1. If you do not want to deploy 2. If your spouse doesn't want you to be gone for a given amount of time 3. If you just want to get away from your problems 4. If you're going in doing a job you have no interest in 5. For the money You're welcome!
Nathan Zhang join the Air Force they have many space related jobs or if you want oceanic travel that is literally the Navy. Also it may sound funny but the Space Force is now a thing so just wait until they start recruiting, they are all about space and space travel/Security
I grew up very poor, in a bad family situation and needed to get the hell out of where i was. I was going nowhere fast. Probably in real trouble if i had stayed. I joined the navy in 1990 and retired in 2010 as a E6. Went to college after that and was on the Presidents list and graduated with honors. The Navy taught me how to work on equipment, and deal with people. I couldnt be happier how my life turned out.
Nice. The military is best for those that don’t have much of a future in the civilian world and the chances of them ever retiring or becoming a homeowner is slim to none because the best they can do on the job market is land a job where the peak hourly wage is $5-$10 above whatever McDonald’s is paying their part time high schoolers. If that’s you just join the military, you got nothing to loose. Become an army plumber or a navy HT, do your 20 years and retire at 53 with a house to come home to somewhere in the fly over states. If you’re gonna work, you might as well work for the company that will benefit you the most in the long run. Beats being 59 and still having to break your back at a warehouse
My nephew join the army because he had a part time job in his home town not making that much money his mos signal corp and when he got out finish his bachelors degree in criminal Justice did some legal soon during pandemic is now medical sales purry happy what his doing and the money is good. Best wishes to everybody here.
@donald8354 Damm, that's nice, bro. I want to join the military myself, particularly space/or airforce, but I do not want to do a combat job, because of my relegious beliefs. I finished a semester in college, my major was in Business, sales and marketing.
I joined after i broke up and divorced my ex wife. I always wanted to join and she said she wouldn’t be with me if I joined. It just happened to be an escape on top of that. I think it was an emotional and logical decision. I had other reasoning.
Chris Miramontes No not at all. Find someone who is supportive of your goals and ambitions. I’ve been with an Air Force tech sergeant for several months, she’s a lot more understanding and mature. Knowing we both could deploy also creates a trust and understanding that you just can’t get dating someone outside the military.
why would your wife be disappointed in you for wanting to join the military? being upset that your going, I understand, but she should be proud of you for wanting to join.
only to run into even more problems in the military (especially the army/marines) since the military is a contract you typically can't get out of until its done.
Also, I joined because I was an addict and needed something good in my life, so I joined the Army and became an infantryman (11b). Best decision I ever made.
@@zachlackner6071 I'm thinking about Infantry, I want to do something that is memorable and exciting. Not just work another 9-5 regular job. Am I gonna regret it?
@@92powerdiesel61 that really depends on who you are as a person. I loved it and it was the greatest experience of my life. Others, hated it because we are always out in the field doing training exercises. Sometimes it's hard to find any alone time. But like I said, it all comes down to who you are as a person, and remember, you can always re-class too, (switch MOSs).
I graduated from there. Everything is too easy. Just be on time, be in the right uniform, and pay attention to detail. The only problem I really had was being out in the freezing cold everyday. Overall I enjoyed my time there.
Maybe because you’re unsure if you should reenlist or not, or maybe deep down you’re second guessing your decision to join in the first place. Or maybe you’re just sitting on the shitter at 11:30 at night tryna pass the time while also simultaneously tryna piss before you wipe and head back to your room.
"Getting Away" isnt my major reason for joining, but it is one of the reasons. With my current situation, the cost of living is far more expensive than my occupation's annual salary, so I'm financially trapped. It's not that I want to get away, I just want to get ahead of the game and save and gain career experience to get promotions and department transfers to live comfortably.
Quickscope One Eighty Same here I live in a bedroom with my single mom and little sister I want to have a livable wage along with housing benefits also look a lot better with my current career choice ( firefighting) also I want to be part of something bigger than me a brotherhood
I think a lot of people do it to get away, but not necessarily from a temporary situation, but from a long term situation like not having enough money or being stuck in their home town and not knowing anything about the world.
