Sounds like he might not be neurotypical or could have something like sensory processing disorder. Its sad that more people don't know that there are mental conditions that restrict what you are able to eat in a way which is beyond your control.
For me, i have a lot preferences that mean the difference between being able to enjoy a meal or be miserable with it but with certain foods and textures, its instant gag reflex and will lead to vomiting if i try to force it.
But i also have flare ups where i cant eat anything except some really random, specific thing that i might not even like normally but for some reason, eating it for the days or weeks of the flare is the most satisfying thing. During those periods, trying to eat anything else is basically the same feeling as if someone tried to force you to eat uncooked roadkill, its like every cell in your body screams no.
Im sure its different for other people but that's how it is for me. It can rob me of my favorite foods, it's torture sometimes and it doesn't seem to be anything i can control.
I a mum to two autistic kids so matts eating habits are perfectly normal to me .
I help autistic kids at school. I was thinking that, too.
Mammy of two asd kids here too, 😊
Glad someone said it! Need to be in control of the wetness, hmm
Not a mum but I’m autistic and I relate to Matt’s food issues; I can’t stand gravy either....but I do have milk on my cereal
I was an autistic kid and I ate what was put in front of me or it was served up to me at the next meal, and the next one, and the next... And so as an autistic adult I love and enjoy all foods. Give in to picky eaters and they'll be picky all their lives.
I agree about the roast potatoes not being soggy from the gravy, why spend all that effort making them crispy if you’re going to make them soggy! Plus I hate rice crispiest getting soggy.
Absolutely agreed. Some things just need to be dry. Except Yorkshire puddings, they need gravy
But how are you going to enjoy the snap, crackle and pop without the addition of milk? It's a huge dilemma.
For the record i don't like milk. I don't eat much cereal now, but did when i was younger, always dry, including Weetabix😂. I love being weird!
When I was in primary school my year 1 teacher told me she had water on her cereal instead of milk. That was almost 30 years ago and I can still remember my disgust when she said it 😅
a TRUE gravy lover supports the idea that someone doesn't want gravy as that will mean more gravy for oneself.
Hmmm makes you think 🤔
Dry Weetabix is not 'Impossible' - a simple spread of butter on one is very nice.
I dont like milk so dont put it on my cereal either, with Matt there
Gravy is the thread that holds the meal together. It contains flavours from multiple parts of the dish and brings everything together in harmony, while providing lubrication for satisfying mastication, ingestion and digestion... Gravy is the GOAT of all sauces... In India, gravy literally means sauce.
dampness aside I think a lot of people just haven't had proper homemade gravy, with all the flavours as you say. My kids have friends over and basically peer pressure them into trying my gravy if they think they won't like it. They've all loved it and two weirdly asked for an extra cup of it to drink
You had us enthralled up until the usage of "lubrication"
My 4 year old daughter ate dry weetabix for breakfast for a year. It can be done if you’re picky enough!
Genuinely don't understand why they can't accept these are his prefences maybe different to there's but it doesn't affect them.. calm down 😂
The ONLY cereal that they talked about here that I have eaten is Weet-Bix. It was ALWAYS eaten, for breakfast, with milk and sugar on it. Having said that, I can remember eating it dry with butter and vegemite on it. It is a VERY DRY food like that but it was something different.
This is how I feel about dipping biscuits in tea.
Who wants a wet, soggy biscuit?
I don’t eat dry cereal at all. I love biscuits (American use) and gravy.
biscuits and gravy is one of the best american foods imo, and are the perfect proof that Steph is correct to say gravy can be a lead character
This chap is clearly a fully paid up member of the Berkeley Hunt
It is so hard for me to eat out because I have trouble with texture of food but no diagnosed condition and people respond like this panel. It is so humiliating and stressful, it is easier to loose friends. Sad huh
i love dry cereal, and a dry weetabix is lovely
I agree, put your baked beans in a separate container you savage.
🤣🤣🤣
I read that title wrong at first glance.
He sounds like hes gargling gravy 😂
I can't stand soggy weetbix ( NZ style weatabix) so the milk must be cold and not over the weetbix for too long,
I used to have lots of brown sugar on the as well, eating 4 for breakfast for years when younger
BUT at 75 I just have them with milk but have just realised instead of putting milk over tem and the last ones getting soggy, i can simply dip them in to a glass of milk and eat them like dipping toast soldiers in to soup or soft boiled egg.
Sooo much simpler.
This may annoy people but I agree with Matt as far as the gravy goes. *hands up* I know, I know.....
0:20 hear this dude on the radio all the time. I imagined an old man. Not some young dude
Oof, I like these people and this was a lot.
I'm with Matt on the gravy, I've never liked gravy and people always assume that I either haven't seen it or it hasn't been passed to me yet, which usually results in 2 or 3 people realising and offering me it all at once, only for me to say no and them to look at me like I'm deranged.
I avoid gravy whenever possible. I think I was in my teens the first time I had meat gravy and it tasted like grease to me. I had my 1st fried chicken at age 35.
I think I was too old to develop an appreciation for meat fat.
I’m with him. Keep the elements separate.
For some reason I'm reminded of eating buttered weetabix as a kid.
Buttered Weetabix WITH Marmite was our go-to (don't judge)
Matt looks like a young Tony Blair
Sounds like he may suffer from ARFID
This is one of the most quotable clips I've seen.
Hilarious, what a great mix of people
I relate so hard to Matt in this clip. Not specifically about the cereal and gravy, but about textures and the aversion to trying new foods.
...that's.tye main quirk tho
'and the aversion to trying new foods.' - I find this really sad.
I eat dry cereal and don't enjoy soggy-fied food. There. Matt's not the only one.
Dry Weetbix is great with butter and jam or peanut butter and a banana. I’m with the dry mob. And textures! But he makes it funny❤
And butter & Vegemite
I like dry wheat bix (preferably Vita-Brits) with butter and syrup or honey.
I completely understand what he's saying
I agree a thousand percent with Matt ( & yes it annoys me almost as much).
That went on a bit. I get both sides but I don't believe how invested the two other guests were in being incredulous.
I'm with Matt on not liking soggy cereal and that shreddies are best eaten dry straight from the box.
What a cornball…but he’d probably not eat those either…
Ooooooh, fussy eater. That's not what I read first time around...
Same. 🤣
Oh, Dave changed the title of the video! That renders my comment completely nonsensical! Up yours, Dave!
Turns out I'm Matt Edmondson, though I do like gravy
Who is this nobody?
More of a somebody than you are, Bobby Brown pants.
So, he never matured past the age of 5?
Sounds a lot like autism to me
ack, could do without the canned laughter.
I hate blancmange - especially if it's poured on a Sunday roast!
