Thanks for watching! Has a minimalist mindset improved any areas of your life? (Also, if you're looking for a refreshing summer drink recommendation, be sure to watch the end!)
I have followed you for ~8 years, and our tastes/values have evolved so similarly! I did a huge decluttering last year and it has aided so much in the improvement of my mental health. One less anxiety trigger :)
This is what I needed to see today. I’ve just given up a 2 bed apartment and downsizing to a teeny tiny one. I am about to minimalise my life! Thanks for sharing this! Xx
With the pandemic I have adopted the “use up all the stuff you already have” so instead of getting through half of my products and buying new I am using up everything.. I’m down to my sample size products now! It feels good! I plan on keeping this going throughout my house for sure!
This is what I've been doing to! I've even been using the same candle until it is fully gone, even if I am sick of the scent. I get so excited when I finish something now!
It seems so logical! I am doing the same, I use up and then buy new one. I also get annoyed when I watch all of this decluttering videos and some people just throw full products away for the sake of getting rid of them and having less stuff.
Growing up my parents kinda hoarded, and it wasn't until I lived in a dorm room that I realized I could benefit from a minimalist lifestyle! I love knowing that what I own is just enough and every piece has a well intentioned place in my home.
same! my parents are kinda hoarders and after living in a dorm i realized what i actually use and need everyday, hence changing to minimalist lifestyle
i’m wanting to do this for that reason, but when i try to go through things in our house there’s just so much stuff (ie: junk my mom saves for “just in case”) it makes me so overwhelmed it kicks my anxiety into overdrive 😔
@@shinysparkilylights do you share a home? You can always start on your own spaces and work really small. Maybe just small areas like one drawer at a time or a pencil case, jewellery box, sock drawer. I started small but when I get anxious I need to be busy and deal with it by being a bit manic non stop active. So for me I do huge organisations and declutters when I'm struggling or I used to. Now it's kind of evened out that I don't have anything to do that's a big job but also my space tends to keep me calm. I still struggle somedays but my new tactic is cleaning or going out walking. I hope you get there in a way that works for you and helps you most x
I just finished cleaning the living room and the kitchen. I am known as the most lazy person in the family. I am often in my phone or sleeping, lying down on the floor. It must be the lockdown affecting me, because I just cleaned without being told! If my parents hear about this, they'll be in shock. Anyway, all that cleaning made me realize how much work I have with all this junk that I don't even use. So I threw out useless things and gave away old clothes I barely use and don't use anymore. The less stuff I own, the less mess I have to clean.
hey allison, i love your videos!!! they're all so straightforward, informative, and i learn something NEW in every single one of them. can you do a video on what's in your wardrobe??? keep up the great work!!
The last 2 years I’ve been adapting to the minimalist lifestyle. I went through my entire house cleaning out “stuff” I don’t need or use and I realized that I could breathe better because I don’t have this extra stuff weighing me down. Whenever I go to a store and see something that grabs my attention and I want to purchase it, I ask myself if I really need it, it seriously helps me save a ton of money. I recently gave birth and I need to go through my house again before my baby starts crawling and get rid of more things I don’t need. Thank you for posting these kinds of videos, you’re a true inspiration.
I’d love to see your wardrobe now. Good quality clothes that serve many purposes and are more minimalist. I think it’s an Achille’s heel for many of us and I’d love to see your ideas about it!
Thanks for making this video. I was big on minimalism when Marie Kondo's Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up book first came out and became super low waste and minimalist and in the recent years I've sort of fallen off the wagon and got dragged back into owning more makeup and clothing then I could ever need. I'm feeling the stress I felt before with clutter everywhere and drawers bursting with clothes. You've given me some motivation to rekindle my love for clean counters
I love how minimalism has become the norm, I love giving myself a work uniform (currently work in an office - working from home due to covid) wearing the same three pieces keeps me from comparing myself to the office outfits everyone else is wearing (I feel like this feeling is common among women in the office workforce), and purging my closets and stuff feels so great and it just keeps getting easier and easier, the mobility and freedom from stuff is truly priceless for those wanting to travel! I'm about to move to another city and I'm attempting to half my stuff so moving will be easier!
