I'm not saying you should go out and do it, but for us it worked just fine. Not gonna lie, we were both a bit nervous to try it, but I have read of people doing it with no problem. With that said, I would suggest you take the spring out properly and do it that way, at least for the first cut.
I love your work and your beautiful car. I have a 1976 that I want to restore and watching your video really gets the juices flowing. Thank you for the inspiration!
Hey. it's your car. Do what you like. I had an E3 years ago, brilliant car. If you found one that still has floors and door sills, all the better. Keep 'em on the road. E3s forever!
I actually am an engineer, and I will say the following (without the harsh attitude)... Cutting springs is not a good idea. It's not like the car is going to go skipping down the road and off a cliff the second you drive it, but it definitely can cause erratic handling and problems. Thats being nice about it. Personally, I would never do it. Putting looks in front of handling and safety is just a dumb idea. I favor my life more than the looks of my cars, thank you very much.
I can't say much about the spring chopping, because I'm neither a mechanic or engineer. Lovely car though, lovely stance and rims and great cinematography - this on my favourites now :)
I should've updated this a long time ago. The cut spring setup was very temporary, and Shea and I built a full custom air suspension setup a few months after releasing this video using Airlift universal struts and AccuAir e-Level management. It rides incredibly nice and is very reliable. To see a full article with amazing photos of how it sat on air suspension, click here: www.stanceworks.com/2013/08/shea-weidlers-1972-bmw-bavaria/
haha I'm well aware of how they feel about it. I saw the page it was posted on, and google translated it to english. I have no problem with people having a different opinion than me haha I know this isn't for everybody. Plus, I wouldn't really consider this "our idea of tuning", it's been stated numerous times that this is temporary and it will be getting a much better suspension setup very soon.
I just moved out here to Cali and am picking up my Bavaria ('72) in a week from Monday...Super excited and I may ask you for some advice on some things... would that be cool? Thanks!
Thanks, but StanceWorks posted it a few weeks ago, I know that. But randomly yesterday it got like 50k views and I have no idea how it got so many views so fast. It was at 35k earlier yesterday, now it's past 80k. It's overseas somewhere, people are getting really angry about temporarily cutting the springs haha.
Where are people watching this from nowadays? Noticed it's been getting a lot of views lately. Also noticed the car has been getting very negative feedback in the past day haha, cheer up guys if you read the description you'll learn that this is only temporary.
Also I got a front air dam from a csl so I’m gonna paint it orange and put the the four speed and the magnesium wheels on it and lower it hopefully once I’m done with it in like 3 years it looks good haha
I’ve just gotten 3 of those the nicest of the 3 is an auto it’s in need of one of the 3 4 speeds I have and i got a set of magnesium wheels just powder coated
Hey man I have a 1972 BMW 3.0 Bavaria 4 speed 4 door , just like your s I think right.. Was just asking what kind of spacers are thous cuz I have some wak ones that don't fit just right...plz get back to me yo!!
Just bought a bmw 1973 e3 3.0s automatic (meybe swap to manual) Granatrot metallic(red)!!! Have to admit this video made me do it XD Whats your wheel size ?
I used the original song and just cut out any part of the song that had the "smurf sound" haha, I didn't like it either. I just wanted a continuous play of the beat that I really like.
You are right, it's the worst of the works but...who cares about dynamics on a SHOW car like that? Specially if he wants to set the Air Ride system. However, it's beautiful. Great Vid.
Its an old bmw... I know so many people on cut springs that have had no issues. I am on cut srpings on my e28, and i cut way more than this dude with this beaut. Not everyone has the money or wants to spend the money on proper suspension to go low.
I'm not saying you should go out and do it, but for us it worked just fine. Not gonna lie, we were both a bit nervous to try it, but I have read of people doing it with no problem. With that said, I would suggest you take the spring out properly and do it that way, at least for the first cut.

Haha love this video. And the car. How dare 5 people dislike this!!!!
For spacers that big, look at adaptec adapters.
Awesome video
It's going to be on bags soon.

Is that a crack on the windshield? Fantastic edit / car btw
The camber in the rear wheels looks very off. Love these cars though. Had two of them.
up + fav.. You deserved that ;) Great car and great vid!
Okay Mr. Engineer
Nice Vid - I think I took a pic of your E3 at BimmerFest. Do you have "Mr Butta" on your rear plate?
Just what's stamped on them, Impul Silhouette.
The negative feedback is from polish haters who can't stand when someone has better car.
Really good video btw. This is a marvelous car, love it !
Beautifull car ! What is the specs of wheels ?
Two words: YES PLEASE :D
Hey man I have a 1972 BMW 3.0 Bavaria 4 speed 4 door , just like your s I think right.. Was just asking what kind of spacers are thous cuz I have some wak ones that don't fit just right...plz get back to me yo!!

Just bought a bmw 1973 e3 3.0s automatic (meybe swap to manual) Granatrot metallic(red)!!! Have to admit this video made me do it XD Whats your wheel size ?
so you can cut springs without taking them out of the strut?
could you advise the wheel spacer, wheel and tyre sizes? how many inches was it lowered?
I used the original song and just cut out any part of the song that had the "smurf sound" haha, I didn't like it either. I just wanted a continuous play of the beat that I really like.
You are right, it's the worst of the works but...who cares about dynamics on a SHOW car like that? Specially if he wants to set the Air Ride system.
However, it's beautiful. Great Vid.
Hey I am looking at a Bavaria and was wondering if u had any trouble with the wheels fitting and how big the spacers r
So, how much did you end up cutting out? A turn? two?

piękne BMW E3, a gość odpierdala takie gówno... chińskie dystanse i stare sprężyny ujebane flexem... no kurwa ręce opadają...
