Flight tip: If you are given the option of a "western" and traditional meal on an airline, always choose the western one when leaving the airport, and the traditional one when coming back. The food is prepared at the country you leave from, so you'd want to choose the meal that makes sense from where it was prepared!
My happiest memory of my honeymoon was Ethiopian food. My husband and I found a tiny restaurant close to our hotel and it was our first time trying traditional Ethiopian food. We love cultural food and was so taken by the food and staff that we ate there 3 times in one week. We never found another truly authentic restaurant again once we returned home. We returned 5 years later happy to find that they still existed and enjoyed the food that gave us so much joy!
I used to be a wedding photographer in San Diego...out of the 400+ events I covered I would have to say that my first Ethiopian couples wedding was one of the more memorable ones... Both the bride and the groom were over 2 hours late for the vows :) :) But after the formalities the entire wedding party and guests went over to Mission Bay Park where the families had set up a few small tribal style tents facing out into the bay... 3 of the tents were dedicated to food and the 4th was reserved for the bride to greet family and friends for short personalized visits... They had also arranged some musicians...they played traditional drums and some odd looking wind and string instruments. The weather was perfect (San Diego), the guests wore super colorful clothing, the music had everyone dancing until the police came by and told us the park was closing, but for me...the food was the highlite of the day...I don't even know what I ate mostly but...the flavors were all fantastic IMO. Those photographs were some of my favorites during my 24 year "career" ...:) :)

Ethiopia is by far my favorite place to visit. The food, the people, the country, all beautiful. I was spoiled by the food, and even the best Ethiopian restaurants here (I've been to many...East Coast mainly) don't compare...some have come close. However, we have long time Ethiopian friends/family here in the states, and in their home is THE ONLY place that gives the same taste and quality. It is like in Ethiopia, it is all "homecooking" no matter where you go. I miss it so.

Ethiopian Airlines! I have memories of going on an Ethiopian Airlines 707 in 1979 (or 1980?) when I was 7 years old. I was travelling with my mum and brother from London Heathrow to Rome via Paris. Due to a bomb scare the flight was delayed for 24 hours. Strange, though being so young and loving planes at such a young age, I loved the flight and the delay. For years I remembered the beautiful colours and the planes interior including the seating. Around the middle of the plane, 6 seats on both sides were facing each other with a table in between (some passengers therefore flying backwards). Amazing memories..
I was one of the first passangers on Ethiopian Airlines when it first launched and it was such an amazing experience. I had previously taken 2 other middle eastern airlines that were below average in comparison :( not everyone was treated so well. The Ethiopian Airlines hostesses were so kind and welcoming and smiled warmly constantly. It was amazing 👏 💕💕💕

It turns out it’s the most hypo-allergenic food ever. The only down-side is that the companies who sell both injera and the Teff flour tend to stuff is with other things. So sometimes your injera might come with some percentage of wheat flour, which is justified as “westerners might like it more that way” - but in fact, unless the injera is badly fermented - it’s the best doe ever and no additives needed. And the four - they add sand to it, either that, or they don’t wash the grain before milling it..so as much as I used to love Teff flour, I stopped eating it because I was tired of crunching sand… And the meat dishes (all the watts 😍), and the simplest thing, like Gomen (which is a specific green they eat, but you can make it with almost any collard green. "It has a syrupy strawberry topping". Pretty sure that's the guava syrup then, because guava is fruit. 😂 Very popular in desserts and drinks in Mexico and Central + parts of South America and the Caribbean I believe.
I thought this was pretty funny too. Guava and cheese is a delicious combination that is served in a pasty from my favorite bakery chain in Los Angeles, Portos, which I believe is from Cuba.

