I love my 580SM it is a farm machine used regularly for digging lifting and loading. yes for just digging excavator is king but all around handy machine a backhoe is awesome. My option is Case leads in backhoe engineering and versatility, it does not feel like it is as big as it is in tight areas.
Good video, you mentioned some good key points. I love excavators but I grew up around backhoes and I’m a backhoe person. They’re tough to beat on certain job sites where there’s some digging involved and loading or packing material around. They’re good at a lot of things but not perfect at one. Also I like your blue square body dually in the background 👌🏻
Keep the backhoe. Nice to have a backup for either skidsteer or excavator. Obviously isnt as handy as skidsteer or excavator in every situation but can definitely get the job done.
I’m just getting started, doing little jobs as a side business. I have a subcompact TLB and it works for what I do. I needed a loader and an excavator, but could only afford one purchase. I ended up with the TLB. If I start doing more work and bigger jobs, I may buy an excavator. I already have my eye on a Sany.
A backhoe is a updated old tractor your backhoe does not have side shift which can help dig a trench next to a wall and the backhoe can only go to the left or right and a excavator can load a truck and push the dirt into all four corners of the tray but the backhoe is good to pick-up alot of dirt and backfill a trench or hole
I'm looking for a piece of equipment for clearing some land on my property. I'm really leaning towards a backhoe with 4in1 bucket. I'm really tempted to change out the bucket attachment to go to SSQA so I could run a skid steer grapple for moving logs around. I just don't know what all I'd be giving up going that route. I'm sure there's a reason why they're still mounting buckets that way on backhoes.
As a old operator told me, the backhoe is a bad excavator, it's a bad loader (our backhoes are based on wheel loaders instead of tractor) but it's a great excavator-loader, or something along those lines. In other words, it has it's uses but it will not replace either machine, it's versatile but not great at specific tasks. They are great as service machines on work sites, they are (the ones we have) great at powerline work and cable laying work.
Really depends on the application. It’s hard to do any precision work with the backhoe when it comes to fine grading. But if you have ditching and clearing to do it will put perform!
There not out dated if you can't oford an escavater, I also can use it as skip loader, can't do that with that escavater, also that case can use many more atachments.
hows the loader vs the skid steer like i never ran a real backhoe but i run a massey 1245 with a hoe on the back and it doesnt seem to keep up with the skid steers power to push and kinda level stuff if that makes sense .
4x4 makes a big difference. And the backhoe is designed more for dirt. Big difference in the feel of it and a tractor. It beats the skid steer for moving a lot of material over a distance. But skidsteer is the way to go for any type of precision work or grading
They both have their place they’ll never be outdated and fully replaced, I grew up on a backhoe and run an excavator in Deere controls because of it, I can run both very efficiently but according to an idiot I work in inferior because I use outdated controls lol and our “outdated” backhoe has saved us for loading multiple times already this year

Thanks again! Enjoying your honest opinions!

"They’re good at a lot of things but not perfect at one." Very well put!
Enjoyed the video. More videos like this brother.

I love my Sany ! Don’t think you’d be disappointed!
Plus on the case backhoes. You can still get parts thru case. Unlike alot of the others where parts have been discontinued.
The TBL is a very versatile piece of equipment in the right hands

Some smaller backhoes run the skidsteer quick attach! Pretty sure cat has quick attach for their backhoes now but it is a bigger more HD design!
4in1 front bucket is a necessity for land learing work. Makes an enormous difference to their versatility.

An excavator with a tilt rotator is the most universal of all these machines. It can even be used as a bucket loader if you have the skills!
If you could only have one, which would it be.. I'm looking at the 90XT or 580L

So do you operate on backhoe or ISO?
Backhoe controls. Even in my excavator
I am very happy to see your video friends... Explaining useful tools... I wish you good health and success my friend

alright thanks for the info @@diggingwithdylan9092
Great video man. Case really does make a great backhoe. Hard to beat the cummings 4bt .looken forward to seeing what you did to your sany.
