The worst part about Hey Little Tomboy is that it’s catchy. It’s got great instrumentation, but the lyrics are creepy.
Bruh the fact that the guy laughed when he explained the song made a hole in my soul 💀
Someone stripped out the lead vocal and kept the rest of the track - ua-cam.com/video/rX4ZoOmIWOo/v-deo.html

seeing Brian Wilson in that Summer of Love video made my heart sink
His death stare game is so on point
@@GrouchyJelly im still surprised half the worst songs arent from summer in paradise
Oh dude, the cherry on top of the shit sundae that is Summer of Love is how Brian Wilson in the video both looks like he’d rather be doing anything other than be in the video and is looking at Mike Love like he wants to choke the fuck out of him!
The bad guys knew him and put him in the video.
I really love "I'm Bugged Out At My Old Man." It's a very cute song and I like how it sort of wraps up the whole album. I don't know, it's obviously a silly song, but it's actually pretty good. To be honest, I look forward to hearing that song when I play my vinyl copy of Summer Days. It's a groovy song if you give it a chance. I like the loneliness of just the piano and Brian's voice, it's oddly satisfying and makes me smile.
Fun fact: Summer of Love was originally planned as a duet with Nancy Cartwright (voice of Bart Simpsons) for a planned Simpsons movie, but Fox turned it down
Even fox was like "yah. Nah."
The Beach Boys are an American rock band that formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Distinguished for their vocal harmonies, adolescent-oriented themes, and musical ingenuity, they are one of the most influential acts of the rock era. They drew on the music of older pop vocal groups, 1950s rock and roll, and black R&B to create their unique sound, and under Brian's direction, often incorporated classical or jazz elements and unconventional recording techniques in innovative ways.
The Beach Boys began as a garage band, managed by the Wilsons' father Murry, and with Brian as composer, arranger, producer, and de facto leader. In 1963, they had their first national hit with "Surfin' U.S.A.", beginning a string of top-ten singles that reflected a southern California youth culture of surfing, cars, and romance, dubbed the "California sound". They were one of the few American rock bands to sustain their commercial standing during the British Invasion. Starting with 1965's The Beach Boys Today!, they abandoned beachgoing themes for more personal lyrics and ambitious orchestrations. In 1966, the Pet Sounds album and "Good Vibrations" single raised the group's prestige as rock innovators. After scrapping the Smile album in 1967, Brian gradually ceded control of the group to his bandmates.
In the late 1960s, the group's commercial momentum faltered in the US, and despite efforts to maintain an experimental sound, they were widely dismissed by the early rock music press. Carl took over as the band's musical leader; records from this period later enjoyed a cult following among fans. In the mid-1970s, as their concerts drew larger audiences, the band transitioned into an oldies act. Dennis drowned in 1983 and Brian soon became estranged from the group. Following Carl's death from lung cancer in 1998, the band granted Love legal rights to tour under the group's name. In the early 2010s, the original members briefly reunited for the band's 50th anniversary. As of 2022, Wilson and Jardine do not perform with Love's edition of the Beach Boys, but remain official members of the band.
The Beach Boys are one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands of all time, selling over 100 million records worldwide. They helped legitimize popular music as a recognized art form and influenced the development of music genres and movements such as psychedelia, power pop, progressive rock, punk, alternative, and lo-fi. Between the 1960s and 2010s, the group had 36 songs reach the US Top 40 (the most by an American band), with four topping the Billboard Hot 100. In 2004, they were ranked number 12 on Rolling Stone's list of the greatest artists of all time. The founding members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

I had no idea thanks
That's a lot of words,
Too bad I'm not gonna read 'em.
Yeag
Well it's a love thing
*record scratch*
Summer of Love is definitely one of the most confusing and terrible song ideas to ever come to fruition. Also, yeah, having just now heard of the song Hey Little Tomboy, I can safely say that I wish that I was still unaware of its existence. Also, Ten Little Indians had to be one of their absolute worst that you didn’t mention.
