Jack Absalom's: The Journey To Lilliput

  • Опубліковано 13 сер 2024
  • Essentially this program is all about safe caravanning and an extraordinary journey into a fascinating part of outback Australia.
    This journey takes us from Broken Hill in far western New South Wales through South Australia's wheat belt on to Port Pirie and Port Augusta, across the Eyre Peninsula towards Ceduna.
    We will meet farmers, miners and fishermen. Bet you didn't know that the best bait to catch King George Whiting is a mollusc called a razor fish. Bet you also didn't know that Dutch explorers mapped this coastline in 1627 and they were going to settle there some 70 years before The First Fleet ever left England.
    The novelist Jonathon Swift, who wrote Gulliver's Travels, used these early explorers' maps to create the setting for his story. Hence the area being known as "Lilliput", after the tiny Lilliputians who captured Gulliver.

    Jack reminds me of some of the teachers and instructors you got years ago, you never got anything explained twice, they weren't trying to be your friend, they didn't care if you liked them, there was no such thing as excuses, no small talk, you always listened because everything they said was worth hearing and they always knew their stuff.

      @jelkel25 8 років тому

      Stew B If that were true there wouldn't be schools & colleges (though if you have the self discipline you can do a degree on line now) or courses or training.

      There are internet schools now ,college, is mostly for dating

    • @jelkel25
      @jelkel25 8 років тому

      Stew B Yeah, shouldn't think it will be long until the whole experience is virtual (except lunch) and you're looking at holograms instead of a screen. No, college is dating till the last year then it's total panic as you try to get your life together and realise how much debt you're in !!!!!

    Jack, Les Hiddins, and Lofty Wiseman have been inspirations to me since I was a kid. Was very sad to hear of Jack's passing, when these men are gone I will have no living heroes. They literally don't make em like that anymore.

    Jack was a man of many skills, always something to learn from him.
    I love this part of Australia around Port Augusta, Port Lincoln, Streaky Bay and Ceduna. Somewhat underrated IMO, without the hordes of tourists like the Great Ocean Road!

    My Uncle was the mine manager at Iron Knob in 1963. Went and stayed with him and his wife a few times when I was a little kid. Showed me the hole in the roof from a rock when they were blasting. 😆 Chopping chooks heads off on a block of wood and plucking them for dinner. Gee I miss those days. RIP Jack 👍

    39:03 restore that building ! Good to see something from South Australia . That part of the country has something very different on offer. Some aspects of the scenery reminds me of my own country of Denmark

      Did you see the sign Chrysler had on their roof in Australia
      After they teamed up with Rootes, a car company from the UK
      It read "Chrysler Rootes Australia "
      It changed once they realised Aussie slang

    A wee bit of insulation tape on the caravan and back window, line them up and look how much money you saved by learning how to drive and reverse.

      That's a bit dramatic. I've played with mercury as a child when thermometers still had it inside. It's really neat stuff I had so much fun, I looked for the stuff in the future so I could experiment a bit more since I was a bit more grown.

    @16:10 Yup, let's bring the steel industry back to Whyalla, South Australia. Australian quality ore. AUSTRALIAN QUALITY STEEL!!! Bring back manufacturing back on our own soil and create employment!. This will finish the CCP :D
    I mean, they don't need our coal, barley, wheat, wine, beef, etc, so I guess they don't need our ore either!....LOL
    (I'd reckon most would agree, but there's always the odd one that doesn't) ;)
    Cheers!
