Released in June 1989, Adventures of Bayou Billy is probably best known as "the game that kicks your ass in the first stage" and being obviously influenced by Crocodile Dundee. As Billy West, you have to save your girlfriend, Annabelle Lane, from the evil clutches of Gordon so you can get into a hot, 8-bit make-out session with her. Source: speeddemosarchive.com/BayouBil...

For those who stumble across these videos, a speed run is a video of a person or persons, completing a game as fast as possible using any means possible. This can include glitches, abusing in-game mechanics and skipping items or even playing events out of sequence.

I'm convinced Feasel is some kind of an elder being just for being able to finish this game, let alone do it fast. Holy cow.
Someone did it in 16 minutes
I love when he says "Glad that's over. I can't take another driving stage." right before another driving stage.
As a child I could beat contra, I could beat double dragon 2, I beat zelda and it's second quest, I beat dragon warrior, I beat megaman 3.
I could not beat the first level of Bayou Billy.
The enemies take like a million hits for them to die but few hits taken from you your ass dies quicker then quicksand
Zelda 2 seems a lot more comparable to this game. Thankfully Zelda 2 is not too hard with just a few tricks.
I beat all mega man
I love how characters walk in this game, especially to that music. Amazing that a speedrun of this game can be so fast.
Started by watching GDQ in 2018.... then went through their playlist and steadily started watching older and older stuff. It's interesting to watch how the show evolved. Now I'm at something recorded in 2013.... looks like they started by filming in someone's living room and gradually became a professional studio. Fascinating.
Bayou Billy, where you can hit a black man with a whip in the South.
"He was whipping ME just a minute ago!" - players who did just that
Watching certain games being run reminds of how bad I suck at those games. This is probably one of the hardest NES games ever, but we were stoked on it as kids, idk why..
Feasel no wonder we all like you. You make this game actually look fun, and you're amazing with that zapper. I'm now convinced that Bayou Billy (along with Contra Force) should be redeveloped as a Rebirth title with heavily improved mechanics and visuals.
Let's hang out sometime! We could go to Bourbon Bourbon, Pool Pool Pool, Bar Jazz Bar, or MOON KONAMI.
Awesome game, awesome runner, thanks SDA.
Feasel is my favorite runner. Good stuff
Holy shit this brings back memories. I had this game as a child and used to try and beat every once in a while although failing miserably. Unfortunately my NES and games were given away so I was never able to beat this game.
Pretty cool how the bearded guy on the couch can just turn into a giraffe when he wants. 18:17
I had a good time playing this as a kid.
The crushing loses! Now that's a deep game
Lots of fun to watch thanks!!! And I swear, one day they will notice all these comments, pleeeeeaaaassse, can we not just have a ticker for the donations? I mean Feasel is working through the difficult precise driving stage and instead of getting to concentrate he along with the rest of us gets to hear these numerous (albeit generous) donations being read out paragraph after paragraph. I do hope in The next year or two they will consider the ticker option
Cant believe this speedrun exist
This game kicked my ass so hard growing up, but the music was legendary, at least that first level...damn, it had all the funk an NES could put out
This game had no chill! I remember playing it as a kid and never getting to the driving part for so long! Also, this guy is really good and he finished the driving with seconds left!
i actually love this game unironically, i think it's really fun
As soon as the run hit 22:52 this game instantaneously became my new favorite game.
Shoot Psy? So ahead of its time.
That was epic......
DE ADVENTSHEAURES OF BAUEOBIYEEE!
Spoony made that game look humanly impossible to finish
He actually made it look somewhat easy
No one thought it possible to beat this game without an emulator. Now they see this video
Note that NES games do NOT use ASCII - but they use a similar idea (there's a series of text tiles in memory, including all numbers, characters and symbols, and they're arranged in an arbitrary order for that game - so each game has different garbage above 9)
So awesome. Great run. I wanna see Renegade!
nice job!! i never pass the first stage.
Holy crap, they based the length of those driving stages on real world distances.
For anyone who was interested in knowing why it displayed odd things above 9, it's because (and this is only a guess, but I'm very sure that this is why) the variable is a char variable, after 9 it goes : then ; etc
look up an ascii table, it starts at 48 for 0 (and probably checks if ( 48 == (int)lives ) for when the player dies) at 57 it becomes 9, and at 58 it becomes ':'
HOW DID HE DO THAT.? 😱😱
I cannot be evaded.
Owned this game since I was 5. Beat it ONCE.
Oh, cool, thanks.
Fry's pretty awesome with a whip.
Bad guys in this game look like wearing a fitbit and trying to get their steps in.
The game mechanics do not really allow for a speed run, but nice job. I was curious about this game as a child, but watching this now, I am glad I didn't waste money on it!
