The last 5 years is probably my favorite score of his, and I just saw the revival of parade earlier this week. I’m fascinated by how he can do song transitions soo smoothly, and just use all these different types of instruments and techniques to portray characters in his work. Parade was soo incredible, and I really hope to see more of his work live and in person ❤

That was my favorite part of the workshop. Some people think jrb is very deuchy but I understand the need to want to work with people who are good. There is nothing more frustrating than being in a show with people who stink when you know you can bring so much to the table.

I didn't even know who JRB was a month ago. (My bad.) A few short weeks after my 14-year-old was asked to play piano in an upcoming production of 13, I've learned that the man is a musical genius. Why did '13' only stay on Broadway for 3 months? I don't know, except that the public blew it. '13' is an amazing achievement, and the music is as good as it gets.

Well 13 was a really bad show TBH, but the music was amazing. Sadly almost all of JRB's shows do not last on Broadway very long and are very underrated.

Everything I've heard about it on Broadway suggests that it was a GOOD show, but that musicals that are about non-gay adolescents just don't attract presumably-sophisticated theatre-goers. If they don't see it, they don't know how good it is. One reviewer wrote, "Why would I want to see a show about the most miserable time of my life?" I've watched several school productions and love the show. The music is genius. EVERY song is a winner. And I'll never understand the terrible decision to drop what might have been its best song, Being a Geek.

some great ideas here. i often disagree with writer of Miss Saigon for removing Kim's 2nd Song "Too Much for on Heart" and the reason being the plot doesn't move forward! BUT Kim does emotionally move forward!

There appears to be no sound on this at all. Other videos have sound here--anyone know what's wrong?

+AvalonMorley Your left speaker might be broken, the sound's only in the left speaker! Also, funny to see a comment from you here! If you never watched it, I highly suggest the student's song at 33:21. It's a really good song, and chances are this is going to be the only recording we ever get of it!

That was it ~ thanks! it's an interesting song, and good comments from JRB. Funny to find you here too. But then, people with tastes for music like this do tend to congregate where it's to be found. I got to hear Mr. Brown a few weeks ago, being interviewed about his life and work, and singing and playing a few songs (specifically, he sang "I Love Betsy," from HONEYMOON IN VEGAS; "I Could Be In Love," from his cd (and cut from and replaced in THE LAST 5 YEARS, which you probably know); and "Back in Business," also from the cd. Gonna come back and listen to this whole video when I'm more awake.