Looking forward to your Zimbabwe videos. Have never been, but it's on my list. Ethiopia, and its food, is amazing. Hope you have a chance to actually spend time there sometime in the future. Oh, and they didn't forget your bags. With barely any time between your connecting flights, there was no way they were going to be able to get your bags from one plane to the next before it took off. Hope they showed up promptly on the next flight.
Always travel Ethiopian Air. Must admit even economy class the food and service is amazing. Their food tends to be amazing for most diets. Pity the first meal you had wasn't as amazing as what you get between African countries.
Ahhh, my dear sweet Sonny, "Bless Your Heart"! The Guava cheesecake wasn't from Guava, the "strawberry" topping was probably actually guava fruit, LOL!
I used to travel for work and have my expenses paid. I mostly travelled by train, and 1-st class vs cheapest ticket was usually a hot towel, a coffee and a snack. For that, you paid twice the price. Well, I told my company to not book that but just buy the cheapest ticket for less than half the price (I think it was 1/5th the price), but allow me an extra stipend so I could pay $6 for coffee and a snack before I boarded. We are talking about several hundred dollars savings per week. Well, company said no. So I required 1-st class tickets after that. tl/dr: If you are an individual, don't bother with 1-st class. But if your company wants you to travel, tell them you are very weary of travel, and need "business level accomodations", otherwise you simply can't.
That' sponge brain bread is some of the coolest stuff you'll ever eat. About 10 years ago, I all but fell into an Ethiopian restaurant and found that stuff. The meals I had from their takeout were some of the most unique and delicious I ever had.
It's impossible to say which scheduled non budget airline is the best. In my experience most of them are very good but Ethiopian is certainly in the top 5.
Can we get more airplane meals? The food they serve at different airlines and destinations are really interesting! The ones to Japan served instant ramen and haagen daz ice cream as a midnight snack.
Glad you had a good experience. I fly with Ethiopian once a year, the food is pretty good. The flight attendants always seem like they are being held against their own will and hate their jobs. They reflect it onto the customers. Hope that changes.
@Macmel they need to learn proper work ethics and adopt a “pride for your job” attitude. I’ve seen janitors who clean toilets all day more enthusiastic about going to work and having the opportunity due to high moral. Work ethics is a very important tool they should pick up on and boost employee moral if possible. Until then I’ll stick to Emirates. Please refrain from confusing “culture” with poor attitude. You are doing them a injustice by saying that because now you make it seem that all Habesha are like this when they aren’t! I’m focusing this as a “Ethiopian Airlines” issue and you seem to be dwelling on culture. Anyways have a nice one.
Hope everyone sees the attitude I’m talking about I can tell this ignorant person who is either a worker or flies economy and can’t afford to fly or at class and understand what I’m pointing out. This is an exact example of what I mean attitude issues, didn’t think we would get a live performance from this person. 😂 fix up Ethiopian!
I have flown Ethiopian airlines and I love the hospitality and the food. Injira, lentils dishes with spices hits so close to Indian dishes mainly Dosa and daal/pulses. Also, love their beef stew.

Sadly, due to the impact of colonization and enslavement, touristy parts of Africa are crome-ridden like Joburg and many other major cities in African countries with a history of not more than six decades as an independent nation. Ethiopia is a safe haven with fewer tourist attractions to explore.

Im originally from Rwanda but went to high school in Zimbabwe. Love that country its like home to me. Now reside in Australia. Can't wait to watch your food experience there.
How's Australia? It must have taken some getting used to after Rwanda and Zimbabwe.Lived in Melbourne and Adelaide a couple years, loved it.
Khing david, Zimbabwean here 👋🏾good to hear a positive message about Zim
Awe I'm sorry u are in Australia right now.. would rather be in Africa lol
We really need the Ethiopia episode, such an underrated cuisine.
You are way better at this than all the other Aviation Geek reviewing Business/First Class. DO MORE OF THESE!
i'm happy you enjoyed our Ethiopian cuisine, it's one of our best cultural food and hope you will try some of our amazingly delicious foods in different parts of our country ,,
It would be great to have you come over to our country, Ethiopia, soon. It's stable now and all the beautiful cultures along with some of the most delicious food you'll ever eat await you!
Tell him to visit Tigray as well and maybe Afar, heard it was the safest place in all of ethiopia, the experience will be triumphant