For number 3, I wouldn’t say getting away from your situation is a reason not to join, if anything it’s more incentive to join. I can’t tell you how many friends I have that joined to get away from the shitty people in their circle of friends, and family. It saved them from hard drug addiction, abusive family situations, gang affiliation, etc… When me and several of my friends joined (all separately mind you) when we left a lot of our friends started dropping like flies. Drug overdoses killed quite a few, lengthy prison sentences claimed even more, homelessness, suicides, murder victims, one dude killed his parents and killed himself while going through withdrawals. That could’ve been us if we stuck around and not one of us fails to acknowledge this. There’s nothing wrong with using the military as a vehicle to escape bad circumstances in your life.
True man, that’s the beauty of the military that most civilians overlook. They give people who have a bad standard of living and have hit rock bottom a second chance to start from scratch and build themselves up. Not everyone has the resources to just move across the country and start fresh.
My reasons are (in no particular order): 1. I can study anywhere I want with the post 911 GI Bill. Will make my goal of getting into an MD/PhD program more possible since I'll be able to apply to any school in the country and it's taken care of financially. 2. I want to grow as a person. I'm 25 and lived with my parents my whole life. I feel babied and want to grow as a man. 3. I'm heavily introverted (sometimes even shy) and want to learn how to work better with others. 4. I can give my parents and myself healthcare. I am currently uninsured. 5. I can give some of my salary to my dad so he can quit his part time job and go back to school. 6. I can possibly get a second bachelors degree while on active duty and this will make me a better med school candidate. I will pick 68C nursing MOS as well, to get more clinical experience and work alongside doctors. 7. I'm a fitness guy and would enjoy waking up early and working out lol. That's like a treat to me to be honest. 8. Travel. I hear 68C's go to Korea often times. 9. I can save money for an emergency fund, retirement, kid's college fund, etc. 10. VA home loan. 11. I like guns and want to learn how to shoot. What you think?? Good reasons??
DUDE YOU SPOKE MY SOUL and I turn 24 soon I fuckin feel the exact way. Mine is also lack of discipline motivation excuses and somewhat depression. Good for you bruh because this will inspire me and I need to get my mindset straight
To anyone in the comments who's getting shipped out to start boot camp training, I wish all you guys good luck and I hope you guys become the best person you can be and make this country proud.
Bro you say don’t join for the money but it’s really good. I’ve worked warehouse, restaurant, entry level jobs since I was 16, they go NOWHERE. you are promised NOTHING, even if you try your heart out and do exactly as you’re told (especially if you do as you’re told). The military will literally give you a place to live, show me another job that gives that, show me one that will feed you, show me ONE.
Had PTSD since fifty four! You have to learn to live with it.I still get scared of sudden noises and the sound of jet engines but I made it to discharge and worked in Govt. Contracting for twenty three years. You can't let it control you like most people do!
1 and 2 exist in the civilian world. 3, granted, if one sees enough combat. 4 and 5: Won't happen unless they start it. A lot of personal problems that get blamed on military service existed in those persons' psyches regardless of whether or not they were in the military.
Before joining the service, I encourage everyone to work out and go to the gym!! You have to be physically fit!! That is one no one told me when I joined the service!! I was struggling in boot camp, but got better because of remedial training.
Laziness is a big one. If you are lazy, the military is not a good fit. Do your time, behave and set yourself up for success when you get out. So much the military can do for you
My parents split up as I turned 18. I wanted to go to college but had no money. I had a crappy seasonal minimum wage job that was coming to an end. I was a few steps from homelessness. The army worked out great for me. Just get a good MOS.
Leaving to fort Jackson February 24th for basic training joining as a 88N reservist and I think I thought of everything before I decided to join! But I agree ☝️
#4 is big. Luckily when I enlisted 2 years ago, I got the job that I wanted (Combat Engineer). After being in for about a year, I found out about a job that I wanted even more (Helicopter Pilot) after making some very good decisions and being a good soldier, my leadership shined the light on the path of how to get where I wanted. Just because you get a job you want, doesn’t mean you’re stuck there, but DEFINITELY don’t take a job you don’t want
I went in for Artillery and Korea. Waived my contract for something offered in Basic Training. Entered Warrant Officer Flight Training 2 1/2 years later. Never made it to Artillery or Korea. Best decision ever.