I started watching your videos when I was in high school, interested in your videos about makeup, nail polish, and more. Now that I'm turning 25 this year, I'm glad to have grown with the content on your channel. Love your attitude towards 'stuff' and travel!
I can relate to this video so much! I'm slowly clearing my belongings - little by little. And every time I get rid of a big of "stuff", I feel like I can breathe a little better. Ahhh~
Hi Allison! I know this would be different for your channel but a video suggestion: food! Are you “minimalist” in a sense when it comes to food, what are your favorite travel snacks to pack, do you like to save money and cook when traveling or splurge on local cuisine, your favorite things to cook at home? :)
Since we moved into our house in January we’ve donated or sold or given away so many things and it feels amazing!!! Everything has its place in our home and we love it.
I found your account today and I love the lifestyle habits you live by and your financial videos are extremely helpful. I’m 18 and want to be financially smart and start investing. So you explaining these things in a simple way is like a breath of fresh air because I can understand it all!
I'm minimal and my husband and daughter are maximal lol, like two tornadoes and I can't get them on board. Needles to say I'm constantly cleaning and picking up and often frustrated. 😒
Really liking the video so far - 1/2 way in and I loved 1) having to “clean before you clean” is the worst! I feel I have to do that often and I don’t even have that much stuff 😂 I just wanna wipe my counters down but then have random books or mail on it and it irks me because it turns a simple 1 minute task into a 3-5 muhte one. Note to self: don’t let that happen! 2) Stuff is just stuff. My mom always said people are more important than things and I agree. Want to spend more time connecting and less time worrying about just stuff. 3) I love that you said we naturally don’t like clutter. So true, I find that people are either embarrassed by their cluttered homes and don’t want anybody seeing it, or feel guilty and anxious/ overwhelmed by their own clutter. Either way it doesn’t seem to make anybody feel comfortable and at their best most productive self!
I used to do the same! "I only need THIS item and my wardrobe will be complete", then I go to Instagram, see something beautiful and immediately need that thing to once again have a complete wardrobe! It used to be a never ending cycle!
Im very minimal in the kitchen. I dont buy kitchen gadgets.I dont like to waste any food either, so my groceries are minimal because I like to go out maybe once twice a week. We meal plan. Buy sales. Eat leftovers. Rarely buy sodas or bottled to go drinks. Dont buy trash bags, paper towels, candles, body sprays, frozen meals, prep cut items, store pastries, disposable cutlery, leftover containers. What else can I cut?
Great video! Completely understand the looking in your closet and not knowing what to wear. When I travel across the sea, I realize how minimal people live and it really motivates me and has been motivating me for the past 2 years. I watch some vloggers and they have some huge houses and I always think that maybe I could get a bigger house. But I learn every day that I love my house and it's already pretty big for me and my husband and our 2 pets. And while I'm not completely minimal, there are some things that I have gone minimal with and some things that I'm still working on, but I'll get there one day! Thanks for the motivation once again!
I absolutely love your series on minimalism, I'm curious what your capsule wardrobe looks like !!? Seeing other people who have passionately adopted minimalism as their way of living is something so beautiful and it's so incredibly sweet seeing THEIR version of it. Also your new background is AMAZING.
I am a new fan of yours !!! Minimalist like you !!! I am Colombian but I am learning English and living in NY ... So please do not forget to activate the subtitles it is a great help for me! Thank you and I love your content!
Hey Alison, Im following you since a couple of years now and I feel like you and I evolved the exact same way. I embrace minimalist for the exact same reasons as you and I never felt more like myself than now. Cant wait till your next video!
This content is AMAZING. I’ve also been making minimalist switches for years. I have always loved fashion though so I vowed to not buy any new clothes, all my clothes come from thrift stores or websites like posh mark, and I’m trying really hard to repurpose things in my wardrobe rather than buy stuff. Your last video actually gave me food for thought that stuck with me long after the video. Like the thing about sales- if I didn’t want it before it was on sale then I don’t need it now!
