Ah, Captain Haddock, that brings back childhood memories of Hergé adventures of Tintin. Great looking watch. Now which of my too many watches is going to walk the plank so I can have Captain Haddock as an accomplice in my everyday adventures? 😀
Thank you for the review Jody! We loved it and we're glad you liked the Marinor. As you mentioned, the lume will definitely be bumped up for the production pieces!
I love the watch, I´ll recomend to make the North Star smaller (just make skeletoned draw lines), crashes with your heron bird logo, and makes this part of dial very bussy and confussing by design (two logos?). Good luck!
You have a good start for sure... I would like to see some better quality in the star at 12... (you can see the quality is not great in 6:33)….. And second beware of the lume applied on bezel 7:07... Other than that great watch
Just looking at the crystal and bezel I like it already. I dont think most people realize how a boxed crystal can prevent scratches. Perfect dimensions too.
Love it all, including the dial and that 12 marker. Beautiful. The caseback is almost good enough to be on the front, and reminded of many years ago when my granddad used to buy "Fishermans Friend" strong cough drops in those old tin boxes with the trawler and fisherman with his pipe on the lid. He kept all the boxes to keep bits and bobs in. Brought back good memories!
Captain Haddock is a referance to the salty seafaring sailor from the cartoon Tintin by Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi, who wrote under the pen name Hergé. The cartoon has been translated into 70 languages; I grew up with the Norwegian translation, from the Danish, where Capt Haddock would swear in alliterations. Definatively will take a closer look.
Really like it tho wish it was a little bit bigger but apart from that it’s great . Got a great deal on it too as they wavered the VAT and import duty too .
Wow, I saw this 5 days ago for the first time, I was instantly interested and here you are already reviewing it!!! Thank you so much for always providing us with such great content!
It reminds me of my RLG odyssea. Same movement, same dimensions, same crown minus the crown, guards same bezel insert, and same clasp… I’m not knocking the watch at all. The watch I have is one of my most worn watches, and is no longer available…. I think they nailed it with this one.!
A really nice watch for the price. The competition of the bird logo with the North Star marker would be made better with just the wordmark and the marker. Still, looks like a great option!
I completely agree with virtually all your observations and assessment on this one. That doesn't often happen in reviews. That said, I'm not sure I'm that enamoured by the pole star, almost kissed by the heron logo, but I do appreciate both shapes as execution. One thing you didn't mention that looked, oddly, particularly good to my eye, is the side profile of the knurling on the bezek and with that how the dome of the crystal transitions to the bubble of the insert, and turns down to the knurling. For me, arguably, a standout conjunction on this watch.
I really like everything about this Watch. The name, logo and North Star especially.Might be the best looking new watch I’ve seen in a bit.Definitely better than that BP/Swatch thing.I can’t think of any Micro brands that have wowed me like this since Baltic,Lorier,Traska and Brew.
I like it Jody, a lot. And the one they sent you is the business because that blue is stunning. The bezel totally defines the watch and Heron have made something a wee bit special here. My only gripe is the imagery - I'd lose the caseback engraving and whatever is on the crown. Other than that the watch looks fantastic
It took my a while to figure out that the Captain Pugwash theme was playing in the background during the watch specs, but I'm glad it was on your video and I wasn't having some kind of stroke...
It's a nice watch; I think the reviewed color is the nicest of the lot. Not usually a fan of fume dials (there is usually too much "fume" and not enough base color), but this one is gorgeous. Wish it was just a little bigger; 41 - 43mm would be perfect (for me anyway!)
To me, the best things about the watch are the North Star and the Heron logo. Those are what set this apart from the countless dive watches with a triangle and a bit of text. Seems like a lot of commenters disagree, but hey, that’s why there are different watches in the world. I think they add a little fun while staying somewhat subdued. It’s not like a Timex with Snoopy (which I’m sure is someone’s grail watch… just not mine). I also kinda like the Gladiateur, at least in silver.
I like these. The stylised heron is neat, and the north star reference is clever. I agree that the core colourways are the most cohesive. Although the price for Aussies is pretty high for a micro. Our dollar is more the problem than the watch, I guess.
Great looking vintage leaning diver. Appreciate the sub 13mm w crystal. I can’t help but feel it’s a tough market in which to stand out, this is a good effort.
Jody, I'm very glad you and I both have 7 inch wrists. I don't have to imagine what it might look like on me. Congrats on your new watch as well, man. I'm not a huge dive watch guy (I've got my SD Willard and Duro and that's pretty good for me, I think), but yours is definitely one of the more appealing I've seen in some time!