We had Bayou Billy when I was a kid, and I never knew it was a lightgun game, because I never got past the first stage. My uncle might have, but I've no idea idea how he fared using the controller to shoot, lol.
Can't hate the music, it's pretty good in my opinion ^_^
Pretty cool to see Dominic Monaghan on the couch
good fukkin shooting. Billy the kid!
Crack that whip!
This Zapper...is the best Zapper...Ever!
Amen
Crocodile Dundee ftw
Shout out to SpoonyOne. did a fun review of this game way back
man used to beat this game with too many attempts at the first stage since i was 9 .
Yo I had a light gun and only used it for Duck hunt, I had no idea you could use it with these shooting sections, I used the controller...goddamn stupid 5 year old me.
I thought I read somewhere that the american version driving stages were nearly impossible with how little fuel they give you to add more fake difficulty for the american market
Will Feasel be able to find the swamp chicken, where the SpoonyOne failed?
I like how the guy on the left sits like Dr. Evil.
The premise of this game never made any damn sense but I loved it when I was like 8
Literally the typical Mardi Gras experience.
this god damn game ruined me
in russia this game name is - "crocodile sir"
It seems there are two speed runners who kick major ass - Feasel and Funkdoc. They speedrun multiple games and fucking dominate them.
:D the adventures of mr. Jump McKick xD
Oh god that avatar. I remember that ;_;
the facial hair in the room is overpowering
is it just me who thinks the enemies look like elvis?
you need to make the game screen bigger
When are you guys going to upload SGDQ 2013?
good))
I beat this game with the game genie.
"This game has the best music and the worst game play" LMFAO...the truest statement about this game oh my lord.
Are you guys going to post Cosmo's run?
Worst part of this run is the zapper parts. He's not holding the best way and one of his eyes are shut. When handling a smaller fire arm, both eyes open, but keep the sights aligned with one eye.
Why is that the preferred method? Not a gun person, im just curious. I find it difficult to align with one eye and keep both open, just doing so in my living room gives me a slight headache. Maybe it would be different with a real target to look at.
+blanktester he learned one technique, but that's not a solid rule.
play this game with the power glove LOL
"or as I like to call it, the adventures of Jump McKick." Nothing....
JAZZBARJAZZ
AVGN brought me here
i still cant make it past stage one....not even close....
i could never beat lvl 2 on this
Orange gun original
180mph?
pauseunpause did this in 22:00
He is holding the controller wrong
But he beat the game and we can't, so maybe we're holding it wrong.
all the running guys in the 2nd shooting stage look like Psy
so much laughing, but nothing funny. This was one of the hardest games to finish, every level is such a hassle
I clicked on 2:24 and almost crapped my pants! LOL!
Such a good but flawed game
I don't think he owns it though :/
As a kid i beat this game without even losing a life, afterwards I never played it again. Hardest game I ever beat.
Then you woke up.
Back when ADGQ was actually done with people who were good at the game rather than good at breaking the game.
destroyed this game when I was 8, kind of miss it
i can smell the loneliness and BO from here
This is ridiculous. So this game is even difficult in some respects for this speed runner!? He cant beat the final boss without the whip!? He nearly ran out of time on the 2nd driving stage despite a near flawless run at 180 mph!?
This game is a joke. The developers need to be taken out back and shot... err, I mean whipped.
The Japanese developers upped the difficulty for the US release to punish US gamers who would rent the game. The original Japanese version is a lot easier.
The developers had nothing to do the flaws you mentioned, it was the North American publisher that ruined the game.
*****
Konami themselves published the game in the US. And Konami wasn't the only Japanese company to do this. In Japan, you cannot rent a game, but in the US, at that time, it was legal for video stores to rent out games. That meant Japanese companies were only receiving money from the initial sale to the video store in North America. A lot of people who would have bought the game were renting it. To solve this issue, Japanese companies upped the difficulty so that it couldn't be beaten during the typical 3 day rental time, without it becoming very expensive for the user. Suddenly, outright buying the game becomes the cheaper option.
Yeah, hence why Ninja Gaiden III's and Castlevania III's difficulty were cranked up in similar fashions. I guess my initial comment was poorly phrased, but I was trying to say that those flaws are exclusive to the (butchered) NES release, the real version of the game is vastly superior.
newguy90 How does that solve the issue?
Look at all the virgins lol jk
lol they all mispronounced migraine.
One of the least enjoyable games of all time.
possibly the worst game i ever played.
To this day, I am shocked that there isn't an AVGN video about it lol
+Joelsuf there is! kinda...
Poodlehorn No I mean like an actual AVGN episode, not him and that prick Mike Matei playing it on stream or something. I suppose Spoony beat him to the punch tho, I still remember Spoony's review of the game,
+Joelsuf AVGN and Pat the nes punk did a review of it
