Haha - I had a Toyota dealer 'lose' my keys before. Told the guy I was calling the cops & he pulled my keys out of his pocket & threw them at me.
lol wow that’s crazy
Our local Kia dealer wouldn't return the keys to my Honda that they were looking at as a trade in. That was it for me, never buying a Kia.
In 1976 I was selling Fords in North Hollywood CA. In the Friday sales meeting we were trained on bait and switch and the roof key toss 😂@@LuckyLopez777
Wow! What an ass!
I've had the same thing happen at a Chevrolet dealership.
I had a dealer do that "lost the key" trick. After an hour of him dicking me around with the price and REFUSE to give me my car back, I jumped on the counter and started SCREAMING to the customers in the showroom. I told the what was going on at the TOP of my voice. The sales mgr came out with my keys and threw them out the door and said "get out" I got off the counter and politely said "thank you" and left.. What a sorry dealership that was...
Chad move.
Happened to me once too. Until I "guaranteed" I would not be buying a car from them, stood up and waited until they "found" my keys after testing driving my car to see what they would offer me for it. Sleazy people in the auto world...right up there with politicians.
Last time i went looking , i brought my spare fob and they tried that trick..so i set the car alarm off my my spare fob. Car was behind service, Told them my keys had better be in my hand by the time i walk to my truck and i dont deal with liars. Got in my truck and drove away.
henderson hyundai suc. s. they wont even do warranty repair work half the time, nor do they even diagnose properly
@@baldisaerodynamic9692 What Hyundai and Kia dealerships are doing now is overfilling the engine with oil on engine warranty issues with oil consumption problems. Then after you drive it 1000 miles and bring it back for them to check, the oil is "level" after burning off the excess oil, so you see, no engine issue was found. Snakes...all of them.
I'd rather visit the dentist than a dealership.
You will lose more teeth visiting the car dealer.
destination fee is bullcrap
At least my dentist give me straight answers!
She is cute so yeah...
Dentists are actually worse than car salespeople. Folks just don't realize that, so it's often misunderstood.
A friend of mine had a car dealership hide his car while negotiating. He asked for his keys back, and they kept stalling, so he whipped his phone out and said he would call the police if they didn’t give his keys back now. They acted pretty quickly at that point, and needless to say, he didn’t guy from them. Disgusting tactics.
A GMC dealer did a similar thing to me about 7 years back--holding my keys hostage!
I worked in a dealership. It was very easy "Hi, how are you doing? If you need any info, just come look for me I'll be around here." I never pushed hard on clients.
And you were canned after one month…
@@FrunkensteinVonZipperneckthey gave him three and then averages his salsa and let him go per the law (I kid)
Buy a low mileage car used privately. Avoid the entire dealer experience, someone else took the depreciation. Save thousands.
Dealerships have been so dirty for so long that everybody knows it. As a result they are widely despised. And then dealerships wonder why doesn't anybody like us? So when they have trouble people just sit on the sidelines and cheer. The list of shady things dealerships do would mean your video would have to be several hours long
My grandfather owned an AMC/Jeep dealership in the 1970s through 1990s. I only visited it a few times as a child, but one thing he told me is that his sales staff will only ever sell a customer the first car. All other cars will be sold by the way people are treated in service.
Now my mother did work there as their accountant, and he would give her a demo car. On more than one occasion she would wake up or come home to find the car missing, her stuff in a pile in the driveway, and a note from my grandfather saying "I sold your car".
Huh.
Too funny.
A sale is a sale, lol.
I have adopted a new approach when trying to buy a vehicle that was advertised online. I make an OTD offer and have them accept it before I waste time coming in person, and I never trade a vehicle if possible.
I had a Kia Salesman come out of the Managers office and hand me a quote where they tried add $9k to the lease buyout on a Stinger. After telling him that I contacted Kia Corporate before coming in to confirm I was entitled to buy the car at the contracted residual he began arguing with me. So I started to put the quote in the folder I had with the paperwork and told him that I was going to show it to Kia Corporate. Then he actually grabbed my arm and tried to pull the quote out of my hand. I was 63 at the time and I'm partially paralyzed and wear leg braces that were visible with my shorts on. He was about 35, healthy and bigger than me. So my wife starts screaming as we are having a tug of war over the quote that he eventually won. I went to another Kia dealer and they honored the residual with no questions asked.