I have no desire for anything, like being a docter, teacher, electrician, etc. I have been in jrotc for almost 4 years and I'm going to graduate in 5 months. I don't want to go to college yet because I don't know what I want to do specifically and I don't want to go into debt for a degree in which I might never use or I'll hate. I would like to go eventually, if I join I'll go after doing 4 years unless I want to re-enlist, if I re-enlist I'll might do it while I'm in. I know that the military is nothing like jrotc. But I feel like if I don't join after high school, I'll never be brave enough to again. I'm also afraid that I'll get fat again. I am a 5 foot tall female, my mile time is 8:44, I can do 47 crunches, and 30 pushups, I can't do any pullups, I weigh 147 lb, and I was orginally 163 . People see me as mentally strong and a goofball. But I'm deathly afraid of failing and being too week. I want to join and travel, but I don't know what mos I would do, I'm going to do some research. I'm afraid that I'll hate it and regret joining, but I'm also afraid that I'll regret for the rest of my life that I didn't join. I have a mother and a younger brother, I'm 3 years older. I get in fights with them a lot. I'm afraid that I'll end up resenting them and start to hate them, sometimes they make me want to join the military so I can get away from them. I love my family but I feel like they make me depressed sometimes. My little brother is a freshman and he is into football and basketball. I'm afraid that I'm going to miss the rest of his childhood for something that I'll end up regretting. I feel like I'm a baby bird that is watching everyone else fly off and I'm just peering over the edge of the nest looking at the drop and how far I could fall if I don't fly. The number one thing I fear is being poor, the second is never finding someone to start a family with. I feel like I might be passing up on the option to meet someone in college. I've never had a boyfriend before. I have a cat and she's already 8 years old, i don't want her to die while I'm off in the military. I had 2 cats but her son has already passed away. I just want to find happiness, I don't have the motivation to do the dishes, and I just cleaned my room after like 4 monthes(I don't eat in my room). I feel like I'm going in a downward spiral. I'm starting to crave freedom, but I'm too afraid be on my own. I also think that the reason I'm fighting with my family a lot more is because of wanting to be free but being too afraid of actually being free so I lash out because my mom still treats my like a child. I'm getting a car soon so I think it should be better after that. Sorry for dumping all of this on you guys but I feel like I'm lost. Any advice would be appreciated.
Having to get away can be a solid reason if you think it through and understand the changes your life is going to go through, I joined a few years back to “get away” so to speak and to better myself and it was the best decision I’ve made
@@pharaoh4866 Whole bunch of ways to do it. Quit, get injured, fail too many tests in some branches, get reverted too many times, commit a crime, get psyched out. Boot camp isn't just a right of passage. It's a job interview and you can fail
MrCurbinator I don’t need an explanation of the possibilities guy, I’ve been there done that years ago, Im asking him how he failed basic out of curiosity and so i can maybe give him some advice to help in the future. Basic really ain’t that hard unless you get a serious injury that holds you back.
It is official, I will be talking to recruiters this year and start the enlistment process next year once I graduate. I have made up my mind to follow in my dad's brother's grandpa's and cousins footsteps and join the military
I was in basic when the big deal with Iran was going on. My company kept asking for updates on the news. Two of my infantry drill sergeants told us, " If the war begins, you want us to tell you guys?" Us trainees all said yes. The drill sergeants both said, "You'll know the war started when we aren't here- because we're switching units and fighting." For the next two days we didn't see them, and I thought the war started and they left. They were back the following week. Love the videos Matt :D
I’ve been watching your videos ever since I thought about joining the Army and your videos have been a very big help. Shipping out next week to Benning, 11X.
6th reason: If you are clumsy, forgetful, or accident prone. If this is the case for you, you will hate your time in the military, and everyone will hate you.
I’m two of those things and am on my second year on service. I’ve loved my time and I work along side some amazing people that I know if they “hated me” would have cut the rope with me a very long time ago.
