@Boofsquad To be honest, that is just bashing. They have not released any poly synth by now and if you listen to what people are doing with the BARP, then you may change your mind. And yes - Behringer is bringing back some of the ancient analog synth I could never afford (or would not want to pay for). I love this synth here for its versatility and for its new ways of doing things, but Behringer also has a spot in my heart for giving me the possibility in getting my hands on an OB-XA (clone) ... hopefully.
You are an amazing musician! No matter what tools you choose to use you always deliver! Makes me wanna buy everything you touch but at the same time makes me know that I can make good music with the gear I have. You got a fan in Brazil. Cheers!
This was very much a ‘gateway’ video for me. A gateway to this synth, an introduction/gateway to your music. I revisit this video from time to time. Beautiful stuff.
This device looks gorgeous, sounds amazing as well, could only imagine the possibilities, the opening sounded like a cue for something from NatGeo, very Antartic/Artic sounding, lovely sounds !
I own quite some synths. But I need to be honest. The Summit is by far the best synth made since 10 years or so. It can sound very subtle, deep, dark, fine, airy, sharp, and even analogs come not near when you make it sound analog !
truly is my favorite synth (peak too)...and I've tried a lot. the oscillators are amazing. even though they are digital, they don't sound digital (unless you want them too). and there's enough tools onboard to get away from the "analog" type subtractive sound too. it helps that the onboard effects are quite nice. they become part of the patches, rather than just an afterthought.
@@rbeny of the 2 do you have a favorite? I sold my subsequent37 and DX7 last year (which I dearly miss) and replaced my studio with all acoustic instruments (guitar, bass, hand drums, etc). Recently bought the volca keys, however, to fill my longing for subtle pads and atmospheric textures.. I'll see how that goes. But both these novation synths you've showcased have gotten me really into the idea of going back to some electronic gear more seriously. I am absolutely in love with the peak ambient II video and now this one. Kind regards, A big fan.
Novation is simply awesome. I hope they can stay on this level of evolution. This one’s pricetag is a bit heavy for me but maybe a used a few years later... if not, well, There is Peak to take a step to the right direction ;). Btw, Nice playing, congrats!
truly an amazing place. I had wanted to go for most of my life and had such high expectations and it was even more spectacular than I could have imagined. I'm already planning another trip.
Really like that last line. I was going to say as many great things as you did w the Peak, I hope they hooked you up w the Summit. Not surprised you are using one. 2nd bit just came in. Very nice
Hey, this sounds incredible! I just got my own Summit and love it, BUT I find the output noise floor is very high compared to my other gear. It doesn't seem like that's the case here, what are you doing to reduce noise?
no noise floor issues at all, didn't have any with peak either. the only thing I can think of is gain-staging. the only time I can hear any noise is if I crank the volume. are you running into a mixer/using the headphones?
the oscillator engine is basically the same. the biggest difference is summit has an additional filter, which is nice to have. there are some other small differences as well, but they can essentially make the same sounds.
some of the artists that inspire me: Tim Hecker, Grouper, Julianna Barwick, Loscil, Benoît Pioulard, Marcus Fischer, Belong, Fennesz, Ian Hawgood....I could list artists all day. i would head to bandcamp and search the 'ambient' tag.
Awesome! I also hope your patches will be released by Novation. Primarily, however, I hope that the Summit itself will be eventually released! Delivery date (in Germany) is being postponed and postponed and ... :((
This video inspired me to buy one of these - beautiful piece! May I ask some advice as to where to start to create these evolving pads please? I am not a fan of the presets and bought one of these purely for ambient pads.. did you design this from the init patches and oscillators? Weeks in and I’m still no further forward I feel like giving up :( . Even recommendations for modulation sources/destinations? Any advice from anybody would be greatly and truly appreciated. Thanks
here's some good news - my patches (including the ones on this video) come with the synth! they are only in the multi-patch section, but if you go through those, that should give you a good idea of what's going on in these kind of patches. all the patches were done from init/scratch. basically I would try to find a base sound I liked, picking a main oscillator sound, messing with the filter/fx, and then would slowly change/add other parameters. if something sounded good as I turned the knob, I would add in modulation for that parameter. for me, that involves using noise as a mod source for osc1 and the filter, and subtle modulation on the pitch and filter and bringing in other oscs in the mixer. my goal was to try to use modulation in moderation, slow subtle movements as opposed to large sweeping ones. hope that helps a little bit!
