Everybody liked Super Mario Galaxy, so in 2010, Nintendo released Super Mario Galaxy 2. Originally conceived as "Super Mario Galaxy More", or basically a way to implement everything that was cut from the original due to time constraints, it ended up growing into a fleshed-out sequel. At this past Awesome Games Done Quick, $1,025,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It only took a week of continuous streaming, 18,000 donors, and many many runners to achieve. A big thanks to everyone responsible for these amazing numbers, what a humbling achievement. For comparison, last year's event raised just under $500,000.

After this game came paper mario, which at the moment is more popular with runners. And after that was Zelda wind waker or a few smaller games in between. So people wanted to get rest before those big games.
It was like 4am when Yoshifan played this. It was also the last day so like Nathan said people wanted to sleep before the last big day due to games like Wind Waker and Chrono Trigger
I always had a feeling yoshifan was really shy in real life, just by the way he composed himself online. It's cool to finally see who he is!
Being very shy my self, I could sense exactly how he felt being on camera doing a live speedrun...quite nerve wracking for him to some degree I'm sure, but he pulled the run off well and loosened up some as he progressed.
Man, the Galaxy games were so great

I managed to get 242 stars, but it took me 3 years
It took me 2 years to beat bowser, 3 more to beat special world, never finished the green stars. At the start of this year, it took me 2 months to get all 242 stars, I am now forever at peace

I'm going to flip my shit at that stupid announcer reading such small donations over such crucial/concentration heavy sections of the run!
And yes, that was very annoying.

I know you guys have a lot to work on but screen region size and audio volume need to be fixed for the next AGDQ.
Maybe you just need louder speakers... It sounds fine for me. If you want quiet, watch the first marathons they did. Those were terrible and not watchable.

For the Upside Dizzy Galaxy, wouldn't it be faster to do the hidden star first? If you want to get a letter and a powerup on the same trip back to base, that would seem to be a good place to merge the two events, especially since that pipe is available to first time you enter the level.
I really like how the players get to show off their practice at home and get insane times that someone would never imagine getting for a good cause.
3D Mario speed runs are always amazing. It's incredible.
I've been stuck on the perfect run since 2011... And then he beats it in 6.5 minutes!

why are these videos so damn quiet?
Turns out they dislike giving the GAMERS some mic volume, instead the donation reader gets it all...Should be a bit reversed in my opinion, donations are great and all, but kinda of pointless having commenters when they have so little volume. Hope they fix it in the Summer get together this year.
And also, I was watching youtube videos before at a comfortable volume then I come here and it's too quiet to hear, so I end up turning my speakers all the way up which sets me up for a blast of volume if I do anything else and forget to fix them.

It's probably at least partially because it's worse to have the mics in the audience too sensitive in case they start picking up unwanted background noise, or making the clapping come out even louder than it already does.

They should really only read donation over a certain amount, because hearing about $1 and $5 donations takes up too much time.
I agree that it drags on, but people like the shout outs and they don't want people to feel disappointed.

I absolutely adore this game. Nostalgia is filling me just by watching this. Its an AMAZING game, and I wish they make Super Mario Galaxy 3 for the Nintendo Switch.

also I love that the donation reader seems to know this game pretty damn well and calls out the runner when he does something that looks like a joke but is actually insanely hard (example the 100 purple coins around 1:34:40)
In Galaxy 2, you seem to be a bit of a monster. You are crushing random animals in order to get coins/stars.

Just a thought... anyone else noticed that Rosalinas earrings are the same as the think on the massive chain chomp in SMS? Also the ghost that appears in 3D world, there are loads of them in the sky in galaxy 2.

not trying to be that guy, but why do most speedrunners say "but that's fine" after they make a mistake? u screwed up, u know how to fix it, so don't try to play it off guys....ur far superior to us in running and know you guys are sick and able to overcome some shitty situations. as long as it's not a frame perfect run lol

I'm pretty sure its just a normal North-Eastern U.S. accent, maybe from somewhere in the West U.S. I don't really hear anything that stands out about it.

i recently got super mario 3d world and beat world bowser in 5 days then i went onto world star and it brought back so many great memories and now im watching speedruns of smg 1 and 2. i need to go and play it again (smg, not super mario 3d world)

You should do that mod level for this game where some guy on UA-cam hacked to make a way harder version of the Perfect Run- It's called the Master Quest.

Is there any sort of list showing the amount of comet medals required for each prankster comet?
You don't need an amount, you just have to get the medal for a particular galaxy to get its prankster comet to appear.
I rember in the video the speedrunner was saying something about the number of either medals or stars having an affect of when a level gets its comet level unlocked. This is in conjunction with having their own comet medal. This makes since because if it were just having that level's comet medal unlocked, then recieving that comet medal would auto-unlock that levels comet star, which it doesn't.

What version is this run in, cause I can't yoshi flutter or spin wall-jump in mine. Also, incase this is an earlier version, is their anyway to unpatch the game?
If you manage to see this:
Yoshi flutters are where you do a flutter jump (hold a) and then you press z right before the flutter ends. it's pretty difficult to learn, and I'm still trying to do it consistently
Wall jump spins is basically spinning after a wall jump. I found you can also spin directly before the wall jump as well
This is a wii game, this is before Nintendo started updating their games.
It doesn't work like that, there was one release. ONE. if you're watching this you are playing the same game as he was. I attempted this earlier this year and it still works. There was no patch, no different game

hold a, but don't complete the jump, instead, while holding a, hit z and let go of a, hit a almost right away and hold, rinse and repeat and there ya go warriortoad
but you should practice, i've only got it down to like 4 at best