Don't really agree with #3. Some people come from horrible places. The catch is that if you do go in to get away from home make sure #4 is set up and you can get the job field you want.
You dont have to be buff to be in the military!! In fact, some of the best soldiers I've come across arent big and buff but lean and cut. It's a good mix of both muscle and leanness. Most buff people struggle heavily with running so if you heavily insist on being buff, balance that with being good at running because more muscle mass means being heavier for your legs.
Shoutout to you Matt for answering every question I have about the military. You’ve helped out a lot in deciding whether it’s a good fit for me or not. Ship out to Fort Leonardwood February 18th ✌🏻 thanks for all you do bro
Joining the Army in 2001 was one of the worst mistakes of my life. I really didn't get anything beneficial out of it but an experience of how far discipline can go. I despised my time because when I got out my discharge was literally a bad discharge, although medical, preventing me from enlisting ever again. I really wanted to join the navy, wouldve probably made something of my time in if I had got in after the Army, but my discharge prevented me from joining. Also I was promised bonuses I never received because I was dismissed from service while in OSUT. The recruiter lied to me.
What do you mean by 'bad' discharge? If you were discharged out of OSUT, you didn't even finish your initial training. Did you get a BLS? That's not a 'bad' discharge. Lots of people get them. I highly doubt the recruiter 'lied' to you. It's right in the contract (did you read it before you signed it) that you get your bonuses upon completion of certain training and service milestones.
I went Infantry in the National Guard! I thought to myself about all the pros and cons before I went to basic, and I’ve had so much fun! I mean there’s a lot of bs, but it’s been worth it, and if you like to work out, shooting and don’t mind taking orders, and like learning, and take pride in doing a good job you’ll like it but another thing that you kind of mentioned, but could probably be a number 6 is definitely how someone deals with bs, like just being told you have to be something you don’t want to. That’s a big thing I see, and if you can’t deal with that type of bs, don’t join.
I graduated 3 months ago from fort benning as a 19k, it was literally the worst and best time of my life and it broke me, and it defiently was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life . I’m now in the national guard and the only advice I have for people that are bout to go is that you can do anything you put your mind to. Also if your thinking about joining I would consider the national guard because you only work one weekend a month and you get paid to go to college full time!!! Totally worth it
Hey, I'm new to this channel. A couple weeks ago, after long pondering, I have decided to join the Air Force. I am currently waiting for my local recruiter to contact me in a few business days. I am nervous and excited at the same time. I'm nervous because I'm afraid the Air Force will reject me; I am excited because I'm tired of feeling stagnant growth wise in my life and I am having high hopes that the US military will change me for the better In short, my biggest "why" for the military is to achieve personal growth. I turn 22 years old next month and by this time next year, I am hoping to be a fresh new member of the USAF - or apart of any branch in general. I have a long journey ahead of me, but I think in the end, it'll be so worth it.
I graduated from there. Everything is too easy. Just be on time, be in the right uniform, and pay attention to detail. The only problem I really had was being out in the freezing cold everyday. Overall I enjoyed my time there.
Don't join if researching the various MOS job descriptions is too much for you to be bothered with. This is especially important if you score well on the test. This is your future. Take the time to look at your options.
Early squad ayeee, great video Matt! Its important to share this information for folks who are 50/50 on joining, but do not know everything about it or joining for another reason than wanting to.
As far as money...McD's pays more than the lower ranks. But you get free housing and three cooked meals per day. Free medical and dental care. All kinds of services for free. Posts may have golf course, racketball court, gym, library, stores, service garage equipped with tools and lifts to work on your own car, onbase colleges, and other stuff. And the opportunity for travel (sometimes to places you don't want to go). You won't get rich, but I always felt comfortable and well provided for. The security of a steady job. Wife and I had an onbase townhouse with small yard in a nice subdivision...all for free. BAQ allowance covered groceries at the nearby commissary. You could live with basically no expenses if you really wanted to.
it's also good that apparently air force might be better for married service members since not only are deployments much shorter but also there is no month away out in the field like army. Supposedly lots of people in the air force even get to do their own PT, which would mean no 0600 formations which would mean the member would get a few hours more at home.
