I bought 10 copies of KISS "Music from the Elder" on the very first day. If they would have marketed the album correctly and made at least an animated movie to go with the soundtrack, KISS would have been close to the success that Pink Floyd had with "The Wall". {takes another toke} After listening to all 43 albums in the KISS discography, you will clearly come to the conclusion that after their debut album, "Music from the Elder" is their next biggest artistic accomplishment that went right over everybody's head.
The Elder came out when I was 15 years old, and I absolutely hated it! Now, over the years, as my musical taste has matured, I love this album so much! The same thing happened for me with Pink Floyd's The Final Cut....that is now my FAVORITE Pink Floyd album!
Such an underrated album in the KISS catalog! Love it from beginning to end. Such a stellar limited edition and thank you for sharing. Amazing episode as usual, "keep em spinning"
Hello Dylan ! This album is cool in so many ways. The main thing is KISS doing exactly what they wanted musically , expanding their range. I still play Elders very often , as it is such a cool theme album. Cheers bro !
I bought a copy with part of my annual bonus. I'm playing it right now. I can appreciate Gene's bass work on "Just A Boy". The bass and miidrange are more "present". The highs are rounded off a little. I hear more nuances, instruments that weren't as clear or uncovered as on the 1980s and 1997 CDs or the vinyl reissue on 180gm. It's a record you need to sit down and listen to, not have as background music to fully appreciate it.
Hey, great video. I know I'm late in commenting. Just want to let you know that the Australian album cover of The Elder is the regular picture of Paul's hand over the door. However, the picture on that German insert that has the Japanese album cover on the reverse side, is the insert that came inside the album and it is a tad smaller in size compared to the one in this video. Also the Australian 1981 original release came w/ a KISS army application form 👍🏻

Great album on a whole different creative level compared to all their other releases. Very ambitious and classy production that proved they were so much more than a glam rock/hard rock band. I still have the original release vinyl that sounds awesome still to this day. Also got the remastered CD version which has a different song order that I still can’t get my head around. Yep, it’s supposed to be the proper story-centric running order, but for me the original release version is so much better as a listening experience. I also think it’s one of the best album covers ever made. Guess I’ll add this version to the collection too. Masterpiece!
I've adored The Elder ever since Christmas of 1981. My only complaint (now and then) is that it contained no band photos. PS- I always thought that they should have printed a limited run of 100 special edition Elder CDs with an actual door knocker protruding from the front ( scaled down to fit CD size of course)
I think Casablanca screwed up when they fiddled with the track listing. I heard the cd in 2008 and was, other than the running order, highly impressed that they could have even tried an album like this.
Half speed masters are a bit of snake oil from record companies I did research on UA-cam from people in the music business like producers engineers sound people mainly because I was going to start buying them but they sound no better even worse than normal pressings and that’s why so many people are complaining about the rolling stones ones that were done at Abbey road studio’s so I wouldn’t invest big dollars that get bad reviews
Are these releases so special? I don't like these non-nazi Kiss logo ones. Looks so unofficial. Didn't this German one have a release in 2014 as well, only it was black vinyl? Are they cut from the same digital master? Who cut the lacquer this time? Or is it the same metal work as from the 2014 one?

I actually just listened to some of this record. Surprise! Still sucks! I liked kiss when they were a rock band I think their first four records really rocked especially Dressed to Kill. Destroyer really broke them but I think musically that was the end. I'd call it an over produced mess. Their setlists over the last forty nine years really bear me out.
Underrated lp. Certainly one of their more creative & melodic efforts. Unfortunately proggy fantasy epics were not what most Kiss fans wanted in 1981.
The Elder Rulz. Fantastic album. So many great riffs and solo's. Ace's solo on Dark Light is just outstanding. Love Music From The Elder.

I first got it in 1988 at an out if print record store. On first listen my friends and i were so shocked that we dubbed it " Music From The Elderly".