I also feel like Dennys Drums could be just trying to capitalize on Dennis being "The Hot One" to get them teen girl sales. Perhaps requested by the record Label. I feel like thats probably the reason for Dennis being lead on "do you wanna dance" though thats a bop so I'm not complaining.
Always loved Denny's drums. Solid track. 👍
I Want to Pick You Up was actually written about one of their baby daughters. It's Penny, but he really wants to Pick her up! Listen to it again.
I meant "punny"
I think melodically, musically and lyrically I think it’s actually one of their best songs!
Love You is a seriously good album. I don’t even care if the lyrics are playful or childish. It’s actually really really well done!
I feel like even the most hardcore beach boys fan wouldn't be able to excuse summer in paradise
“Hey Little Tomboy” is only creepy if you picture the 40-something Beach Boys singing it. If you picture it coming from a teen boy a year or two older who maybe grew up with this girl on the same street, it’s kinda cute.
Bad take
imagine mike love being the fifth beatle
Well he did hang out with them in India and contributed some ideas to Back In The USSR
i love the kokomo war in the live chat
Please rank The Beach Boys albums I’d love to see that video
how is ten little indians not on the list, that song is god awful
Swap it for "Rock And Roll Music"
Our feeble minds simply can’t process the innate masterwork that is Hey Little Tomboy. To even try and do so would kill any sane person. Only someone like Brian Wilson, already an absolute madlad, could do such a thing
Because of the era we live in I appreciate the lyrics. Its postwoke
I'm surprised you never mentioned the 10-minute disco disasterpiece rendition of Here Comes The Night, from the L.A. album
"Summer of Love" and the album it appeared on was discussed more in detail in 'Todd in the Shadows' Trainwreckords.
I agree with six out of your seven. I personally like I'm Bugged at My Old Man cause it manages to be sad and funny at the same time when you consider the environment the Wilson brothers grew up in. I think I'd replace it with Beaches in Mind. I'm not crazy about Daybreak Over the Ocean either, I wish they'd done a new version of Cool Head Warm Heart instead. Also looking around Beach Boys forums I think I'm one of the only few that actually likes When Girls Get Together.
I am very much a ladies man
Brian in the video for Summer of Love looks like a mafia hitman who was sent to kill Mike Love, but then took a bunch of acid and now he can't work out what the hell he's doing there.
Great video! You should do an album ranking on all beach boys albums if you wanted to
"SDT" sticks out like a sore thumb on Surf's Up, but as a stand-alone, it's completely alright …it can't be in the bottom 7. There's just so much worse stuff.
"Hey Little Tomboy" is a lyrical abomination, even worse on the "Adult Child"-version. The composition itself is pretty great imo.
Always loved SDT! Carl rocks out. 😎
Nah, Student Demonstration Time is good, not great, but good
You could have probably put any random 7 songs from Summer of Love and you'd be right.
I fucking love Student Demonstration Time. Shouldn't have been on Surfs Up tho. Should've traded out SDT for Big Sur and then released Landlocked (which would've had more hardrock songs had it been released)
i like student demostration and all i want to do , much rocker! great voces mike love, great guitars!
If don’t worry baby is on the list I will rage
Don’t worry, it’s not. That’s a well-loved classic. :)
@@TheWaterlooWatermelon don’t you mean be my baby
Our Favorite Recording Sessions is literally 2 minutes of them goofing around and they thought it was good enough to be put on All Summer Long.
Hey little tomboy is 97% of everything people hate about Mike Love, wrapped up in one song
6:54 That clip with Brian Wilson in the background looking like he doesn't wanna be there summarizes this whole thing perfectly; that face really does say 1000 words.
At least Smart Girls is endearing. Its almost like Temporary Secretary for me, where by any standard measurement, it shouldn't be considered good, but I know about the person. And I can enjoy goofy "bad" stuff by them.