@@dezaster0412 I just graduated 31B Osut in November, currently at my first duty station in Korea. It's gonna be challenging bro but just dont give up! Best of luck!
I'm on my way to F Lwood I want basic to start already because I've been doing nothing for the last 24 hours. I'm sure reception will just as boring if not worse. Hoping for Korea, Hawaii, and Cali
As a veteran I tell you my biggest reason for telling you not to join the military TOXIC LEADERSHIP EVERYWHERE YOU GO there always going to be a clown in charge of you, there's always one I mean everywhere you go every unit, every post, it never fails
Well, you'll have the same in the civilian world as well. Don't say you can rectify that by getting a new job. Job searches can take months or even years in the civilian world.
About to flunk out of college so now I’m here trying to figure out if I’m gonna join. Edit: I am now going on a 22 week vacation to fort benning in a month wish me luck
Great Video man! You definitely hit on some good points for sure! The Military is not for everyone and from what I've seen the ones that hated the Marine Corps were the ones that joined without really preparing for what life is like in the Military. At the end of the day its what you make of it. Sure, you'll have many difficult days and many days where you want to quit, but its in those tough times that you can really teach yourself to embrace the suck. That skill alone will benefit you tremendously when you decide to leave the military!
you have the Circle A patch on your wall, 3rd Army, my Combat Patch earned in Somalia 1993, Patton's Army, I am very proud of earning that patch til this day, and was my combat patch of choice when I served.
I agree and disagree with joining to get away from problems. I agree if it's short term it's probably not a great idea but in my case, I joined because I didnt like the idea of my single parent(who btw was already struggling to pay the bills) paying for my tuition when I didnt care about school. Here I am 4 years later in my last semester of undergrad without my parent's help. I'll admit that the military isnt for everyone but definitely consider the circumstance behind it before joining.
MadWolf1980xxx and they were launched by Iraqis because we refuse to leave their country. So again, not gonna invade Iran unless neocons start pushing hard, but we might have a third Iraq war
I think something people should consider are the length of deployments. The Army tends to have long deployments (12-14 months even) while the Marines have short deployments (4-6 months). A camp (USMC) is a short term stay compared to a fort (Army). If you're choosing between infantry for Army or Marines, think about the deployment lengths. Also realize that the Army is huge compared to the Marines, so if you go infantry in the Marines you'll most likely see combat, while a lot of Army infantry guys that I know never got sent to Iraq or Afghanistan; but national guard infantry guys that I know got deployed to the front lines in Afghanistan. Just something to think about.
Bro to be honest I just don't know what to do in life. I just graduated two month ago enlisted fresh out of highschool. I just want to start a new life
Look served 8 years active duty, and the only reason I joined was to get away from my dying father my overbearing mother and to see the world. Went to Iraq Korea and Afghanistan. Best choice of my life.
Back in 2000 I tried joining the military and thru 2 dep enlistments I was discharged because I didn’t have my diploma. But my main reason for going was the lifestyle that it provides and the structure that is there. When I tried in December ‘01 I had a bad headache and ended up in the hospital. They discharged me with an re3. I kept trying for another 7 years but had no luck in joining.
Bro i was going around to some tech schools for Aircraft Maintenance to study, then went to Air Force and that’s literally the jobs they need people in most. So now I’m planning on joining.
I left for Fort Sill November 7th 1990. 13M MLRS. Separated October ‘94. Watching this and wondering where the past 26 years has gone. Good luck to all you who recently headed to basic or those of you heading out soon 👍
Valid valid points in my cast what about if I don’t know what I want to do at this point in my life and want something different and maybe become an independent person
@@ceonate9456 Construction did it for me. Independence comes from you, the military only draws it out of you. Talk to a recruiter today (depending on the time where you live), take actual steps towards it and see how that feels.
Dont sign any contracts! See if they have an RSP(Recruit Sustainment Program) near you. If gives you a small glimpse of being a soldier. If that lifestyle is not for you, I recommend against it. If you like it and you're there just to try something new perhaps a short contract with the guard is the best bet for you. After that, which I'm sure the answer is obvious, if you still like it, extend your contract or if you dont, leave the military and keep trying new things.