Yeah I really was never planning to buy that swatch happy meal toy with no hacking seconds. Really a nice looking watch. Maybe will give it a go after it actually goes on sale ( I don’t deal with kickstarter )
Great review, as always Jody! I really do like this one. Really dig the case back, as well as the North star marker at 12. I think they have a winner here, especially if they tone down on the different color options. I have a couple watches with sapphire bezel insert, none though with that bubble look of the 50 Fathoms. I hear you too, $435 on a Captain Haddock??? How about, over a grand on a Captain Cook lol. Strange how one sounds normal, the other, not so much. Thanks again JOMW.
Somehow not heard of Heron before and the quick side by side with Le Gladiateur had me ignoring Jody's opinion and looking for it. I much prefer it and the icing on the cake is the Romans on the bezel with a correct IV not IIII. Make a great dress diver (!#?) but it is almost $500.
Almost skipped this because it looked like another in the endless stream of boring, nearly identical Seiko/Submariner clones. Glad I watched this one. Very nice looking watch made special by some original touches and nice finish and features.
For the same cash I’d have the Lorier Neptune, that North Star isn’t my cup of tea. You actually got a sale of an origin because they didn’t have any in stock at the time of your release and when I was looking. 😄
I really like it.... At the kick starter prices! The one you have there is very nice! I wouldn't buy it for the regular $600+ price and I'm not ready to buy another watch till at least Christmas. This one isn't going to do that well long-term for more than $500, IMO. I think they messed up.
Hmmm nice watch too expensive for me .. the colours they’re offering are quite ok but obviously they don’t all suit those who prefer bright orange dials.
I like it a lot and the comparison to the Swiss collaboration makes it even more compelling but with the recent flood of micro dive watches i have to be selective. Damn it 😖
Great new Erebus watches Jody!!!!!! Great specs for the price. They look fantastic!!!! Many blessings for success! I am sure they will be a big hit!!!!!!! Yours is much nicer than this!
A dive watch has to be pretty special these days. The case, bezel and coating are good. The explosion at 12, the Heron and no date is enough to exclude it.
Which Blue is the right blue? It seems there is more of a baby blueish color way on the wood shot but on the wrist shots a deeper blue. I’m confused?????
The case back has those triangles in between the specs but they don't all line up with the removal notches. It seems like thats what they tried to do but it somehow shifted.
Good looking watch. On the fence re the star marker at 12. I’d be buying in black or blue- some of the many colour choices on offer ,including the teal one in this review just seem a bit strange. Sometimes less is more!
Billions of blue blistering barnacles, Jody - I’d rather have a Paptain Haddock than a Captain Morgan. (Though Tintin fans will know that Captane Haddock would probably rather have the rum.) 😂
Nice at the pre-launch price; but at over $600 just another microbrand in a crowded field. I wonder how much they could save w/o the silly captain engraved on the back?
Have to say, all these unknown micro-brands promoting themselves don't grab me, and don't keep my attention until the end of the video - sorry Jody. Just some feedback, apart from this I absolutely love your channel 🧡! Cheers!
As always a great review Jody, however for me the mashup of 50/60' cues coupled with the 12 o'clock do not convince me. I disagree that the watch has an individual approach. A shame given the quality approach.
It seems good on paper. I would be tempted if needed a dive watch, I have 3 already and one does have a Miyota 9000 series movement. Jody, how is your pre-launch going on your own watches? Just curious.
After a year and a half wait, I finally got my Helm Miyako....another obvious Blancpain emulator. Love it....but not sure I need a second one. Such is the way of the microbrand dive watch. In the end, they all look like something else, and all seem the same in the end?
This has a strange affect on me - initially like the hands and the 12oclock whatever.... until Jody turned the lights off when I really liked the dominant minute hand and small hour triangle but the 12oclock splodge looked to me like something a passing Heron dropped
I really dislike the star at 12, it lacks the refinement of the rest of the piece and feels out of place. For me it is one of those ideas that sounds nice in the concept phase and maybe even into prototype 1… then once you see it on the dial you move on from it.
Absolutely LOVE the fifty fathoms bubble insert and so many other aspects of this watch. I just can't get past the color. I love gilted dials as well, and even those...I can't. However, it does make me wonder what your thoughts on the Borealis FF homage are. It's definitely on my homage wishlist. 💪
This in a more classical size, exclude the logo on the dial, swap the movement out for something other than Miyota, drop the Kickstarter campaign bs and early-bird hype, and it would have been a very tempting offering. Unfortunately this is instead a nice looking watch with a bunch of deal-breakers. Close, but no cigar. Maybe after the next quantum-leap.
