, I had a lot of tips so the video is taking a bit longer than planned. I can see about putting the spreadsheet on a google drive and posting it here - didn't ever think anyone would want to actually see it in detail, but very happy to put it up if it will help someone else! I'll tag you in the comment with the link once it's ready.
      And don't worry about traveling on your own - there will likely be other solo travelers on the trip as well. I've been all over the world by myself and have made nothing but wonderful memories :-) Show up, put out positive vibes, and you'll be totally fine.

      Thanks - 30 minutes is a lot for one sitting, so appreciate the compliment. That’s a great question. I’m pretty easily annoyed by cigarette smoke, but I don’t recall it being an issue. You’re not going to have smoking in/near the ancient monuments or in the museums, and I don’t recall having any hotel rooms that had lingering odor issues, and we stayed in some pretty basic places where they might not be as attentive to that sort of thing. The only hotel issue I had was with the one the tour company put us at in Cairo, and that was more of a general cleanliness thing, not cigarette specific.

    • @daradventures

      Hi Shelby! Thanks for the compliment 🙂 The only driver I booked ahead on my own was for my day trip to Saqqarah and Dashour. I actually got her name and phone number directly from a Lonely Planet guide book, and just sent her a message on WhatsApp to organize. She was one of the few female independent cab drivers in Cairo at the time, so it was also nice to support a woman in the field. Can certainly send you the number if you’d like. The rest of my time on my own in Cairo I actually just used Uber to get around. If you’re comfortable on public transit, Cairo does also have a metro system. It’s a very spread out city and the trains definitely don’t go everywhere, but it can be useful and it’s another option to be aware of if you’re interested. If you’re staying in a tourist hotel, I imagine they’ll also be able to assist with booking day trips or recommending drivers if you want to build your own day trip itinerary. The two short organized activities I booked for myself in Cairo (the home cooked dinner with the family and the evening walking tour) were also done through Intrepid, and I have the links in the video description if you wanted to check those out.
      For your second question, I’d definitely give Saqqarah and Dashour a full day. They’re not as popular of destinations (which means fewer crowds!), but I really think they should be - there’s SO much to see and explore, and combining that with Giza would make everything a bit too rushed in my opinion. You also have to keep in mind that Cairo traffic can be intense, so combining too much in a day might lead to not very much time spent at the actual destination. Giza I think can be done well in 2/3 of a day. Our group only spend about 2 - 3 hours there, and that definitely wasn’t enough. Hope this helps, and have an amazing time!!!!

One thing to note (and this goes for most hired drivers) is that unless you legitimately are interested in shopping, be VERY clear about that at the start. Otherwise they will make a stop at a preferred vendor and try to get you to buy things. Just be polite but firm on the no shopping, just so that you don't have to waste any time on that.
      Oh I had NO idea there were bats in the Bent pyramid!!! I wish I had known, I love bats, and bats inside an ancient pyramid?!?! Epic!!! I hope you spot them 🙂
      And thanks for the compliment! I'm so glad people are enjoying the video and it's making them excited to visit! Yes, a little research on the history beforehand really helps putting it all into context. Guides will explain of course, but it's good to have familiarity with the overall arc of the era to really help bring the history to life. Hope you have an amazing trip!!

    Hi! I’m thinking of going to Egypt with my family. Did you take any special vaccinations ahead of this trip? Any health problems after eating any of the food during ur trip? Thanks.

    • @daradventures
      @daradventures  Рік тому

      I did not, but I was already up to date on my hepatitis A and typhoid vaccines from previous trips, along with the other routine vaccinations. Your doctor can advise what’s best for you, but I didn’t get anything special for this trip. no health problems, just a bit of an upset tummy halfway through the trip but I usually have some stomach problems when traveling abroad. I went to a local pharmacy to get some medication for it and it cleared up right away! I was amazed at how fast the pills worked.

      @@daradventures thats great info! Do you recommend traveling to Egypt in the winter months or summer months? Thanks again!

    • @daradventures
      @daradventures  Рік тому

      @@awesomely9591 definitely not the summer…the heat will be oppressive and make enjoying the sites a challenge. I went in December and still had plenty of warmth. Cairo and Alexandria got nicely chilly at night as well, which felt nice after the warmth of the day.
