This song or this album can't be mentioned without including the guy behind the controls, Martin Birch, who then went on to produce all Maiden albums in the 1980s except the first one (because he was doing this album). Best producer ever. He doesn't get mentioned nearly enough for the success of Heaven and Hell.
i had no idea, if thats true then idk what to say, mad respect.
There can only be one song after this: "the world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams, it's..."
Heaven and Hell is one of the all time great metal albums. All the songs are true classics, especially the title track which is legendary. Do the lyric video.
The song Heaven and Hell is one of my favorite songs of all time, please take a listen and get the lyric video. I'm very happy that you are checking out Dio era Sabbath. The Tony Martin era is very good too especially The Headless Cross album.
I got some Tony Martin requests in the works. Tyr, Headless Cross, Eternal Idol, and Cross Purposes are all solid albums in my opinion.
I tell you what you are spot on there my friend Dio and Tony Martin were fantastic. I preferred the Dio years of Sabbath Heaven and Hell was a masterpiece and a great show I would have loved Headless Cross live but the video was all I had I bought that package when it came out.
Heaven and Hell is awesome!!!! Also *Computer God* , from Dehumanizer which was released in 1992 when Dio came back to Sabbath, is one of the best Dio era songs aswell
An absolute banger on a brilliant album. Dio totally revived Sabbath, a band reborn. And I love both Ozzy, and Dio fronted Sabbath.
Children of the sea
Great solo. Depressing lyrics. A foreshadowing for Dio maybe?
Mark, frienly question, why depressing lyrics though?
Where to go next with this album, I'd check out "Lonely is the Word" which features a lot of Iommi guitar, a long solo at the end of the song, and also "Children of the Sea" for the riffage and Geezer's bass.
A hidden gem.
This is a good one... 🤘🤘🔥🔥comes across great live too. This Black Sabbath album w/ Dio, 'Heaven & Hell' (1980) was the first Sabbath album to sell platinum in the US since 'Sabbath bloody Sabbath' (1974) w/ Ozzy...
Sabbath had 2 duds w/ Ozzy - 'Technical ecstasy' (1976) and 'Never say die!' (1978)... Ozzy felt those records were too far removed from Black Sabbath's early records and neither he nor their fans bought what they were doing. The drugs and alcohol had gotten so bad by 1979 that they couldn't work w/ Ozzy anymore... A frustrated Tony Iommi (guitar) fired Ozzy and wanted to work w/ Ronnie James Dio, who had just been fired from Rainbow.
Ronnie came in and heard some of Iommi's guitar compositions, and immediately had lyrics, melodies and song ideas... Bill Ward (drums) was reluctant to make a Sabbath record without Ozzy, but signed on. Geezer Butler (bass) had quit, but decided to come back... he was relieved that he didn't have to write lyrics anymore for the band.
The songs on that record are stellar - 'Children of the Sea'... 'Lady Evil'... 'Heaven & Hell' ... 'Neon Knights'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘
'Heaven & Hell' was released in 1980 and became a hit record... but as the band started touring, Bill Ward hated playing w/ Ronnie James Dio singing Ozzy-era Sabbath songs live and quit... Vinny Appice (drums) finished the tour and joined Black Sabbath, recording the album 'Mob Rules' (1981) and the double -live 'Live Evil' (1982), before he and Ronnie James Dio split and formed Dio in 1983.
The albums Heaven And Hell and Mob Rules get to sit on their own shelf. Sabbath stand alone.
this is the only Sabbath album that has Both Bill Ward And God Dio on it for me its there best album.
I'm simple man. See DIO - put LIKE
Do the whole album its fantastic
The Dio years solos are the bests of Iommi
I think you should do an entire Dio deep dive
Hurm,
Have you ever listened to Unleash The Archers? Check out a song called "Awakening"
here is a link....ua-cam.com/video/gqUPGa15Oto/v-deo.html
It is a female singer who it totally amazing and powerful, she is exactly what I would image Dio's daughter to look and sing like..The entire band is mind blowing actually.
Rockin' track. The key line message in this song, 'So live for today, tomorrow never comes'. Hopefully at some point, you eventually end up listening to other tracks like 'Falling Off the Edge of World', 'Children of the Sea', 'Mob Rules', 'I', "Lady Evil', 'Lonely is the Word' and especially, the track that Ronnie states is his personal best, 'Heaven and Hell'.
Welcome....to D.I.O. ........!!!!!!!!
Heaven and Hell I like off this album
Next: Heaven and Hell!
Please check out “Falling Off The Edge Of The World” (from the Dio-fronted Sabbath album Mob Rules). Such a ferocious and generally perfect song.
The best Sabbath songs from that era are:
Children Of The Sea
Neon Knights
Die Young
Lady Evil
Heaven And Hell
(from 1980’s Heaven And Hell)
and
Falling Off The Edge Of The World
The Mob Rules
Country Girl
Voodoo
Sign Of The Southern Cross
(from 1981’s Mob Rules).
These albums are almost as great as the best Ozzy-fronted Black Sabbath records.
Great choice, one of my Sabbath favorites!
It'll be really nice if you react to Queen's discography!
