  • 1: Both have new sensors
2: both using same test reference leak testing bottles of YF refrigerant and 134 refrigerant.
    Not using a Refrigerant cap
Not using a Crack valve off of the Refrigerant tank and stick in the nozzle to the Refrigerant tank opening
Not using any sort of an equal, uncalibrated, unknown quantity refrigerant to use for comparison, or testing
Using something that’s lab grade reference specifically made for testing refrigerant leak detectors at 70°F as recommended by reference bottle manufacture .

funny seeing the tape on the battery door. I shoved a vacuum connector by the battery latch so the battery would quit knocking the door loose on mine. but the door catch is a bit lacking

Yes, I broke the catch latch. Swapping out CO2 sensor and also swapping out flammable hydrocarbon sensor and then back to Refrigerant sensor.
That’s the one drawback of using the one leak detector for all three different refrigerants. If you swap out the sensors a lot that little plastic catch lunch breaks. .

130 dollars for that tool on Amazon and I lost all my gas due to a leak somewhere. If I want to find that leak I have to buy 30 dollars worth of whack off cans of refrigerant or whatever the minimum is just to get the compressor to come on so I can find my leak. That's 160 bucks for me to locate the problem not even counting the cost of new gas. If 200 gets me a diagnosis and evacuation of any remaining gas for safety reasons and they will come back and fill it up with fresh gas after I replace the bad parts that's probably cheaper than DIY troubleshooting

I can't believe that sensor lasted so long.
Would it be viable to use CO2 as a tracer gas and use the stratus with a CO2 sensor to pressure test and find leaks?

If the CO2 was moisture free. With some vendors suppliers contamination is a problem they just hire kids or guys with little to no experience with high turnover rate for a cheap position filling tanks..
There’s a difference between medical grade CO2 laboratory grade CO2 that are on clean, dry, evacuated, moisture free tanks .
Then tanks that every Joe blow turns in that had the knobs left open infiltrated with outside, atmospheric moisture air under high production just get rapidly refilled to push out for things like beverage CO2 to make your soda sparkly for CO2 just use for general purpose propellant .
But yes, CO2 would be good if clean and dry .
The stratus CO2 leak detector sensor is extremely sensitive. I made a video on that I have the sensor. It works excellent
But sodas, hydrogen or helium with the 95/5% mixture with a hydrogen leak detector or a helium leak detector

@@coldfinger459sub0 I knew you'd have the right answer 😉. So the mercedes a/c system using CO2 is high grade moisture free I would imagine.

@@Automotive_Solutions of course it’s Mercedes nothing but the best crap on earth.
I really wish they would bring Mercedes CO2 systems to the United States. I have been dreaming in fantasizing about this. . $$$ money 💰 because I know for a fact, I would be the only one in San Francisco who would be able to recharge them at a ridiculously incredibly high price and only one or two Mercedes in our area would be the only other competition I would have 🤣.

Hey Thomas Im about to purchase a used leak detector, probably an Inficon or a fieldpiece. What worries me is how aging of these sensors work? If they werent used there isnt a problem right? Prices of a quality brand new leak detector is sky rocket here, but a 2nd hand Inficon Tekmate would do good for me if its in a good working condition

    • @coldfinger459sub0
      @coldfinger459sub0  Рік тому

TecMate is entry level low level leak detector. Look up the price of a new sensor so you know what to expect if you need one.. look up a price of a new battery because the batteries have a tendency to go bad on them. The early models I’ve owned one if you would turn them upside down or bump anything they would falsely go off at the slightest bump when I used one.. I was not too fond of it.
      But it will work
What model Fieldpiece they made several leak detectors .
Remember, these are usually rechargeable batteries they have a limited . Even if not in use when you store rechargeable batteries, sometimes they take on a memory and reduce their capacity so you will have to recharge them more often..

@@coldfinger459sub0 You right, I found good price on replacement batteries, but replacement hot diode sensors are expensive, funny thing: more than what I pay for the 2nd hand entire detector
Fieldpiece XRL8 is the model I can purchase too. Recently a chinese company Elietech re-branded his name here as Xetron and they are selling new detectors which maybe are a better option for the moment. I want to detect leaks in the future with N2+H2 but I dont know If these chinese made detectors would do it

@@ignatius2230 hydrogen or helium. Leak detectors are specific sensor only for those gases refrigerant leak detectors are not meant for that..
You have to specifically purchase a separate leak detector for hydrogen and a separate leak detector for helium .
Elite tech kind of low end, minimum bottom of the line leak detectors. I did one video one of my shops purchased one brand new and it did not pick up the reference refrigerant leak, detector bottle sample..
      So I got a fail thumbs down . 👎
It’s all about finding a small hard to find leaks . And leak detectors that will last for years or decades..

I would probably go with a Fieldpiece. It got good reviews amongst a commercial and residential HVAC community.
