What it was like to ride the Forbidden Druid high pivot trail bike over the last 7 months

  • We are finally back after a long time and wanted to talk about the new brand we picked up back in March. We started carrying the Forbidden Druid which was the first high pivot trail bike introduced to the market a couple years ago. The high pivot allows a linear travel in the rear axle path which makes for a super stable and smooth ride. #bikingroots, #forbiddendruid, #highpivotmtb

    Anyone ridden a Forbidden Druid or another high pivot bike? Let me know your thoughts!

      I have tried the Druid and also cannodale shore with a medium high pivot. Druid is more refined and more of a trail bike but slightly concerned about mud catching on rear pivot. Shore is a heavy park bike for big jumps and gnar

      @@octodadmtbmartyrichards2862 oh nice, yeah those look cool. Yeah so far no issues for me with mud (only had one muddy ride with it). Forbidden did modify the upper gap in the pivot behind the mud guard with a foam guard to protect debris from getting in there and causing damage.

      Never tried a true high pivot but I own a Ferrum bikes 160mm single pivot steel bike that has the pivot slightly high and in front of the BB. It rides great. It is super smooth and keeps momentum well and jumps well. Would love to try a Druid!

      @@lightningshredder5605 Thanks for the comment and sharing about your Ferrum! I've never heard of them and had to look them up. Very interesting! Nice to have a unique bike that rides well! Yep, no longer have my druid for a variety of reasons, but we'll just say I didn't want to sell it when I did, and do miss how smooth it was over chunky stuff. Yeah, hopefully you can get a chance to ride one soon! Take care

    I’m trying to decide between the Jekyll, the Druid and the dreadnought it’s hard with nowhere to demo any of them having never ridden a high pivot

      That is a tough decision! I haven’t ridden the Jekyll or the dreadnought but they look sweet! Where do you live and where do you primarily ride? Will this be your only bike?

    Hi there. I'm looking at one of these they only have a medium i'm 175 CM tall. You said your a medium bike guy how tall are you if you dont mind. Did it fit you well?

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Рік тому +1

      Hello! So yeah I'm around 172 CM. I think a medium would fit you well. The medium does come with a bit longer stem than the one I built up so I was riding a large and it felt pretty fun. I think you could go either way honestly but if you want a more sportier bike that fits like a glove and will allow you to have a taller dropper (I could only do a 125mm with my short legs), go with a medium. Awesome bike! I miss mine

    @bikingroots You seemed to dig the Druid. Why did you decide to put it up for sale?

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Рік тому

      Sadly I have/had 5 druids in our inventory and decided that was too many to have of such an expensive bike. Unfortunately we have not been immune to the bike downturn and sales have not been what they used to be. Combining all that, it is for sale. Not sure if it will sell and if not I’ll start riding it. Love riding it though, it is a sweet bike

    Do they send frames or bikes to Mexico? Or do I have to place an order to an American mailbox and pick it up there?

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the question. I do not know if they would or not, you could reach out to them and see. If they don’t, you may have to ship it to us here in Texas and then arrange for someone to come pick it up here. We’ve had a few customers from Mexico do that with some of our other brands. Good luck!

    Looks like a sweet bike. How much does it weigh?

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Рік тому

      Forgot to mention the weight. SLX build (so the grey demos) weigh around 33lbs since they have beefy tires and a bit heavier fork. My purple custom build i got to around 31 lbs. so neither is a lightweight bike but on the trail feels so smooth.

    As much as I love the Pike, its Chrome/Silver color is so hard to match with anything out on the market

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Рік тому +1

      Yeah fork color can be a challenge to match. They also make the pike in a black which matches more bikes depending what you are going for.

    How does it compare to the alpine trail as a trail bike?

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Рік тому

      For me it was a lot smoother going through the roots and smaller stuff at the same time could handle big stuff easily. The alpine for me was a bit stiff over things unless pushed very hard (i did have a coil on mine though). Both fun bikes. I will say the alpine had shorter chain stays so felt easier to manual.

  • @pyakpepyak
    @pyakpepyak Рік тому

    Any idea how lower slider on the chain guide performs over time in this configuration?

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Рік тому

      Good question. I honestly don’t know. I haven’t really inspected mine to see how it is holding up. I don’t think they are that expensive though if they do wear out.

    • @pyakpepyak
      @pyakpepyak Рік тому

      @@BikingRoots I was mostly curious at which point it can start adding extra friction. The chain will be rubbing plastic quite a lot, since it has to push it towards the chainring.
      Wondering if having a proper jockey wheel there as on top would work better here.

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Рік тому +1

      @@pyakpepyak you can adjust the angle and at a steeper angle it does cause more resistance, so you just need to set what flows best. As far as a jockey instead, I guess I get it but also I’m not an engineer. I can say that their design works great, and so far for me, no issues with wear