Should have sued
Wow, that's disgusting.
I am not a fan of Tesla but they have the right idea buying direct....No middle man required.
Direct sales works, but unfortunately, when you need service, it’s a pain in the butt. I have a buddy that lives in the Midwest. He’s got a tow his car 400 hundred miles to the closest Tesla dealership when it breaks down.
Worst is when manufacturers have a "build" section that let's you pick the color of the stitching but then always throw you back to an inventory page to pick between 5 black and 3 white cars with black plastic interior.
@@LuckyLopez777Meaning, if it breaks down. Teslas don't break down very often. They have a lot less parts to break.
Around the big cities, a Tesla mobile service tech can come to your home for most issues.
Maybe a better business model would be direct sales along with manufacturer certified service centers who can do maintenance, recall and warranty work.
@@LuckyLopez777Teslas don’t break down often bro they’re electric. Less parts
I live in New York and not only do the dealership suck but 90% of the businesses suck. Everybody’s throwing around money and not just the bitcoin Bros, all the restaurants suck all the delis are closing, and all the diners are closing and they just replacing them with McDonald’s. They could just serve you crap and the people still buy it, it’s amazing. So businesses don’t have to be good, they’re making their money anyway, until the inevitable recession and they’re all gonna go out of business and a few good businesses will survive and then the cycle starts all over again
Most Ballers on a budget they’ll be broke by the end of this year

Like Dunkin Donuts. The food is absolute crap and the coffee is crap unless you just get a black, plain, coffee. Not to mention its not cheap.
YET..... the drive through is always backed up onto the street around my area. Only the drivethrough..... as Americans we have gotten so lazy that most cant even be bothered to get out of there cars, but that is a different topic.
What Im saying is that people are still buying. I could put a Turd on a plate, put the starbucks name on it, charge $10, and people would buy it. I am not a sales person but I dont think I would have to work very hard to get the Average 25 year old American to buy a turd at a 20 percent interest rate as the cherry on top.
@@davids.9834 yes Dunkin’ Donuts is a good example
I was taken advantage of 7 years ago. And they even tried to come to my house a week after to change the contract. I will never buy from a dealership again.
12:00 Return of downpayment. The dealership sells you a car at 5.9% for 60 months. You drive off with the car. 5 days later they call you and tell you the financing "fell through" and you need to come back in and sign paperwork for a higher rate. If you try to give back the car, they say it is a used car and will credit you a low value and you owe the balance. If you refuse to sign a higher rate, they repossess the car. Apparently, a contract is a contract only applies to the customer, not the dealer.
I love negotiating, so dealerships are fun for me. Every new car I've bought I got for around invoice, with no addons I didn't want. I'm no nonsense, they pickup on that, and rarely have issues. The couple times I sensed anything weird, I immediately leave. I don't have time for BS. Also, I hate direct sales, since you can't work the deals. If you know how to talk to people, you'll always get a good deal.
One question I did not hear, why do these car manufactures think their cars are worth $70.000 when actually they aren't worth $30,000, especially the "American made", which are NOT made here just assembled here by over paid workers.
“Worth” is relative. It’s more profitable to the company to charge $70k and sell 300,000 units, then sell 450,000 or even 500,000 units at $30k. Now when the people who buy end up underwater because the industry uses Black Book, and they say that the truck is worth, say, $55,000, that is another matter. Again, “worth” to the customer and the manufacturer (and dealer) is all too often incongruent.
In one of my greatest hits: I went with my girlfriend to pick up an Acura TL that she wanted to buy.
The dealer had the car outside being washed, and it was sitting right in front of the glass window of the sales office, running - waiting for her to sign the papers to take it away.
The sales person showed us the numbers, they were higher than what she believed she negotiated because they claim that her credit score was too low for the numbers that they had negotiated.
I immediately got up and told the dealer I’m gonna go outside and turn the car off because you’re wasting gas.
Sure enough: we left without signing and didn’t take the car.
NEVER be afraid to walk away. Dealers use your attachment to a car to get more money out of you.
That was a tough thing to do. I give you credit.