I was Navy myself a Gunners Mate Guns, I would advise those who maybe on the fence about which branch to join or not join, if you have a problem being wet, cold, hot, don't like ships, the ocean, salt water, and the idea of being deployed at sea, you may want to refrain from joining the Navy, the Marine Corps, and the Coast Guard.
The military pretty much sucks. I was an airborne infantryman for several years and was honorably discharged. I can say it was one of the least satisfying and most demeaning experiences of my life. Rewards such as promotions and medals aren't given based on experience or performance, but according to gender and how good one is at making others look good. I earned a perfect PT (fitness test) score the whole time I was in. I was The soldier of the quarter for the entire U.S. Army Europe. I had combat deployments. People in my chain of command held these things against me and I wasn't the only one. Thjere's a reason why so few people reenlist. When I first joined the food was ok, but then they turned it into Macdonand's. The whole environment became toxic with everyone afraid to speak any kind of truth for fear of offending someone and having their career destroyed. They often punish you emotionally and physically just because they don't like you personally. There is no trust. No cameradery, no honor. To put it more clearly, It sucks in pretty much every way. DON'T DO IT!!!
I’ve always wanted to join the army since I was a kid, i never knew why? I guess I just thought it was cool and I could be helping the world. The more I grow up the more i want to join! And yet i don’t have an exact reason why? I know I wanna help my country, i know I wanna make sure my family will be safe and I personally am obsessed with this kind of field and it first started out with me wanting to become an fbi agent or police officer..? The more I think about it the more I wonder am I even qualified to start a dream i had since a kid? And I’m always been so interested in joining! For awhile I’ve been like needing good in my life..So this video honestly opened a lot of thoughts! Thank you.
@@ethannavarre-cantrell6748 yeah, no doubt. I didn't mean everybody. But there are A LOT of people that didn't take the college or entrepreneurial route after Highschool.
Brings me back to the point of doing a job you WANT to do versus joining specifically for the money. If that's your driving reason, I'm just saying you are likely to be unhappy.
@@MadWolf1980xxx id actually like to amend my earlier stantment. Thou I can agree that not everyone takes the college or the entrepreneurial route after highschool, that doesn't mean they are stuck working minimum wage jobs or going to college. There are people who sole job is to be someone's assistant and a lot of those jobs pay more then the minimum wage.then you have actors, singers, etc. not all of them need college or entrepreneurial skills to make a living in the world. And I'll even go a step further with that, the American Actor Chris Pratt. He grew up in Washington. State and has said he spent most of his time after highschool living out of a van in Hawaii working at restaurants to afford the necessities.
I joined the Army in 1973, they had the draft and it got close to my birthday so I joined instead, and my dad could not believe it. I was born at Camp Roberts, Ca. in 1953 and my dad was the company commander for basic training. I grew up as an Army brat and knew what I was getting into. Everything is true what Matt says. I went in fat and hated to run, they made me a road-guard and I could not do pushups, so they had me do sit-ups and I also all the road-guards had to run with the drill instructors at nighttime.
@1:36 *Deployments: Keep in mind that the Army has the longest deployments of all the branches* . You might think the Marines, since they have the reputation of being the toughest branch, would have the longest deployments but it is actually the Army. Most Army deployments are 9-12 months (down from like 15 months during the height of the Iraq/Afghanistan wars). Marines maybe do like 7 months. Air Force (arguably the wisest choice to join) may do 3 to 6 months 9-12 months is a lot of time for stuff to happen. If you have something happen like a grandparent dying then you might be out of luck on being allowed to come back for the funeral, same with other things. Stuff anyone looking to join the military might want to think about before joining the Army.
If you don't like having multiple bosses that can force, you to do push-ups and other exercises, boot camp style, long after bootcamp if they feel you didn't properly respect their authority.