This is noce, but, I'm kinda gettin' tired of microbrands. I mean, I shopped, purchased and built my own watch with a stunningly accurate NH35, for just under 300 bucks. I didn't have to compromise or accept what was given. No waiting in a queue either. 😂
Ah, Captain Haddock, that brings back childhood memories of Hergé adventures of Tintin. Great looking watch. Now which of my too many watches is going to walk the plank so I can have Captain Haddock as an accomplice in my everyday adventures? 😀

Really nice
Very nice watch; lovely work on getting the fume dial just right. I hope the next iteration is a couple mm larger in diameter.... please!🙂🙂
You have a good start for sure... I would like to see some better quality in the star at 12... (you can see the quality is not great in 6:33)….. And second beware of the lume applied on bezel 7:07... Other than that great watch
That blue version does look good
Just looking at the crystal and bezel I like it already. I dont think most people realize how a boxed crystal can prevent scratches. Perfect dimensions too.

Damn! I wanted to hate it but it's a beauty. What a colour! That is great!
Literally just ordered one of these in Atlantic blue , can’t wait for it to arrive and it even comes with a free NATO strap .
What do you think of the watch?
Really like it tho wish it was a little bit bigger but apart from that it’s great . Got a great deal on it too as they wavered the VAT and import duty too .
Wow, I saw this 5 days ago for the first time, I was instantly interested and here you are already reviewing it!!! Thank you so much for always providing us with such great content!
The old sea captains who smoked pipes always wore wristwatches with high water resistance
It reminds me of my RLG odyssea. Same movement, same dimensions, same crown minus the crown, guards same bezel insert, and same clasp… I’m not knocking the watch at all. The watch I have is one of my most worn watches, and is no longer available…. I think they nailed it with this one.!

Yeah, that is one hell of an attractive watch. Exactly the right amount of vintage charm but with it's own spin and classy identity.
I like it! Those squared, articulating-in-one-direction bracelet links look a lot like the ones on my Lorier Falcon v2.
Beautiful watch. Loved the dial and crown color of the watch you displayed Jody.
I really like the color you reviewed-Beautiful watch!!
Jody: "Hallooo and welcome..."
My wife: "NO! You're not getting another watch!"
It's a real beauty, I love it! I could have been perfect with drilled lugs and no crown guard.
Killer Watch!!! Looks like a $1000 watch. Good styling. Love the North Star. Cheers.
Dang. I love it. And hardening too! What's not to like about this one?
It's a nice watch; I think the reviewed color is the nicest of the lot. Not usually a fan of fume dials (there is usually too much "fume" and not enough base color), but this one is gorgeous. Wish it was just a little bigger; 41 - 43mm would be perfect (for me anyway!)

I also kinda like the Gladiateur, at least in silver.
Why did the caseback remind me of the Go To Jail square on a Monopoly board?
I like this watch. The North Star is instantly recognized to my eyes. Thanks Jody!

Really a nice looking watch. Maybe will give it a go after it actually goes on sale ( I don’t deal with kickstarter )
Like the movement, color, dial, and bezel. Don't like the hideous 12 o'clock marker (ditch it) or that arrow hour hand. Thanks Jody.
Great review, as always Jody! I really do like this one. Really dig the case back, as well as the North star marker at 12. I think they have a winner here, especially if they tone down on the different color options. I have a couple watches with sapphire bezel insert, none though with that bubble look of the 50 Fathoms. Love that shirt! Fellow Formula 1 and watch fanatic here.
I agree. Much better than the Swatch. The only thing I don't look is that star at 12 o'clock.
Very good effort, love the colour, think the hour hand needs to be longer, but that’s very minor.
This looks gorgeous! I'm going to have to talk myself out of buying this one.
It made me smile, if they sort the lume I think it'll be a winner....🏴⌚🏴⌚
I really like it.... At the kick starter prices! The one you have there is very nice! I wouldn't buy it for the regular $600+ price and I'm not ready to buy another watch till at least Christmas. This one isn't going to do that well long-term for more than $500, IMO. I think they messed up.
Montréal dans la place! I wouldn't mind the Capitaine Haddock; tonerre de Brest!
I was convinced for a second that that song was gonna be playing for the rest of the video LOL
I think it has to be on a sail cloth strap to really capture the vibe of the Blanc Pain.
Very cool, definitely a better value for money compared to the Blancpain x Swatch. I already bought an Erebus, so no more divers for me 😂
How does it compare vs the Erebus Origin? This one looks quite nice.
