Always use a drop cloth to protect your driveway since any oil outside will get in side your car, house etc. Makes for easy clean up. Also 11 quart drain pans are available at Walmart for $5.00
Thanks for for making this video. It's seems like a pretty simple process. The hardest part will be choosing an accurate Torque Wrench. This car requires it for everything.
+Marc Antony agreed. I'd recommend a 3/8 inch drive, smaller torque wrench for the oil drain plug and other bolts that need less than 50 ft-lbs. It's too easy to over torque with larger ones.
Your videos have been very helpful in my 997.1 maintenance. I am going to be replacing my spark plugs soon and wanted to know if you wanted to do a video on it with me. I am in Tempe AZ local to you.
Hi Nathan. I wish I had the time, but have been so swamped lately. It's been hard to make UA-cam videos and work on cars. Maybe in the future. Keep me posted on what you do.
Make a video of you detailing the engine bay!!!! Yours is super clean and nice, but some videos show them using hoses and power washers in the engine bay, what do you think? Ammo NYC and chemical guys use power hoses in the engine bay, but it always frightens me haha
Great suggestion. I'll have to try that out on my Subaru first. I did spray the engine down with a water hose, but am a bit hesitant to do so on my 911. I will probably use a more surgical approach to clean my engine bay for the time being. I'll try to record it. :)
Good info bro, thanks for the content. I wanted to ask about the type of oil. Have you heard pros | cons to using Shell Rotella t6? Thanks for your time.
+BrainDesmo I hear that is really good oil and holds up better than Mobil 1. Browse Rennlist and check out some of the reviews. I think it also depends on how hard you drive your car. Since, I don't drive mine too hard, I'm going to stick with Mobil 1 since it's the factory fill. Let me know how you like the T6.
That along with a digital gauge would be nice. Perhaps it was easier for Porsche to lay everything out in the engine bay without having to worry about a dipstick.
Hi Tommy. I use the icarsoft POR II. You can find more details on how to clear the light if you scroll to the bottom of this link ecarguides.com/maintenance-guides/how-to-change-engine-oil-filter-on-a-porsche-911-2009-2012/?diy-vehicle&make=porsche&model=911-997&trim=911-carrera-s&model_year=2009
Hi - think i bought a wrong torque wrench. Cant fit both oil drain plug and oil filter. Will be most appreciated if u ca. Provide links for the torque wrench, oil drain plug and oil filter socket. Thank you
Marc, it's every 4 years or 40k miles. I did mine not too long ago. Here's a decent write up: www.renntech.org/forums/tutorials/article/274-changing-the-polyrib-belt/
which Tekton torque wrench do you use ? and generally what range of torque do you need on your wrench to work on 997.2 ? I just got my car and want to purchase the correct wrench for it. Thank you !
I use this torque wrench for the wheels: amzn.to/2fpoS5o However, it is not sensitive enough for lower torque applications. For that, I recommend this: amzn.to/2fbVcDB Tektron torque wrenches are a good bargain, but just make sure you calibrate them often. It took some time for me to notice that I was using more and more force to tighten my wheel bolts...to the tune of nearly 1.5x the torque needed.
When I click the amazon link for the engine oil drain plug it says it won’t fit my 2009 997.2 C2. It shows part # 900 219 020 31. Any thoughts? Thank you for your time and all the great content.
That is the correct part. Amazon doesn't always map parts to the right vehicles though. Here's a better deal though. www.amazon.com/Prime-Ave-Aluminum-Washers-Porsche/dp/B01N10TILW/ref=as_sl_pc_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=carfanatic07-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=256b06ff190ff3552e46862f14a1a5f5&creativeASIN=B01N10TILW
Ok, so what about Porsche service stamps? There is now way i could sell or buy a car without the service history done at a dealership. How do you know the work has been done over the years?
+Philip Shepherd as someone who purchased two Porsches, one with meticulous records and one without, I can tell you service records is a major plus. However, I don't think it is absolutely necessary. Sure it will help with resell, but you'll be paying more. Will you recoup the added costs? In my case, I save the receipts, log the maintenance, and of course have video proof 😀
I use simple 1 3/4" patio blocks, the kind you walk on in your garden, easy to drive up on them, 2 inch raise leaves plenty of room and tilts the oil pan in the right direction to get the most oil out. Avoid jacking up your Porsche, especially on one side only, it could create problems with the suspension alignment. The car was designed to never be in a 25-30 degree single angle.
Car Fanatic If the sensor that measures the oil level goes wrong is there another way to check it ? With the dipstick you'd never have to answer this question ;)).

