This man saved my life. I was in and out of incarceration, a deadbeat father and a heroin addict. Now I’m a single father, clean and sober over 2 years and becoming a better man everyday and it all started with stumbling across this man on UA-cam. Thank you kindly sir, you are in my prayers Jordan

@Psychonaut I'm 43, so there is that... but I'm sure you have much more! I can tell by the way you desire to embitter and destroy everything around you... but it won't work on me. I actually pity you, and I do have enough life experience to know you are extremely unhappy. Great username by the way! ✌

    • @michaellanoue9036
      @michaellanoue9036 4 роки тому +3

@Psychonaut really don't care what it means. And to be truthful, I am defensive when I see people trying to make this world a lesser place by their daily actions. I wish you all the best though, I truly do... and hopefully one day you'll see the light. Try taking on some true noble PERSONAL responsibility and you will be much more fulfilled in life! The great thing about this man is HE IS FLAWED, and doesn't dispute it. He is a true prophet and what he learns from going through this crisis he brought on himself will make him so much more wise to explain the meaning of life to us. I can see you don't like the message because it puts all the responsibility for life on you and me, but until you embrace that truth, you will never be truly fulfilled. God bless!✌

This put me in tears. When you realize that you’re the one that is capable of ending your own suffering you become free! People are so hard on themselves, especially in comparison to others. I’ve realized over time that none of that matters, and JP is spot on when he says that all you have to be better than was the person you were yesterday. The moment you realize that is the moment you’re truly free ❤️

Im incredibly thankful for finding Jordan Peterson on UA-cam. I had been struggling with my life and depression for about 5 years now and pretty much lost everything I had. Ive been living in a homeless shelter for a year now. I found this video at the beginning of this year and I play it almost daily to remind myself that I have the power to turn my life around. I now have a job with USPS and just got my own apartment. Ive been teaching myself to code for the last 3 months to hopefully get a job as a programmer. I honestly dont know where i would be if not for the motivation Peterson instilled in me. Thank You Sir!!

There are certain things in life that are more worthy, more valuable than anything else, knowing how to help someone, supporting someone in times of need, how to be a friend, a warrior, a good human being, knowing what to do in certain situations, knowing how to do things that will make things better for yourself and others, and it all starts with you being completely honest. Truth is embedded in your heart, it is the reason why you do the things you do and the heart never lies in anything you do because you are always doing what you feel is good in your heart. Everything is connected in the world. From the way we live, the way we speak, the things we decide to do, our health, our strength, our perception, how we treat others, how much time we take to make real changes and how much time we make to better ourselves.

One of the toughest things is trying to follow this mindset but being dragged down by people around you who are intent on criticizing you for adopting this mindset. They attack your character, your seriousness, everything you’re doing...while they live mediocre lives and avoid responsibility. It’s hard to keep going when all these people around you are trying to discourage you.

I’ve seen this video more times than I can fathom. And where I’m at in my life right now, it connects with me. Lying, cheating, giving up on myself, losing my composure easily, being more selfish than selfless, etc… I could blame what I’ve gone through and say it made me this way. No… It’s all on me and I have to do better. This video has done more for me when I didn’t think I’d need it like the way I do right now.

I was in a dark dark place for several years and could not figure my way out. I had a lot working against me but was able to start turning it around.
JP definitely played a part in that. I’m maybe 10% out of the hole but I feel like a billion dollars compared to how I felt at my worst. I am absolutely dedicated to a steady path of self-improvement, both mentally and physically and it feels great to know that I’m doing everything I can do to perpetuate it.
I used to aim way too high and compare myself to others so the sentiment of this video bears much significance in my journey.
Good luck to anyone reading this who may be where I was a year ago.