Damn it 😖
Very nice. I’m sure they will do well. Yeah 21 variations seem too much. Thanks for the great review!
very nice specs for the price so thanks for sharing Jody ❤
Great new Erebus watches Jody!!!!!! Great specs for the price. They look fantastic!!!! Many blessings for success! I am sure they will be a big hit!!!!!!! Yours is much nicer than this!
That is beyond beautiful
The looks on this one is 🔥
Oh Canada! What a lovely watch.
I approve of the case back!
A dive watch has to be pretty special these days. The case, bezel and coating are good. The explosion at 12, the Heron and no date is enough to exclude it.
Is the bracelet a hair puller? Good job Héron
Great looking watch and very retro
Which Blue is the right blue? It seems there is more of a baby blueish color way on the wood shot but on the wrist shots a deeper blue. I’m confused?????
Looks great I like this one
The case back has those triangles in between the specs but they don't all line up with the removal notches. It seems like thats what they tried to do but it somehow shifted.
Good looking watch. On the fence re the star marker at 12. I’d be buying in black or blue- some of the many colour choices on offer ,including the teal one in this review just seem a bit strange. Sometimes less is more!
Hey Jodie, thanks for introducing us to new micro-brands! I would love to see your take on Lorier!
Anyone know where I can actually view the watches?? All I can access is the one image on their kickstarter page?
Billions of blue blistering barnacles, Jody - I’d rather have a Paptain Haddock than a Captain Morgan. (Though Tintin fans will know that Captane Haddock would probably rather have the rum.) 😂
I like this bracelet look like
Just wondering what's your opinion on the seiko SRPK13K 😅 I purchased one
Interesting looking watch. I know not everyone agrees, but I always prefer a date complication. Excellent review as usual!
I can't believe they did... 20?
... variants but didn't include any with a date. Not for me.
Nice at the pre-launch price; but at over $600 just another microbrand in a crowded field.
I wonder how much they could save w/o the silly captain engraved on the back?
How does the finishing compare to something like Cronos?
Have to say, all these unknown micro-brands promoting themselves don't grab me, and don't keep my attention until the end of the video - sorry Jody. Just some feedback, apart from this I absolutely love your channel 🧡! Cheers!
As always a great review Jody, however for me the mashup of 50/60' cues coupled with the 12 o'clock do not convince me. I disagree that the watch has an individual approach. A shame given the quality approach.
I didn't even know about the Blankpain X Swatch collab before today.
Beautiful watch ..
I AGREE 1000% WITH THIS REVIEW
Good review, and I like the old style, but they have to do better with the lume, and I agree the some of those color combos are too much
I loved !!
It seems good on paper. I would be tempted if needed a dive watch, I have 3 already and one does have a Miyota 9000 series movement. Jody, how is your pre-launch going on your own watches? Just curious.
Jodi, where can i Get that shirt. Hugh F1 fan. I'm in Auston, TX for the race tomorrow. Love that Heron too. I bought your Erebus Origin. Cant wait.
Nice competitor for the Lorier version
It's beautiful what a time to be into watches
Love the shirt
Nice! IMO though, your Erebus is nicer
After a year and a half wait, I finally got my Helm Miyako....another obvious Blancpain emulator. Love it....but not sure I need a second one.
Such is the way of the microbrand dive watch. In the end, they all look like something else, and all seem the same in the end?
A welcome return of Captain Birdseye.
Nice. Looks good..
This has a strange affect on me - initially like the hands and the 12oclock whatever.... until Jody turned the lights off when I really liked the dominant minute hand and small hour triangle but the 12oclock splodge looked to me like something a passing Heron dropped
Blistering barnacles, what a great nod to TinTin with the Captain Haddock.....
It's a beautiful!
I like it overall, but the North Star marker is a bit too much for me. It actually reminds me of a comic book element.
Too large IMO
It looks like a seagull has shat on it to me.
I really dislike the star at 12, it lacks the refinement of the rest of the piece and feels out of place. For me it is one of those ideas that sounds nice in the concept phase and maybe even into prototype 1… then once you see it on the dial you move on from it.
We progress so much now that the star logo are more associated to comic book lol.
Love the star but it 100% should not have an outline around it
How are the erebus pre-orders going?
I gotta be honest here. At first I thought that 12 o'clock marker was a bird shit in keeping with the theme 😆
Same here 😂
Absolutely LOVE the fifty fathoms bubble insert and so many other aspects of this watch. I just can't get past the color. I love gilted dials as well, and even those...I can't. However, it does make me wonder what your thoughts on the Borealis FF homage are. It's definitely on my homage wishlist. 💪
I think his made a video about the borealis
Captain Haddock - absolute lolz
I just wish it was bigger!
I think the star at 12 0/c makes it look a bit 'Christmassy', otherwise looks really nice.