I did oil change t my moms house, she freaked cuz I got it on her driveway. I used her roasting pan to catch oil

+Car Fanatic that's a good point, thanks for the tip.
Dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you! You may have saved me $300!!!
Just take your time and do things right!
Hey man loved the video! Just a heads up you should never use a toque wrench to lessen stuff.... It can and will mess up the calibration
Thanks! I will stop doing that
Thank you for the video.
Saved me lots of money time and worry that something could happen to my car. Really appreciate it
Thanks for the great sharing. I'm planning to buy a 997.2. Exciting about that!
That's cool! 911 is my dream! Have subscribed to you, very good channel for 911 owners!
So easy. Thank you Bro.

I’m a 911 wanna be owner, still enjoyed video.

thank you for providing all these maintenance vids! this has helped me a lot!!! keep up the great work and thank you!!!
+Michael Contreras thanks! Will do!
Hi, which website you used to buy the oil drain & gaskey, as well as other 997.2 parts? Thank you!
Excellent tutorial- thanks.
+Drew B glad you found it helpful!

Thanks you for video
How do you clear the service indicator?
Thanks for sharing this video. Where do you suggest buying the Mahle filter, oil ring, replacement drain plug and washer?
+tommy c hi. Thanks for watching. Amazon has all the parts at great prices and with fast shipping. Check out the video description for links!

why oh why can't we have a dip stick so simple and accurate...

What about resetting the oil life light? What device do you recommend? Can you do a video on that if you haven’t already? Thanks

Hi , how do you dispose of the dirty oil ? Great video thanks
I just drop it off at Autozone :)

Hi many thanks. Am looking forward to my first oil change and all thanks for the video and guide!
You should do videos driving the car
Thanks for the suggestion. What kind of driving in particular?
spirited drive please ;)
Is it true that Porsches burn oil and you have to put half a quart every month? I've heard this from someone but I don't believe it,
+ndenkha the 911 can burn about a half quart for every thousand miles but it varies from car to car and how hard a car is driven.
Please make a DIY video when you replace your Drive Belt. I believe Porsche recommends it @ 60K miles.
Marc, it's every 4 years or 40k miles. I did mine not too long ago. Here's a decent write up: www.renntech.org/forums/tutorials/article/274-changing-the-polyrib-belt/
+Car Fanatic thank you for going to the trouble to locate this link for me,
it's very detailed and straight forward.
I really appreciate it.
Interesting thank the oil is measured with the engine running. On 997.1 the measurement is with the engine off.
it's also measured with the engine off on a 996. but the 996 also has a dipstick

hey, can you please post a DIY to change a clutch on 997?
+Saad Ahmed hi, sorry, but my clutch is still good. I would leave that to the pros.
Car Fanatic ok. do you have tooki blue tooth on your car? do you have a video for that?
+Saad Ahmed hi, if you take a look at my channel you'll find a video a did on the Nulaxy Bluetooth device.
how the hell did u kill a clutch on a 997 supposed to last a couple a hundred miles
When I click the amazon link for the engine oil drain plug it says it won’t fit my 2009 997.2 C2. It shows part # 900 219 020 31. Any thoughts? Thank you for your time and all the great content.

How did you reset the service interval reminder?
+Nick Leung I didn't, but it goes away when you put the car in gear.
FYI, dude, you may not want to loosen any bolts with a torque wrench.
Thanks. Minor loosening is okay, but you're right that it isn't optimal.
You don't prime your oil filter with some oil?
Nope. Not according the the service manual. You just lubricate the new o-ring for the oil filter cover.
I was wondering the same. I use Mahle filters on my e46 M3 and always prime the filter on changes.

"I'd like to buy the car. Does it have any service records?
Sure, check out my youtube channel."
Why wouldn't you lift the car up? It looks very uncomfortable squeezing under the low car.
+Michael Rawlins I only had to reach my arm underneath, super easy.
Car Fanatic oh ok. My dad's M3 is impossible to access the drain bolts without lifting the car up

I already miss oil dipsticks...
I would love to also have a dipstick. But, it is nice to have the in-cabin measurement.
Car Fanatic If the sensor that measures the oil level goes wrong is there another way to check it ?
With the dipstick you'd never have to answer this question ;)).
