Hey, I'm not a member, only subscriber. I speak American English and learning German now 2 years.
I wanted to say, I learn best when teachers are doing exact translations from German to English. And I know it's funny to listen to. But my brain understand and learns that faster than other ways.
To elaborate, English and German are very similar in many ways. But the grammar is different order. To have English words with German grammar was easier for me to mentally digest.
