Would you take a manual or dct? You can only have one! 😀
DCT if I had to choose one, too much of a pain for everyday traffic in a manual.
Value for money, N Line is still very compelling, considering the inclusions which are left out in the N
I reckon manual for a couple of years would be excellent! I'm getting the i20n which only comes in manual, it'll be fun🔥🔥🔥🏎🏎🏎
Hands down manual. Can't go past the engaging and interactive driving experience and mechanical robustness.
Manual all the way.
I bought the manual. Zero regrets. Brings a smile to my face daily.
I’ve owned the manual since 2018 and the DCT for 1 month. The DCT is streets ahead of the manual in my opinion. The car is so enjoyable to cruise around in and comes alive in N/N Custom. The added N Grin Shift and N Power Shift just elevate the car to another level. Just my thoughts.
I agree!
I have to agree with this, it is so much more fun and that is tough going considering how fun the manual is :)
I totally agree! I recently got my new DCT a few month ago! I had the fastback performance 2020 before that and well that was the most fun manual car i have ever driven with the rev-matching and all, but this DCT and the things you just mentioned… i love it!! 😍
One of the main selling points of the N was the option to get a manual at all, couldn't imagine it any other way. Also I've noticed with a few people doing the 0-100 the big time change is going for 3rd but right at redline the car will actually reach it in 2nd (as I've done a couple times 😉)
Nice review again mate. I cam from a manual 2018 myself and bought a dct a couple months ago. It's my daily with occasional weekly fun so it made sense. Never driven an auto before so wasn't sure what to expect but absolutely love the way the DCT shifts in this car and how confidence inspiring it is. Hyundai have done very well!
Best car for its money in that price range imo, the DCT feels amazing and has come along way in terms of Hyundai’s DCT’s from the past, I’d personally buy the manual, not just because I prefer it, but being a mechanic in a dealer, I’ve rarely ever seen issues with them, compared to DCT’s
Now this is mainly based off the older 7 speed dry DCT that was in other models, so far I’ve not seen any major issues with these new 8 speed DCT’s since they’re very new, but time will tell
That’s true! Yes a lot of issues with the 7 speed dry DCT… here’s to hoping this is bulletproof 😜
I have seen some issues with the 8spd dct on the Santa Cruz forums, but not sure about Hyundai N models or Sonata N-Line/Kia K5 GT. I would also choose the manual for the fun, engagement, simplicity, and reliability. That 8spd DCT is just way too new.
I know this is 2 years old but I’ve just picked one up (the dct version) it’s a 2021 model with 25k miles on it, not flooring it everywhere but have a little fun with it, just curious should I be saving up for a repair or has it stood the test of time?
I own a manual N, driven the DCT....I choose manual all day long ...😎
I don't need a daily driver stuck in traffic commuting. In this case I WOULD seriously consider the DCT. However, manual is lighter, more engaging and 'old faithful', plus suits the Hot Hatch label.
It is interesting with these reviews (nice one by the way!) where you are screaming flat out through bends and blipping throttles. That is good for 0.0001% of your driving. When things are a bit calmer a manual can be really chill and easy. The DCT will always be wanting to select a different gear, or sticks in a gear where you could be one higher and so on. Really minor stuff but having driven and owned all transmission types, including Kia 7sp DCT, there is another layer of 'connection' selecting your own gears with a stick and not a flappy paddle.
100% would not say no to a DCT or anyone that buys one. Great choice.
For me manual.
I just ordered the manual...so yes...manual 😅 So glad you covered the manual for the 2021 model...so, so many (too many? 😬) DCT videos out there!!! Edit: I realise that the DCT is a masterpiece in its own right, but I can't go past the involvement that a manual gives
Love the review as usual Matt (spokesman for Hyundai LOL). Having passed my test in '79, learned to drive in a manual and having owned manuals until the mid 90s, it would be a manual all day everyday for me.
I know I don’t want to be known as that though haha! Check out my Kona N-Line review for a good roast hehe
@@CarSauce I'm joking Matt, I love your reviews, you have great content presented with great originality and humour. I used to watch Savage Geese but those guys seem so miserable and extra serious, I have unsubscribed because they make me feel miserable LOL
Trading my dct in for the manual . In auto mode the car changes gear when it feels like, it's unpredictable and an manual mode shifts offer no feel, it's like hitting a button on a PlayStation shifting down doesnt give you that torque kick you would expect.
So you didnt test drive both before coughing up 50k+ ???
@@johneldridge2082 I'm keeping it in used to na motors that's why I am missing the torque kick . I just use manual mode more often
Wow loving the new content Matt Hyundai/Kia are really raising there game thanks for your honest review, one of my favourite shows on UA-cam
Thank you for watching!
Dct vs manual. Lot of unaddressed questions. Which one is faster 0-60, 1/4 mile? Which one is faster on track? Which one has better fuel economy? Which one makes the car heavier, and is it significant enough to affect handling? Speed at the top of 1st to 4th gears? How many times can I enjoy changing gears before I'm above legal speeds? Is it the same for both? Which one should be more durable, easier on maintenance? Is one more expensive than the other?
Like your reviews man, hope you will review the upcoming Civic Type R
Finally a great comparison vid between the manual and the dct! I'm so torn between which one to get... I'm a purist. I've driven only manuals in 13 yrs since I got my driver's license but I'm starting to get older and I'm just sick and tired to drive in my more and more crowded city trafic... 😅
I've never driven an automatic but it just clicks all the boxes.