But I wouldn't say most of these are the worst. As you said, you could have put and Summer In Paradise song at 1, thus filling up the whole list. Really just anything post 80s and before Thats Why God Made The Radio.
Like with lots of the songs you mentioned, the lyrics are either goofy or just straight messed up, but they have catchy melodies and instrumentation. And I can ignore lyrics more the most part in support of beautiful and catchy melodies. But when most everything after MIU, which isnt too good itself, is not good in any way, I'd put them before I'm Bugged at My Old Man
WELL HEY NOW. ITS A LOVE THING.
Kokomo - written by John Phillips, Scott McKenzie, and Terry Melcher with Mike Love adding the island crap similar to Surfin USA or California Girls (his repetitive schtick). He's received so much credit for so little input in so many areas, not just songs.
The worst part of Student Demonstration Time is that it comes after Disney Girls, the two are the opposite
and... its great! student should be the first song of album! and second long promised...
You know Summertime In Paradise is bad when it's the only Beach Boys album not on Spotify 💀
* Also, It's Thom Yorke not Tom Yorke
It aint a Waterloo Watermelon video without a mistake lol
Bruh I never knew that until now tf 💀
I'm pretty sure there are a few other albums that aren't in spotify neither.
(And they are all bad)
@@alittleguy8114 Yes, Still Cruisin' for example
@@toastertwo1602 there’s also Stars and Stripes too
Every song on this list better be from Summer in Paradise.
I can't see Kokomo being one of their worst. Not their best, but its pretty decent imo.
Wonder how Mike Love feels about that student demonstration song now that he's a pretty right-wing old man.
It was pretty much a right wing outlook in 1971. Utter garbage lyrics
Great job :) i really enjoyed this video :D How its going with Ringo dating simulator? xd
After a long period of depression and not feeling like touching it, I am finally getting back into making the game and I moving away from Scratch and rather making it with RPGMaker. :)
Love the trailer my guy
Now rank their albums
Damn those vocals in Summer of Love made me happy of being a semi casual Beach Boys fan. I'm sticking to the vegatables for now lol
I think it’d cool if you were to do a top 7 best songs by them. My top picks for thatwould be
1. Heroes and Villains
2. Good Vibrations
3. God Only Knows
4. Sloop John B
5. It’s About Time
6. Long Promised Road
7. Darlin’
First person I see that agrees with me about heroes and villains being their best song.
@@alittleguy8114 And it wasn't even finished. Imagine what it would have sounded like if Brian's vision had come to fruition.
my top pick would be god only knows. no question.
I wish I could say Im so fine from the cocaine/hamburger sessions would be good to be there just their are no high quality versions.
Honorable mentioned for your best list : " Feel Flows " . It's actually my
favorite Beach Boys song .
Summer In Paradise is alright (other than Summer of Love lol)
BRIG NO FUCKING WAY WHATS GOOD HOMIE
Do you think you could do a vid on the Grateful Dead??
I'm bugged at my old man and Denny's drums don't deserve to be on this list, I think their great.
I feel cultured when I watch your videos
@0:50 Finally we talk of one of the bad ones sung by that lost member, Too Embarrassed…
It was actually Brian
The big difference between beach boy and Beatle albums is that The Beach Boys added absolute crap to virtually every album, whereas (contrary to Lennon) the Beatles didn’t. I agree with most of your list.
I think there’s a lot worse than ROCK N ROLL MUSIC: Susie Cincinnati, Papa Ooh Mao Mao, the song where they count, and the one where they visit their Gram come to mind
"they added crap to every album" cap pet sounds smile but other than that i agree
My fave yucky beach boys song is "Don't hurt my little sister" Especially Brians falsetto counter melody or whatever you might call that at the end, where he's singing "Why dont you love her, like her big brother" melodically is one of my favorite parts of any beach boys song, but lyrically is just soo yucky and incestuous.
