would absolutely NOT be opposed to seeing some rock and metal reactions on here. even start small with one or two a week. love your content but im definitely a rock/metalhead. id love to see you tackle some of that.
This is actually like a year old song they added a Joyner verse to and released the video. So that "I can't Breathe" scream was not in reference to George but ended up fitting
It's really, really, nice to see ppl reacting bcz Joyner, and trying a diff genre, and enjoying it. I think even who dont like screams and metal stuff, got chills on "i can't breathe" scream part. Dope colab, dope message, dope react.
I appreciate that the first non-rap trip that I've seen on here is Metalcore. Metalcore specifically is probably the most common genre that focuses on having a message using lyrical depth outside of rap. A lot of people dismiss that aspect because of how harsh it sounds to ears that aren't used to unclean vocals and breakdowns (etc.). Anyway, really cool that you were getting into it. This isn't what you'd call an easy entry into the genre per se, but you picked it right up and it's cool to see.
Man, this is my genre. New age rock spreads so much positivity and love. If you can handle the heavy vocals you can find some amazing music and messages.
Oh man, I'm so glad that you dug this dude!! Especially since you didn't know I Prevail is a metalcore band. They have so many amazing songs. They're real. And I second checking out 'Popular Monster" by Falling In Reverse...one of my fav songs of 2019. Awesome reaction dude!
I’m a little late to this reaction but have watched hundreds of other reactions in the last few years. Would love to see more I prevail on the channel! The newest album is amazing!
This shit gives me goosebumps, the lyrics and the energy of the song, but again, so do most of metal songs, usually have a very deep meaning to them. Appreciate the reaction, fun to see someone enjoying a genre they're not usually in to! :)
The timing of this song is crazy. The original version came out over a year ago and this version with Joyner Lucas was supposed to be released earlier this year but got pushed back due to Covid19.
Respect for you and all your content. Its neat watching you grow. Knowledge is true power. All music is language. This is my favorite video you've done thus far. Keep on duder!
I've been waiting for this reaction Stevie! You are a thinking man's reactioner. This is not just a protest song. This is a brutal & graphic STATEMENT on the evil that's been going on in our country for a long time. Joyner & I Prevail are intelligent & socially conscious artists. Neither of them would've done this if they didn't feel it was the right thing to do. What better way for successful artists to use their platforms to reach & bring awareness to the people on a large scale than to collab with artists from different genres? This is history in the making. And if that "I can't breathe" scream doesn't hit the listener at their core & give them goosebumps, then they need to check their pulse. EVERYONE needs to see this. FYI, Ben Proulx (director) is the mastermind behind the camera. He also does Joyner's videos. THANK YOU for having the balls to react to this song & vid. Even tho this is trending, a lot of other reactors are scared to do it & that's just sad...
I grew up in a home that enjoyed a lot of genres of music. While I liked some rock, mainly classic rock, I was more so into Hip hop/rap and r&b. My mom however, has always been into rock and metal. The heavier the better (picture the mom from Monsters University). A couple years ago I watched the video to The Wrong Side of Heaven” from Five Finger Death Punch. It really hit me, I am a disabled Vet and married to a Veteran. It gave me an opportunity to really listen to the words and embrace the “screams” as the expression and release that they are rather than just “noise”. I’ve fallen in love with metal since then, discovering band like I Prevail (Breaking Down is another powerful video) and Fire From the Gods (so many songs about social justice and “waking up”). Fire from the Gods, Fever 333 and Bad Wolves (and so many more) have members of different races and and thy break the stereotypes that many can have about the genre. I really didn’t know that international metal was a thing. Recently, UA-cam led me to find bands like Bloodywood, a band from India and Ningen-Iso from Japan (the videos just trip me out, not what you expect when you see them).
A lot of their songs have meaning. The lead singer just came out last year saying he JD to take time away because he was suicidal and now they’re trying to bring awareness to it. You should watch Gasoline, it’s a huge message on bullying and the impact anxiety disorders can have on people.
many people dont like metal music because it's alot of screming but if you read lyrics on all metal bans songs, there always is a good mening in every song. Keep it up man !
This song isn't a new one..it just relates to the current events which is why Joyner hopped in on it. Either way I Prevail is an amazing metal/core group and it'd be cool to ease you into more metal with a group like them.
It's so strange to me that metalcore is bleeding into more mainstream genres as a whole in the past 3 years or so. BMTH is probably largely responsible, but I appreciate that (even if it's mislabeled) that more people are accepting the music itself. I still remember back in 2007 era where you'd basically be bullied into oblivion is you listened to metalcore/screaming music at all.
Great vid Stevie. If you want to dip your toe in to rock, I would recommend you start at the beginning. Maybe Fade to Black by Metallica, or Raining Blood by Slayer. It would be awesome to see you do a whole rock reaction series!
