- 1/48 Tamiya Republic P-47D Thunderbolt "Razorback"
The P-47 was the first single-seated fighter to be equipped with a supercharger paired with a 2000hp engine, allowing it to fly at the same very high altitude as bombers. The P-47 was armed with eight 12.7mm machineguns. With the P-51 Mustang, the Thunderbolt constituted the main fighters of the US Army Air Force. This is the representation of P-47D early production that was nicknamed "razorback" because of the shape of its upper fuselage behind the cockpit. The P-47D was a high-speed, high-altitude capable fighter and escorted the allied bombers that were conducting raids over Germany. Its 1ton payload and its robustness made the Thunderbolt the perfect aircraft for ground attacking missions...

Thanks for watching!
Dusan, You are a MASTER scale modeler! You remind me of my father who built and filled my childhood ceiling with over 40 aircraft as highly detailed as yours. I was only about 4 when I truly started to understand what he was doing. It was years later that I realized how much work he actually put into them. I did the same for my son when he was about 8, and he is a very good modeler today at 23yrs. I just retired and am returning to this hobby I love so much. Your video not only inspired me, but taught me some new techniques. Thank you so much. I would love to see you build a spacecraft like Apollo Command module or lunar Lander, but I know you do aircraft. Just a thought. Again thanks, your skills are fantastic!!!!
Wakeman Edwards Thank You very much for Your kind words and Your interesting story! I will try to make some other kits in the near future. All the best!!! Dusan.

@@monikarakoczy8627 yeah?
I rarely comment on UA-cam videos, but this time I must. I've recently returned to scale modelling after a 15+ year absence. Consequently, I have a lot to learn and re-learn. But I have to say that this particular video, to me, is invaluable! The collection of techniques you've performed and documented here (in one short video!) far surpasses everything I have thus far 'liked'. The end result is spectacular, in my opinion! Thank you so much!
You are welcome! All the best! Dusan.
I too have a lot to relearn...👍🏼
You are Off - The - Charts when it comes to building models. An absolute wizard. It's like you too the real airplane, shrunk it down and "poof" here's my model. You truly are a gifted modeler. As for me, I think I'll start building Lego's from now on instead of models. LMAO! 😂🤣
I have had this model sitting in my closet in its box for the last 15 years. I guess i should build it.
Beautiful! I especially like the very subtle weathering and not overdone like most others.
Thanks Jurie! All the best! Dusan.
Идеальный вариант окраски!
WOW!! Beautiful job Dusan. You can almost hear the R-2800 growling and snarling. :)
Thank you Sir.
A great build. The P47 is one of my fav war birds.
Milina te gledati kako radis. Izgleda tako lako :) Svaka cast!
Hvala! V. Pozdrav!
Thank you for sharing. Inspired to build a polished aluminum model. Amazing skills clean and concise process. Headed to my workbench after many years of not building.
+Javier Cervantes Javier Thanks and happy modelling! All the best! Dusan.
I love Tamiya model kits. They go together well without any part fitting problems.
Great video by the way! :-)

Svaka cast!
Kanal ti je za svaku pohvalu!

I'm a bit late to the show Dusan, but can I just say that I find your videos inspirational.
It's high time I took up modelling again, after a 30 odd year hiatus!

Awesome work! This kit will be one of my next projects. Now i can look how to do it in the right way!! ;-)
Thanks for loading up the vid!!
EXCELLENT P-47! This being my favorite A/C and model, I must say yours came out fantastic. I'm finishing up on a couple of the "M" versions then going to build all of Maj. Robert S. Johnson's five he flew during the war.{all Razorbacks}. Including the "C" version which I picked up the Loon conversion cowling kit. Once again excellent work, congrats! - Bob
Excellent, C-version OD is beautiful! All the best! Dusan.
What Bob said!
very nice movies, i gived "finger up " you continue with modelling

Feliz año 2020 desde Chile y excelente video y trabajo 🤘🇨🇱
Very nice model, outstanding paint work.
Nice build their I at first thought the P-47s were ugly beast but they grew on me and I like the looks of the Razorback ones more than the bubble top P-47D Thunderbolts because of issues in the air it had the same issues as the P-51 D Mustangs at first the Bubble top ones did
Very nice work. I would have liked more detail on the painting of the canopy, that's where I get a little sloppy. But in any event, great work.
.Great video and amazing work, inspiring!!!
excellent videos! thanks
I have recently acquired these decals. This will be the SECOND build im going to do that you have inspired... CUT IT OUT!!!!
Vraiment magnifique ! Bravo !
That "plastic magic" glue you have sure beats the hell out of those tubes with the big blobs of cement getting everywhere! I can learn just by watching you. Subscribed. :-)
That is one great build! Thank you for the video.
That was awesome! Great work!
Great build nice aluminium effect.
Amazing !!! Thx for inspiration
Very nice job!
Thanks! All the best! Dusan.
Great video and a gorgeous end result! : )
You are the BEST
Great video! Music was kind of annoying though. The repeat lop was way to short for such a long video. I just turned the volume down though. No real biggie. Anyway, I just subscribed. Looking forward to watching the rest of your vids!
Joe Barnes Thanks! I will try to change the music in the future. (It`s a very big problem on YT. copyright)...
All the best! Dusan.
Stunning piece of work.. :)
Rob BasicModelling Agreed I like the P-47 but I like the Razorback ones the most
Just about AMAZING!
great stuff I build tanks and some planes
Beautiful....🤩🤩