The key to psychological strength lays in the way a person encounters the world. Many people think that objective numerical figures determine everything. However this is actually not the case.
Those who gain confidence only when they are fully embellished externally or when things work out smoothly, tend to be vulnerable more than anybody else. Because there are so many conditions that have to be met for bringing themselves out into the world, that are encountered with numerous obstacles in that process.
On the contrary, if you have the ability to open up yourself to the world with ease, that indicates that you have mental power.
Such individuals with inner confidence may not stand out at first glance, yet people tend to be drawn to those individuals and are persuaded by them. Even in moments of failure or uncertainty, they do not sway and are rather immersed with what they can do.
Most of those who conceal themselves with external factors- whether it be looks or wealth - tend to break down in these situations. Those who had approached these “flashy” people realize their true faces and start distancing themselves.

Most of those who conceal themselves with external factors- whether it be looks or wealth - tend to break down in these situations. Those who had approached these “flashy” people realize their true faces and start distancing themselves.

My life is in plain shambles right now.
Going through what could be called a "Quarter life crisis". Just turned 32, suddenly faced an existential crisis, left my now ex-fiancée (whom I care deeply about and hope she'll be OK) after 11 years together because I faced a massive wall all of a sudden. Some things were related to her and us, but most are personal things that surged and I couldn't deal with all of it.
    So I left.
And now I'm utterly lost. Left our apartment, left her, left the city I was living in with her for more than 5 years (in another country, her country), back at my parents', back in my old bedroom, back in my country, for now.
I'm an empty shell of a man. I have friends and family here, loving parents, but I've never felt so alone, the world has never appeared so big, my path has never been so blurry and uncertain, and I've never felt so lost and unsignificant.
"12 rules for life" helps me. Or at least it has the potential to do so.
    I'm battling too many things.
I know I'm in no position to claim the victimhood in the break-up, as I instigated it, but I'm utterly heartbroken, as she was and is a great person, a great partner. Not without flaws (who hasn't flaws?), some that had their slow burning effects on me, but still a great person.
But I can't come back to her. Not after how I left her. I might need years before I forgive myself. For now I can't. I'm not the man she knew anymore, I'm not the man I thought I was, and I'm not the man I wish I could be. I don't recognize myself. I tried to be what I thought she wanted me to be, and I forgot myself in the process, for years.
I don't know where to go, what to do. I don't know how to start over.
I want to leave, explore, find myself. But I need my driving licence first, I need money as well. I'm "just" an illustrator, I don't have a high-paying skill. I feel stuck, lost and alone.
But this book, it soothes, it's a caress to the soul. It's not sugarcoating things, it's honest, and necessary.
I need to finish it, then read it again, and again. I need to embrace these rules, and find myself through them. I hope I will.
Life is suffering, I need to find my meaning into all of it.
Sorry for the rant and the awkward honesty, but thank you Dr.Peterson.

the minute you start looking at yourself honestly and make an honest, faithful attempt to rectify your wretchedness -- whether that be procrastination, speaking while angry, or whatever it is -- you IMMEDIATELY begin to feel better. The difficult part is in sticking with it. Remember those flashes of hope where you were able to do something about your dark, anxious, addicted, stupid sinfulness and formed it into light. Those moments will keep you going to the next moments. String enough of those together and in a few years you'll look back and realize that you really, truly don't want to kill yourself. That's what's happened to me. I still have a lot of work to do, so it's still happening to me, but I truly feel like I will not kill myself. Not if I have anything to say about it, which I now believe that I do.

Indeed. I am 66 years old. In many ways, beaten down. The dreams I had wanted so much to achieve in our school where I am a teacher have been destroyed, literally, by others in the workplace. This isn't hyperbolic; it's merely description. What Dr. Peterson is teaching me here is that the harshness and malevolence of life is the norm; how can I lift myself up and transcend these circumstances? My circumstances aren't even unusual. I struggle with the bitterness and the rancor, though. The lesson is that gentle forbearance, on a foundation of focused strength, based in family and faith, is sufficient. I wish I could thank this man in person for his unceasing devotion to healing the pain of humanity.
