What’s better? Lead white or Titanium

  • Instructor @lyasya_sinkovski helps us analyze: What’s better: lead or titanium white? Some artists will only use lead, some use titanium. At ARA, we use both, but prefer lead. Lead is easier to control.
    Titanium has a higher tinting strength, makes other colors appear cooler in mixtures, and decreases chroma. It also takes longer to dry. Lead is more delicate and dries faster. But it yellows over time and is more expensive. At the end of the day, use whatever you prefer!

    The resulting paint films are very different, too. I use lead.

    I think you should show the differences in hue and saturation when both whites are used to create the same value. And also perhaps see if a small amount of yellow will give you the same hue as lead when used with titanium white

    So what if you use half the amount of titanium compared to full amount of lead? I would guess that the result be about the same with value and chroma. That would make titanium more economic. Unfortunately i don't have both paints to test it
