Man, I think someday you should make a full learning cource from this videos for next generations. There's not so many cahnnels which delivers so valuable information
Im gonna make an sample pack! Only bass lines, I got an Musicman stingray special aniverssary edition, the world needs to work with his incredible sound!
In midi clip, first set grid to 1/16 (CMD 6 on mac), then hover near top of piano roll, wait till you see the speaker icon, then click it wherever you want to start playback. Problem solved.
@SolStateMusic thanks for clarifying. I discovered alt space (mac) in arrangement mode seems to nail it when editing fast, like what's happening in the video
If there are kicks with low-end information playing simultaneously, you just can't skip sidechaining regardless of how good the bass line is; if it meets the kick in certain areas, you still need it. I'm mostly referring to making actual records that are supposed to be loudness competitive and sit well on the radio and Spotify, amongst other songs. But I get your point though, it sounds great even without reaching for sidechaining.
I guess it depends where you're going (up or down). If your root is C2 and you want to go up an octave to C3, you'd pass G2 in the same octave. You can use the fifth from any octave, there are no rules, just whatever sounds best :)
Hey just letting you know that I almost leave the video every time it says “sub for more” in the middle. Just because I think it’s the end of the video.
Who doesn't love a killer bassline?! 🎸
Hope these tips help you funk-it-up!
Bruh killer
I'm the first one to dislike 😌, any.....
Octaves work well in Disco music as well.
Disco octaves are so fun!
@@SolStateMusic Yes dua Lipas is a good example of neo funky bass
I feel like anything dancey could benefit from a couple octave accents.
Octaves are literally in ALL MUSIC... This ignorance is frustrating.
@@TheTylerRobison everyone knows that. What we are trying to say is that some genres accent those octave jumps more than other genres.
6:29 that air bass too cold ❄️

A great tip too is to find a real bass player in your scene too and send them your bass as a guide, they could take it to a whole new level!
These videos are everything... so many amazing mentors and all genres relate...
Thank youuuuu!
Bro these are good techniques, my music has started to sound so much better since I used this.
Great to hear! Go get em!
Really glad you uploaded this. Saw the whole stream as soon as it got uploaded to youtube. Very informative! 8

never thought I'd be taking hip hop bass tips from Mr. Black Diamonds but I'm here for it lol
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Any idea how to start playback from where you click the cursor line? Rather than space playing it from.the start

Scarbee rickenbacker is such a realistic sounding bass

Yes, he is (same as thumb)
@@SolStateMusic sounds good. Great track too bro.
@@EDAPE when did the Grammy's become the standard for good bass lines or bass playing?
@@robinsss not sure why you're asking me this as I didn't say it was. This is a nice patch grammy or no.
Are those actual guitar licks or synth or sample?
Sick loop 👌🏼
What I noticed in this video was how to write a baseline that doesn't rely on side chain compression to get out of the way.

@@costinvaly1 I don't disagree with that either.
With the passing 5ths, is it just the 5th of the root note, but down an octave?
Yes and doesn't have to be down. Up works great to especially if you're doing something funky/disco

@@SolStateMusic Thanks for your content. Always fun to watch how these producers work, even for someone who's not really a producer like me.
I KNOW! Matt Zara did. Lophiile said so in the OG stream
from my memory, lophiile made it himself earlier on in the stream, he just printed it out because it was a couple different tracks