@@AStanton1966there credit wasn't good 😂

Direct sales from manufacturer to customer is the future. Buying a car at a dealershio is an all day event and theres no reason for it to be.
If your going shopping for a vehicle and your vehicle uses a FOB to start it. Bring your spare fob. They try the lost the keys trick...hit the car alarm button on your spare fob. That will tell you where your car is real quick and embarrass the hell out of them just as fast.
A dealership once jerked me around about my keys and immediately turned me off and walked once I got my keys.
Thank you! This is an outstanding video and I literally took notes as I'm in the process of buying a used minivan. Everything you said is true. I've been shopping for a minivan for some time now, strictly by email to avoid the BS talking to them on the phone or driving to their dealership and getting burned when the vehicle that I was looking for suddenly got sold. Yeah that happened to me. And I drove 3 hours round trip to find that one out. I've learned a lot about how dealers present their cars and advertising and how crooked they are with their photos. They'll take photos of the vehicle in the shade to hide scratches or even dance. So I strictly deal or shop by email. And even then there's still a ton of bs. I asked the dealership by email to send me a link to the minivan and the Carfax in the same email thread. Nine times out of 10 they refuse or ignore my simple request. It's so GD annoying and frustrating to deal with all of these crooked dealerships.
I had a Honda dealer keep my keys until i pulled out my phone and set the timer for 10 minutes and said that if I don't have my keys returned by then I call the Police. They were promptly returned....the bastards.
10 minutes 😂😂👍
Probably the best video you have done in quite sometime. In Florida, the dealers have the law makers in their pockets. High fees that everyone charges. It is a very poor car buying experience in FLA. It is said to say that Carmax is high priced but at least you know what you are getting in to
nj the same dealeships own the state senate and assembly.

My wife back in the 90’s wanted to buy a new MR2. We went down to the Toyota dealer and she was asked by the salesman what her payment comfort range was. They pulled out a card with purchase price versus payment. What they didn’t realize is the was a financial expert and called them out on their calculations. It was obvious fraud. They crapped when she called it out 😂 needless to say we walked and she bought at a different dealership.
Lucky, my best experience at a dealer was buying a Saturn something like 25 years ago. I liked the straightforward pricing for the basic car and add ons. Whatever happened to that concept? Just not profitable enough for dealers?
And EVery GM exec worked overtime to kill Saturn. Mission Accomplished!
I always walk when they try to get me with the Crack Addiction Fee.
The hiding of trade in keys is real. I once started a huge commotion and threatened to call 911 if they were not returned. From then on. I tell dealers I will not discuss anything until my keys are back in my hand. Dealers are scum bags. Always so nice until you have to sit down to discuss numbers.
Smart, I’d tell them 9n the phone , I’m coming down to look at this car , I’m very serious and not a tire kicker… do you want to sell a car or play games? Once again if I come down there after you told me no extra fees, and there’s fees added , you lied to me and your getting punched dead in the face , do you understand? If I come down there and you deviate from what we discussed over the phone your getting decked, do you understand?
Do you Understand?😂😂😂👍

Why are dealerships always adding their “prostitute addiction” fee in the ???!!! 😂
I told a dealership that I would buy my cars from them, they still wouldn’t deal with me. I bought a 2017 GT350, 2021 GT500, and 2023 Bronco all from different dealers to get a fair price.
They may not have thought you could afford it.
@@EMichaelBall maybe it was my attire?

I have no dealer loyalty, best price wins every time, 1 or 200 miles away. Drove 1hr to save $15k on my last lease, local dealer called back and I said too bad, too sad.
Bought 2 or 3 new cars from Cal Worthington in Sacramento in the 90's. Best experience ever. Prices were always right, car was full of gas, and they got the deal done quickly. I bought a Mitsubishi 3000 GT from him in 45 minutes I was out the door driving home. I was bummed when Cal sold out. Worst ever: Lithia, hands down. Attention world: NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM LITHIA!!!!! I will never buy new again, so I get to deal with individual peeps, or independent used car dealers. Much better.
I only had one bad dealership experience in my life. It was a motorcycle dealership. The salesman was mad and rude because I wouldn’t pay nonsense fees. I still bought it anyway and never went back. Car dealers look at my face and don’t even try.
