El Sonido Podcast - Lido Pimienta: Crónicas de lo Sublime

The music and thoughts of Lido Pimienta have that spice. That tang that makes you feel and think. It's a sensation she masters, experiences, and practices to perfection as she blends the songs she grew up with in her native Barranquilla, Colombia, with those she has created in her current home in Canada.
What does it mean to be from a place? What does distance signify? The Afro-Indigenous Colombian-Canadian composer, producer, and singer will say it's a journey to the sublime, a constant attempt to honor her Caribbean roots as something beyond the exotic. This musical and political crusade is her way of representing and honoring her culture, her body, her language, and her flow. A Caribbean flow that is learned through songs, food, and conversations in her community.
In Episode 6 of El Sonido: Cancioneros, Albina Cabrera explores the songbook of Lido Pimienta and some of her recommended artists such as Roberto Carlos Lange (Helado Negro), Verito Asprilla, Meridian Brothers, Diego Goméz (Cerrero, Discos Pacifico), and Meridian Brothers. At the same time, we go through a songbook composed by Petrona Martínez, ABBA, Joe Arroyo, Nelly Furtado, Nidia Góngora, and many more.
The episode features contributions from official collaborators of El Sonido, two of the most respected voices in the Latin music scene in the United States: Katalina Eccleston, better known as La Gata, creator of Reggaetón con la Gata, a bilingual platform dedicated to the study of reggaeton from an antiracist and anticolonial perspective; and Jennifer Mota, a Dominican storyteller and audiovisual producer.

En el episodio 6 de El Sonido: Cancioneros, Albina Cabrera viaja por el cancionero de Lido Pimienta y algunos de sus recomendados como Roberto Carlos Lange (Helado Negro), Verito Asprilla, Meridian Brothers, Diego Goméz (Cerrero, Discos Pacifico) y Meridian Brothers. Al mismo tiempo que repasamos un songbook compuesto por Petrona Martínez, ABBA, Joe Arroyo, Nelly Furtado, Nidia Góngora y muchos más.
El episodio cuenta con los aportes colaboradoras oficiales de El Sonido, dos de las voces más respetadas de la escena de música latina en Estados Unidos: Katalina Eccleston, mejor conocida como La Gata, creadora de Reggaetón con la Gata, una plataforma bilingüe dedicada al estudio del reggaetón desde una perspectiva antirracista y anticolonial; y Jennifer Mota, storyteller dominicana y productora audiovisual.
