That is really great; what a very creative way to get someone to do the right thing. Can you imagine if this happened in real life? I would love to see something like this go viral.
Well he finally got justice for his wife in forcing the company to pay compensation, by haunting the ship, which if it had continued would have cost the line a lot more in lost revenue, "revenge is a dish best served cold" as the husband can attest !!!!! great little tale
Good to have you “on board” again, Simon! Great story to “launch” your comeback! Heh, heh.... Seriously, enjoyed the witty story, and it’s wonderful to hear your unrivaled voice once again!!!
That was a great quirky little story. Expertly delivered as usual. I note that reading of the comments you’re now on Audible which I do remember recommending that you go in that direction. Glad you took my advice.
Thank you AOB. Yes indeed, I've uploaded a couple of individual stories so far and am hoping to have a collection of Victorian and Edwardian ghost stories ready for the autumn... I'll post on the community tab here when it's available.
Finally got home from work to listen. I've been thinking about this all day and you didn't disappoint Simon. I loved this one... a creepy, and engaging little ghost story. Thanks! 😊
One more thing I have to thank you for, in addition to all the enjoyment your reading gives me, is introducing me to the author Robert Barr. I got an anthology of his short stories from the library and am thoroughly entertained. His diction is as friendly and easy as Dickens and he has the descriptive pallet of Balzac but with such a light hearted sarcasm that he is winsome and charming. Thank you so much!
@@BitesizedAudio Keeping very well and all the better for your latest. I wrote something for you, Simon - it's pretty groovy - but your contact email seems to have gone. I hope you weren't getting pestered?!

Great story and storytelling! Never fancied travelling by ship 🚢 have heard so many real life stories of people disappearing and the company hushing it up. shudder. The author certainly was ahead of his time 😁
I hadn't come across this story before. It's rather like a comedy version of 'The Upper Berth' by F. Marion Crawford. Excellently read and very enjoyable.
I didn't even know you were "away"!! so glad you're back. this is a wonderful story to return with. thanks much and can't wait for more :) 🌷 I noticed that you said below that there are more stories from this author as I am very intrigued.

An accident happened on board the Gibrontus some years ago which was of small importance to the general public, but of some moment to Richard Keeling--for it killed him. The poor man got only a line or two in the papers when the steamer arrived at New York, and then they spelled his name wrong.

Doggie and I enjoyed this very much. Both our tongues were firmly implanted in our cheeks. Refreshing change of pace; now for some Welsh cakes for breakfast - mine, not his.
One way of getting justice for your family, if you've passed away on a voyage & the company treats your loved one with such disrespect, good one for the ghost 😂❤
Yes indeed, that's the name he gave it! I don't know if it's a satirical reference to a now forgotten real-life shipping company at the time (the most famous ones were the White Star Line and Cunard, but there were several other smaller companies) or Barr just liked the name... perhaps another commenter can enlighten us?
I did a bit of research... Hot cross buns are made for the end of Lent. The passion of Christ is over, He is Risen, and Christians can celebrate by eating festive foods. The sugared cross is representative of the Resurrection.

I’ve been going through your stuff like crazy! To say thank you but I don’t know if you’re going to be reading comments at the moment….. you may not be in the mood. I would like to help you by recommending a book but By Neville Goddard called feeling is the secret, and a lot of other books he has written about the power of the imagination to create what you want by focusing upon what you want as if it’s already happened! He goes into great detail in this very short book. Another one I would recommend is “at your command” by the same author because it’s only just over an hour long and read by Josiah I think it will really help your situation and you will get your desired results and everything will go back to normal! You owe it to yourself to find out And what normally happens is people do you get the desired result but then they think maybe it would’ve happened anyway! And that’s probably what will happen with you, but when you try again and again and you don’t even need to believe in just need to feel the feelings of how it would be if things turned out exactly where you wanted and he gives amazing detail as to how to do this and what state of mind to get in et cetera et cetera! Maybe this has all happened for a reason, so that you can find out the power of your imagination and quantum physicists agree with everything in these books because Just by observing an something like an atom it changes the way it acts even when done from a different locality…. And just think of the placebo effect et cetera! Give it a try! For yourself! It has helped me in healing my liver and my life!! I bless you with a successful outcome!