It’s the shades and the mouth. For me, your tone of voice would probably be what it would take. I’ve never heard it, but I’ve got a hunch… (I judge more by voice than face, though I’ve gotten better at the latter.)
I tried to "buy" a infinity once. I gave a few 25% down. I signed a bunch of papers but never the comfract from the bank with apr and terms. I called every day to ask about the Apr. I never got a response so i returned the car. The dealor wouldn't give me back my 25% i ended up having to sue the owner and take him to court. I eon the case. I went back to get a clunker since that was the agreement with the court i had "store credit" i picked a car talked them down on price by 3k. Then when they found out it was me, they rasied the 3k back. Welcome to south FL.
In 2021 Toyota and Lexus dealers wanted a large markup to start negotiations. New or used. I ended up buying a BMW X3 $8k under MSRP with no shady fees. Was impressed with the car but much more impressed with the dealer. Did not expect such good service and now I won’t ever buy a Toyota again.
Congratulations on the future $8,000 repair bill. BMW makes the most brittle cars using The Very Finest plastic that may have been sourced from Trump. That Lexus would have run like a top.
Imagine buying a BMW and thinking you made a wise financial decision 😂
BMW used to make solid cars, but now they're money pits with endless issues. Get rid of that before you hit 80k.
(1) The cost. I got my used 2011 Fusion a couple of years back for $5K through a private seller. Same year, similar mileage at a dealership: $8K.
(2) Giving me the price in 'payments' instead of the overall price.
(3) In general, all of the BS you go through: Upselling, throwing a barrage of numbers, 'extended warranty', 'I lost your keys', the ridiculous fees.
(4) Pushing me towards loans from your in-house financing is shady as f.
(5) Maintenance out of warranty has been (in my experience) at least 30% higher at a dealership than through an independent mechanic. And usually the mechanic is a lot more knowledgeable and does a better job.
I don't care that you have to make money. If the deal is this crappy for me, I'm never setting foot in a stealership.
Not, sure I agree with the colonoscopy 🤔 Unless you use a dealership's restroom when you prep.
Step 1. Mix a full container of MiraLAX with your favorite beverage, yum.
Step 2. Tight cheek yourself down to your favorite dealership, avoid potholes.
Step 3. Use their restroom, perhaps you can flush those mark ups away.
Just explain to them you get this way when have a bad deal, I mean meal 😁
Lucky! Have you been in the business long enough to remember when some Dealers had hidden microphones in the salesman's "cubicle". The salesman would leave and listen to the
conversation you had with your wife and as a result would gain valuable information.
Phone systems can do that as well. Blast a crappy UA-cam video when they leave you to wait forever. I bet they come back quickly.
Thanks for your update. Awesome show my friend.

back in 1995 I found that one Nissan truck on the lot by matching the stock number in the ad. was 7k new back then which was super cheap even then. A true unicorn purchase.
As far as New Car sales go, if the FTC could get off it's dead ass and implement the new CARS regulations instead of cowering to the Dealers Association Lawyers it might help the car buying experience.
Went into a Dealership in NW Florida.....First thing the SalesMgr felt like he needed to show just how powerful he thought he was......Then There is $2849.00 in Fees !!! Florida has a $ 1000.00 DOC Fee !!!

I used to love browsing dealerships in my early twenties. It was the casual test driving I enjoyed the most. To be fair, I never asked to test drive a car, they always offered every time.
And I was always up front by saying, "I promised my wife that I'm not buying a car today. We have five different places on my list and yours is my second stop. She's at work today."
Of course they often applied some pressure, but a smile and a "I can't today, but thank you for the great service" is easy to do. Politeness goes a long way.
I took my Benz into the dealership because it started vibrating above 90 mph. They said my AWD system was messed up and quoted me 9 grand to fix it. I took it to an independent dealer he pulled off the wheel and showed me a bent rim inside lip. Bought a new rim for 250$ on eBay, slapped it on, it was perfect. That was 8000 miles ago 😐
2024 Trax LS, $23,580 MSRP, Dealer Discount -$472, Trade Assistance -$2000 Price $21,108. "Must trade in a 2010 or newer vehicle for an additional $2,000 trade in assistance incentive."
Dealerships are manipulative liars. But I did find 1 honest one. Super rare.

