    i used to have severe social anxiety and the only way I got past it was/is doing something that scared me every day. even the smallest things like saying “thank you” to the bus driver. I remember the first time I did it I was so proud of myself and now I’ve had multiple customer service jobs and the customers even tell me that I am great at what I do.. and that’s crazy to me because I’m still a little socially anxious and I still get scared to go grocery shopping by myself but I do it anyway. I’m planning on getting “do it anyway” tattooed on my arm/wrist as a reminder to be scared, but do it anyway.

    11 years ago I did something scary. I started playing at a baseball team, which is quite uncommon in Germany, especially for girls. Also I was really bad at throwing. I had three really fun years playing baseball and one day during training met a great guy, who is now my husband. Try new scary stuff guys! You never know until you try!

    I love the idea of a screen-less day! One thing I do have trouble with is the idea that we should do something that is hard or challenges us to step outside the comfort zone. The only two times I have ever consciously done this seemed like positive things when I started and turned into experiences that were terrible for me. I know one could say, that the experiences were useful in that I know more of what isn’t good for me, but it really leaves me reluctant to step outside my comfort zone again. Taking on challenges like that is akin to ignoring what my gut tells me.

    • @Luanara101
      @Luanara101 Рік тому +6

      you can do hard things without negative consequences. take a cold shower for two minutes. I mean cold cold, not lukewarm. It strengthens your mind and has only positive effects. It trains your mind to withstand pain and stress better, which helps to be less stressed in general. And so you may widen your comfort zone :) I think the general idea is to expand this zone, so you can take up harder challenges over time and grow, get more self confident. Also i think there is a difference between a negative gut feeling and being nervous, for example. I trust my gut, always. Maybe you can try to learn to differentiate between those feelings better.

      I understand this Debbie. I support challenging myself often, but I also think its important to realise when I might not be in a good space to add a challenge, and also choosing challenges that stretch me but not too much. If I think of myself as a rubber band then I'm made to expand and stretch. But if you pull/stretch/stress the rubber band too much, it may break.

    I could say my 'routine' is the other word for 'rules'. I value my productive days and make it balance out with 'gym first. Followed with oatmeal also for a hearty healthy breakfast. I love making lists of home projects prioritizing most important to tomorrow or next day... When feeling I'm falling off the wagon I STOP and sit with either total silence and may journal my thoughts, reflections or just doing a recheck in my mind. Getting out of our element aka comfort zone is vital. We need that continued challenges and not live in a total tunnel vision. Another great video Gabe. Thank You!

I’ve lost some weight with IF and now learning portion control (just doing it and keeping on getting back on it when I’ve failed has led to changes in my eating habits over time!) On the losing weight journey and a decluttering journey I’ve learned to lower my expectations (write two crappy pages a day) and being so perfectionistic. Progress is finally occurring! Now to work on stopping inordinate spending!!! Thank you for these videos so much!! You are very wise!

    I love your videos. You're like a modern day Emerson. One of my favorite take aways from one of your videos was about devoting yourself to a topic deeply for a long period of time -- like 6 months or a year -- reading and learning everything you can about the subject. I passed it along to my AP English students, telling them to reflect on what we read this semester and to choose one author or poet that resonated with them and to dive deeper into their works this summer. As soon as school lets out and I finish this 9 month Bible challenge in May, I'm going to devote myself to getting really good at the uke and reading the works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. In the fall, I am already planning on doing a deep dive into financial literacy -- stepping beyond my Dave Ramsey knowledge and reading what else is out there. Thank you again.

    Never catch a falling cactus.
    Doing yourself damage trying to keep certain things that either don't want to be saved or can't be saved from hitting the ground is the ultimate in foolish. There are always (in my experience) 'little spines' that work you way into your hands and keep on hurting even after the initial pain of catching the cactus in the first place. Pain now, and pain later. Now it can be a challenge to figure out if you have a falling cookie (save it!!) or a cactus. Comes with experience, and knowing what your values are.
    If it's a cactus, let it fall.
    Either you'll be able to lift the bits you need off of the floor one it can't do you any damage, or you'll realize that the cactus is better off on the floor.

    I don't believe life begins at the end of your comfort zone. As soon as you "step out" of your comfort zone, you start to get used to the "new zone", and it becomes your comfort zone. Comfort zone is relative and never ending. That means with every new experience and challenge, your comfort zone broadens, therefore you can never really reach it's end.

    As a subscriber to this and many other (similar) channels, I am impelled to point out something important that often goes unsaid. Those of us who seek guidance from these videos often find great wisdom and inspiration here. Some of us, however, have severe blockages that will not yield to even the best guidance. The best cure for that is to be found, as I found it, (after decades of searching!) in a book called: "Letting Go" by David Hawkins. To the extent that I have habitualized the techniques presented there...that is the extent of my current success in applying the wisdom from this and other motivating videos. I gift this book to all who are open to it, instead of frivolous things. It has made it possible for me to adopt many of your suggestions. Deeply love this channel and its content... but man, I came real close to never watch this episode just because of the thumbnail... there's zero need to get this clickbait/mojolike. It's beneath the intelligence level of your videos. Keep 'em coming tho, great stuff. Had to say someting. :)

    Three DAYS of No talking? Who does that? You must have a lot to say when you do talk!

    He's getting too guru like and commercial. Work hard, Eat Plants, Budget and worship God. Jesus Christ is Lord. That is life. You came with nothing. You will die and leave it all. He needs to know The Truth that sets you Free. Be not deceived.

    Not impressed this with this week's video. You need to be silly now and again