We don't want him to visit Ethiopia this jackass because I heard them insulting Ethiopian airline pilot on his Egyptian video.. he called the Ethiopian pilot junk pilot...😡
Ethiopia airline is The pride of Africa by far the best in keep The customers happy beautiful Cabin crew, delusion food ,affordable prices, hospitality, smooth flying, this experience you africa One flight Et best in Africa travel by Ethiopia airline you experience one of the best thing about travelling
Delicious food not delusional 😅🤭
I just found your channel and i really like how positive you are, even when things dont go as planned you take it as it comes and dont focus on the negative, I also like how you explain and describe everything so it feels like we are there with you
I’ve been binge watching your channel all week. Thank you for the amazing content BUT ALSO for proving that no matter where in the world you are, people have more in COMMON than they don’t. Despite what the media so often portrays, this show proves that if one can respect differences and see them as an opportunity for growth/adventure, we’d ALL be better as a planet! 🌎
Welcome Sonny to my homeland Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 , lt has always been my dream having you here. Thank you , looking forward to seeing your amazing videos. Much appreciation 💛 here in Zimbabwe
When the world needed him most .., Sonny never disappoints 👏
My beloved home country Ethiopia 🇪🇹
I love this guy. Out of all the crazy stuff he shoves down his chops, champaign gives him heartburn. 😂
Ethiopian airline the new spirit of Africa. Keep shining. Best airline!!
All good until something is lost in translation and guava becomes guano.
Yup. Guava is amazing. Had a lot of guava jam growing up in Jamaica
Also very popular in the Indian subcontinent
I just wanna say, I flew ECONOMY on ethiopian airlines and still got great service and food(twas prepackaged but not bad for airplane food AT ALL). Tis a great airline
amid this pandemic I feel like experiencing worldwide travel thanks to your channels ❤️
I love these videos not just for the food that I havent ever experienced but the way he is able to make friends wherever he goes....like how insane is that that everywhere he goes he just has a way with people that makes them feel comfortable despite recording stuff hes doing to share with millions of people
The airline food on the flight from the US looked disappointing, but from Ethiopia to Zimbabwe 😋 looks good.
AWESOME video seeing what types of food served on that type of airline. love it
I used to travel for work and have my expenses paid.
I definitely love how honest you were about this whole exspirence so genuine Bro !
Watching this while eating my dinner here in Perth Australia 🇦🇺 🦘
This is really interesting, different, ... and pricey! 🤑
Great video mate 🤘💜🤘
Babe try injera at Mirabooka
I love Ethiopian food! It’s so good!
That' sponge brain bread is some of the coolest stuff you'll ever eat.
About 10 years ago, I all but fell into an Ethiopian restaurant and found that stuff.
The meals I had from their takeout were some of the most unique and delicious I ever had.
Need sooo many more of these airline food reviews. As a ‘real food’ reviewer, taking the piss out a airline food is hilarious.
Which airline food is great?
Imagine being stuck behind him with no earphones. Man that would drive me crazy
🤣😜
Nothing a shoelace can't resolve.
@@perdbeer6713 💀
He was incredibly annoying in this one
He only spoke for like 8 minutes on a 14 hour flight.
How would that drive you crazy
It's impossible to say which scheduled non budget airline is the best. In my experience most of them are very good but Ethiopian is certainly in the top 5.
Looking forward to the Zimbabwe series, it's got to be amazing!
Can we get more airplane meals? The food they serve at different airlines and destinations are really interesting! The ones to Japan served instant ramen and haagen daz ice cream as a midnight snack.
Sonny: *is a "food expert"*
Also Sonny: is guava a type of cheese?
Sonny come down to South Africa and Eswatini, would love you show you around and show you all the things we have to offer!
That pretzel turkey sandwich with some of the tomatoes and some of the vinaigrette lettuce would have been amazing
Glad you had a good experience. I fly with Ethiopian once a year, the food is pretty good. The flight attendants always seem like they are being held against their own will and hate their jobs. They reflect it onto the customers. Hope that changes.
@Macmel No, I’m familiar with the difference between Habesha culture and just hating your job and the people around you. They need to fix this.
Etiopian food looks good would like to try !!
I have flown Ethiopian airlines and I love the hospitality and the food. Injira, lentils dishes with spices hits so close to Indian dishes mainly Dosa and daal/pulses. Also, love their beef stew.
The food looked amazing. The seating was really cool. Thats a long time on a plane and pretty costly. Glad you made it safe and look forward to the next videos. Was fun to watch. Great video
Try Madora (worms) from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼, you will find them in markets definitely
Mopane worms
I'm south African I love that you are choosing the less touristy parts of Africa to explore😊
Agree😀. I feel like the less touristy areas you visit the more authentic the experience is.
Sadly, due to the impact of colonization and enslavement, touristy parts of Africa are crome-ridden like Joburg and many other major cities in African countries with a history of not more than six decades as an independent nation. Ethiopia is a safe haven with fewer tourist attractions to explore.
I'm so proud to see you flying Ethiopian Airlines (African Airlines)
I love Ethiopian food! I only had it once, but I felt super light and comfortable after it, and now I'm craving it again! 😅🤤😁

Got so confused when the caption read “Harare, Ethiopia” at the end I was like this boy flew Ethiopia to Ethiopia? 😂😂
Thought the same, a little editor mistake :)
Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. Harare, Zimbabwe. Yeah it was a surprise to see Harare, Ethiopia.