Lucky, I work for CarMax. What you said is true for floor sales consultants, but not remote sales consultants. As remote consultants we get paid a little bit of commission on doing credit applications and setting appointments. It's very little compared to our salary. You probably already knew that, but just in case.
Great video very educational and informative. Keep it. Let us know if the market turns around
I get that same treatment about credit and etc… I told them like 650-700…. I had papers from my credit union about that and still didn’t believe lol and said 30 minutes later my credit wasn’t a problem… and also they took my old vehicle for a drive and etc… I see other YT content saying i shouldn’t tell my credit and see what they can do with monthly payments but I’ve always been truthful to dealerships.
Most dealers hate it when you’re preapproved because they know they can’t screw you over so then they try to get you your credit anyways lol
What is really irksome is when the salesman is not knowledgeable about the car or all of the information from the manufacturer. When I told the salesman that I am a military retiree and therefore I qualify for the military discount he told me that that was only for active military. Wrong! I showed him the manufacturer's website which clearly delineated that the offer goes to military retirees! After that, we got along pretty well and I bought the car!
I avoid dealerships like a plaque. The best deal I got was thru my credit union. I told them what I wanted and they did the work. I agreed over the phone and went to the bank to pick up my brand new car. I signed the paperwork in less than 30 minutes and I was out of there. I did not have to deal with the back and forth sales and bought a brand new car for well under msrp.
I recently purchased a new Volkswagen and it had a rattle in the door and a whistling noise from the sunroof. No big deal, but it was under warranty so I took it to the dealer to have it looked at. They just missed both issues as normal operation. I took the car home and I noticed that the door panel had not been reinstalled correctly. They had broken one of the clips and another was not attached. This is the dealership. They have the tools and the manuals to do this kind of thing right. For me, it was a very cheap and easily fixed reminder of why I started doing the work myself. It's a pain in the ass to do maintenance and repairs yourself, but it's the only way to ensure that they are done right.
Great video!
I agree that people jump on the lowest advertised price, not the total $ you have to pay. The $149 hotel room does not include the mandatory $39 "resort fee." SeaWorld has prices in the gift shops + an additional 5%, so the $25 stuffed orca is not really $25. I always think less of businesses that pull this nonsense.
My dealership doesn't lose keys. We just don't hand them back until the customer asks
Thanks for video.
The future is direct sales like at Tesla. In this economy everybody is in trouble, people cannot afford new cars, and dealers cannot afford to keep large inventory.
I bought a new ford ranger back in 2004, owner of the dealership was friend with my boss so figured i was being taken care of. I didn’t really read the contract, learned that was stupid, they gave me verbal that i was supposed to get 2.9apr and ended up getting 15%apr. didn’t notice til a bit later, my fault of course for not reading it. But for the little they made off me off a 12k truck I detoured so many friends and family from that dealership and then bought a new f150 at a different dealership.
I had some scumbag finance manager at a car dealership add an extended warranty to my contract that was never discussed. I told him to immediately remove it or I’m leaving. They reluctantly removed it and the deal moved forwards to completion. You must read the contract!

A "good deal" is a state of mind and has nothing to do with the price of a vehicle. For instance. Mr. Jones buys a car at a dealership and is happy with the deal. Then he talks with a friend, Mr. Smith who shows him that he got a much better deal on the same car. Mr. Jones is now angry. Did the price of Mr. Jones" change? NO! But his attitude was the thing that changed.
In order to have a good dealership experience you have to control the sale.
Dealerships are designed in a way to remove the control of the sale from the customer. You have to understand the set up and you have to take that control back.
When I go into a dealership, I have an 850 credit score so I already know that they can’t give me anything less than the prime rate.
I refuse to pay over sticker.
I walk into the dealer with my checkbook and a specific amount of money that I’m willing to use as a down payment.
I do not go over the amount that I specified.
If the dealer can’t do things my way, then we shake hands and I leave.
But I guarantee you: once a dealer sees you with a $10,000 check in their hand all of a sudden they will bend the laws of physics to ensure that you don’t walk out of that dealership.
Ask the Mercedes dealer who followed me to my car as I was leaving after I test drove one of their cars.
Ask all the salesman who tried to sell me dealer installed extras, which I refused to pay for, but they ended up having to relent and sell me the vehicle with those add-ons at no extra cost.