Allison, I would love to hear your thoughts on being a minimalist in your relationship. Does your husband share your views? If not, how do you communicate your need/desire to have less clutter and adopt these practices in a shared living space. ❤️❤️
Hi Allison, thanks a lot for creating this content on minimalism. I find that it’s encouraged me to think carefully about future purchases (i especially love the one in one out rule you shared in the earlier video) and consider how I can declutter my home and wardrobe. I completely agree that a minimalist approach brings you joy with the additional space (and savings!) I hope you are going well and staying sane in quarantine 🙃
Great video Allison!! I am moving from a house that I have been living for almost 20 years and I have accumulated so many things over the years. I have made a promise to myself that in the new house I want to have a minimalist approach. My decoration style is already minimalist, but I struggle with my wardrobe. Can you please make a video of how to create a capsule wardrobe? Thanks 😊
Everything you say is true!! It makes way for more beautiful things that you actually use and treasure! Not to mention your house is always clean if unexpected guests pop in hehe! I can pretty much account for nearly every item in my home and it's so nice knowing I don't have drawers full of junk :)
Some great points! I recently moved to my second country in the last two years (from the US, moved to China and now we’re in Cambodia) and being able to pack up my entire life in two medium sized suitcases has been really life changing and enlightening for me.
This is hands down the best video on minimalism I've seen on UA-cam, and it re-inspired me. Thank you! All your points are spot on. And if I loved your channel before, now it's becoming one of the top top ones, and your personality is what makes it all so good. It's harder to be minimalistic with my creative work and hobbies that require tools and supplies, but aside from that, I do my best to keep reducing my things for the same exact reasons you mention. Less stress - more clear mind :)
I've started my minimalist journey some years ago but I am still a little bit away from my goals. My partner is a buyer. I'm the minimalist. Things not always go smooth between the two because of that. I can't really understand the value of spending more on physical video games, or havinf a ton of dress shirts that you just don't wear anymore. My struggle these days are my skirts. I don't tend to use skirts. Like ever. The only skirt I ever wore with pride was a anckle lenght skirt that emulated something out of the victorian period. I loved that skirt to death... Literally. She died on my body. :) So now I'm stuck with skirts that I don't plan to wear but that I visually love to look at and... Well, you know how that will go. They will end on the charity shop. My whole minimalist journey was like this so you can see why it took me so long to get this far.
I just started my journey! After leaving my abusive alcoholic husband I really needed a refresh and I started my inst for my journey! Thank you for the inspiration. @houston.journey.to.minimalism
Even when I go away I pack all the what if’s and end up wearing the same things as long as I can! I haven’t vacationed in a year but shortly after my trip I started truly decluttering and working towards my version of minimalism and so far so good:)
Hubert's Lemonade is awesome! I have been watching a lot of minimalism videos recently and starting to feel I want to move into that direction! I have so much stuff that feels like it's not worth having anymore! During this quarantine I got my clothes almost down to 15 days worth of clothes! I keep looking for which minimalist I should hit the subscribe button on!
Allison, I recently discovered your channel and I love your content. You have a depth of character that is rare and I appreciate that about you. May God bless you.
The only thing I am willing to buy, some consider as clutter, are books. I don't know how it works but they calm me down. As someone who suffers from anxiety that really helps 😅
Love love love your videos! I am getting into the lifestyle of becoming a minimalist but with 2 toddlers and a husband that loves to shop it’s kind of difficult. He gets frustrated if his stuff is not where it was or if I wanna get rid of stuff that we don’t need at all. But when he’s gone for work I get rid of them and he never knows.
I've been practicing minimalism that last few years and it has been so good to learn what is and what isn't all that important. I am currently learning about the capsule wardrobe having read a book by Courtney Carver on this. This one is a bit tough, but I know what you mean when the next season rolls around and you want to shop for new apparel. Gotta focus on that next.