What a difference 23 years makes. I joined in June of 2000 a few days after high school. With the exception of the reason not to join because of marriage ( I wasn't in a relationship), all the reasons you gave for not joining the Army are why I joined. What's the point of joining if you don't want to deploy? I deployed twice AND went to Korea for a year and a half. All in 8 years. If you're scared of hard work and getting your hands dirty, go get a desk job then.
I’m considering joining because I’m just super bored and disappointed with what my life is. I’m not trying to get away from anything or anybody I just want excitement of some kind. Could that be a bad reason?
Been doing insanity to lose weight to get in lose 43lbs so far and 12% body fat I’ve got 9% body fat to go started at 287 now I’m 244 should be ready by April
Carson Barrett do insanity you can sub to beach body .com $30 for 3 months it’s a 60 day program follow the diet and workout schedule and you will see results promise but it’s the hardest workout you’ll ever do watch the infomercial on it
You know this is so true about me i can relate to the fifth reason joining for the money i learn a lesson about that and know i prefer to do jobs that better suit me and feel confortable with it than for the money im actually considering telling my dad i dont want to join the national guard
Listen to this man, joined for the wrong reason and now I feel stuck. It's right for some people, for others not so much. I'm trying to get out but definitely take your time and make sure you know what the hell you're doing.
Even if you joined for the wrong reasons, you can still make the most of it by either taking classes for college, learning about trades, or perhaps even cross train while you're still in. Take advantage of your opportunities while they're available and perhaps it will help you to become unstuck.
Thank you for these videos, I have 2 kids and a wife I go to talk to my recruiter this Tuesday. I feel like the money one you possibly noted out kinda applies aside from I'm hoping not only for the pay but to make something my kids and wife can be proud off. Hey matt your videos have helped me out a lot! With how I’ve been so curious about basic and the ups and down with the army, the army is something that is a must for me haha
Eh, considered as my great grandfather was in the Coast Guard, grandfather was in WWII and Korea as a Marine, and my fater was in the Air Force. Took the ASVAB at almost perfect score and has MULTIPLE recruiters at the house. SERIOUSLY considered it. The whole brainwashing into "my way or the highway" mindset steered me away. I'm ok with following orders. If a CO says run towards them and shoot and I know we are probably gonna die, I'm gonna say "no, let's figure out a better solution." That doesn't fly in the military and I said no thank you.

You did good. Best wishes.

I think a lot of people do it to get away, but not necessarily from a temporary situation, but from a long term situation like not having enough money or being stuck in their home town and not knowing anything about the world.
Bro same, I feel you🔥🔥
Great answer. It's my reasoning for wanting to join too.
Going through this exact same thing right now
For number 3, I wouldn’t say getting away from your situation is a reason not to join, if anything it’s more incentive to join.
My reasons are (in no particular order):

Best decision ever.
if you wouldn’t mind, I would love to pick your brain if you live near Ohio. I love hearing pilot stories first hand.
Also if anyone is curious, I want to join the Marines.
Having to get away can be a solid reason if you think it through and understand the changes your life is going to go through, I joined a few years back to “get away” so to speak and to better myself and it was the best decision I’ve made

Most buff people struggle heavily with running so if you heavily insist on being buff, balance that with being good at running because more muscle mass means being heavier for your legs.

ONLY join the military if these 2 things apply to you:

That’s a big thing I see, and if you can’t deal with that type of bs, don’t join.

I bet you could end up quite wealthy with proper investing, just keep a little and invest most of the extra money.
This is the comment I was looking for I have a wife and 2 kids I’m 23. Would you say joining would be wise ?
My husband is in the air force and it's not like we're wealthy.. but at least we arent living in our car anymore
it's also good that apparently air force might be better for married service members since not only are deployments much shorter but also there is no month away out in the field like army.
Supposedly lots of people in the air force even get to do their own PT, which would mean no 0600 formations which would mean the member would get a few hours more at home.
I'm joining no matter what, I dedicated my life to this and I don't plan on turning back.
Here's a video idea...."Top duty stations you dont wanna get stationed at"
This video was too late for me lol. I ship out tomorrow to Fort Lost in the Woods as a 31B and I got the extra long training.