I believe my patches are available under the multi-patches section of Components. Edit: they also ship with the synth, so by default they would also be under the multi-patches that come with the synth
@@rbeny interesting! Three multi banks are included with the synth. Factory Multi Bank A includes your patches according to the notes, but it does not say which specific patches are yours (there are over 100).
fingers crossed that Novation will make the Summit patches compatible with Peak (I heard this was a possibility a while ago, but nothing since). otherwise, if I ever get a Peak again I will make them myself.
thanks! the noise gen can be used as a mod source for oscillator 1, as well as the filter cutoff. that's my favorite trick for giving a patch a noisy feel. on this particular patch, I'm also using looping mod envelopes to bring in swells of white noise. I just tried to emulate what I heard when listening to a waterfall
I just wanted to say that I love all of your ambient work, it’s beautiful. I aspire to create music like yours. In a super fast paced world, it’s your kind of music that reminds people to just slow down and be in the moment, so thank you. I have to ask, what is it that draws you in to making ambient soundscapes such as this? Why ambient and why not another genre of electronic music?
thank you very much for the kind words. I like to compare ambient music to painting or photography. both the creation process and the listening. the way you can look at a picture and come up with your own interpretation for it's meaning...or maybe you just see what's on the surface level. it's all about mood, tone, color, emotion. I think that largely applies to all instrumental music, but I'm drawn to ambient in particular because it can be both background and foreground music. you can put it on while reading, or listen on a deeper level. music with percussion/drums can be more demanding of attention.
Thanks! I'm using a Panasonic Lumix G7 with their 25mm (50mm equivalent) F1.7 lens. Pretty awesome camera for 4K video for the price (especially used). The lens is pretty nice as well. Just wish it was a little wider, but it captures light beautifully.
Nice job! I had the Peak and sent it back due to a higher than normal noise floor. I understand that part of this piece utilizes noise to heighten the waterfall effect, but how is the noise floor on this unit with ambient patches that do not use noise in the patch? Thanks for posting
I can't say that I've had any noise floor issues. both my peak and summit have a ton of headroom, the only way I notice the noise floor is if I have everything cranked to a point where I wouldn't normally set the volumes/patch volumes. I understand it can be a tricky subject for some people, but it's been a non-issue for myself
thanks! it's certainly a synth engine capable of a wide variety of sounds. I tend to like synth sounds that sound less analog and more out there or acoustic-esque. Peak/Summit can definitely go there with a bit of work
Hi! Did they release them? A disappointing thing with Components is that there seems to be so little that really takes advantage of the Summit’s capabilities. All the patches there seem to be for the Peak, and the factory originals are not super-interesting on the whole.
the patches are on components (and should already be installed by default on the synth), but only as part of the multi-patches. I've reached out to see if the patches can also be put on components as single patches and as modified patches for the peak, but unfortunately my contact at Novation no longer works for them
@@rbeny That's a shame: that would be a good move, but it's nice to have found them now, thanks! I also wanted to mention that, as with some other synths like the Wavestate, Logic's interaction via midi with the Summit is a bit weird sometimes. Anything arp based gets screwed up, and there were some other unwanted effects - which is why I said the factory presets sounded a but dull to me. Now they are sounding much much better. especially yours! It seems to be to do with sending clock from Logic to the synth, but I haven't quite got it solved 100% yet, so am tending to unplug the USB midi most of the time. And I'm wondering whether to invest time in learning Ableton or Studio One. Anyway, thanks again and keep up the great work!

yes! they are just hidden in the multi-timbral patches. they should already come loaded on the factory synth, but they are also on the Components app as well. I may or may not have gone around to various Guitar Centers in my area to make these patches the default when the synth turns on ;)
This is really special, to me it sounds like an Icelandic deep winter morning, totally incredible.