6:55 Brian knows this is total Bull and ain’t hiding it lol
I have no argument with any of these selections - none of them are taking up any space on my MP3 collection.
great video
I aboslutely love the beach boys. They have some of the greatest songs ever made. They are just so good and there production on their music is groundbreaking. God only knows is my favorite song by them and in my top 10 greatest songs of all time. Its also the greatest love song ive ever heard. "wouldnt it be nice, good vibrations and surfin usa are also amazing.
Still Cruisin, That Same Song, Drive In, California Calling, Kona Coast, Pitter Patter, are a few others I hate.
I actually love Hey Little Tomboy. I just imagine it's supposed to be sung by a teen boy. Regardless, the music is great.
I only noticed now that when he was talking about the first song at the end, the background is 2Fort, litterally casual.
Student Demonstration time sounds more straight outta Schoolhouse Rock tbh
Brian have a better flow than Mike
Hey little tomboy is disturbing but catchy
*I read the title and see the M.I.U in the thumbnail*
My brain:
It's a joke, right?... Right?
Their Berry cover isn't bad. It's like a train steadily chugging along.
it just clicked... none of the beach boys songs are ever happy past pet sounds.. its all contextually depressing summer or love .. mike and brian rapping. its pure anguish captured in audio
kinda surprised Never Learn Not To Love wasn't in here
I don't know why you'd want to put kokomo on this list, i actually like it pretty much, not their best, but not the worst by far, now I'm of course no super beach boys fan but i like them and I've listened to lots of their songs, and sure kokomo isn't that interesting, but i like the chorus and that's good enough for me :)
As far as the best song goes... For sure Good Vibrations, there really is just something special about that one...
Kokomo is not a bad song. It got to #1. And Summer of Love? It's one of my favourite songs from the Summer in Paradise.
But if you hate it, I don't care.
EDIT: The transition from song to talking is c r e e p l y c o o l
please do more beatles and bb vids king
Omg lets go can't wait
04:05 dude, as a hardcore Beach Boys fan u don't have to apologize about your statement, anything after 1971 isn't really worth it, you'll find good tracks but not as good as their old stuff. Their album "15 Big Ones" sadly it's a bad record, even Carl Wilson voice can't fix it, fucking Mike singing without energy
jesus was way cool
There was this demo made by Brian in I think 1976, called "Lazy Lizzy". I think it's even worse than "Hey Little Tomboy".
Summer in Paradise was an Insult to The Beach Boys and Brian Wilson's legacy.
The whole point of The Beach Boys is to have fun living the California Dream.
They’re at their best singing about surfing, girls, cars, and rock and roll. Most critics of theirs are too elitist and jaded to appreciate them.
Solid picks, but no Roller Skating Child?
Surprised that more summer in paradise songs didn't make it on but I'm glad that that one made it on
Plot twist: it's all of them
CRISPY WHATS GOOD HOMIE

@@onecrispyfrie1932 WOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Yoooo u did use my comment! Nice!
There are a lot of great sounding songs with simplistic or creepy lyrics around, doesn't bother me as long as the vocals are alright.
And why should lyrics have to rhyme ? Not one of these songs is on my 65 track Beach Boys playlist; and as i never listened a lot to the others,
don't know how any of them sound anymore, Kokomo included. As i really dislike their nasal metallic back up noise, quite a lot of pretty good songs
that suffer too much from it got discarded. The title track of that last album is not bad, so it's in the playlist.
"Please don't kill me Beach Boy fanbase"
They would agree with you. There are bad Beach Boys songs. Sometimes they have more times using humor to talk abour their downfall, more than they praise their success. The rest of the time thay have, they are divided on praising Smile (while saying how the other Wilsons are underrated) or defending Mike Love.
Ya I’m a hardcore fan and am always ready and willing to admit that well near 50 percent of their catalogue is trash lol.