Loved it! Saves me time every day, money every month and provides a platform of extra time to spend with my family...instead of organising, searching for misplaced/lost stuff and cleaning around all of that crap I don't actually need anyway. 😂
That lemonade you showed made me laugh. I bought one in Wisconsin's Door county a week ago while on vacation and thought it might be a local thing. Sure was good on a hot day. I also reuse the glass bottle. Thanks for your advice. This is one of the best explanations I have heard so far.
omg... when you mentioned about hotel decor, now i totally get it why hotel is my fave place ever to stay. it's bcos of the sleek and tidy interior! i started being a minimalism when i study abroad. i only keep the essentials and tbh, i hate when i have so many options on clothes bcos in the end, im gonna choose the one i frequently or confident in wearing in lol
Also I really feel what you’re saying about freedom to move. I’ve lived in a 500 sq ft apartment in Boston for years and just moved to a new city. I’m looking into houses but wanted to live in an apartment for a little while first just to make sure I liked it here. If I had more stuff it would be daunting to move twice in a year but I can easily do it in a day and I have like 5 pieces of heavy furniture... just one less thing to stress about
Love all the minimalism talk, but more than that, I LOVE this background set up! Not a fan of the new plan backdrop trend that's happening around UA-cam.
I'm not a minimalist, but I think I can still learn valuable tips (I have been able to reduce some things). I do think there is a difference between a messy house, and a house that has stuff (more than a minimalist would), but is clean. Yes, it can still be cluttered with things, but I know I don't have stuff strewn all over the floor lol.
Lol so the beginning felt like a rude awakening for me 🙃 I really do love buying cute little seasonal treats. But honestly, I don’t need it. And open space is so lovely at home. It’s so much easier to work and clean. Plus... with the pandemic, I’m telelworking. Which means a clean, tidy, organized space is super important ❤️ thank you for these tips. It’s a long term goal but you give some tangible strategies
I decided to do a ‘no new clothes’ year, so only bought second hand which massively changed my attitude to buying clothes. I felt like I got time back, because I wasn’t mindlessly browsing “in case there’s something I like” in a store or online, I just stopped going into the stores. I would buy on eBay, so I I’d effectively find an item and have 7 days until the auction ended to make a decision to bid, the extra time between seeing and purchasing forced me to contemplate whether it was worth it (most of the time It stopped me from bidding). Is also feel amazing when I found something great for really cheap!
Love this! I did something similar a couple years ago - I did a "no new clothes" ban from January to June (first 6 months of the year). I was shocked at the time saved from not browsing websites, and I really did save a lot of money when I drew a hard line that under no circumstances would I purchase clothing (unless it was something absolutely essential, like underwear, you know!)
If the idea of cutting back seems impossible, give yourself a trial period of sorts. Last year around September I decided to put myself on a makeup “no-buy” for the rest of the year & once those months passed I realized I didn’t actually miss the items, I only craved the excitement of getting something new. I still haven’t bought a new makeup product since & have saved so much money!
I always need pep talks too - whenever I'm about to declutter I get on UA-cam and try to hype myself up watching people's decluttering/minimalism videos!
I love your videos! Would you be able to do more minimalism videos? Or even how to be minimal in home decor? Thank you for all the effort you put into your videos! 💕
I just recently decided to become a minimalist. No outside influences, just me going out into nature and realizing that everything I had in my car was all I needed to make me happy. From that point on I decided that I’m going to get rid of at least 85% off my belongings. I am currently selling my stuff online. Might take some time, but I already feel better just by making the decision to declutter my life. Some people might call it a midlife crisis. I call it midlife clarity.
Minimalism has its roots in the obscure scripture passage found in Proverbs 30:8-9. It's the Prayer of Agur and delivers the secret for finding balance and purpose. In many ways, the opposite of The Prayer of Jabez.
I have dipped my toes into minimalism. I started with analysing my.habits and realized i was spending thousands on makeup which i never used but hoarded. I now focus more on whether i really need if and only then buy if. Also.with clothes, i would keep old clothes that belonged to my pre-pregnancy fantasy self, and no way aill ever be used so.i.cleaned my wardrobe out.my.kitchen and my baby girls clothes are two areas where i need to docus moee
You backdrop is stunning! Is this a room in your house? I am so distracted by how amazing this looks! These are important tips. Love how much you’ve grown over the years. I’ve retired my Market Peach candles, too 😂. This time at home has allowed me to really look around my house and decide what I need and what I don’t need.
