    Recommended oil is 0-20 synthetic. Keep up with the oil changes. Beware the knock on cold start up. It was a Technical Service Bulletin. Mine had it when under 36k miles. They added more sound deadening behind the steering wheel. A few years out of warranty i had catastrophic engine failure. No help from Toyota. Engine swap set me back 8,000. So far so good with over 225,000 miles on a 2008 Highlander Sport.

      My 13 Camry has a plastic one. been doing oil changes over 9 years and haven't broken the plastic one yet. Just don't drop it or over tighten it. I just tighten it till it stops and that it!

    • @austinnewcomb6269
      @austinnewcomb6269 6 років тому +1

      In the video he states its 5 quarts, but at the end of the video when he talks about oil disposal, there is clearly six quarts of oil (one 5qt and one 1 qt bottle **green**) present. I also went to my local auto parts store and they told me that Toyota calls for 6 Qts for a 2008 Highlander 3.5L V6 engine. If yours is the same engine but a 2011, then its 6 Qts as well.

    I never stick that plastic valve into the filter to drain the filter. I just use that 14 flute oil filter wrench and drain everything all together. I don't see why you have to do it. Some other videos they skip that step also.

    • @BIGWILLSCARCARE
      @BIGWILLSCARCARE  5 років тому +1

      You can do it without using the valve it just minimizes the potential mess

      When you're doing a video you're suppose to demonstrate how it's suppose to be done and just mention if you usually eliminates a certain step or not and why. If you read the instructions that come with the OEM filter it says not to use a pick to remove the o-ring but almost everyone does.

      I use OW-20 in our 2009 with 2.5 four cylinder. I usually use premium ethanol-free Valero gasoline. (Not for the octane but just because I prefer ethanol-free and ethanol-free regular is not available locally).

    Everyone who has this system should be prepared for a worse case scenario especially if this is the first time you're doing this.
    In case of a Stuck Oil Filter
    Make sure you have the following...
    1. The proper Motivx* oil filter cap wrench. Item #MX2320 us for all Toyota/Lexus/Scion engines 2.0 liters and larger using a cartridge style oil filter or item #MX2321 is for all engines smaller than 2.0 liters using a cartridge style filter.
    2. A 27 mm ½ inch drive socket
    3. A ½ drive breaker bar (18 inches or longer in length. An extension may be needed for some models.)
    If an oil filter cap seems difficult to remove, only the above items should be used (or equivalent tools). Do not simply use a ⅜ inch drive ratchet or ratchet with extension as these will sometimes result in breakage of the oil filter cap wrench or the oil filter cap.
    Always make sure the teeth on the wrench are properly engaged with the tabs on the oil filter cap.
    To prevent reoccurrence of the problem
    •Make sure new o-rings are properly lubricated before installing.
    •Use a torque wrench to install the oil filter cap to no more than 18 ft.lbs (25 N•m). Oil filter drainplug = 10 ft.lbs. (13 N•m)
    * If you think the Motivx tools are too expensive at least consider the following... Do not buy an oil filter cap wrench that is made from cast aluminum. Only buy one that is forged. Do not buy one that is strictly a cap wrench that does not have teeth. Do not buy one that claims to fit all models or even all four cylinders. The 2.0 and 2.5 liter four cylinder engines use the same oil filter cap wrenches as the six and eight cylinder engines use. Only the 1.8 and 1.3 liter engines use a different size oil filter cap and oil filter cap wrench. If the oil filter for your four cylinder vehicle comes with one o-ring instead of two then your vehicle takes the same wrench as a Prius or Corolla. If your oil filter comes with two o-rings & a drain tool then your oil filter cap takes the same wrench as the six and eight cylinder engines. Some companies claim their wrench works for all four cylinders but on the 2.5 liter engines that smaller wrench does not engage the teeth on the wrench to the tabs on the oil filter cap. It may work if your oil filter cap is not stuck but it is a poor choice. They are mislead.
    For those that don't believe this is a problem...

      If you are talking about spin off filters - I agree Fram (especially the orange ones are garbage and have been shown to have rust inside of the filter when cut open in filter test videos) but, these are cartridge filters - if you really care about your toyota or lexus - go oem and buy them off amazon. Half a case will end up costing you $ 5 per filter or $25 for 5 - Toyota part # 04152-YZZA1. Plus synthetic oil is cheaper now since you can run it twice as long - forget carbon based oil it sucks in winter and summer.

      @@BIGWILLSCARCARE I agree with you about Fram Filters. The Cartridge filters made by Fram are better constructed then the Fram spin on filters, plus you see what you are getting. I use Fram Tough Guard on my 2013 Camry no issues. Also been using Fram since 1984 on my VW, Honda, Ford and Toyota cars with no issues, so the filters are not as bad as people make them out to be!