@@brianking2365 it's the weezer problem
I hate kokomo because when people are introduced to the beach boys they always get requests for kokomo. In my opinion its a catchy song that i enjoy but when people compare it to their 60s work i just get mad lol. God only knows is my favorite song by them and i consider it the best love song of all time. Its also in my top 10 best songs of all time. also i have never heard of hey little tomboy and omg the lyics are freaky lol. what the heck?!
I know a lot about the Beach Boys but never heard summer in love and now that i see the video.... did i block it out maybe?
Smart Girls only exists because Brian was forced by his abusive therapist Landy
SDT is such a horrendous turkey, Mike's weird apolitical protest song, so guff
I only saw "Summer of Love" for the first time recently. I genuinely thought it was satire.
About "Denny's Drums"--yes, a "drum solo" song seems like filler, but in doing so, they actually pioneered the "drum solo" song for countless other rock bands to follow. For I will submit to you, that without "Denny's Drums", there would be no "Toad" by Cream--no "Moby Dick" by Led Zeppelin---and yes--no "Rat Salad" by Black Sabbath. True, Dennis Wilson could never hold a candle to John Bonham or Ginger Baker, and Keith Moon begged to take Wilson's place--and as rudimentary as his drum solo was, he was the first to do the "drum solo song"!
I like SDT
this could just be a list of songs written by Mike Love
I try not to judge art by its content but the way in which it’s content is executed.
Actually the official title is "The Beach Boys Love You"
At least none of these where involved with charles manson.
I'm not f*cking joking, listen to "never learn not to love" and then listen to "cease to exist' by charles manson
I can't account for why but I like "Lahaina Aloha". It's a guilty pleasure, I guess.
Rock'n'Roll Music was the tipping point where The Beach Boys became a joke. I despise Kokomo with a passion, but if you couldn't include that one I think you should've had their collaboration with The Fat Boys on Wipeout. A completely unnecessary remake of the instrumental classic which was only done to piggyback off of the far superior Walk This Way from Aerosmith and Run DMC. A shallow and unwelcome money grab which somehow managed to get to #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. Hated it then, hate it now, hate it forever.
The whole of Summer in Paradise is #1. All of it. There is nothing redeeming about that cardinal sin of man.
Same goes for Mike Love as a person. Screw that guy in particular.
and yes, summer of love is the absolute worst
but I really enjoy surf's up's title track
It all goes hard. All of it.
Even as a massive Beach Boys nerd who likes a lot of their garbage, I must admit I agree with all of these (except maybe I Want To Pick You Up, the instrumentation is cool but the lyrics are terrible)
I always loved I Want To Pick You Up. I mean I always viewed it as a cute father child song, rather than a freaky fetish, but even the instruments I like, and the ending harmony is just divine
Sorry, freaky fetish, Brian described as a song about a guy who wants to treat his girlfriend like a baby
@@charliestoops8815 Yeaaah, but you don't always need to view the song as the writer intended. So I will continue to not view it as Brian wrote it. Its very sweet as a father daughter song.
Solid picks. If you haven't seen it yet, I really recommend Todd in the Shadows' video about Summer in Paradise; he absolutely tears it to shreds lmao
And I'm stilul surprised that Rock n' roll music's The most played song of 15 Big Ones. Also Idk why but I think Denny's drums doesen't deserve that place xd
There are more bad Beach Boys songs than good ones.
epic
How did Rock And Roll Music become a hit? It came out during the resurgence OF The Beach Boys, that’s how. You want a completely bizarre, “bad” song? Flip the single over and check out “The T. M. Song”.
You are SO right! Genuinely! I realized that in these old videos, I talk so negatively, when I realize now that every song has power to be beautiful to anyone. So it is wrong of me to listen to something a few times and because I’M not connecting with it, say “this is bad.”
@@TheWaterlooWatermelon naw, man. If it doesn’t connect, it doesn’t connect. Sometimes it doesn’t connect on first listen, but you hear it later and it’s “and I didn’t like this why?”….usually happens.
