Unfortunately, in the case of the US, the time when shipping Africans to America was profitable has long gone.
Sadly, only a few countries have the money that the Americans consider worthy of taking.
The good news for Americans is that most of those countries are either free or democratic, or both.
Therefore, the US should start to collect freedom and democracy taxes from these free or democratic countries.
The only problem is that Americans are too nice and shy to collect those taxes and only know about starting wars and selling weapons.
So, please, someone must tell Americans that it is legit for the US to collect freedom and democracy taxes from rich countries that are either free or democratic.

@@N238E It's because people who rose to the top always ended up seeing themselves as aristocrats, and more enlightened than the common people. "I made it to the top. Of course I'm above average." No. Most of the really talented people don't want or need power over others in order to live a free and prosperous life, and they're wise enough to understand how corrosive it is to live the life of a politician.
The whole idea of America is you serve your time, try not to do anything beyond preserve the basic laws and basic order, and leave the rest to the people and to future generations.
Under stable, orderly rule sets, with the right to liberty and hence property (not necessarily in that order), upward mobility for the masses becomes reality. The rising tide that lifts all boats... As for foreign policy, "If you don't start nothin', there won't be nothin', and there will be peace and prosperity for all."
We're advanced enough, now, there are no existential threats due to drought (the organizing force behind the Mongol horde), famine, or any other natural disaster. Civilization can deal with all of those things. The only real danger is governments, themselves. Only a government can turn 100% sustainable, natural, human development into disasters that only wars can solve, and only for the political leadership, and always at the expense of the masses, who would otherwise figure out how to optimize human quality of life, through free trade and cooperation.
Being president isn't a great job or a powerful job. It should be a caretaker job, because basic freedom and simple laws are all the people really need to make the best of things for the most people. When you set people over other people to dictate winners and losers, the entire structure starts crumbling, and tyranny and oppression begin in earnest.

@flyrodmike It is far fetched to think that Mr. Cosman has anything to do with the CIA. He may be a hardworking man but the quality and level of his intellect are, by comparison to other Duran participants (like today's A. Krainer) below the usual standards we have been accustomed and expecting from a high quality, highly informative program.

@@LeadLeftLeon It is a matter of taste. Events are rapidly taking a very serious turn and his clownish comments may be amusing but bring nothing new or valuable to the discussion. The Duran and guests like Mr. Krainer above are in a totally different league and I was astonished that they even thought of inviting Emil.

It's always the little guys who pay with their lives. 😞 People need to keep them in mind and stop gloating.