Hell yeah, success we got Stevie to react to this! It feel good to see someone grow a person, not even just like seeing the biggest picture, even just the simple baby step of listening to something diff, a diff type of music, its like wow we learn something new every day that hey we can like other stuff in the world that we might not have of really liked or cared for at one point in our life but circumstances change and things can HIT a diff way where you have a better appreciation for it listening to it now vs if you listened to it 10 years ago. Now next track I gotta get my mans to watch is "GAWNE x Rittz - In My Bones feat. Atlus (Official Video)"
loving the reactions and respect the message videos! Keep'em coming If liked the style, even though it won't have the strong message, I used to love listening to Judgement night Soundtrack back in the day. You may enjoy the title track by Biohazard and Onyx
Stevie!!! For a little more Rap/Metal from back in the day that’s still pertinent today. Do RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE- Fistful of Steel and Township Rebellion. I’m telling you you will love and appreciate this band bruh. The message and aggression are on 1,000
What up what up what up Stevie Knight. Im a Norwegian and I really appriciate watching your reactions/breakdowns, gives me alot more insight and understanding of the rap genre! If you wanna check out more rock / metal, i wanna recommend "These colors dont run" by Architects. Theyre a metalcore band from England. Keep up the awesome videos. And last but not least #blacklivesmatter
Ha. I subscribed to this channel to get into rap (I have been a metalhead all my life). It's awesome to see him react to some metal. Love how the boundaries between the two genres are fading away slowly. I am trying to think of a band not so harsh to begin with... Maybe Avenged Sevenfold - Afterlife :) Great reaction and commentary as always, Steve.
Love the content man, come across your videos from prior reaction and just nothing but respect, especially for your perspective and thoughts on the current bullshit. Not really related current events, but got cued onto I Prevail with their Lifelines album, worth a listen if you liked the rock side of it.
I was hoping to see your authentic reaction to a rock song. Glad I caught this one. Highly recommend all Jay Z colab with linkin park, and P.O.D youth of a nation.
Stevie if you're open to trying more rock I'm one hundred percent in on this. As a rock and punk fan I really love seeing hip hop fans thoughts on something outside of their normal comfort zones and I can bomb you a whole list of different shit. Fastest way to get me on yo pateron
Please do one metal reaction a week. Like ”metal saturdays” or something like that. It be real cool to see you experince a whole new style of music. Keep it up brother👍🏼
I'm still waiting for you to venture into this genre. Reach out to me whenever you decide to go into these. The lyrics will impress you. And aside from the lyrics, the musical talent is also there. Great guitarists and drummers
I think a lot of rock and metal gets bypassed completely by people who are mostly into rap and hip hop (and other genres of course) because of the aggression and screaming n all that stuff puts people off but I found that a lot of it does have very deep messages to it in the lyrics. It's strangely emotional and a lot of times very personal to the band and whatever struggles they're goin through or see in the world.
This song is worth the listen, yet I personally dislike it for a few reasons... Both sides of the arguments are purely stereotypes, biases that though some can be related to, will still leave any smart individuals the obvious misconceptions on it while also reinforcing most of the biased people who see it. It's also slightly anti-white... I understand why it was done the way it was, yet it starts off with a white man going at a black dude with all his own hate, then has the black dude responding to it peace by peace. Giving answers and common ground, yes, but still fits the stereotype that all whites are racist while simultaneously offering more solidarity to any black individuals who see it, via this structuring, which also only tricks blacks into following the stereotyping even more. That said, I don't think the song could have been done any other way, so, it's a small gripe from me.
I Prevail is an amazing band, please keep listening to them they go hard
Never heard of them before today but I really like them im a metal fan so I'm kinda embarrassed I don't know them lol
@@huskerchickmissy go listen to Hurricane and Bow Down by I Prevail.
@@VideoEgo1 nice thanks for the info ill check it out now! 😊🖤
@@VideoEgo1 and daz black is in a music video with them
When he screamed "I can't breathe" I almost cried. I've heard this played at the last two protests I went to in St. Louis.
love that bit
I did 😢
So I'm not the only one that when they hear I can't breathe done in the scream it fuckin hurts
@@LiveBetterTryHarder You realize Eric Garner and others said it years before George Floyd right?
would absolutely NOT be opposed to seeing some rock and metal reactions on here. even start small with one or two a week. love your content but im definitely a rock/metalhead. id love to see you tackle some of that.
This is actually like a year old song they added a Joyner verse to and released the video. So that "I can't Breathe" scream was not in reference to George but ended up fitting
Joyner did have a pretty powerful part, but I would’ve loved to see him do a little more. Either way, still a fire ass song.
That would’ve been dope but he is featured it’s not his song
Remember this song was originally written without Joyner
I seems like this is popular opinion. I'm in the same boat, but he was featured on it, it wasn't really like on a full colab level.
I'm from the metal side, and I agree; I would have loved more Joyner. I'm fucking glad he broke into heavy music like this, though.
The missing "I" in "I Prevail" in the title is giving me an aneurysm but I love the reaction and content. Keep it coming!
Same. It stresses me out
I've been waiting for this reaction.
Check out The Blancos ft Joyner Lucas - We're tired. It's a year old but the lyrics relate to what's happening.
All about I Prevail. They have such powerful songs. So happy to see more people into them!
It's really, really, nice to see ppl reacting bcz Joyner, and trying a diff genre, and enjoying it. I think even who dont like screams and metal stuff, got chills on "i can't breathe" scream part.
Dope colab, dope message, dope react.
They’re new to me too but that song , the aesthetic, the message and Joyner = magic. I’m going to check out more of their stuff.
Thank you So much for listening and doing this song. I think it should get the Grammy for video of the year.
What you have to appreciate is the way the are showing that 2 cultures can survive together metal culture and rap together !
I appreciate that the first non-rap trip that I've seen on here is Metalcore. Stevie you gotta react to next: Rage against the Machine- “Killing in the Name Of” it’s a classic and relates to “today”

MGK just done a cover of this
Brandon Kniskern only reason he covered it is because there aren’t many lines of lyrics to memorize.
