    *Maverick*
Ford has enjoyed long-term success with its F-150 full-size pickup, dominating the market for decades. Leveraging this expertise, Ford introduced the unibody compact truck, the Maverick, two years ago. The Maverick quickly became popular, outselling the larger Ford Ranger. Its appeal lies in its crossover SUV-like driving experience, built on the same platform as the Ford Bronco Sport and Ford Escape.
The Maverick comes as a four-door crew cab seating five, with ample interior storage. It offers two powertrain options: a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or a 190-horsepower hybrid rated at 37 mpg combined. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available for the non-hybrid. For off-road enthusiasts, there are two off-road packages, including the Tremor.
Despite its small size, the Maverick is capable, with a 4.5-foot bed suitable for home improvement projects and garden supplies. It can handle up to 1,500 pounds of cargo and tow up to 4,000 pounds when properly equipped. The bed features various accessories and tie-down cleats for securing loads.
The Maverick stands out in the U.S. market for its compact size, with its closest competitor being the Hyundai Santa Cruz. Larger alternatives include the Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier midsize pickups.
    *Ridgeline*
Honda's only pickup, the Ridgeline, continues to take on its more traditional midsize truck rivals with a combination of rugged capability and car-like comfort. Now deep into its second generation, the Ridgeline is the only midsize pickup with unibody construction and an independent rear suspension, which it shares with the Honda Passport SUV. Plus, every Ridgeline has a roomy four-door crew cab with all-wheel drive and a powerful V6 engine. All of the other midsize pickups, including the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Jeep Gladiator, and Ford Ranger feature a traditional body-on-frame construction with a solid-axle rear end. As a result, they offer more off-road capability and towing capacity than the Ridgeline, but the Honda is more refined and comfortable on the road, with the ride, handling, and cabin space of a crossover. For many buyers, that's a worthwhile tradeoff, and more automakers are picking up on the trend. Though they're smaller than the Ridgeline, the recently introduced Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick are also crossover-based pickups that trade capability for comfort. The Honda Ridgeline's updates for this year include an off-road TrailSport trim, refreshed exterior features, enhanced interior storage, and upgraded technology.

The Honda Ridgeline’s real comparison to me is a different Blue Oval truck, the Ford Ranger.

Absolutely correct. The Maverick is appreciably smaller and on the order of $10k cheaper than the Ridgeline so anyone shopping for either one of those is unlikely to be cross-shopping the other. Ridgeline versus Ranger is the more likely pairing (and then you can throw in the pricey Tacoma and the Colorado).

@@henrybrandt1057 And the Maverick’s real competition is the Hyundai Santa Cruz. And Hyundai will not call it a truck.

This is a great comparison, but though the ridgeline is more expensive it’ll last longer

Ridgeline right size and features for me and family, not perfect and not upgraded enough by Honda, but still best option for us especially size, features, reliability, safety, and ride and handling

In 2044 the Honda will still be going strong with 350K miles, The Ford will have spent the last 8 years in the junk yard.

Why do you think that? There are a ton of Ford trucks on the road with 200k-300k on them, especially Rangers, F250s, and F350s.

Porsche 911 has more rear leg room than the maverick

More similarities than differences between these two cars masquerading as “trucks”, but Honda’s quality is of course much higher.

I would totally get the Honda, though it is much larger and more expensive, I think it does everything the Ford does plus more!!!!! My parents owned the original Honda Ridgeline and loved it, they had it for years, the sold it to a family member who still has it and has over 250k miles on it with no problems and everything still works!!! Power windows, power sunroof, the old navigation system still works and it’s 17 years out of date!!!
I would pay the extra money for the Honda, but the little Ford is great for those who just want a small truck and not too expensive…. I remember back in my high school days when lots of small trucks were everywhere!!!

The Honda blows the Ford out of the water in every aspect except price and fuel economy. The latter is attributed to the smaller power plants.