+立花徹也 Thanks! All the best! Dusan.
Excellent job !!!!
very good.
Nice video man am making the revel corsair f4u B1 right now i love the model.
16:38 HEYYY CAPTAIN IRONICAL YOU'RE THERE I WAS LOOKING FOR YOU
Beautiful!
great job beautiful.
Great work, inspirational for all of us. I hope one day to reach such result.
One thing I noticed is your airbrushing technique, flawless! What is the pressure you use in your compressor? I guess it is very low to be able to have such control of the flow.
All the best and keep on bringing these wonderful videos!
Thank You Carlos, I really dont look at the air pressure I am looking all the time at proper viscosity of the paint, If the mixture of the paint is too thick to flow through airbrush smooth, I increase air pressure or add more thinner. (maby around 15psi when using thinned acrylics) All the best! Dusan.
You must be left handed or very skilled indeed.
Cheers,
Mark Mergatroid Thanks, Yes, left handed ;-) All the best! Dusan.
A couple of questions from a medeller coming back to the hobby after a ten year hiatus:
Why do you prime with black? I know it works, but I'm a bit ignorant about it.
What airbrush do you use? Incredible airbrush skills friend.
The black primer is great base to check panel lines and You dont need a preshading color...Airbrush> Sparmax Sp-35, All the best!
Dusan.
This is a better question for aerodynamics -related videos, but is there a reason they used welding on tanks to save weight but not on aircraft panels? They always talk about how much effort they went to flush rivet and whatnot to give better laminar airflow etc .. why did they not weld panels on/down?
Simply perfect....did you clear coat the aluminium with gloss or semi gloss?
Mix of a X-22 and flat base to the righ look (semi gloss). Anti glare panels are finished in XF-86.
All the best! Dusan.
Splendid Job! I saw that at first coat you use Tamiya XF22 as primer? thanks for your answer.
Yes, gloss coat as a primer for smooth surface ;) All the best! Dusan.
Lots of great tips.........why do you like to use tape instead of clamps for fuselage or wing sections?
not a P-47 D model all the D models had a bubble canopy that was an earlier variant known as Razorback due to the hump behind the cockpit :)
The first P-47 with a bubble canopy was a modified P-47D-5 completed in the summer of 1943 and re-designated XP-47K. Prior to this, all P-47D's were razorbacks.
Why did you spray model with clear first, before applying the silver? Were you doing that instead of a colored primer? Curious....
Dusan do you ever do a build for someone who can no longer build there own? Cancer destroyed my fine motor skills. I use to build a lot. Now when I do I look like a beginner. Ill pay. Ill ship the model and pay for the return shipping.
Awesome build Dusan!! I have a question for you...if you remember...why you did not use regular aluminium instead of the polished one? Isn't the polished one more fragile?? Are these colors Alclad ones?? Thanks anyway!!!
Are you going to do more 1/48 builds and upload videos of it? I'd really like to see more of that, because you're doing a great job!
pyr0pete Thanks! Yes off course, I have many kits on hold... All the best! Dusan.
ScaleModelAircraft I'm looking forward to it! Happy New Year btw!
pyr0pete Thanks! Wish you all the best in the new year! Dusan.
what is the song when you started the decals,, i like it
What an impressive build man. I am just back into modeling after 35 years and you taught me so much in one video. One question, what is the tack paper you used to hold the pieces on while you painted? It really keeps them in place. Thanks and I look forward to watching more of your great videos.
That's masking tape.
William John He uses Tamiya masking tape. :)
William John knhg
How long did the build take you? Fantastic build!
Thanks Michael, about three weeks. All the best! Dusan.
Great model! A quick question. Instead of a primer, why did you use a gloss coat ? I'm suffering from the impurities, which show up after i paint the main coat or prime the model. What's the best way to detect / eliminate them ?
Superb work!
How long did it take you to make this one?
Thanks! Three weeks. All the best! Dusan.
I have made models when I was a lot younger but I want to start over. I have an Anzio Annie kit and I want to learn how to airbrush. Do you have any suggestions?
Kirk Nitz your best source is UA-cam..plenty of useful info on equipment and techniques,,takes lots of practice to be as good as this example.
Brillant work,,thankyou,,what product did you used for final coat plz,,was it clear gloss tamiya 22
Yes, tamiya clear. Thank you!! All the best! Dusan.
I have the P-47N kit with the meat chopper decals on the side. it is 1/48
Nice kit! All the best! Dusan.
Great modeling but OMG that music is really annoying.
Noooo! You applied liquid poly to areas that were taped . The solvent will seep under the tape and mark the surface .
How do you mask the cockpit with masking tape? Working on a p-39 and dont now how
Was that alclad polished aluminum paint? It came out beautiful!!
+jwa94 Yes! Thanks! All the best! Dusan.
Can you explain the X-1 or X-22 clear paint reason?
Great video. Is this a 1:16 model? Are larger scales of this same plane available ?
This is 1/48th scale. There is a 1/24th scale Kinetic kit. Thanks! All the best! Dusan.
Great video! I like the captions at the bottom. They reinforce the main points without having to listen to unrehearsed chit chat. Question: I got lost on all those silver colors. Did you start off with polished aluminum, then tape off some panels and come back with a different silver tones (i.e. aluminum magnesium, white aluminum, etc)?
Yes, first P.Aluminium then regular airframe alu... All the best! Dusan.
