I just purchased this exact shell pack tonight and I'm extremely happy with my decision. I want to thank you guys at Sweetwater for making it an easy experience. The website is very detailed and gave me every piece of information I needed to comfortably pull the trigger. Thanks to Nick D'Virgilio personally for helping me narrow down my choices over the last few months with quality playing and descriptions of all these kits offered.
My favorite review ever. The audio, visuals, room sound, how these drums look and sound, and going over the quick lock tom mounts and floor tom legs, and just everything about this review is perfect.
My drummer should have that snare within 5 days & that kit in the same finish with 10, 12, 14, & 18 inch toms delivered in 15 days. We can't wait to hear it in the mix!
I have this kit in the same sizes, different color. This kit may be the best value out there. These stand up to kits twice and three times the price. Tama hardware is so nice too.
Tama is a great great drum maker the best it's between them and dW before they started making their own shells but the star classic is one of the most well made kits in existence
@Joey Lightsey Thanks man, but don't feel bad. Funny thing... I'd been casually looking for a deal on one of these BB's for like 8 years. I got tired of not having one, so I bought a new one in blue Marine Pearl for $1,400 off Reverb. About $200 off, so not a bad deal...Then 2 months later I see this exact same kit (and finish) on Craigslist for 800 bucks!!. So I bought it too LOL. Now I might sell the blue one...But that timing after 8 years of looking was CRAZY!!
I have this kit and love it. I have a the matching 6" deep snare and I just ordered the 13" tom to add on and that should be here in a few days. Very pleased with sound and the hardware set up
I bought the 13-inch Tom 3 Sweetwater. I was going to custom order it which would have taken about 12 weeks but Sweetwater just happen to have one on the way so I threw my name on it and stuffed it up that had it in less than a week. The 14 x 6 inch snare I got from soundpure in North Carolina and they had that one on the Shelf.
Leah Morrison I got this same kit same finish but in hyperdrive sizes. That's the way to go! Hyperdrive sizes with the bb shells is my sound for sureeee. I would def go with Starclassic anyday over superstar although the superstars are also a great bang for your buck but if you have the extra money get the Starclassic cause Starclassics are the best bang for your buck for what you get and the features they give you for the price. I have a 5 piece hyperdrive Starclassic bb and got it for 1969.00 shipped with all the new hardware features Tama brought down from the STAR series that he mentioned in this video. The hardware is just so much better and the finishes and just that extra low end you get out of the bubinga.
Just ordered this Molten Brown Burst finish in a 5 piece Starclassic Performer B/B except in hyperdrive sizes 10x6.5, 12x7, 14x12, 16x14, and 22x18. This finish is the most beautiful finish I've ever seen in my life. My exact style. Flashy but classy and will stand the test of time. After watching this demo, I was sold for sure. And the new upgrades are great, glad they brought down these features from the flagship star line down to the popular starclassic line. Mounting system and quick lock system and swivel wing mount Is the best mounting system I've ever seen. Hope you guys demo a starclassic hyperdrive kit sometime in the future. Would love to hear you demo a hyperdrive kit with the amazing sound quality you guys do with your demos and his in depth insight on everything.
+ShittyMcPoopyBalls no it doesn't. The base of the mount sits on top but it's a virgin non drilled bass drum with a mount on top basically. Awesome design by Tama. Best mounting system on the market
Best kit for the $$, I found a 4-piece for super sale at $1,200! I own one in Ice Blue Pearl wrap and it's versatile and each drum compliments the others.
Congrats!... how you likin it?. I just bought this exact kit also for 8 bills. I already had one in ice blue pearl, so I already knew they were great. I really only bought it because it was a great deal. I might sell one of them and try to make 2 or 4 hundred bucks. Sorry, I'm a gear-head and I tend to get excited and babble a little
@@eastbaymauiboy : thanks, I have been playing it ever since 2008. I chose the kit because the bass drum sounded just right for the Blues I am playing. The toms sound great and warm once I put on coated heads on batter and clear heads on the resonant side. The snare first came too aggressive, but as time went by I learnt how to tune it for better and a more subtle sound. Now it has become one of my favourite snares. Thanks.
@@eastbaymauiboy Hello, help me with my English: what is a gear-head? But yes, I do like it, the sound of the bass drum made me choose the complete kit.
Great sound..Sound as good as drums 2x the price..The finish is beautiful..Tamas Bass drums are legend,IMO...Just flippin cannons...Love it...Now give me My Paiste Sigs and some Ufips and i'll take em....
The Star Bubinga kit sounds about $5,000 more. Unless you have money coming out of your ears I can't see how anyone would justify that price difference.
@@Eagles.Fan.Since.Super.Bowl.52 Totally!...Tama must be moving less units of their super high-end kits by making something this nice. With that price difference, the decision was easy and instant for me, and holy s*** did it pan out!
Gorgeous looking drums and they sound amazing too I just think they're little too expensive for me. If I could get it in a 20x16 12x8 14x12 and a 14x5.5 matching snare that would be my dream kit I just wonder how much it would cost.
I’ve got remo coated ambassadors all the way around and a coated powerstroke 3 on my bass drum on my smokey indigo burst b/b, and the kit sings, it’s a lot more resonant and has a lot more tonal quality than this video gives it credit. Amazing kit, second only to the star series kits
Agree, I love to watch HIS videos.......he plays so great, I want to hear MORE playing....and the TAMA drums just sound awesome. I love TAMA Starclassic the most. Because I live in an apartment I can not play accoustic drums, so I have a DRUM-TEC real shellpack Edrumkit with all TAMA Hardware and put on my 16x20" Kickdrum FRONTHEAD a white "TAMA Starclassic" Fronthead dreaming that I am playing an actual Starclassic ;-)
I'm absolutely pissed that these drums are gone now. From what I've heard thus far, the new Walnut hybrid just isn't as good a mix-wood for the birch. Where else could you get a Scandinavian birch and bubinga kit at this price point? Nowhere, that's where. Not a good move on Tama's part, and I'm willing to bet that B/B will be returned to the market in 5 years or less. One good thing though; I've started to get a LOT of posts on my drum forum about tuning issues with these kits. I'm talking, "won't stay in tune for more than 2 songs"-bad tuning problems. Hopefully between now and when the BB's return, Tama will have smoothed out the hardware issues on these kits because they really ARE a great value otherwise.
The B/B won't return because bubinga is now a restricted wood which is the reason behind the B/B getting discontinued and why we now have birch/walnut.
@@danwatts8269 Restricted how so? Only so much can be harvested per season? Isn't Bubinga a wood native to Africa? And what will TAMA do if they can't build the Star Bubinga? It's my understanding that those sets are very popular and comprise the majority of sales in the Star line.
It's restricted by something called CITES 2 making it an endangered wood species and came into effect in 2017 making harvesting and trading it illegal. As to how the star bubingas are still being made, it could simply be the fact that they still have bubinga wood at the japanese factory where they're made.
It's going to be a shame when these will start disappearing. B/B's are more versatile than the Bubinga kits, as the attack is better. Walnut/birch sounds good, but will never replace these. I'm collecting as many Bubinga kits as I can, while I can

Had the chance to play a 6 piece Saturn V in the deep ocean burl(?) finish. Lovely drums for sure, but Tama’s hardware sells for me, 100%. I love me some die cast hoops (just don’t break them, or you’ll break your bank replacing them)