The car I bought was a Cadillac Lyriq.
$5000 GM rebate. $7500 government tax credit. $5000 worth of EVgo charging credits - free charging for two years.
Either you bow to my demands or I walk out of here and go across the street to BMW or Mercedes.
You see this check? It goes bye-bye.
Wrong And then you have to walk over to your sales manager and tell him what happened.
You have to tell your sales manager why a $10,000 check walked out of that dealership and didn’t come back.
So what’s it gonna be?
Damn i wish i had a 850 credit score
ok, we're asking all them dealers and salesmen, hang on...
Unfortunately you bought the worst and ugliest car ever. So they still got one over on you.
@Jimster481 You haven’t driven an I-MiEV.
You are still entering ENEMY territory. To get power, make them bring the car to YOU! Buying a Tesla online saves > $8,000 in dealer parasitism.
When I purchased my last vehicle, the process (except for the F&I guy) was pretty painless. Because of some health issues, leg positioning is important and I tell the salespeople up front that I need a minimum of a 20-30 minute test drive to make sure my right leg isn't cramping. The sales guy was most understanding and took us on various city streets and a couple of area highways so I could get a good feel for the vehicle. When we got back to the store, I said I'm ready to make a decision and need the pricing. they were very straightforward on the pricing. The sales guy even asked why I wanted that trim level and I told him why. The F&I guy was helpful with a good finance rate, which was better than I had been able to get. The only negative with him was the pressure tactic of telling me that the extended warranty was only available at the time of the sale, which is not true (I purchased the extended warranty package from another dealer just before the 3/36 expired at a very competitive rate).
My girlfriend had decided to trade in her 2014 Jeep Compass for a Corolla. We went to 2 local dealerships. The one selected had the right color, was a hatchback and an SE trim. They sold her the car for almost $1K below MSRP and is crediting her $3K for the Jeep. It has over 130Kmi and a HVAC actuator that's clicking loudly. The only extras on the SE were those useless locks, all weather mats and mudguards. She's paying in cash. So the deal was fairly straight forward. The only issue so far is waiting for it to be built. But, otherwise, a relatively fast and straight forward deal. Not borrowing makes it so much easier...if one can do it....
if we are a family i am the weird cousin who rides an escooter and sits in awe as yall detail all the crazy stuff you have to put up with in order to drive a car in 2024
I don't "hate" dealerships. It's people's desire to overpay for something that will depreciate. That new Jeep, Kia, GMC SUV etc. will cost you 70-80k. There is nothing in these vehicles that is a game changer. Today's vehicles are more homogenous then every before. They all have the same tech and same design. A lot of these models have been the same for years with very few changes. Remember when the car makers would design something that was completely unlike the rest of their fleets?
Experiences can also vary wildly at the same dealership depending on which salesman you get. I had a great experience at the same dealership I had walked out of three weeks earlier. I wouldn't have gone back but a couple of good friends told me to ask for a specific guy. When I was in his office he told me that I seemed like the type of person that didn't care about the payments but only wanted to see the bottom line on the total price. He was right and I could tell why he had salesman of the year plaques for 18 of the last 20 years. He did send me cards and occasional messages for a few years. If I needed another car I would've gone to him first. He has to be retired by now.
10:09 Like selling ANYTHING! Aim high, you can always come down. Can be a fail when searching on big websites lowest price to mileage/year ratio you may never see the car listed high.
I use 2 dealership for my new and used purchases and they treat me very well and know when I show up they know I will be ready to buy. Usually under invoice minus rebates and low APR programs.
6:48 You gotta remember that customers don't want sales people to exist at all...they are scum of the earth.
The dealers here in Palm Beach County Florida are the absolute worse regarding their junk fees and bogus motor vehicle and registrations fees.
One piece of advice is to check your state allowance laws on different items when buying a car IE; Gap insurance, doc fees, and a myriad of other fees they will try to scam you on. Never pay for that little trick car dealerships have figured out about alleged theft prevention. Every single car they bring onto their lot is etched with a little emblem into all of your side windows that they claim you will be able to track your car with. You can ask any cop and they will all tell you it's bunk and the dealerships will charge you a ridiculous charge for it. QUESTION EVERYTHING. Most car dealers are as crooked as politicians. Read the contract before you sign anything.
