I went to his concert where he performed this prior to going to boot camp in 2007. They put this music video on every Sunday for church. My eyes burned from the salt and sweat on my face mixing with the tears swelling and pouring down my eyes. I served 11 years afterwards. This song among others hit me hard till today. Mark Schultz he's my son is another one that hits hard for me. Five finger death punch too far gone and wrong side of heaven are a couple of others that hits so hard for me.
This song was played after church every Sunday while I was in bootcamp. It became an anthem for us. First time I heard it jn 10yrs and still remembered every word.
This song means a lot to me. My father died in Vietnam. I went to the gulf war 20 years later. I was badly injured. My mum sent me letters too. And I still remember coming home to my mother carrying all her letters. This song could have been about me.
Ive been subscribed for a while and I just now saw this reaction. Ive been sleeping I guess. This is one of my favorite songs and artists. I served 6 years in the army and am blessed to never had to write a letter from war. But beautiful reaction bro.
The first time I heard this my nephew was in Iraq. It had just started so I stayed in the car to hear it before I went in the house and I cried and cried and I still cry every time I hear it. If you don't get emotional you aren't human. I do the same with videos of soldiers coming home. To all thank you for your service.
Mark actually wrote this song in honor of his great-grandmother and her 3 sons. The sons all fought in World War 2, two made it back quickly, but the youngest remained until the war was over. I believe he found the letters in the attic and was inspired to write the song, which has won many awards, and the video you're watching was filmed to honor today's troops as well as veterans the those who never made it home. He ever performed the song for President Bush was very loudly received I believe outside the Pentagon as he began this song.
Great reaction, D! As the mom of a former Marine, nothing was sweeter than having him come home after each deployment. I always said I've never been more proud and more scared in my life! Thank you for always showing appreciation for our military. They really do appreciate it!
Thank you for your love of military AND first responders! As Cassimafan stated most of the story is 100% but, a few details were off. Mark discovered his grandmother's diaries after her passing and got hooked on the story. Then asked his aunt if she had the corresponding letters... they were able to piece the story together from there. Mark Schultz is an incredibly gifted and talented Christian artist. As most here commented they saw this in boot camp on a regular basis. The video was made as a tribute to all those who have and who will serve. Mark was invited by the DOD to perform this and other songs from his Christian catalog. He played within the courtyard of the famed building and windows started opening, people on their breaks started filling the vast space, and people were singing Christian music in the middle of the Pentagon courtyard. It was an amazing day for Jesus!
We listened to this at church every sunday in basic training for the Air Force....there are multiple videos of it on UA-cam if you want to see how much this song is loved amongst the military. Just use this song title and Lackland AFB and youll see what I mean.
I Love Mark Shultz...... I am so glad you reacted to this video... one of my favorites by him. Another one you should listen to is "He's my son" and "Walking her home" Incredible songs and voice
I was thinking: when she sees a car pull up at the end she probably thought it was someone bringing the news that her son was dead before she realized it wasn't her son.. It looks like what I've always thought a scene like that would start our as
The original lyrics for the final part were "BRING HIM HOME" "BRING HIM HOME" but that was written as an earnest prayer to GOD.. from the LOVED ONES.. But he did not want anyone to think that he was being political. He understood that there was a job to do. NO matter what your thoughts on war were.. !! And MAKE IT HOME.. ECHOS THE CRY OF ALL OF US..
I recommend Alyissa lies If you haven’t already seen it and Jasmine Mcguin Man of the War both you’ll need tissues for! He was walking her home is a good song too! And The Call by Matt Kennon, sorry for all the recommendations 😅 all these songs are awesome and I wanted you to listen to them too.
I'm late to the party here, but I'm glad I got to see this reaction. Don't worry about those allergies. Mine also have a tendency to act up every time I hear this song. Thank you for your support and respect for all of us who have served. As for your opinion that the greatest sacrifice a person can make is their life, even the Bible agrees. John 15:13 says "No greater love hath any man than that he lay down his life for friends."

We watched this in Basic on Sundays in the chapel and it hit home every time. Hits you right in the feels.
If I recall correctly, Mark Shultz wrote this song about his grandfather and his mother.
His great grandmother
@@lukeferrell5242 "His mother" as in his grandfather's mother.😉
Mark Schultz tells powerful stories through music!
No greater love than a friend that lays down their life for yours.

This song was written about his own great-grandmother writing letters to her sons in the war.
I appreciate you bro.