Good luck Nova, I go in May

Did the OSUT for 31B get extended as well?

As a veteran I tell you my biggest reason for telling you not to join the military TOXIC LEADERSHIP EVERYWHERE YOU GO there always going to be a clown in charge of you, there's always one I mean everywhere you go every unit, every post, it never fails
Well, you'll have the same in the civilian world as well. Don't say you can rectify that by getting a new job. Job searches can take months or even years in the civilian world.
Leaving a week from today for Fort Leonard Wood as a 35P! Nervous but excited and I’ve been binging your videos all month!
The Caroland Crew Good luck you got this!!
Leaving in a week for fort Leonard wood also as a 68c!!

Super motivated and determined to serve. These type of videos will not make me think twice. My minds made i leave next month.
*YOU ARE SUPER BRAINWASHED. TELL ME THE NAME OF THE PERSON THAT WILL BE YOUR COMMANDER IN CHIEF.*

Thee Baptiste not yet.
I play cod mw daily
We’re waiting man a lot of us feel like the military will fill that void and ur our only inside man as of right now
Zachary Salas no. Even as I go through airborne school.
There was actually another rocket attack on the US embassy in Baghdad last night...
MadWolf1980xxx and they were launched by Iraqis because we refuse to leave their country. So again, not gonna invade Iran unless neocons start pushing hard, but we might have a third Iraq war
Yes but still, in my opinion, that should have no affect on your decision to join.
@@MattWard89 I totally agree Matt. In fact, times of conflict is when We should be most inspired to serve!
@@MattWard89 Yeah, even if you you join during peaceful times you need to be aware that war is always a possibility
Heard this too
Bro to be honest I just don't know what to do in life. I just graduated two month ago enlisted fresh out of highschool. I just want to start a new life
Look served 8 years active duty, and the only reason I joined was to get away from my dying father my overbearing mother and to see the world. Went to Iraq Korea and Afghanistan. Best choice of my life.
ANDREW MOXON 💯💯💯
Back in 2000 I tried joining the military and thru 2 dep enlistments I was discharged because I didn’t have my diploma. But my main reason for going was the lifestyle that it provides and the structure that is there. When I tried in December ‘01 I had a bad headache and ended up in the hospital. They discharged me with an re3. I kept trying for another 7 years but had no luck in joining.

I’m going to the military to help my family because they have been struggling a lot
Valid valid points in my cast what about if I don’t know what I want to do at this point in my life and want something different and maybe become an independent person
Get a warehouse job.
SilverDragonEyess definitely not
@@ceonate9456 Construction did it for me. Independence comes from you, the military only draws it out of you. Talk to a recruiter today (depending on the time where you live), take actual steps towards it and see how that feels.
Logan I have been talking to two recruiters active and the guards I’m thinking about just doing air national guard
I'm gonna try before I deny. Sorry.
Thank you.
Idk, a lot of people these days have to choose between Military, or a minimum wage job, living with parents. Anything's better than that! Lol.
With some creativity and sacrifices there are other options
@@ethannavarre-cantrell6748 yeah, no doubt. I didn't mean everybody. But there are A LOT of people that didn't take the college or entrepreneurial route after Highschool.
@@MadWolf1980xxx yes, this is true
Air Force (arguably the wisest choice to join) may do 3 to 6 months
9-12 months is a lot of time for stuff to happen.
One more year in my contract and I’m forever out
Do you not like it? What is your MoS
How was it?
What a difference 23 years makes. I joined in June of 2000 a few days after high school. With the exception of the reason not to join because of marriage ( I wasn't in a relationship), all the reasons you gave for not joining the Army are why I joined. What's the point of joining if you don't want to deploy? I deployed twice AND went to Korea for a year and a half. All in 8 years. If you're scared of hard work and getting your hands dirty, go get a desk job then.
Thank you for your service and yeah i think your absolutely right
I’m considering joining because I’m just super bored and disappointed with what my life is. I’m not trying to get away from anything or anybody I just want excitement of some kind. Could that be a bad reason?
I wanted to join the army, but I have asthma, minor hearing loss, easily getting sick, major allergies.