I recently bought a car from a dealer. Once we agreed on price they started to add on a bunch of “dealer add ons” I walked out the door and they chased me out saying they would take it off. I told them to pound sand and bought from a dealer in the next city
Lucky, Most people are stupid and expect everything for free. Need to do your (Due Diligence) and if a dealer is shady then leave.
I submitted a reservation online to a local dealer for service to be done a few days later. The next day someone from the dealer left a vm saying they had some questions about my vehicle. I called back and they wanted my vehicle in trade for a new vehicle. I didn’t like the tactic, but I still had my car serviced there.
🔥 @Lucky As one who spent paper in the box, I can tell you honestly that even when I tried to do right by the customer, they don’t care. They buy with their heart instead of their head. Make a bad decision that I tried to nudge them against, but they ALWAYS had to have a fully loaded rig with all the bells and whistles.
Then they cry foul when the newness wears off and they’re left with a big payment for 72/84 months and will scream to the heavens that I or our dealership screwed them over.
There’s nothing wrong with an SXT but they have to have a wide body Scat Pack. People can hate me for saying this but Mopar owners are the worst when it comes to this. 🔥
Mopar owners are absolutely 100% the dumbest community of car guys
How does this translate to the overflowing lots of high end Mopars at CDJR dealers right now?
Dealerships are a relationship business. Good relations, more business.
I stay away from dealers as much as possible. I spent a summer as a mechanic at one . They lie to employees as well.
Dealership suck because they want you buy add on that you do not need . I understand Gap insurance but 4 tires with rims, I have pay my car off early to get some of my money . I pay for extra warranty then they cancel the warranty. I hate going to another dealership
I hate the Dealer Discount of $1907. Then they say oh it consist of loyal/grad/military discount plus cash discount. Usually they are round numbers, not weird discounts like 1907 or 1904. Looks like a true discount. I blasted the dealer and told them I'm dealing with another dealer.
Salesman usually give themselves way to much credit in how important their role is in a transaction. Typically customers have shown up because they are in need of what you're selling. You simply need to answer questions and remove barriers if possible, being knowledgeable about your product is helpful. I have found more often then not I have more knowledge about the product then the Salesman, at that point they are just a middle man and in the way. I often say I bought the car despite the Salesman best effort to making me walk out 😅
I live in the Minneapolis area. Cars and car prices are a bit of a hobby to me. I have been watching many UA-cam folks commenting on how prices are dropping and how better deals are here or coming soon based on what the wholesale/auctions are doing lately. Well - I am not seeing that. In this area there are 2-3 HUGE companies that own anywhere from 30-40 dealerships in the Twin City area. Seems to me they monopolize prices and have worked to keep prices high. Yes there are some deals here and there, but from what I see their prices are still flying high.
The most cocaine I've ever seen was at a Toyota dealership.
South Florida?
@EMichaelBall Delray beach my friend.
DC?
Two of the Hyundai dealers here in Las Vegas are typically advertising very low prices but have 2000+ recon fees. While I was learning this, I went down, they brought the car out and it really looked like shit. Not only are you buying a nasty looking car, not knowing the true condition, but you cant take it home that day since their service/cleaning bay was so busy. This was near the end of the Pandemic, but I still see them advertising slightly lower than the rest so they prob still have this ploy in effect in some way.
I worked at several dealers years ago. They were all crooks, some worse than others. This was in St Louis. There was only ONE dealer in town that I never heard anything bad about. Dave Sinclair Ford. I don't know how they are doing today. But it was a good dealership then.
Most of the salespeople I have dealt with were decent people. It’s the finance people that push the BS with 1 exception. Ironically, that was at a BMW dealership. I went there twice myself and once with a friend. My guess is that their markups are healthy so they can pay finance people a decent salary.
I'll tell you why I may hate a dealership. I just bought a new Jeep Wrangler and the dealer tacked on a $299 charge for window etching! You can't make this stuff up.