Thanks so much! I've been playing around with new filming setups recently and I'm so glad to hear this one is a winner! And same - all of this time at home has me even more aware of the things I own and use vs. what I don't.
When I put my home on the market, my realtor ask me to take half of the things off my walls and surfaces. I noticed immediately how much much calmer I felt! In decorating my new home on many occasions I would want to purchase things just to fill a space and have stopped myself and now even if I put one thing too many in a space or on a wall I immediately feel uncomfortable.
A Huge fan from India 🇮🇳 I Just come across your Videos in youtube while searching travel vlog..... And you know what... I liked all your videos💙 Everything is beautiful 💚 I saw your all travel vlog which Drags me more close to the Natural Beauty ...🌍💚 Keep your Good work continue
I loved this video, I just like listening when you talk:) I find minimalism very inspiring and I’m the same that I’d rather go to a trip thain have stuff. I would love a video where you share your whole travel bucket list🤩
Allison Anderson hi, I’ve seen that and loved it! I just thought maybe talking about more places and share your list you talked having on your phone ☺️🥰
Adopting minimalistic habits into my life has saved me a lot of money, which has enabled me to start traveling and saving money to buy property in the near future (hopefully)
Looking at the comments, am I the only guy watching this? 😳 Allison, thanks for the video. I listened to this while going through a dreaded closet full of things I bought and either wore once or never. Sad thing is, one of those items was a $100 sweater from REI but it didn’t fit well so I never wore it. It’s been sitting in the closet for FOUR years. You’ve inspired me to take the next step on this thing and let the mistake be that.. a mistake. Learn from it and move on 😁. Great video and tips

Can you make a capsule wardrobe video? I'd love to see how you specifically go about the process!!
Yes I want her to make a capsule wardrobe video so bad!
I LOVE this idea! And best places to shop for lasting items
YAS! I need help in this area
Yes please!

I'ld love to adopt the minimalist lifestyle...so stress free
It really does help

Minimalism helps me manage my anxiety I've found. It's very beneficial for my mental health :)
I would have to agree 😊

Your channel is my latest faaaaav ever since quarantine and now beyond.
Would you mind doing an updated apt tour and wardrobe tour 💕💕
Hi🙋 Abigail Hansen
I have slowly began adopting a minimalist lifestyle and love the changes. I would love to see a home tour and a wardrobe tour!
I just finished cleaning the living room and the kitchen. I am known as the most lazy person in the family. I am often in my phone or sleeping, lying down on the floor. Thank you! Maybe once all of this stay-home stuff is over and I'm not in athleisure and sweats all day, I'll work on some wardrobe content 😂
Allison Anderson definitely include the athleisure and sweats stuff too!! 😆 I’m all about the practical comfy stuff 😁❤️

Yep.
I’m still in the *use up what you have* phase of attaining minimalism but seeing my shelves and drawers slowly becoming emptier is SO satisfying!
I can relate to this video so much! I'm slowly clearing my belongings - little by little. And every time I get rid of a big of "stuff", I feel like I can breathe a little better. Ahhh~
Please do a home tour and wardrobe tour of your minimalist lifestyle so we can see and get inspiration from you 😊
I would LOVE to see your home now that you’ve minimized what you have to see what it looks like!
I miss the whats in my bag videos! Woulf love to see what you carry as a minimalist!
Yes, I was thinking the same exact thing 😂

I have always loved fashion though so I vowed to not buy any new clothes, all my clothes come from thrift stores or websites like posh mark, and I’m trying really hard to repurpose things in my wardrobe rather than buy stuff. Your last video actually gave me food for thought that stuck with me long after the video. Like the thing about sales- if I didn’t want it before it was on sale then I don’t need it now!
Can you do an apartment or closet tour video please! Show us how minimalism is shown in your home x
Allison, I would love to hear your thoughts on being a minimalist in your relationship. Does your husband share your views? If not, how do you communicate your need/desire to have less clutter and adopt these practices in a shared living space. ❤️❤️
Loved this video! I'd love to see a house tour including organization of drawers, closet etc. Culling out and simplicity is so cathartic.
