You could combine the three wagons to make some sort of work wagon with a box, a coal wagon, and a tanker.

    I. Am. Ec. STATIC! I am SO excited for the review on the Lord Nelson! You don't see it with no wind deflectors very often so it's a sight to behold! As for the Schools Class, It's alright but it's not my favourite. I'm excited to see these run around your track along with your wagons!

    • @SamsTrains

haha thank you!! So am I - really looking forward to doing that one - and I agree, pretty cool to see them without the deflectors!

Sam, there's special NEM pockets by Märklin that you can get with a hole for a screw, these are designed for fitting on custom builds or the like. You could look into them for the oddball wagons. The serial number is 288390 and they're availible on ebay.

    • @SamsTrains

      Ooh really? That's very interesting indeed - I didn't know that! :O

The "Hornby-Dublo" couplings are actually Peco couplings, which Hornby used under licence - they're still in production now.
As for the wagons you have, I'd suggest either changing one coupling each on two of them, or if it's easier putting the peco couplers on two other wagons, to let you run any other wagons you pick up with the same coupling with the rest of your stock.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  5 років тому

I didn't know they were still used - very interesting! Yes that'd be a good call, I'd like to have a converter wagon or two!

If you don't want to swap the couplings out on those wagons, you could use them as background pieces in a video (ex: have them be in a siding with a shunter in front of them, or by themselves). For the tanker you could make it look like a wreck, perhaps also in the background.

    • @SamsTrains

Oh my my, a Schools class in Malachite, I haven't seen a super-detailed version of that in ages!
Also, for that Lima/Dublo coal wagon, if you strip it of it's undercarriage/frames, it could serve as a coal staithe for a coal merchant or something along those lines.

I have 3 options; The first is to take the wheels off of one of the other ones and put on the wagon that has none. The second one is to take the couplings off the wagon with no wheels and add it to the one that doesn’t. Final option use them for any other maintenance.

They are some good offers. I managed to pick up a brand new radial tank form Hornby directly for just £50 at The Great Dorset Steam Fair. With those wagons, you could do video where you weather them up, making them look rusty and abandoned and put them on the track side.

As you may or may not know, because you're across the pond, Lionel has started producing HO scale train sets in the States again. With the 3 Lima wagons you could use the coal wagon/open wagon as a coal staith where you take the body off from the chassis Remove a door dirty it down put some coal in it and plant next to a siding and you then have a coaling point for steam locomotives and with the tank wagon again take off the chassis dirty it down and you can add a hose for a diesel refuelling point.

I kept thinking the coupling is next to you and lo and behold you eventually found it. Just been to a train fair myself and got a couple of locos and some wagons, nice buy with the Schools class. Are those Peco wagons with simplex couplings they look a bit new for Dublo, sure they could be used some how either by changing the couplings or as static display in an unused siding. You must have some spare wheels for the missing ones somewhere.

    • @SamsTrains

The boring option to do with the wagons with the Hornby Dublo couplings would be to make one into a conversion wagon so you could mix and match that style of coupling in case you ever got any more or a Hornby Dublo loco.

11:41 I have a funny story about prices and SR 851...
A while ago, my dad was having a look through Model Railways Direct, looking for bargains, when he gasped really loudly and asked for me to come ASAP. I ran downstairs thinking something bad had happened, then he shows me his iPad screen- Lord Nelson class no. 851 'Sir Francis Drake', on sale...for £9.20!!!! Obviously we paid for it, and MRD confirmed the order and took our money. However, the following day, we got an email saying that the website was wrong and they were on sale at full RRP, and refunded us our £9.20. So close, yet so far, to getting the bargain of a century!

There's two Hornby sets available with a U.S. plug, usually can find them at TrainWorld or Amazon. There's several UK model shops that also will send items to the U.S... I've ordered from four different shops in the past month and have already received my items.