My heart says the manual but my brain goes with the DCT and I think that on the long term, it's the best choice.
Thanks mate for the vid and for making my decision easier. 🤗 Keep it up! 🚘
Thank you!
I got the manual and have absolutely no regrets. The dct is quick in a straight line but it will get boring.
dct is just as fun.... manual owners like to think its more engaging but in this case it isnt. And i love my manuals.
Great review my man
Thank you!
Good video!! Some video with the new Kia Ceed gt u will get it? It will be so interesting!?
Great vid. Question: Of all the hot hatches and coupes on the market, which cars have the most aggressively bolstered factory seats to keep you firmly in place?
Well Matt, based on your reviews, I signed for a demo manual i30N today, identical spec to the one you tested here. It is my daily but that's my choice, my mix of driving suits a manual as its a little bit freeway some urban and some country and well, I couldn't find a DCT in WA for delivery this side of 6 months. Then there is the street cred of driving a manual and the fact that I can have it within 2 days. I hope I like it (what's not to like), if I don't, I know where you are LOL. All the best and keep the great videos coming.
Hey mate, that’s huge news! Congrats! I’m sure you’ll love it, I keep getting Hyundai to let me drive one 😜
@@CarSauce Watch Matt Brand review on a Sunday, buy on Monday LOL
I have the DCT in the Polar White, looks pretty good with the windows tinted nice and darkly. Without tint it can look a little blandish.
I actually enjoy driving through town and on the highway, and especially love the twisty bits, so I’d get the manual. But I do understand that if driving has become a chore and you do things like drink coffee or surf the phone while driving, the DCT would be your valid choice.
Driving to the review site with a coffee in my hand sealed the deal for me 😜
James shugg. 🤔
While driving, safety comes first and then talking on the phone (on the ear), drinking coffee is a big risk factor... so it is forbidden!.😡
My next car will be an elantra N but my only conflict is that I want the manual for a more connected/fun daily but I know the DCT is just simply faster all around and I want to squeeze all the speed I can out the car. Any advice?
I've driven neither car, but I've always purchased manual vehicles because I find them more engaging to drive. It's for this reason that I've ordered the i20 N. Of course, there's no right or wrong answer when it comes to which transmission is better, but you're wrong if you think autos are better to driven than manuals.
I'm a bit sceptical of the large gaps in the front grill. Perfect size for a rock to come through on the highway
They look fantastic in black mate 🇦🇺🍻👍
Very true!
I actually like the interior of the base model, especially when I see a manual gear-stick in it. :) When I see a DCT lever, it is disheartening. :( I much prefer the base model driver's seat (to that of the Premium) with its lumber adjustment and cushion extension; appears to be more comfortable for longer distance driving. :) Interestingly, with the hatch the manual is cheaper than the DCT, but in the sedan the policy is to provide them at the same price (it is does make choosing the manual over the DCT a tougher choice).
1/02/24; Currently the i30N hatch base model manual can be had for $50,841 drive-away in Melbourne, whilst the manual sedan, 2024 model, as a Premium, is $56,885 drive-away. Whilst a Honda Civic Type R, which is a manual, is
$72,600 drive-away.
If you live in Australia and like to go for road trips the DCT is the best option !
can't believe that the N line does not have Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) or Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) - very annoying. Would have bought an N line in a heartbeat but had to settle for the 2.0L Elite. Would have got the DCT as well.
I was gonna get the dct with sunroof, but then with subsidy, I got a model 3 instead. Still have change to spare.
Both great cars!
Manual gearbox all day of the week, i drove a DCT and a manual and manual is 150 times more engaging
With the auto can you switch into neutral while driving and then back to drive if you want to do some cheeky rev bombing 😅
Hey hey hey.. what’s with the polar white hate?? Haha.
Good comparison :)
I have a candy white GTI but performance blue I drool over!
206 kilowatts of power can remember when it NSX had that
Was that front seat all the way to the back?
DCT - if you were looking for a manual to keep throughout the EV age it wouldn't be this one.
Would take the DCT!
Great review, but you used launch control incorrectly. When used correctly, you can hear a distinct kind of 2-step limiter kick in at your chosen RPM. If you fail to initiate launch control correctly, the car just clumsily revs really slowly... Which is what happened in your attempt.
DCT hands down, it's just that good
The manual is also around 40kg lighter
Good point!
Also the turn in when cornering feels lighter in the manual than the DCT due to the manual being much lighter.
@@lukemothug3744 Yes, Im buying the manual with the buckets, without the roof (to save weight also) :)
@@MiataND3 any1 know how heavy the sun roof is?
@@ghty56222 don't know but Manual weight: 1.419kg. DCT with roof:1.505kg (tested in N-cars forums) 😜
I just ordered the DCT 😄. now gotta wait 10 months. Pure agony 🤣

This guy can’t drive a manual properly
Why would I buy a Hyundai as a weekend car?🤔
DCT is more faster :)
10k cheaper than NZ! LOL No wonder we barely see any I30N or I20N on the roads

I wouldn't buy any car without the handbrake. Take note VW.
Matt were you are in Melbourne your better off with a manual as there is a big problem with the apex gang re car jacking members of the so called Apex gang can't drive manuals