Yes!!! I'm slowly getting better at this. Removing items is the hardest part... But it is just stuff!
So now I'm stuck with skirts that I don't plan to wear but that I visually love to look at and... Well, you know how that will go. They will end on the charity shop.
My whole minimalist journey was like this so you can see why it took me so long to get this far.
This is so accurate! I may just send my friend this video when they ask me why I prefer this lifestyle. Thanks, Allison!
Thanks for watching!
That suitcase example makes SO MUCH SENSE!! Thank you for this!
In the process of decluttering my home and I love it!
I've started minimalizing and updating my things too. I want to save my money for trips and have fewer nice things :D
I’ve downsized my clothing and started selling them on Poshmark! Great platform to get rid of your goods and to make some money from it!
Great video! I would really like to see some room tours to see the practical effect of minimalism on your spaces.
It’s really nice seeing this video. I feel like the attitude I’ve had around consumerism has followed the same arc as your own.
I just started my journey! After leaving my abusive alcoholic husband I really needed a refresh and I started my inst for my journey! Thank you for the inspiration.
@houston.journey.to.minimalism
Even when I go away I pack all the what if’s and end up wearing the same things as long as I can! I haven’t vacationed in a year but shortly after my trip I started truly decluttering and working towards my version of minimalism and so far so good:)
LOVING the change in background!
Love this Allison! I started watching you back in the beauty guru days, and now having grown up with you, watching these videos is so much better! 👏🏽
Would be super interested in you talking about wardrobe staples/ brands that are your current favorite
It’s true “stuff is stuff” like who cares.
Allison, I recently discovered your channel and I love your content. You have a depth of character that is rare and I appreciate that about you. May God bless you.
Love these videos! Can you do a home tour video so we can see how you decorate and utilize space in your house?
I agree. I need to get rid of junk in my house.
Same!! I have 3-4 favorite outfits that I feel best in, and I tend to wash and wear those almost exclusively.
I love your channel! It is so helpful! May God bless you more! 🧡
Agree with you. Still working on it. Doing major declutter now and it's not easy. Needed your pep talk. 💜😻🌸⛸
I LOVE the background for this video :) And loving your hair at this length!
I would love to see a video about your history of jobs and how you got to the jobs you have now!!
I love the video, inspiring:) I am on my journey to minimalist mindset and I find it reaally makes life better
Just got to the end, I love that lemonade brand, too, so good!
Thanks so much! I've been playing around with new filming setups recently and I'm so glad to hear this one is a winner! And same - all of this time at home has me even more aware of the things I own and use vs. what I don't.
Loved this video Alison!! Keep em coming !! Xx
This is a sign, I need to improve my life
Well said. Thanks. Lisa
You were and always will be my favorite beauty guru. I loved those videos soooooooo much
When I put my home on the market, my realtor ask me to take half of the things off my walls and surfaces. I noticed immediately how much much calmer I felt! In decorating my new home on many occasions I would want to purchase things just to fill a space and have stopped myself and now even if I put one thing too many in a space or on a wall I immediately feel uncomfortable.
Yes it 's true
A Huge fan from India 🇮🇳
I Just come across your Videos in youtube while searching travel vlog..... And you know what... I liked all your videos💙

I saw your all travel vlog which Drags me more close to the Natural Beauty ...🌍💚
Keep your Good work continue
Love your videos so much! Would you ever do a minimalist home tour? XO
I loved this video, I just like listening when you talk:) I find minimalism very inspiring and I’m the same that I’d rather go to a trip thain have stuff. I would love a video where you share your whole travel bucket list🤩
Thanks for watching! I have a travel bucket list video up already, posted about 6 months ago 😄
Allison Anderson hi, I’ve seen that and loved it! I just thought maybe talking about more places and share your list you talked having on your phone ☺️🥰
i love being a minimalist.
Adopting minimalistic habits into my life has saved me a lot of money, which has enabled me to start traveling and saving money to buy property in the near future (hopefully)
Looking at the comments, am I the only guy watching this? 😳
Allison, thanks for the video.