Out the door price should start at MSRP PLUS TAX AND TITLE. That's it. If the customer wants the extras then so be it. But mandating in or SNEAKING in all that BS nitrogen, paint protection and dishonest warranties should be criminal. Why must a customer be subject to the commission based process from not just the salesperson - but the money hungry dishonest other employees - the sales manager and finance manager? Your friend making $25k a month- how much of that is by pushing and mandating things that served ZERO benefit to his customers? Make the staff hourly only and let the market and consumer protection laws dictate how much $ they will make.
I had to buy a car a few months ago to replace one that I had mechanically totaled and my big annoyance was having to fight to get the car down to MSRP through all the stupid port and dealer installed options I didn’t ask for. My problem was that I wanted a Toyota and their day supply doesn’t leave a lot of room for negotiation. I probably could have worked the price down to under MSRP but I gave in and took what I thought was at least a fair price given that I still had to wait to get a car off the next truck.
Glad i don't work at car dealer anymore. I've seen all he's talking about . got tired of seeing people getting screwed by unethical employees.
Man... Lucky, it's all the horseshit that goes with it. I drive old cars. But I buy older cars, restore them, and daily them. There's way too many fees/tough negotiations, and just fucking lies with new and used car dealers. If it was "The price is X plus tax and tag" it might be different. And I won't pay $600 doc fees, that's total BS. There's a few states that won't let you charge over $100. It's all the games that ruined it for me. So now I'll buy some 250,000 mile Yukon, take it apart, rebuild it like new and drive it. I have 2 mid 2000's Yukons, a 66 Lemans and a 70 Chevy Kingswood wagon. But then again, I can't stand all the electronics and shit on newer cars.
I hate dealerships because I want to go in. I will pay the MSRP on the car. If it has some dealer add-ons that I can use I don’t mind paying for that. I’ll pay the taxes, but everything else I’m not paying. I never traded a car because they’ll screw you one way or the other on your trade, I’m not paying some stupid market up charge and I’m not paying all the stupid fees. You could charge all that to the idiots but I’m not paying it. I also don’t want to sit in the dealership forever once I find the car once I have the financing secured outside of the dealership, they got 45 minutes to make the deal or I’m out.
No, they want to run your financing because they ding your credit report so you’re almost guaranteed to buy it’s harder to walk away .
I don’t trade a car because I’ll take my keys and I’ll never see the car again. I keep my car until I buy the new car then I’ll private party sell my car.
If you do this, then the only thing that you’ve got a negotiate with them is the price of the car out the door. For example, I got no trade. I don’t need your financing so you don’t have to run my credit report. I have a preapproved check. Let’s talk the outdoor price.
Last week i went to a small lot in my area that has no fees or added extras and the salesman was nice but when i asked if they would match a price of a similar car i found 8hrs away the first thing he said was Hell yes we do it all the time , what sucks is he followed up with - we will have to match discounts or add the same fees and coverages or prep charges just like the dealership 8hrs away if you want us to match price - It was like they knew they already had the lowest total deal even though their online price was much higher than the dealership group 8hrs away
Tesla, Rivian and Lucid all have no dealers in the US. You order directly from their website and take delivery either delivered to your door or at a display store or service center. There is no sales person to lie to you. There is no shady Finance room where you are locked into and lied to like a dog. There is no shady manager to “grudgingly” give you a deal where you are still getting ripped off in the end. No nitrogen add-ons. No dealer markup, no mandatory “optional” equipment tacked onto the vehicle. Nothing but a nice car at the price you see on the website.
I just bought a new car last year. The salesman was good. He was up front and honest. When I spoke with the financing guy I found a whole bunch of things were added on the contract that I did not want. I spent the time looking through the contract and asking questions. Here is an example. I found in the contract that I would have to pay an extra $500.00 for nitrogen in my tires. I said no way. I said take it out. They removed the charge and I still had nitrogen in my tires. In fact, when I go to the dealership to have my car serviced they put nitrogen in my tires. I do not pay extra for that. I find that interesting. Thoughts?
Air is > 78% Nitrogen. They ain’t lying. They take advantage of the fact that Americans don’t have Science in school curricula - especially private schools.
It's a scam. It only matters for race cars/specialty vehicles.
I love buying new cars. I negotiate for a living so I understand how the game is played. Ultimately, it's not personal, it's just business. I usually have a lot of fun with the salesmen.
same I find it like a game. I like the bs with them and make them confused