That Ethiopian food looked so good 💯💜...can't wait for the Zimbabwe videos too 👍👍
I watched this video to watch you eat Ethiopian food, which is one of my favorites!
Wow, I haven't been on a plane in 17 years, a lot has changed! For $6k, I could do a lot. I could take two trips. That's insane.
Generally flights are cheaper. I got round trip to LA from Denver for $200.
I have never had Ethiopian food so thanks for this video! Alwasy enjoy watching them, keep up the great work Sonny and team! #Iamonabus Cant wait to see the next adventure!!
I don't know where you are at but Los Angeles has a Little Ethiopia with a number of restaurants. There are a few Ethiopian restaurants elsewhere in the city.
Sunny on one of our flights 😀! We are so happy to had you and hope soon you will experience what Ethiopia can offer in your culinary adventures. Love your videos. I would be happy to show you around.

Man, I miss Ethiopian food. Such a cool, unique cuisine with their Injera.
Wow, that's the most underwhelming 6K snack in all of aviation history. Congrats Ethiopian Airlines.
This man has my dream job me he really worked hard to get there. Safe travels man huge fan.
Wow! That will be my dream vacation trip to. Ethiopia. Love the food, good people and reach traditions as well. Thank you for sharing ❤️
I love how you travel to various countries and show us amazing dishes. My inspiration ❤️
I flew on Ethiopian airlines, the experience was pretty good, the ethiopian flight attendant spoke to me in indian and i was like "oh, im actually american u can just speak english" i was suprised she knew indian, she said they watch a lot of bollywood movies in ethiopia 🤣 they also have direct flights to mecca from many countries which appeals to muslims
This is nuts!!! So cool. I love you man! So cool to watch you enjoying your job. Some of it is hard but that is also fun to watch.
I just love these 💛
Well done Sonny. Nice video, as always. It just needs a slight change of the caption at 13:06. It should be Harare, Zimbabwe, rather than "Harare, Ethiopia". 😊
His editors are retarrrdes
Thank you ! Noticed too
I always wonder why you never did a piece on Ethiopia. The food is so good. We hope to see it someday. Love your show.

Ethiopian Airlines is the best in Africa; and competitive in the world! Thank you for using Ethiopian Sonny.
It's amazing, that airplane food looks delicious. It's good that you enjoy it. You take fantastic shots of the sky and your expression of happiness in sharing it is genuine.
Hey Sunny, when you land in Zimbabwe Harare, you've commented on screen Harare Ethiopia. Please update this error. 🙏 thanks
im very proud to be Ethiopian ❤❤❤❤
I also tried Ethiopian cuisine, and I was surprised that their pancakes (Kitfo) are very similar in taste and texture to Russian pancakes
Kitfo is not a pancake. It is seasoned raw meat.
@@ahadu_entertainment you misunderstood me, I meant the flatbread that is served with meat in this dish.
Not kitfo it is injera
@@ElenaBeridze The flat bread is called Injera made from fermented Teff.
For those who haven't tried the spongey looking bread.
It almost tastes like a lemoney pancake but spongey and not sweet, they are really good and super addictive tho (super filling as well

I'm from Canada. Even in winter when our prices are the highest. I could make ALL of the first flights meals for under $100 combined.
So sad
I would pay up to $300 just to try the second flights meal
"is guava a type of cheese?" Is the funniest question I've ever heard😂
Delicious yoga mat....straight out of the gate🤣. You flew to Harare, Zimbabwe...I am from Zim.🇿🇼
12:34 I can't believe guy held the chicken leg with injera 😂😂😂😂😂 W content tho!
Ethiopians are one of the most special type of race humans were gifted. Extremely generous and welcoming and they make sure you are full.
went to ethiopia a couple years ago, was very nervous on the flight but they had these fruit juices that were so mf good. Surprised that he wasn't offered any, think they are bottled in Ethiopia. Also Ethiopian sparkling water Ambo is delicous.
Great video. Would love to try Ethiopian if I go back to India. BTW, hate to be "that guy" but at the end the caption reads "harare, ethiopia" instead of zimbabwe.
Sonny, have you never tried sun dried tomatoes 😂😂.
It's just i like everything about that guy: the way he talks the way he eats .it comes me down when I'm stressful.
in England we call that rice with vegetables inside 'savoury rice'. we usually have it as part of a little buffet with cold cuts and sausage rolls, crisps, salad etc
I love how this dude handles turbulence 😅 made me laugh out loud lol
